Something I thought of while watching the rise movie again is that Donnie probably made the escape pods very recently after the end of the show.

Mikey: “How did we get here?”

Donnie: “Donnie Pods. We’ve never had to use those before….”

Mikey apparently didn’t know about the existence of the pods and was rightfully confused. Then Donnie says that this is their first-time use, meaning that they hadn’t been in a situation yet that required them since they were made, which I’m assuming was not terribly long ago

More evidence of this would be when the escape pods actually enter the lair.

I always found it funny that the first pod actually wrecks some monitors upon entry to what I assume is Donnie’s lab, so it looks like they were rather untested.

Also, Leo’s pod never came back when he wasn’t in it, so there was probably a malfunction there.

But the thing that stuck out to me was that Raph was the one to tell Donnie to use the escape pods, meaning he already had the pods in the back of his mind as a last resort. (Leo probably knew about them too but anyway-)

My brain immediately latched onto the idea that Donnie and Raph came up with the idea together for the sake of the team. Both of them have a very protective streak when it comes to their family so it’s not that hard to think that they’d want a fail safe, especially after shredder.

Maybe I’m just manifesting more of their dynamic but it’s fun to think about these two being overprotective together.
