Hearthstone's family forcing him to sleep in a completely dark room in Alfheim while Blitzen creates him a tanning bed so he can sleep in a bed of light...
wow if i had a nickel for every time i hyperfixated on a series with a character named blitz who's in a queer relationship with someone much taller than him i'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice, right?
OKAY GUYS SO. *slaps on clown makeup* I think I know why Blitzstone was never made canon.
*begins pacing* we all know that blitzstone is a side ship, unlike fierrochase, so we never really got an in-depth look into this ship because it’s from magnus’s pov. Rick dedicated HoT to JRR Tolkien, who apparently introduced him to norse mythology. Therefore we can assume that he’s read lotr. Hearth annd Blitz are an elf and a dwarf who’re very close to each other. Who in lotr are an elf and a dwarf who’re also very close to each other? Legolas and Gimli, obviously. SO we can assume from here that Rick modelled Hearth and Blitz on them. It’s up for debate over whether gigolas was a thing, though it seems to be implied- KEEPING IN MIND our theory that Rick based Blitz and Hearth’s relationship on them, it follows that blitzstone was never made canon because gigolas was never made canon.
I have a headcannon that Hearthstone, fresh out of the Alderman household, fostered a deep hatred for rugs. Not carpets, but rugs specifically. And I imagine that Blitzen witnessing this hatred out of context is hilarious- especially if he hadn't yet progressed with ASL much. Hilarious, but slightly painful, too.
Blitzen comes home from the grocery store or some place and something looks a little different. The apartment is spotless- the usual, ever since the curious little elf moved in, but it was also very... bare? And that's when he realizes all the rugs are gone, rolled up and stuffed away in some silly little corner. Even the ones under tables and chairs.
At first, he is rather irritated. After all, the creator had worked so hard on those rugs, put their entire heart into it, and that pesky elf won't appreciate them?
They might end up negotiating, or just confronting one another, but either way, Hearthstone will instantly read the irritation written like words in Blitzen's body language and he will back down, afraid to anger Blitz. Quietly, he will tack on a couple more coins of debt.
But he is also spiteful, petty Hearth, and soon Blitz notices that the elf simply does not step on the rugs. He will not interact with them, does not look at them, nothing outside of the occasional redecoration to shield it from his view. The cold shoulder he gives the rugs is simultaneously perplexing and silly to Blitz.
As time winds on, however, Blitz's ASL progresses, and Hearth grows more comfortable with his new housemate. The odd questions begin around this time.
Where did these rugs come from? signs Hearth. Where did you get them? What beast did they come from?
And Blitz finds it all hysterical. He is not even angry anymore, it's just ridiculous. But when he finds out later on, the two of them roll the rugs up again, putting them away and opting for socks instead, and Hearth is okay.
Magnus Chase illustration set! I only ended up coloring Magnus and Sam for my assignment, but I thought the other three should get to see the light of day too.
ID: A set of 5 black and white illustrations, each depicting a Magnus Chase character drawn from the waist up.
The first drawing is of Hearthstone Alderman. He is a slim, white elf man with a sharp jaw and spiky hair. He is wearing a t-shirt, leather jacket, and scarf. His right hand is closed in a fist, his left raised and open as he casts a spell. The “pethro” rune is behind him. He is staring determinedly at the viewer.
The second drawing is of Magnus Chase. He is a black teen boy with chin-length locs that fade from dark at the roots to light at the tips. He is wearing a hoodie and his fehu rune necklace. His arms are crossed in front of his chest, palms facing upwards. A light emanates from his heart. His eyes are closed and he is smiling peacefully.
The third drawing is of Blitzen Freyason. He is a stout black dwarven man with a defined jawline, thick brows, a short but styled beard, and hair in small locs tied back in a half-up-half-down fashion. He is wearing a suit with a waistcoat and bolo tie, a carnation in his lapel. He is smiling, fixing the cuff on his right hand.
The fourth drawing is of Alex Fierro. She is a thin Mexican-American teen with shaggy, curly hair that is dark at the roots. He is wearing an oversized argyle sweater vest, a button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up over his elbows, and fingerless fishnet gloves. She is in profile, facing to the left as her garrotte whips around her. He is smiling confidently.
The final drawing is of Samirah al-Abbas, a thin Arab-American teen girl. She is wearing a lantern-sleeve sweater with patches on the elbows, a skirt, and a hijab. Raven wings sprout from her back. She is smiling confidently, looking over her shoulder with determination as she swings a hand-axe. End ID.
**Once the Percy Jackson TV show premiers in 2024, the success of the series will flood the Riordanverse with a new wave of fans who will create content for his other book series. In short, there will be new Blitzstone content creators in 2024 or early 2025. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
