Cassidy is probably going to be one of the new leaders of Overwatch

I mentioned in a previous post that I think that Cassidy is going to be a leader of the new Overwatch along with Winston and Sojourn. I also said I would explain that theory in depth in another post.

So here we are, let's get into it.

First of all let's start with; why do I think Sojourn and Winston are going to be leaders?

Well with Winston it's very simple, he's already credited as the de facto leader. He initiated the Re-call, he brought everyone together, he's the leader. What I will get into later is why I think he'll stay a leader.

Now let's get into Sojourn. Other than the general hinting towards her being a leader of the New Overwatch, Sojourn was already a leader of Overwatch, granted it was for a short time, but she was still the next pick of Strike Commander after Jack and Ana (and possibly Gabe?). She also has a ton of experience with leading military teams and Overwatch teams. Her experience isn't the only reason why I think she should be one of the new leaders, the other reason is narratively, if she isn't a new leader of Overwatch, she doesn't have much to do other than banter with the other characters. I do love her voice lines but I do think that Sojourn is a character that needs to do stuff in the actual story otherwise it would just feel like she was just added in to fit the "new hero" quota.

Now let's get into why I think Cassidy will also be a new leader of Overwatch.

First, let's address the reason I mentioned in the previous post.

Winston, Sojourn and Cassidy were often framed together both in storyboards and mostly animated snippets we saw in the "BlizzConline 2021 | Behind the Scenes of Overwatch 2" video.

The fist time we see all three of them together is here;

Now it might just they're leaving an ORCA aircraft but if you actually watch the scene it seems like Sojourn is talking to Cassidy, considering no one else seems to be paying attention. Meanwhile Cassidy actively terns to look at her and Sojourn is also craning her neck to look at Cassidy.

The Second time we see Cassidy and Winston is here;

It's a team shot but why is Cassidy in front lines? In front of two shield tanks?

The next time we see them is here;

This looks like a storyboard of the first snippet.

Reinhart is also there but again take note that she seems to mostly be talking to Cassidy. This also seems to take place almost directly after Cassidy is introduced in Story Mode but before this group reunite with Winston;

The reason I'm focusing on Cassidy and Sojourn so much is because Winston is already the default leader of the Recalled Overwatch, he's essentially already been placed as Strick Commander.

Now I'm going to show you the image that started me off on this theory in the first place;

Sojourn, who has been implied to play a mentor type role talking to Winston, the confirmed leader, and Cassidy, alone, and looking concerned. This image is the thing that makes me believe that Cassidy is going to be one of the new leaders.

Ranking wise I think Cassidy would either be a Captain, like Ana, or a Commander of his own division, like Reyes. If the latter is the case I don't think he would be running the "new Blackwatch" I think he would be more in charge of handling the new recruits.

So, that's why I think Cassidy is going to be a new leader of Overwatch.

Overwatch 2 Map speculation/theory

So as of late we've gotten a TON of news on the future of maps in Overwatch 2, from Antarctic Peninsula as Season 3's big new content to the confirmation of a new game mode with multiple new maps at once coming later this year!

This begs an interesting question though: how?

We're already at 8 new maps with just the first 3 seasons, and with a confirmed no less than 3 new maps being "required" for a new mode according to the devs, that's even more coming this year all at once. Which, seems like a lot, so... how?

Well one obvious explanation is that the new maps are all a part of the internal backlog of content due to Overwatch 2's weird development, but there's another detail with the two newest maps that may also help explain this extreme rate of new maps:

Shambali Monastery and Antarctic Peninsula are not completely new locations to Overwatch. They're based, at least in part, on Nepal and Ecopoint: Antarctica, two maps that have been in the game for years at this point. As a result, while obviously standard technical elements like map design and balancing wouldn't change, there would be a lightened load due to the ability to reuse at least some assets from these older maps to make new ones easier.

There's also the curious case of the ""lost"" Overwatch 2 maps.

First up is Gothenburg:

The homeplace of Torbjorn and his company, Ironclad Industries, this was one of the first maps shown for Overwatch 2 back in 2019. However, it was meant to be an Assault map, which as we know has been removed from standard play as of OW2, meaning this map has been without a mode for a while now. I highly doubt the work done on this map will outright go to waste, but it's unclear as of now what role this map will have in the future (outside of a very very likely presence in PvE).

Worth noting that if Gothenburg was meant to be an Assault map, and is being reworked into another game mode, that bodes well for some of the old Assault maps to be reworked as well, and would also explain multiple new maps coming this year all at once for the new game mode.

The other "lost" OW2 map is simply known vaguely as "India":

Now, we do know a few interesting details about the map: 1. It was mentioned specifically as "one of the largest maps in the game". This is important, as recent info about the upcoming new mystery game mode also claims that the maps in that mode would also be the largest in the game, making it very likely that India will be one of the maps for that mode.

2. While inconclusive, it's very likely this is the same location used for the small map shown for the Restoration Challenge login screen from back in November 2020, meant to go alongside the Stone by Stone short story.

This is a fully unique backdrop with a small but full model in-game, which between its visual cohesion to the India map, the contents of the story (that you can read yourself), and other details on the map, lead me to believe that this small login screen background and the India map are the setting of the short story: Suravasa. And as such, the map's final name will also likely be the more specific Suravasa, as most Overwatch 2 maps started out with a broad regional name (Toronto, New York, Rio) but ended with a more specific location name (New Queens Street, Midtown, Paraiso)

3. This map also appears to have a PvE presence, where according to the Blizzconline 2021 showcase, we can see Widowmaker swinging throughout the map, and then seemingly setting fire to it. These are undoubtedly the same location, and while I'll save the other story implications for some other megapost, it's definitely worth keeping in mind it has some major implications for (what we can assume to be) fairly early events in the story campaign (featuring Zenyatta!!)

So uh.

I don't know where I was going with this, I just wanted to dump all the information I've been pooling up about the weirdness of OW2's upcoming maps, even though I doubt even most of the Overwatch fans on this site care too much. I just don't have friends who are that into Overwatch so enjoy my ramblings that may be salvageable into further speculation fodder!

A bit deeper like the next class for Diablo 4

Although players won't get to download Diablo 4 Gold until sometime in 2023. the anticipation for the long-awaited sequel is already in full swing. It was first revealed at BlizzCon 2019. Diablo 4 is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2012's Diablo 3 and will continue the story of Sanctuary and the Eternal Conflict. Diablo 4 has already been delayed to 2023 in the wake of an increase in staff turnover within Blizzard Entertainment, and fans are more eager than ever to learn about the mysterious title.

Despite the announcement to the world that the game will be returning Lilith in the role of (presumably) principal antagonist who will cause chaos throughout Sanctuary the game, very little is available about the Diablo 4 story. Blizzard has released a list aspects of the game's gameplay, but fans are still ignorant of many aspects of Diablo 4. Since there's been a lot of time between the announcement and when the game is expected to release, players will need more to keep their attention in the game heightened. The trailer of the cinematic reveal for Diablo 4 may have made some noise, but Blizzard should not just rely on this and the previous updates to attract players to the game. There has been constant updates to players throughout the years and it's the right time to look in a bit deeper like the next class for Diablo 4.

The three initial Diablo 4 classes were revealed way back in 2019. when the first announcement was made for Diablo 4 at BlizzCon 2019. focusing on its Barbarian, Sorceress, and Druid classes. Additionally, the Rogue class was revealed much later in BlizzConline, with a mysterious fifth class to be unveiled. Much like Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 the game is set to launch with five classes, and players are speculating whether more classes will be added in future expansions or updates like the earlier Diablo entries.

Classes allow players to choose different ways to fight and develop an individualized skillset with their own tools, abilities and equipment. With the brutal force of the Barbarian as well as the strategic casting of the Sorceress and the deadly moves and shapeshifting abilities of the Druid and the stealth or ranged abilities of the Rogue The players have a wide range of choices when it comes to their playstyle. The players might think that they are aware of what to expect with returning classes, but it's like Diablo 4 is making some modifications and has its own interpretation of how classes will perform.

During the extended look at the Rogue Class, Blizzard revealed that Diablo 4 will feature specific quests for classes changing the model of Diablo storytelling and using player choices to shape the story. In the past, Diablo games have always featured an element of narrative that emphasizes the dungeon crawler's adventure, and no doubt Diablo 4 will follow this trend. The addition of character-specific elements will definitely add another layer to the game's narrative. It's a new and exciting way to play the game, since it doesn't only add to Buy Diablo IV Gold the benefits of playing multiple times but additionally establishes Diablo 4 as a fresh direction for the series.

BlizzCon returns in 2023

BlizzCon 2023 will take place face-to-face at the Anaheim Convention Center, but this year the Blizzcon event will not happen again. BlizzCon 2023 will take place face to face, not as an online event. At least that's how the plans are. BlizzConline 2022 was canceled at the end of last year, and instead (for the announcement of a new add-on package for World of Warcraft) a short online Twitch broadcast was held in February.
