the thing about blood and treasure (2019-2022) is I cannnot in good conscience recommended it. It is EVERYTHING that's bad about the Hollywood treasure hunting adventure genre (orientalism, neo-colonialism, anti-Arab and Islamophobic terrorism pop-propaganda, pro-American intervention in SWANA plotlines, historical revisionism, it even has Israeli actors playing Arabs) and i do genuinely hate all those things about it, but it also has EVERYTHING that makes the treasure hunting adventure genre so fun to watch (ridiculous globe trotting, insane action set pieces, codes and cyphers at every turn, characters with the most insane backstories, leads with chemistry that has no right to be as good as it is, fun sequences veering into sci-fi and fantasy). like the two dudes who made that show LOVED that genre as much as I do and i could FEEL that love which is why I kept watching even when it made me 😬 because they were also white American dudes. what I'm trying to say is that being a Brown person who loves a genre that very specifically hates you is so strange. It's like loving the taste of arsenic........which is why when I get my shit together and write my anti-colonial treasure hunting adventure story, it's OVER for youse!!!
