FOTD #121 : tiny blue lights! (mycena lazulina)

tiny blue lights are little bioluminescent mushrooms in the family mycenaceae :-) there is not much known about them as they were only discovered in 2016, but so far they have been documented in southwestern japan !! they are also saprotrophic (feed on dead organic matter).

the big question : can i bite it?? the edibility is unknown thus far. ^^"

m. lazulina description :

"tiny blue lights are small & bioluminescent. the have the following traits : gills on hymenium, cap is convex, hymenium is adnate, stipe is bare. the cap is light blue to white, the gills are white & the stipe changes from white to dark blue down the length. visually, it appears as if dusted with sugar."

FOTD #134 : mycena indigotica!

mycena indigotica (no common name) is a newly-discovered saprotrophic fungus in the family mycenaceae :-) it is currently only known to occur in northern taiwan, where it was first found.

the big question : can i bite it?? so far, the edibility is unknown.

m. indigotica description :

"basidiomata gregarious, not luminescent. pileus 1.5-3.5 mm diam, at first semiglobose, then convex to flattened, non-striate, pale blue… to blue… when young, gradually with black tints with age, totally black when old or in dried specimens, slightly pruinose when young, glabrous with age, context white, margin entire, crenulate. hymenophore consisting of 70-120 pores, pores circular, usually oval near stipe, concolourous with surface of pileus, 8-12 pores per mm. stipe 2e4 x 0.5e1 mm, blue… to dark blue… gradually with black tints with age, pruinose when young, glabrous with age, cylindrical, central, basally bulbous."

at long last, after much work and determination, here are my redesigns for funguary 🍄✨

i wanted to rework these earlier designs in particular cause for the first four days I was so focused on making my fungus designs as subtle as possible so i wouldn't seem "basic" or "unoriginal", that i felt like those earlier designs ended up being a lil too subtle and ended up being unsatisfied with the final products. I wanted to make the fungus aspect of thes characters' designs more apparent, rlly make it visually clear that these are anthropomorphized fungi and not just random characters that just happen to share color schemes with certain fungi. At least thats what I wanted to achieve with my funguary designs. I think it just goes to show that a big part of embracing your art is not worrying so much abt originality and just having fun!

Also I didn't include day 3's turkey tail cause tbh i think its a rlly ugly mushroom, i personally find its colors unappealing >_< Plus the original design on its own is decent anyways so idc either way lol

anyways, the reason I put so much effort into these is that I've actually been wating to make all my fungus designs into actual oc's outside of funguary!! Idk if I'll on having a full on linear story for them, but you'll def see more content of them in the future so stay tuned ;)

Anand that concludes all my funguary content for 2024!!! Thank you all sm for following me on this challenge! It was hard at times and I def feel I could've managed my time and schedule a lot better, but I still had fun along the way, and I hope you guys do too ❤️🍄✨
