Litha is a time of celebration and rituals that have been observed since prehistory, as it marks the summer solstice. On the Wheel of the Year, it highlights the time when seeds have been sown and grow abundantly until Lughnasadh.

History

Litha (also known as Midsummer) occurs on the summer solstice, and celebrates the true beginning of summer. Celts celebrated Litha with hilltop bonfires and dancing. Many people attempted to jump over or through the bonfires for good luck. Other European traditions included setting large wheels on fire, and rolling them down a hill into a body of water.

The summer solstice is the longest day of the year, and in some traditions, Litha is believed to be when a battle between light and dark takes place. During this battle, the Oak King and the Holly King are in combat for control. Throughout each solstice they battle for power, and the balance shifts. The Oak King, who represents daylight, rules from the winter solstice (Yule) to Litha. During this time, the days steadily get longer. However, during Litha the Holly King wins this battle, and the days get increasingly darker until Yule.

Celebrations

In the Northern Hemisphere, Litha is observed during June 20–22; while in the Southern Hemisphere it is celebrated December 21–22.

Common Litha Symbols -

Colors: Green, yellow, purple, baby blue

Foods: Homemade bread, rhubarb, lemon and other citrus fruits

Herbs: Nettle, St. John’s wart, fennel, chamomile 

Flowers: Chamomile, sunflowers, 

For those who practice the Wiccan religion, Litha is the fifth Sabbat of the Wheel of the Year. As such, the holiday is marked with rituals to celebrate the longest day of sunlight in the year as well as the warmth it brings. 

Common traditions include baking your own breads, going swimming, worshipping sun deities, creating sun water.

It was piper's birthday. She took a picnic basket and some food and went alone in the woods, not too far too get lost but away from others. She had prepared a meal for two. No one was coming. She sat there looking at the sun and telling cheroki stories to absolutely no one. At some point she got up and pulled out a cupcake from her basket. She lighted a candle and waited. After a while a ghost appeared. "hey... Long time no see", Jason had come. He had never really abandoned her. She sat down and blew out the candle and sighted. "I told nico to help with this. Everyone misses you. I miss you... ", piper was crying. Not from sadness, she finally accepted what had happened. These were tears of joy. Seeing Jason helped. "happy birthday beauty queen", Jason's image faded to mist. Piper was alone again. But she always had Jason watching her over.

Veganské pečené bezlepkové donuty s modrou kokosovou polevou

Ano, vím. Ta poleva by chtěla možná o něco světleji modrou barvu. Ale co se týče chuti, ta je famózní. A v kombinaci s osvědčeným receptem na vláčné pečené donuty ještě vynikne. No co, až ji vyladím, recept sepíšu a zatím sem dávám tenhle, který op-rav-du stojí za vyzkoušení.

Ingredience:

Na 6 donutů

Donuty: (můj základní recept)

35 g hladké ovesné mouky

65 g hladké cizrnové mouky

1 lžíce tapiokového nebo kukuřičného škrobu nebo pudinkového prášku

15 g kokosového cukru

½ lžičky jedlé sody

¼ lžičky skořice

špetka soli

2 lžíce arašídového oleje (nebo jiného chuťově nevýrazného)

60 g arašídového másla

1 lžička vanilkového extraktu

165 g vody

Poleva:

půjčila jsem si recept na kokosové kondenzované mléko od https://jarmilasweet.cz/ a trochu ho poupravila podle svých modrých potřeb:)

200 ml kokosového mléka

65 ml javorového nebo rýžového sirupu

1 vrchovatá lžička modré spiruliny

1 lžíce kokosového oleje

kokosové plátky nebo barevné posypky (použila jsem jednorožčí:) na ozdobu

Tip: když nemáte modrou spirulinu, nic se neděje, i tak můžete recept vyzkoušet, akorát poleva nebude modrá. Pokud byste ale vážně chtěli modrou, tak spirulinu doporučuji ze sympatického českého obchodu https://www.happy-power.cz/ ;)

Postup:

Troubu dejte hřát na 180 °C. V míse smíchejte všechny suché přísady, přidejte olej, vodu, extrakt a arašídové máslo. Míchejte, dokud těsto nebude úplně hladké. Formičky na donuty, ideálně silikonové, si vymažte libovolným olejem (lépe se pak donuty vyndavají) a nalijte do nich těsně pod okraj těsto. Pečte ve vyhřáté troubě 20 minut, pak troubu vypněte a nechte donuty dojít. Nechte je chvíli vychladnout mimo troubu a vyklopte z formy. V čase, kdy donuty budou chladnout začněte vařit kokosové mléko se sirupem a olejem v malém hrnci na středním plameni. Neustále míchejte, dokud mléko nezhoustne. To může trvat okolo 30 minut, ale pozor, mělo by být stále spíš tekuté než pudinkovité, aby se dalo nalít na donuty. Až budete s konzistencí spokojeni, vmíchejte lžičku modré spiruliny. Donuty přemístěte na mřížku, pod ni dejte talíř a rovnoměrně polijte donuty polevou. Posypte kokosem nebo barevnými posypkami a nechte polevu chvíli ztuhnout. Pak můžete podávat. Donuty uchovávejte v lednici v uzavřené krabičce maximálně pár dní. Dobrou chuť!
