Me: oh, so you'd like to hear about my cat's bedtime routine? Great.

Normally before bed I'm in my living room, and when it's time for bed, I get up, turn off all the lights, and tell my cat it's time to go to sleep. He trots into the bedroom with me, and as I pull the sheets back, he either jumps onto the bed where I'm trying to lie down and chirps at me, or he waits on the floor and watches. I'm a side sleeper so once I'm in bed, I pick a side to start the night on. He'll climb over to lay down in front of me and to make biscuits on my neck. Once he's satisfied with the amount of biscuits he'll rest his little head on the pillow. After an unpredictable amount of time, he'll start to groom himself and also groom me. The grooming signals that it's close to the time for him to leave. And sure enough, he'll stand up and do the Halloween cat stretch. If we're having warming weather, he'll go under the bed. If we're having colder weather, he'll curl up behind or in between my legs. Then at some point, after I fall asleep, it's time for Cat Business. I can tell Cat Business has happened because the next morning toys have changed locations and some of his food has been eaten. When my alarm goes off, if I don't get up right away, he either licks my face and talks to me until I do officially wake up, or he settles himself between my legs again and goes to sleep.

Biomedical engineering?? That's so cool! What do you wanna do specifically, what interests you in that field?

Ahhhhh wow thank you for asking!! I'm mostly really interested in bone (which I've learned lately is a very normal sentence to say around other biomedical engineers, but Really Not in other classes). I've found I tend to prefer the more mechanical/biomechanical/material science side of biomedical engineering (mechanical properties, manufacturing biomaterials, orthopedic devices, etc) and it's just really interesting to me! In my senior year, I was able to specialize a little further and take classes, project, and research that helped me hone in on what really interested me, and it's been really fun!!

If it's worth anything, I'm always willing to talk about my engineering experience--I'm a few weeks away from graduation (!) and I do a lot of outreach w/ freshmen and HS students, especially other women and POC. If anyone has questions about anything relating to engineering, HMU! I love talking about it :)
