Twitter drama, fandom history: what happened with mha362 and the reddit situation - part 2

This is a sequel of this post. Please refer to that to disclaimers and general info.

In this post I will talk about the weird Reddit post!

Summary: mha362 came out, trending like nothing before, everyone is desperate, everyone is celebrating. Big twitter accounts write bait anti bkdk, bkdk sends request for one of these big accounts to die, there's mention of people rejoying about suicide, general transphobia, stolen fanarts etc. Basically, everyone is being quite angry from both sides... the sides being bkdk/Bakugou's fans and people who detest Bkdk and Bakugou with everything they have.

Again, this is not about the fans who simply hate him/bkdk, but about the strange vitriolic interactions that happened around the release of mha362 leaks.

Also, spoilers.

The reddit post "My boyfriend is being a monster on twitter over an anime character"

4 days ago (5 or 4th of August depending on timezone) someone (user "Concernedbytweets") posts this thread on the subreddit r/relationship_advice. The post has been removed but you can still look at the comments here.

The user was a new one, account just created, which is actually not too suspicious given that most people who post on these advice subreddits use throwaways, in case their friends/partner knows their usual account.

Is the post true or false? I will analyze the false first, and the chance that it is true, later. Then, I will talk about the comments.

FALSE?

The post ends up in the hands of a twitter user who immediately shares this screenshot on twitter, but the thing is... this happens just 2 hours after the post has been made (the screenshot comes from that), which is quite a strange coincidence as I remember the post only had a few comments and upvotes when I visited it.

The user in the reddit thread, instead of focusing on the homophobia and the homophobic things said, focuses on the "I could see myself shipping them"... just after reading the summary. I am a bkdk shipper, their relationship is long and complicated, it would be quite hard to just decide to ship them from a summary (and what summary? general bnha summary?).

Also the boyfriend sharing homophobic tweets, knowing his bisexual girlfriend is on twitter (even if she doesn't use it a lot) is strange, also because he has shown no homophobia outside that, and because they clearly have some friends in common.

TRUE?

Well, the details regarding the lease and house situation seems quite odd and specific, making the post sounds a bit more true.

Plus, the update. This update arrived after many commentors thought and asked about Vocal Pineapple and if he could have been her boyfriend:

The fact that the user added this edit does make it seems more real, regarding the fact that she is worried about people finding her boyfriend's twitter account, and the clear denial that the person in question was Vocal Pineapple.

So, I am not sure if this is true or not. Who knows!

But the comments are still interesting. We have a lot of commenters requesting and asking if this was Vocal Pineapple, and people sharing the post on twitter, wondering if it is him.

VP has to write a tweet to deny it, while others start talking about how bkdk fans are inventing fake reddit posts to insult antis.

EXTRA THINGS THAT HAPPENED

Korra and Asami are straight

In the reddit thread, someone commented that Bakugou and Deku are straight and shipping them is as bad as... being homophobic online. And that shipping gay ships is wrong, because actually they are straight. Even Korra and Asami are straight:

For who doesn't know Korra from "Legend of Korra" is bisexual, and so is Asami. They both show interest in guys, and then in each others. They are canon. The ending of the show set them up as lovers, and they have adventures (and kisses) in the sequel comics.

But apparently... showing interest in guys and existing in a world where showing explicit queerness is impossible in cartoons, means that they are canon. The idea is that apparently queer characters only need to stay in their place, in specific roles and genres, and out of the "normal genre" as all characters are created... straight.

This discussion ended up in trying to say that there are so many tomboy lesbians (bisexual erasure much?) movies around and cartoons and shows... but whops, they meant that there is a stereotype of tomboy women to be queer, and thus making them actually queer is BAD??

2. Sexism

An user tried to explain to Vocal Pineapple that heteronotmativity plays a part in the hate bkdk hate. The tweet was "If bakugou was a woman, you would all ship bkdk", given the tropes and the relationship (ex. Deku unlocking quirks because of Bakugou etc.)

Somehow, VP's answers was "you are sexist"

Completely missing the point, probably on purpose. And declaring how female characters can be a rival without the need to "fuck them" and romanticize them, when he does the same for Ochako:

notes: admittedly, i’m a little biased as she’s a good friend of mine but she’s just a good writer, and she’s willing to write for a variety of fandoms (bnha, heathers). though her account is new, she already has a small but impressive catalogue of oneshots; my favorites being “welcome home” and “luxurious”. she is good at switching tone, with using pretty and descriptive words for slower scenes to using more humorous and informal language to deliver moments of her brand of subtle and dry humor (which happens to be my favorite kind). though sometimes she will surprise the reader with sprinkles of observational and “modern” humor. as someone who mainly writes romance, being able to craft believable and romantic (or potentially romantic) scenes is quite the important skill; it’s one i believe she possesses. don’t just take my word for it, go read her stuff for yourself

notes: while i have just recently discovered their blog, i can tell that their fics—and their whole page seem to have this ‘oomf’. while admittedly i haven’t gotten the chance to read a lot of their stuff—mainly just because i was desperate to add another good author this list so it would look less pathetic. though one thing i can comment on right now is the addictive headcanons; this is the author you go to for your headcanon fix! it’s also worth mentioning that they appear to do the “fake tweet thing” which i absolutely adore, and think it can add an interesting and immersive layer to any story your telling. this author also writes for a variety of fandoms

when bakugou does better than you in your area of expertise, it’s hard to accept defeat. so what do you do? try to outdo him. OR in which you are a baker on youtube and bakugou makes you look bad at what you do so you prove that you are better than him— or well, at least you try to.

“Come here,” Bakugou motioned for you to stand beside him right in front of the sink. “What the fuck were you thinking?” He grumbled, turning on the tap, grabbing your arm and putting your hand under the cool stream of water. Why did it feel like you were getting scolded by your teacher in 4th grade when you scraped your knee at the playground?

“See, Bakugou, I don’t think I was thinking at all when I did that,” you hissed at the sudden contact of the water. “Oh wow, that was a self roast,” you realized, mumbling to yourself. He snorted, his hands still gently grasping your arm. It reminded you of the way he held your arm when he helped you at the party. The same look on his face with his brows drawn together but his touch was as gentle as ever.

“I’m fine, Bakugou. I already texted Shouto to get me some ointment,” you said. You were suddenly aware of how close you were to each other. He was holding your arm as he guided it under the running water, shoulders touching as he’s semi-hugging you from behind, his breath suddenly too warm as you felt him sigh behind you. You tried to ignore it as best as you can. It’s nothing, right? He was only helping you, really. Really.

“It might blister, stupid.”

“It’s fine, I’ve got bandages in my first aid kit,” you huffed. “And I am not stupid, stupid.”

“Says the one who took a tray out of the oven without oven mitts,” he snickered.

“Asshole.”

“I know, sweetheart,” he smirked. God he’s frustrating. You were about to open your mouth when you heard your front door open, Shouto appearing in your kitchen the next second. He must’ve used his own copy of your key like he always did.

You jumped away from Bakugou’s hold, clearing your throat. “Hey Sho,” you smiled, awkwardly trying to close the tap until Bakugou did it himself, trying not to snicker at your current state. You walked towards Shouto, giving him a half-hug while keeping your burned hand away.

“Hey love,” Shouto said, one brow raised with a knowing look. “Here’s the ointment you asked for. Do you need any help getting your hand cleaned up?” He said, eyes trained on Bakugou who decided to start cleaning up your kitchen counter. You thought he looked awkward as he tried to move silently around the kitchen. It bugged you. One, it’s weird - why is he acting like that all of a sudden? He knows Shouto, they’ve even talked a couple of times. Two, if you were to choose a single word to describe Bakugou, it would be ��loud’. The guy always made sure to let everyone know of his presence, whether it be through his crude comments or just the way he moved. Even if he was silent, something about him just yelled out “look at me!”, and it was bothering you that he was suddenly so… passive.

“No no, I’m fine,” you said, patting his chest as you pulled away from the hug. “Thanks Sho, I owe you one.” You set the ointment on your kitchen island before walking towards your friend.

“You sure?” Shouto asked again, following you with a worried look. “I don’t have to be at the studio for another hour. I can help, you know. Are you sure you don’t want to go to the hospital? It might be a serious burn,” he rambled. You were glad to have such a caring friend.

“Sho, I’m okay,” you laughed, waving your not-burned hand. “If I need help I can ask Bakugou. Right, Bakugou?” You turned towards him, a smile gracing your lips as you watched him move around your kitchen.

He looked so normal, so calm. At that moment, you realized that Bakugou really did belong in the kitchen. He looked most comfortable in it, like he didn’t care about anything else, stuck in his own bubble. You found it ... endearing.

“Yeah whatever,” Bakugou grumbled without looking at your direction. He was still gathering the bowls and measuring cups you guys used, neatly placing them in the sink.

Shouto raised his brow again, frowning as if to ask, do you really trust this guy to help you?

You only chuckled at his expression. “Seriously bub, I’m okay. I know your studio’s a 30-minute drive, so you better get going.”

“Okay, fine. Give me a call if you need anything, yeah?” He sighed, giving you another side hug and ruffling your hair.

“Of course. You drive safe, okay?” You huffed, trying to swat his hand away from your hair with your okay hand. You tried getting back at him, struggling to even reach the top of his head but he was already walking away, laughing.

“Love you,” you called out, feigning annoyance with a smile threatening to spread on your lips.

“Love you, too!” He yelled before you heard your front door slam shut. Humming to yourself, you decided to walk out of your kitchen to grab your first-aid kit from the bathroom.

“Love? Bub? What, is he your boyfriend or something?” Bakugou scoffed when he saw you enter the kitchen. You turned to him, raising an eyebrow. Why did he care?

“Don’t be ridiculous, dummy. We’ve been close friends forever,” you said with a hand on your hip.

“C’mere dumbass,” he grumbled, taking a seat on one of your kitchen stools and swivelling the chair to face you instead of the island. You walked towards him, stopping a little too close. So close, in fact, that you were almost in between his legs. He grabbed the small container of the ointment from across the surface while he motioned for you to lift up your burned hand.

“I’m fine, y’know,” you mumbled, trying not to stare at him as he applied the medicine with so much focus that his usual scowl was replaced with a serene face. He really did look better without that scowl on his face. It’s like he’s a whole different person. You truly, genuinely preferred this Bakugou.

He snorted. “You keep saying that word and now it feels like it’s not even a word anymore.”

“I’m serious, you grump. I’m fine-”

“Stop saying that damn word.”

“Bakugou. I’m. Fine.”

“Oh my god-”

“Fine, fine. I’ll stop using the word fine-”

“Y/N I swear to fucking-”

“Fine!” Your laughter shook your body. Unable to keep yourself stable, you tried keeping yourself from falling over by putting your other hand on his shoulder. Bakugou only hissed something under his breath, pulling you closer as he tried putting on the bandage around your hand. You ended up between his legs, your other arm thrown around his shoulder while you tried to fix your footing.

Oh.

You cleared your throat and looked away, feeling your face warm up at how close you were to him. “I’m okay, I can do it myself,” you said, trying to step away.

“Stop moving dumbass. I’m almost done anyway,” he snapped, unaware of your position as he finished up wrapping the bandage around your hand. “There. All done,” he said softly, gently lowering your arm but not quite letting go yet. You looked at him only to see that he was already looking at you.

“Thanks,” you said so low your voice was almost a whisper. Bakugou only looked at you with an expression you’ve only seen on him when he’s cooking. “I’m uh, I’m gonna go put these back, yeah? Then we can start cleaning up here.” You stepped away from his grasp, awkwardly trying to gather the first-aid kit in a hurry.

Was that a Moment? It was definitely a Moment.

Katsuki cleared his throat. “Yeah, no. You can go sit down and watch some crappy TV show. I can clean up here. I’m not gonna deal with more injuries tonight,” he scoffed as he stood up from the kitchen stool. “I’ll let you know if the cookies are cool enough to eat.”

“Um, okay yeah. Sounds good, buddy.” You wanted the ground to swallow you whole. Buddy?

“Weirdo,” he chuckled. With that, you scrambled away from the kitchen and promptly put the kit away before plopping down on your living room.

Why was that so… intimate? More importantly, why were you so affected by him?

“Ugh, it’s probably nothing. I’m just being weird,” you mumbled to yourself. Sighing, you pulled up your phone from your pocket and opened Twitter before texting Shouto.

You could hear the quiet clinking of silverware as Bakugou continued to clean after your mess. He looked so goo- “God, Y/N, get a grip!” Great, now you were talking to yourself.

Maybe you were dehydrated. Yeah, that must be it. You just needed some water. Walking back into the kitchen, you heard Katsuki pacing and whisper-yelling. You stopped by the doorway, watching, hesitant to walk in on him throwing a fit. He ran a hand through his hair and you realized that he was on the phone. It seemed like it was a Very Important phone call, so you decided to forget water.

Well. That was until you heard him say your name.

“- You know what? Yeah! I don’t like Y/N, I’m not interested in her, and we’re not friends.”

Oh.

Kaminari Denki was fucking dead. “When I told you to stop texting me it wasn’t a fucking invitation to call me, asshole.”

“Katsuki, come on. I’m trying to help-” Help this, help that. Bakugou didn’t know why he even asked him for help in the first place.

“Holy shit, I regret asking you for help if this is what fucking helping me means,” Bakugou hissed. “Just let me do my shit.”

It’s not like he didn’t want Kaminari’s help - he really just wants to make sure that this isn’t just some half-assed petty crush that wouldn’t work out in the long-run. Bakugou Katsuki didn’t do half-ass.

“Well I’m sorry Katsuki that I’m not confident in “your shit” because “your shit” is probably just you overthinking things and never even getting past the talking stage because your expectations are too high.” Kaminari wasn’t wrong, but Katsuki would rather die than tell him that he’s right.

“Suck a dick, shithead. I’m not fucking-”

“Oh. My. God. You are ridiculous, Katsuki! I just want you to actually put some effort into getting to know her! She’s my friend too, and if you decide that she’s gonna be your girlfriend, I want to make sure that you’re serious.” The fuck? Did Kaminari miss the part where Katsuki has been hanging out with Y/N for the better part of the week? Was this asshole actually serious?

“Dunce face I swear to God-”

Denki continued to ramble on. “I mean, you might as well just say that you don’t like her if you’re just gonna be-”

Bakugou was sure that he really was gonna kill Kaminari when he saw him. “If it helps to get you off my fucking back already then you know what? Yeah! I don’t like Y/N, I’m not interested in her, and we’re not friends.”

“Get out of my house.”
