Remembering Marta Bohn-Meyer, the only woman to fly in the SR-71 Blackbird as a crewmember
The SR-71 Blackbird
In the 1960’s, the US Air Force (USAF) developed the SR-71 Blackbird, a plane that could travel more than 3 times as fast as the sound produced by its own engines.

CLICK HERE to see The Aviation Geek Club contributor Linda Sheffield’s T-shirt designs! Linda has a personal relationship with the SR-71 because her father Butch Sheffield flew the Blackbird from test flight in 1965 until 1973. Butch’s Granddaughter’s Lisa Burroughs and Susan Miller are graphic designers. They designed most of the merchandise that is for sale on Threadless. A percentage of the profits go to Flight Test Museum at Edwards Air Force Base. This nonprofit charity is personal to the Sheffield family because they are raising money to house SR-71, #955. This was the first Blackbird that Butch Sheffield flew on Oct. 4, 1965.
Throughout its nearly 24-year career, the SR-71 spy plane remained the world’s fastest and highest-flying operational aircraft. Flying at Mach 3+ from 80,000 feet, it could survey 100,000 square miles of Earth’s surface per hour. And in the off chance an enemy tried to shoot it down with a missile, all the Blackbird had to do was speed up and outrun it.
Marta Bohn-Meyer, the only woman who flew aboard the legendary SR-71 Blackbird as a crewmember
The photos in this post features Marta Bohn-Meyer, the only woman who flew aboard the legendary SR-71 Blackbird as a crewmember.
Born in 1957, Marta Bohn-Meyer began her work in aerospace as a student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York in the late 1970s. According to Cosmosphere Blog, for three years, she participated in a cooperative research and education program the school held at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia.
When she finished school, she joined NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center (then Dryden) as an aeronautical research and operations engineer. She would eventually rise to the post of chief engineer after 22 years at this same location, after a series of roles with increasing responsibility, including:

Beginning in her teen years, Marta Bohn-Meyer’s favorite place was in and around airplanes both at work and while off duty. She was an accomplished private pilot and flight engineer, and was the first female crew member to fly at Mach 3 in the SR-71.

Deputy director of aerospace projects
Director of safety and mission assurance
Director of flight operations
Time in the SR-71B with the stick piloting the iconic HABU
In 1991, Bohn-Meyer became the first woman to crew the triple-sonic SR-71 Blackbird. She was assigned as a NASA flight engineer and had been with NASA twelve years by then. Her role was to help NASA obtain high-speed, high-altitude data to improve future aircraft design. The only other woman to have flown in the famously fast plane was Congresswoman Beverly Byron who rode as a VIP guest in 1985.
Bohn-Meyer (who was married to NASA test pilot Bob Mayer) not only flew the Blackbird as Reconnaissance Systems Officer (RSO) but she also had time in the SR-71B with the stick piloting the iconic HABU.

Marta Bohn-Meyer, Dryden’s chief engineer at the time of her recent death, celebrates her successful 1991 first flight at triple supersonic speeds in the SR-71 Blackbird. Bohn-Meyer was one of two women ever to fly in the storied aircraft and the only one to do so as a crew member; Congresswoman Beverly Byron took a guest VIP ride in 1985.

Widely known as a precision aerobatic pilot, Bohn-Meyer died on Sep. 18, 2005, when the Giles G-300 she flew in an aerobatic practice routine crashed near Oklahoma City.
Retired NASA deputy administrator Fred Gregory recalls being first assigned to mentor her when she began at Langley as a student:
“She was smart, detail-oriented, opinionated and professional well beyond her age.”
Kevin Petersen, director for Dryden (now Armstrong) Flight Research Center at the time of her passing, remarked on Bohn-Meyer’s “strength and her commitment to all she pursued.”

There are many stories in the world of rock music when the children of musicians continue the family tradition and become stage stars.
Tumblr media
The new band BASTARDANE, which includes a drummer Castor Hetfield, son of METALLICA frontman James Hetfield
Bastardane is a wild mix of sludge metal, thrash metal, progressive and melodic rock. It consists of Jake Dallas (vocals and bass), Ethan Sirotsky (guitar) and Castor Hetfield (drums).
Tumblr media
Slipknot
The cult metal band Slipknot featured 33-year-old drummer Jay Weinberg, the son of the famous Max Weinberg, who stood at the origins of the legendary E Street Band and worked with Bruce Springsteen. Weinberg Jr. was part of Slipknot from 2014 to 2023.

Suspect208
London Hudson, 21, the son of Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, is the drummer of the Los Angeles band Classless Act, as well as the founder of the band Suspect208.
Tumblr media
"208 is my studio number, and it was here that Noah [Weiland] and I started composing music together. It was our refuge, where we could spend days and nights, composing, playing, sleeping. This was our secret place. And all the shit that's going on out there, it's very suspicious," London shared. And the word "suspect" just translates as "suspicious".

Tumblr media
SWMRS
Joey Armstrong, the drummer of SWMRS, is the son of Green Day frontman Billy Joe Armstrong. The resemblance is striking!
Tumblr media
As Lions
As Lions frontman Austin Dickinson is the son of the famous Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden. Austin noted that the main task of As Lions is to create "the coolest and heaviest hard rock they are capable of."

Tumblr media
Inhaler
Elijah Hewson, vocalist and guitarist of Inhaler, is the son of U2 frontman Paul Hewson, better known as Bono. Hewson's parents hold the position that Elijah must achieve everything on his own. They don't help their son more than they need to: even when his hotel reservation was canceled during the band's first tour, his parents told him to sleep "on a park bench." Interestingly, the band's name, which translates as "inhaler", was given to the band because of Hewson's asthma.

Tumblr media
The Wallflowers
54-year–old Jacob Dylan, the frontman of The Wallflowers, is the son of iconic singer and songwriter Bob Dylan. The Wallflowers became famous in 1996 after the release of the album "Bringing Down the Horse", which won two Grammy Awards, and the songs "One Spotlight" and "6th Avenue Heartache" became hits.

Tumblr media
Motel 7
The Motel 7 line–up includes Anton Khabbaz and Dylan Jagger Lee, the son of Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson. The guys don't get hung up on any particular musical genre and experiment with different styles, combining them: from modern alt-pop and shades of hip-hop to the light sound of indie/alt-rock of the 2000s.

Tumblr media
Taipei Houston
Taipei Houston is a new band featuring two sons of Metallica founder Lars Ulrich, Miles and Lane, who play drums and bass guitar respectively. After Lars heard them perform the classic Beatles' Eleanor Rigby, he said he was proud of his sons. In his opinion, none of the covers of this song were filled with such energy and madness of garage rock.

Wake me up when the awards season ends, but also here are my faves:
Outstanding Drama Series: Succession will win and rightfully so, but Better Call Saul went so hard as well.
Outstanding Comedy Series: The Bear.
Best limited/anthology series: Beef.
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series: Either one of the Succession guys (preferably Kieran Culkin this year) or Bob Odenkirk.
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series: Sarah Snook. Not even going to debate this one. Season 4 was hers.
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series: Jeremy Allen White.
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series: Natasha Lyonne.
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series: Matthew Macfadyen.
Why was Nicholas Braun even nominated this year?
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: No offense to J. Smith-Cameron and the White Lotus ladies (Jennifer Coolidge, the icon that you are), because they were all lovely, but Rhea Seehorn deserves it this year.
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series: Ebon Moss-Bachrach
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series: Ayo Edebiri
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie: Steven Yeun
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie: Ali Wong
Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series: A toss among Mark Mylod, Andrij Parekh and Lorene Scafaria.
Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie: Lee Sung Jin. But Jake Schreier will do too.
Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series: Wow, an embarrassment of riches. Jesse Armstrong for "Connor's Wedding" of course, but Gordon Smith (for "Point and Shoot") and Peter Gould (for "Saul Gone") come so close.
Outstanding Music Composition for a Series: Nicholas Britell.
Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series: Toss between Hiam Abbass and Harriet Walter. Probably the former this year.
Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series: Judith Light.
However, give Cherry Jones all the awards for her own appearance on Poker Face. Amazed she was nominated for Succession, but not Poker Face. She ate.
Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie: Jody Lee Lipes

James Coburn and Kris Kristofferson in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (Sam Peckinpah, 1973) Cast: James Coburn, Kris Kristofferson, Bob Dylan, Richard Jaeckel, Slim Pickens, Katy Jurado, Chill Wills, Barry Sullivan, Jason Robards, R.G. Armstrong, Luke Askew, John Beck, Jack Elam, Rita Coolidge, Charles Martin Smith, Harry Dean Stanton. Screenplay: Rudy Wurlitzer. Cinematography: John Coquillon. Music: Bob Dylan. With its laid-back pace punctuated by moments of violence, not to mention its soundtrack by Bob Dylan, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid may be the ultimate stoner Western*. After being mutilated by MGM -- the credits list six film editors -- it was savaged by critics on its first release, but the release on video of Sam Peckinpah's original preview version in 1988 caused a reevaluation of the film, with some now calling it a masterpiece. I wouldn't go that far: To my mind the narrative is still too elliptical and the inspiration -- rewriting a myth -- too commonplace. But it has moments of brilliance that transcend its flaws, such as the beautiful sequence of the death of Sheriff Baker (Slim Pickens), with its fine use of the iconic performers Pickens and Katy Jurado and the underscoring with Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." James Coburn, always an underrated actor in his prime, is wonderful as Pat Garrett, and while Kris Kristofferson was never much of an actor, he and Coburn play well against each other. Dylan was no actor, either, but he's used well here as the enigmatic figure who lets himself be known as "Alias," and the scene in which Garrett forces him to read the labels of canned goods while he toys with other members of Billy's gang is nicely done. The gallery of character actors both old (Chill Wills, Jack Elam) and new (Charles Martin Smith, Harry Dean Stanton) is welcome. Its post-censorship era's exploitation of women -- there are an awful lot of bared breasts, though we also get a fleeting butt-shot of Kristofferson -- is overdone, and it certainly wouldn't earn any seal of approval from the American Humane Society after the scene in which live chickens are used for target practice.
*The huge success of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (George Roy Hill, 1969) spawned a lot of movies that took an irreverent look at the legend of the American Old West and were aimed at the younger countercultural audience. Most of them were seen as commentaries on American violence and the quagmire of the Vietnam War. They include such diverse films as Little Big Man (Arthur Penn, 1970), McCabe & Mrs. Miller (Robert Altman, 1971), The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid (Philip Kaufman, 1972), The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (John Huston, 1972), and Blazing Saddles (Mel Brooks, 1974).

Flapper Era Frenzy: Exploring the Artistic Spirit of the Roaring Twenties
The Roaring Twenties, often referred to as the “Flapper Era,” was a time of cultural revolution, artistic innovation, and societal transformation. This exhilarating decade, spanning from the end of World War I to the Great Depression, witnessed a burst of creativity and boldness in various art forms. In this article, we delve into the artistic spirit of the Roaring Twenties, exploring the impact it had on art, fashion, music, and lifestyle.
1. Artistic Revolution:
The 1920s saw a significant shift in the world of visual arts. The influence of avant-garde movements like Cubism, Surrealism, and Dadaism was palpable. Artists embraced experimentation, abstraction, and non-traditional materials, giving rise to exciting new forms of expression.
2. The Jazz Age:
Jazz music became the heartbeat of the era, capturing the rebellious spirit and unbridled energy of the time. Iconic musicians like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Bessie Smith enchanted audiences with their improvisation and syncopation. Jazz was more than just music; it was a cultural phenomenon that permeated every aspect of life.
3. Fashion Forward:
The “flapper” style epitomized the changing attitudes towards women and their roles in society. Flappers, with their bobbed hair, dropped-waist dresses, and bold makeup, challenged traditional gender norms and celebrated individuality. The fashion of the 1920s continues to inspire designers and fashion enthusiasts today.
4. Art Deco Aesthetics:
Art Deco, a design style characterized by geometric shapes, bold colors, and sleek lines, became synonymous with the era. It left its mark on architecture, fashion, and decorative arts. The opulent and glamorous Flapper art Deco style continues to be celebrated for its elegance and sophistication.
5. Literary Renaissance:
The Roaring Twenties also witnessed a literary renaissance, with the works of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Langston Hughes, and Virginia Woolf pushing the boundaries of storytelling. These writers explored themes of disillusionment, excess, and societal change, reflecting the complexities of the time.
6. Film and the Silver Screen:
The 1920s marked the golden age of silent cinema, with stars like Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Clara Bow captivating audiences worldwide. The transition to “talkies” later in the decade, with the release of “The Jazz Singer,” revolutionized the film industry and paved the way for the modern era of cinema.
7. Lifestyle and Social Change:
The Roaring Twenties represented a dramatic departure from the conservative values of the past. Prohibition led to speakeasies and clandestine drinking, while the Charleston dance epitomized the carefree and rebellious spirit of the era. It was a time of social change, with women’s suffrage, increased urbanization, and the emergence of a youth-oriented culture.
8. Legacy and Influence:
The artistic and cultural innovations of the Roaring Twenties continue to influence contemporary art, fashion, and design. Elements of Art Deco can be seen in modern architecture and interior decor, while the spirit of rebellion and individualism still resonates with today’s youth culture.
In conclusion, the Roaring Twenties was a period of immense artistic creativity and cultural upheaval. It challenged conventions, celebrated individuality, and left a lasting impact on art, fashion, music, and lifestyle. The legacy of the Flapper Era continues to inspire and captivate generations, reminding us of the enduring power of artistic spirit and cultural innovation.

Spring is a season full of promise and new beginnings, and what better way to celebrate this than by exploring the diverse soundtrack that accompanies it. As the snow thaws and the flowers bloom, it’s time to shed our winter coat and step into the new and exciting world of music. From pop to jazz, the soundtrack of spring can be as diverse as the season itself. Pop music has always been the perfect soundtrack for spring. It’s bright and upbeat, perfect for those sunny and optimistic days. Pop artists have produced some of the most infectious tracks that have become synonymous with spring. Think of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” or Maroon 5’s “Sugar”; these are the songs that get stuck in your head and have you humming along for days. Today, pop music continues to be the go-to genre for spring, with artists such as Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa and Harry Styles leading the way. But pop isn’t the only genre that captures the magic of spring. Jazz, with its smooth and soulful sound, can be the perfect accompaniment to a lazy spring afternoon. Jazz music is renowned for its ability to transport you to a different time and place, and nothing captures the essence of spring quite like the sweet, slow melody of a jazz tune. Some of the most iconic jazz songs have been inspired by the season of spring, like Ella Fitzgerald’s “April in Paris” or Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World”. As spring brings with it the promise of new beginnings, it’s perhaps the perfect time to discover new music. Don’t be afraid to explore outside of your comfort zone and try something new. Indie music, for instance, is a genre that often goes overlooked but can produce some of the most unique and captivating soundtracks for spring. Artists such as Mac DeMarco, Vampire Weekend and The Strokes have all created music that pairs perfectly with the season, giving an alternative option for those looking for something different. If you’re feeling adventurous, why not try exploring other cultures through music? The global music scene is incredibly diverse, and there’s a whole world of artists waiting to be discovered. Reggae music, for example, captures the laidback and carefree spirit of spring, with artists such as Bob Marley and Buju Banton creating music that transports you to the beaches of Jamaica. The same can be said for Latin music, with artists such as Shakira and Marc Anthony producing some of the most energetic and lively tracks that can get anyone in the mood for spring. In conclusion, spring is not just about cherry blossoms and daffodils – it’s also about discovering new music and exploring different sounds. From pop to jazz to indie to reggae, every genre has its own unique flair that can make your spring even more special. So grab your headphones and dive into the diverse soundtrack of spring – you never know what you might discover. Try this From Pop to Jazz: Exploring the Diverse Soundtrack of Spring

London’s Top 5 Most Legendary Music Venues
Tumblr media
There are many incredible, world beating icons in London. Famous buildings, world class tourist attractions and amazing activities- but people often forget about London’s live music scene.
As one of the world’s greatest centres of culture it should come as no surprise that many of history's greatest musicians have played some pretty legendary gigs in London. The live music scene evolved heavily, but the big hitters always came back, and that is due to London’s many incredible venues.
If you’re visiting London for a legendary gig in the near future then book a room at the Grand Royale Hyde Park; it’s the best Hyde Park accommodation and one of the finest hotels near Bayswater Station. You’ll be perfectly situated to explore the city and check out some of London’s most famous live music venues.
Let’s take a look at the best of the best.
O2 Academy, Brixton
Formerly known as the Brixton Academy, this venue has been at the forefront of live music in the city since 1983.
It has played host to some of the biggest names from around the world like Madonna, The Smiths, Bob Dylan, Dr. Dre- it really has seen pretty much everyone through those iconic doors.
It was originally opened as a cinema, but found its true place in the world of music.
Royal Albert Hall
The Royal Albert is not only an icon in the world of music, but also in the world of architecture and design. It holds one of the largest glass domes in the world, and is supposed to have near perfect acoustics.
It has hosted music since 1941 and really does attract musicians and audiences from every genre. The world’s greatest orchestras play in the hall, as well as some of the biggest bands and artists from all over the world- even Paverotti held the stage.
Ronnie Scott’s
Musician Ronnie Scott opened this bar in 1959 as a place for local jazz musicians to jam and practice; since then it has become one of the most famous jazz clubs in the world.
Some of the biggest names to ever grace the stage have performed there including Ella Fitzegerald, Miles Davies, Nina Simone and Chet Baker- that’s a pretty impressive list.
Ronnies Scott’s is also where Jimi Hendrix tragically played his last gig in 1970, which cemented the club’s place in the musical history books.
Koko
Originally known as The Music Machine and later as Camden Palace, this stunning venue really found its place in music and is now called Koko.
Madonna actually performed her first ever UK gig here, and it has hosted some incredible names since then. Prince, Coldplay, Lady Gaga and Kanye West to name but a few.
100 Club
The 100 Club actually started off as a swing joint, but quickly became a mecca for live jazz. In the 70s some incredible names played at the club and cemented its name in history.
David Bowie, Louis Armstrong, The Rolling Stones and Oasis have all played here- and when Jimi Hendrix lived in London it was one of his favourite places to perform.
Music History in London
So there you have it, some of the most famous musical locations in the city, and some of the incredible musicians who have played them.
Enjoy a weekend of culture in the city, and maybe snag the finest afternoon tea near Hyde Park at the Grand Royal in the morning- you probably won’t want to travel too far after a night in one of these incredible joints!

MESSIAH'S EASTERTIDE JUBILEE – revised & expanded Apr 21, 2023 – by David D. Fowler & Aeon 999
Welcome to MFF's 2022 Easter spectacular. Like our past efforts, this 7-part extravaganza features a well-stocked cornucopia of outstanding videos. Our purpose is to enhance the celebration of the glorious Eastertide tradition – from now, until the Eastern Orthodox Day Of Pentecost in June.
These items constitute the best available resources we could find online, representing many different views of Christ-based spirituality and artistic endeavors – as well as alternative spiritual paths, and articulate expressions of skepticism. We offer complete editions of many films, including secular productions that deal with themes such as the supernatural; good versus evil; human depravity; self-sacrifice; redemption; and superheroism, as a metaphor for salvation.
We present a generous spectrum of outstanding music – including rock, classical, black gospel, sacred choral, blues, jazz, and experimental performances. You'll also encounter a variety of hilarious videos, including some exceedingly irreverent items; and intense debates, focusing on fascinating and passionate takes on the myriad realities of Christ's impact on the world.

Today we remember the passing of Joey Ramone who Died: April 15, 2001 in Manhattan, New York
Jeffrey Ross Hyman, known professionally as Joey Ramone, was an American musician, singer, composer, and lead vocalist of the punk rock band the Ramones. Joey Ramone's image, voice, and tenure as frontman of the Ramones made him a countercultural icon.
Jeffrey Ross Hyman was born on May 19, 1951, in Queens, New York City, New York to a Jewish family. His parents were Charlotte (née Mandell) and Noel Hyman. He was born with a parasitic twin growing out of his back, which was incompletely formed and surgically removed. The family resided in Forest Hills, Queens, where Hyman and his future Ramones bandmates attended Forest Hills High School. He grew up with his brother Mickey Leigh. Though happy, Hyman was something of an outcast, diagnosed at 18 with obsessive–compulsive disorder alongside being diagnosed with schizophrenia. His mother, Charlotte Lesher, divorced her first husband, Noel Hyman. She married a second time but was widowed by a car accident while she was on vacation.
Hyman was a fan of the Beatles, the Who, David Bowie, and the Stooges among other bands, particularly oldies and the Phil Spector-produced "girl groups". His idol was Pete Townshend of the Who, with whom he shared a birthday. Hyman took up the drums at 13, and played them throughout his teen years before picking up an acoustic guitar at age 17.
In 1974, Jeffrey Hyman co-founded the punk rock band the Ramones with friends John Cummings and Douglas Colvin. Colvin was already using the pseudonym "Dee Dee Ramone" and the others also adopted stage names using "Ramone" as their surname: Cummings became Johnny Ramone and Hyman became Joey Ramone. The name "Ramone" stems from Paul McCartney: he briefly used the stage name "Paul Ramon" during 1960/1961, when the Beatles, still an unknown five-piece band called the Silver Beetles, did a tour of Scotland and all took up pseudonyms; and again on the 1969 Steve Miller album Brave New World, where he played the drums on one song using that name.
Joey initially served as the group's drummer while Dee Dee Ramone was the original vocalist. However, when Dee Dee's vocal cords proved unable to sustain the demands of consistent live performances, Ramones manager Thomas Erdelyi suggested Joey switch to vocals. Mickey Leigh: "I was shocked when the band came out. Joey was the lead singer and I couldn't believe how good he was. Because he'd been sitting in my house with my acoustic guitar, writing these songs like 'I Don't Care', fucking up my guitar, and suddenly he's this guy on stage who you can't take your eyes off of." After a series of unsuccessful auditions in search of a new drummer, Erdelyi took over on drums, assuming the name Tommy Ramone.
The Ramones were a major influence on the punk rock movement in the United States, though they achieved only minor commercial success. Their only record with enough U.S. sales to be certified gold in Joey's lifetime was the compilation album Ramones Mania. Recognition of the band's importance built over the years, and they are now regularly represented in many assessments of all-time great rock music, such as the Rolling Stone lists of the 50 Greatest Artists of All Time and 25 Greatest Live Albums of All Time, VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock, and Mojo's 100 Greatest Albums. In 2002, the Ramones were voted the second greatest rock and roll band ever in Spin, behind the Beatles.
In 1996, after a tour with the Lollapalooza music festival, the band played their final show and then disbanded.
Ramone's signature cracks, hiccups, snarls, crooning, and youthful voice made him one of punk rock's most recognizable voices. Allmusic.com wrote that "Joey Ramone's signature bleat was the voice of punk rock in America." As his vocals matured and deepened through his career, so did the Ramones' songwriting, leaving a notable difference from his initial melodic and callow style—two notable tracks serving as examples are "Somebody Put Something in My Drink" and "Mama's Boy". Dee Dee Ramone was quoted as saying "All the other singers in New York were copying David Johansen (New York Dolls), who was copying Mick Jagger... But Joey was unique, totally unique."
In 1985, Ramone joined Steven Van Zandt's music industry activist group Artists United Against Apartheid, which campaigned against the Sun City resort in South Africa. Ramone and 49 other recording artists – including Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Keith Richards, Lou Reed and Run DMC — collaborated on the song "Sun City", in which they pledged they would never perform at the resort.
In 1994, Ramone appeared on the Helen Love album Love and Glitter, Hot Days and Music, singing the track "Punk Boy". Helen Love returned the favor, singing on Ramone's song "Mr. Punchy".
In October 1996, Ramone headlined the "Rock the Reservation" alternative rock festival in Tuba City, Arizona. 'Joey Ramone & the Resistance' debuted Ramone's interpretation of Louis Armstrong's "Wonderful World' live, as well as Ramone's choice of Ramones classics and some of his other favorite songs; The Dave Clark Five's "Any Way You Want It", The Who's "The Kids are Alright" and The Stooges' "No Fun."
Ramone co-wrote and recorded the song "Meatball Sandwich" with Youth Gone Mad. For a short time before his death, he took the role of manager and producer for the punk rock band the Independents.
His last recording as a vocalist was backup vocals on the CD One Nation Under by the Dine Navajo rock group Blackfire. He appeared on two tracks, "What Do You See" and "Lying to Myself". The 2002 CD won "Best Pop/Rock Album of the Year" at the 2002 Native American Music Awards.
Ramone produced the Ronnie Spector album She Talks to Rainbows in 1999. It was critically acclaimed but was not very commercially successful. The title track was previously on the Ramones' final studio album, ¡Adios Amigos!.
Joey Ramone died at the age of 49 following a seven-year battle with lymphoma at New York-Presbyterian Hospital on April 15, 2001, a month before he would have turned 50. He was reportedly listening to the song "In a Little While" by U2 when he died. In an interview in 2014 for Radio 538, U2 lead singer Bono confirmed that Joey Ramone's family told him that Ramone listened to the song before he died, which Andy Shernoff (The Dictators) also confirmed.
His solo album Don't Worry About Me was released posthumously in 2002, and features the single "What a Wonderful World", a cover of the Louis Armstrong standard. MTV News claimed: "With his trademark rose-colored shades, black leather jacket, shoulder-length hair, ripped jeans and alternately snarling and crooning vocals, Joey was the iconic godfather of punk."
On November 30, 2003, a block of East 2nd Street in New York City was officially renamed Joey Ramone Place. It is the block where Hyman once lived with bandmate Dee Dee Ramone and is near the former site of the music club CBGB, where the Ramones began their career. Hyman's birthday is celebrated annually by rock 'n' roll nightclubs, hosted in New York City by his brother and, until 2007, his mother, Charlotte. Joey Ramone is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Lyndhurst, New Jersey.
The Ramones were named as inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2002.
Several songs have been written in tribute to Joey Ramone. Tommy, CJ and Marky Ramone and Daniel Rey came together in 2002 to record Jed Davis' Joey Ramone tribute album, The Bowery Electric. Other tributes include "Hello Joe" by Blondie from the album The Curse of Blondie, "Drunken Angel" by Lucinda Williams, "You Can't Kill Joey Ramone" by Sloppy Seconds, Joey by Raimundos, "I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone" by Sleater-Kinney, "Red and White Stripes" by Moler and "Joey" by the Corin Tucker Band, "I Heard Ramona Sing" by Frank Black, Amy Rigby's "Dancin' With Joey Ramone" and "The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)" by U2.
In September 2010, the Associated Press reported that "Joey Ramone Place," a sign at the corner of Bowery and East Second Street, was New York City's most stolen sign. Later, the sign was moved to 20 ft (6.1 m) above ground level. Drummer Marky Ramone thought Joey would appreciate that his sign would be the most stolen, adding "Now you have to be an NBA player to see it."
After several years in development, Ramone's second posthumous album was released on May 22, 2012. Titled ...Ya Know?, it was preceded on Record Store Day by a 7" single re-release of "Blitzkrieg Bop"/"Havana Affair"

Why is Robin red, green and yellow?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today is March 5, 2020, which means it's exactly 80 years since the debut of Robin and Dick Grayson (even though Detective Comics # 38 is listed as the April issue). To celebrate, I thought that I'd explore the roots of his iconic costume.
When Robin was created back in 1940, the artist Jerry Robinson (co-creator of Robin and the one who suggested the name Robin), credits Robin Hood illustrations by N C Wyeth (1882–1945) as inspiration. As you can see, there is a lot of green in Robin Hood’s clothes and he wears a vest. It is brown and not red – but the thing is, back in the 40s, red was a better choice for a comic book than brown. The printing process was cruder that it is today, and the Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black dots worked best to produce bright primary colours.
But what has been the in-universe explanations for the colourful sidekick suit?
Tumblr media
Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder. Detective Comics # 38. By Bill Finger, art Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson.
Originally, we don’t know who made the suit, though the name is an allusion to Robin Hood. Dick and John used red tops when The Flying Graysons performed and Mary has a green suit (actually, more like briefs and a bra, which makes zero sense....) Hypothetically, the Robin suit could be Mary’s green shorts and Dick’s and John’s red top.
Tumblr media
In 1955 there was a story where a teenage Bruce was the first Robin. Why he is supposed to have used the traffic stop lights is unknown but the detective Harvey Harris came up with the name Robin since the costume is “brilliant as a Robin redbreast”. “When Batman Was Robin” (by Edmond Hamilton, in Detective Comics # 226,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Batman # 437, part of Batman Year Three, Bruce makes the Robin suit with inspiration from the Graysons circus costume. (By Marv Wolfman, art Pat Broderick and John Beatty.) (The panel with the Flying Graysons is from Batman # 436.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first time it’s made clear that Dick decides about the Robin suit and chooses the name is in Year One. Robin Annual # 4. By Chuck Dixon, art Jason Armstrong and Robert Campanella. Mary called Dick Robin because he came the first day of Spring. And the colours are the ones they performed in.
Tumblr media
Batman: Dark Victory. By Jeph Loeb, art Tim Sale. (1999–2000)
In this story, Dick takes the name Robin because it’s his mother’s nickname for him, and the colours are the ones his parents wore in the circus.
If we take a sneak peak outside the comic world, in both the movie Batman from 1995 and the tv show The Batman from 2006, Dick chooses the name Robin because he had, one way or another, been called that by a member of his family. The colours are based on his circus outfit.
Tumblr media
Grayson, Future’s end. By Tom King and Tim Seeley, art Stephen Mooney.
And this one is just plain stupid if you ask me. Dick has obviously not chosen the colours and it seems Bruce made the choice to... teach him a lesson by letting criminals use him for target practice?? Or something??
I'm not a fan of this suit, and in my mind, it is clear that Dick used the original suit when he first started as Robin, as we've seen in flashback panels since Rebirth, and that this one is from his elder teenage years. But in Nightwing vol 3 # 0, Dick makes this suit himself out of spare parts for the Batsuit.
Tumblr media
Nightwing vol 3 # 0.
In the New 52, the Graysons performed in a blue suit, obviously based on Nightwing with stylized birdwings and all...
Tumblr media
Nightwing vol 3 # 0. By Tom De Falco and Kyle Higgins. Art Eddy Barrows and Eber Ferreira.
Tumblr media
Grayson # 1. By Tom King and Tim Seeley, art Mikel Janín, Stephen Mooney, Guillermo Ortego and Juan Castro.
Tumblr media
It is glaringly obvious that there is no editing for consistency in the DC comics, because in Rebirth Batman, we’ve seen the Flying Graysons back to performing in red and green and a touch of yellow.
Batman vol 3 # 54. By Tom King, art Matt Wagner.
Tumblr media
Nightwing vol 4 # 23.
While in the Nightwing book, they have both died in the blue suits seen in New 52, and in a green outfit (that looks a lot like the one from All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder).
Tumblr media
Nightwing vol 4 # 62.
Nightwing vol 4 Annual # (2019).
Tumblr media
All Star Batman & Robin, the Boy Wonder # 1 (2005)
Even more recently, in the Robin 80th anniversary special, the Grayson’s are back in red, green and yellow.

“A little nudge” By Marv Wolfman, art Tom Grummet and Scott Hanna.

Disenchantment has returned for a third season and its amazing ensemble of veteran voice actors has returned with it. The new season also boasts some impressive guest stars, who only appear for an episode or two, but have a major impact upon the story and setting.
Set in a fantasy realm that may also be the same reality as Futurama, Disenchantment centers around Princess Tabeanie, or Bean for short. A hard-drinking rebel who has little use for her father's ideas about marrying her off to secure an alliance with a neighboring nation, Bean feels that there's some great destiny awaiting her somewhere outside the gates of Dreamland. She's right, but she's also not too crazy about fulfilling that destiny, which involves paying a debt her mother's family owes Hell and having a crown screwed into her head.

Season 3 picks up right where season 2 ended, with Bean having escaped being burned at the stake as a witch by a mob of Dreamlanders only to find herself surrounded by an entirely different mob of Trogs: a race of stunted, sub-terrain cave dwellers, who are in league with Bean's treacherous mother, Queen Dagmar. Here's a rundown of all the returning cast of Disenchantment and the roles that they play, as well as all the guest stars with major roles in season 3.
Tumblr media
The lead heroine of Disenchantment, Bean is not your typical tomboy princess who wants adventure in the great wide somewhere. She'd be much happier if she just had the freedom to get wasted and pick up whatever cute guys she could find at the tavern, but fate (and the rest of the world, it seems) have other plans for her. She is voiced by Abbi Jacobson, who is best known as the creator and star of Broad City. She can also be heard in Bojack Horseman as the voice of Todd's ex-girlfriend, Emily.
Tumblr media
Luci is Bean's own personal demon, bonded to her for all eternity to push her to the path of wickedness. This proved to be a much easier job than Luci's masters in Hell had anticipated, and he soon began to slack off on his demonic duties to run a bar and contribute to the general wickedness of Dreamland as a whole. Luci is voiced by Eric André, who is perhaps most famous as the creator and host of The Eric André Show. He also voiced the hyena Azizi in The Lion King remake.
Tumblr media
Too cynical for the world of elves and too naïve for the world of man, Elfo is a half-elf who isn't entirely sure where he belongs. He has found a place at Bean's side, but his crush on her is unrequited and the only other love he seems to find is in all the wrong places (very wrong, incredibly sick and filthy wrong places). Elfo is voiced by writer/actor Nat Faxon, who is probably best known for his collaborations with Jim Rash, such as The Descendants and The Way, Way Back. He also played a lead in the FX show Married and the Netflix comedy series Friends From College. More recently, he's provided the voice for Captain Underpants in The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants in Space and will be playing Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars: Detours series.

Tumblr media
Absolute ruler of Dreamland and Bean's beloved (if begrudging) father, King Zøg starts season 3 in ill health and on the verge of losing his life along with his crown. Naturally Zøg being Zøg, he's more concerned about the hat than his health. He is voiced by animation legend John DiMaggio, who is well known to Futurama fans as the voice of Bender. He also provided the voice for Jake the Dog in Adventure Time, Dr. Drakken on Kim Possible, and even Marcus Fenix in the Gears of War video game series. Recently, he voiced Heidegger in the English dub of the Final Fantasy VII remake. He also voiced both King Shark and the demon Trigon in Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.
Tumblr media
The second wife of Zøg, who abandoned him and Dreamland to seek a new life as Queen of the Pirates, Oona returns to Dreamland in Disenchantment season 3. She is voiced by Tress MacNeille, who has voiced multiple characters on both The Simpsons and Futurama, including Agnes Skinner and Mom (of Mom's Friendly Robot Corp.). MacNeille also provides the voices for Prince Derek and the Archdruidess who leads Dreamland's state religion. She is also beloved as the voice of Dot Warner from Animaniacs.
Tumblr media
Heir to the throne of the neighboring kingdom of Bentwood, Prince Merkimer was intended to be Bean's second fiancée after the untimely impalement of his older brother. While the wedding was called off after he was turned into a talking pig, Merkimer continued to hang around the palace of Dreamland being sad and/or drunk. He is voiced by British comedian Matt Berry, who is famous for his appearances on The IT Crowd, Toast of London, and What We Do In The Shadows. He can currently be heard in The Watch, lending his voice to a magic sword named Wayne.
Tumblr media
A torturer and executioner by trade, Stan is still a jovial man who does his job with a kind word and a craftsman's eye. He is voiced by British comedy legend Noel Fielding, who is well-known as one half of The Mighty Boosh and for playing Richmond in The IT Crowd. Viewers may recognize him as a co-presenter for The Great British Bake-Off. He also lent his voice to Balthazar in The LEGO Movie 2.

Tumblr media
Still best known for playing the role of Michael Bolton in Office Space, David Herman went on to become one of the most prolific voice actors in Hollywood. He voices several characters in Disenchantment, the most notable being the Herald of Dreamland. He also provides the voices for Bean's uncle Jerry and the snarky spa attendant Chazz. He can also be heard as Mr. Frond in Bob's Burgers and Dmitry in Central Park.
Tumblr media
Bean's mother and King Zøg's first wife, Dagmar is a wicked witch who has big plans for Bean involving some sort of prophecy. Season 3 will find her once again manipulating her daughter for her own sinister designs. Dagmar is voiced by Sharon Horgan, a comedian and voice actor who has appeared in several British sitcoms including Catastrophe and This Way Up. She provides the voices for Courtney Portnoy in Bojack Horseman and Kathleen in Bob's Burgers and also appeared in the movie Game Night
Tumblr media
One of the most prolific voice actors in the business, Maurice LaMarche is perhaps most famous for his impression of Orson Welles, whom he played on both The Simpsons and Futurama. His voice was also dubbed over Vincent D'Onofrio's performance as Orson Wells in Tim Burton's biographical film Ed Wood. LaMarche's chief role on Disenchantment is the treacherous, three-eyed minister Odval, but he voices a number of supporting roles as well, such as the legendary demon hunter Big Jo.
Tumblr media
Bunty is Bean's simple-minded, ever-pregnant maid. She is voiced by Lucy Montgomery, who will be familiar to many fans of British comedy. She appeared in the 2011 revival of Absolutely Fabulous, The Armstrong and Miller Show, Bellamy's People of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Tracy Breaks the Internet. She can also be heard on a number of children's programs, having lent her voice to both Thomas the Tank-Engine and Bob the Builder.

The chief wizard of Dreamland ever since he was allowed to put stars on his dunce cap, Sorcerio is perhaps the most incompetent member of Dreamland's ruling council — a low bar to jump over. He is voiced by legendary voice actor Billy West, who is instantly recognizable to fans of Futurama as the voice of Fry, Zoidberg, Zapp Brannigan and Professor Farnsworth. West has provided several iconic voices over his long career, including the title characters from The Ren & Stimpy Show and Doug. West pulls quadruple-duty on Disenchantment as well, also providing the voices for the Jester, Sir Mertz, and the Elf King Rulo.
Tumblr media
Season 3 of Disenchantment briefly finds Elfo confined to a freak show, where he befriends a sarcastic mermaid named Mora who has dreams of being an actress. Mora is voiced by Meredith Hagner, who might be recognized as Portia Davenport from Search Party. She also voiced Madison on Bob's Burgers.
Tumblr media
Rich Fulcher as Sir Turbish - Best known for his work with Noel Fielding and Matt Berry on various projects, Rich Fulcher returns to voice the awkward but well meaning Sir Turbish.
Lauren Tom as Trixy - Well known to Futurama fans as the voice of Amy Wong, Lauren Tom lends her voice to Trixy: a female Torg who develops a truly disturbing attraction to Elfo.
Richard Ayoade as Alva - Best known as Maurice Moss from The IT Crowd, Richard Ayodae plays Alva, the mysterious man who essentially rules Steamland.
Phil LaMarr as God - Best known to Futurama fans as the voice of Hermes Conrad, Phil LaMarr returns as the voice of God, the chief deity of Disenchantment's cosmology.
