had myself a little crisis while discovering the work of pete menefee, like “was this guy a ghost artist for bob mackie, or vice versa, or what is going on?” even their signatures look similar to me
menefee above & mackie below
turns out their styles are just near identical, & they actually worked together as co-designers on the showgirl production jubilee in 1980/1981
the costumes for jubilee look pure mackie, but menefee is the one who drew them!

There are a seemingly never ending list of Bob Mackie Barbies that I could talk about. For today, I'd like to bring up Masquerade Ball Barbie.
Masquerade Ball Barbie was a collectors edition Barbie which came out in 1993. As with the majority of Bob Mackie dolls, she came packaged with a signed Bob Mackie illustration of the concept design for the doll.
Conceptually there is one major problem - the elephant in the room, really. For all that she is called "Masquerade Ball Barbie", she is not actually displayed in box wearing a mask of any kind. She is not doing a very thorough job of attending a masquerade ball. (Perhaps this doll display takes place post-unmasking?)
Her dress is extremely cool though, and I love the feathered hat. I just can't help but think that she looks like she is dressed for some kind of regular gala rather than a Masquerade.
