I don't use many social media sites, but I will begin posting both on Tumblr and Cohost from here on out. Although both sites may be a bit tenuous in terms of longevity, I really enjoy sharing art with you all, and want to do so on a site that values privacy as much as it does community. I think right now Tumblr and Cohost are my best bet.

And thank you guys for the kind words in the tags! I reread them all the time.

I feel when people talk about the differences between Deltarune and Undertale, they usually say that Snowgrave is 'darker' than the Genocide route, which is really interesting to me! Because I feel like it's less of a case of one being darker than the other, but rather in one it's easier to dismiss your actions, which can make it seem a bit more palatable, almost. And that difference is interesting to zoom in on and discuss.

In Undertale, the things you do to the monsters are absolutely horrid. You go to and fro and make sure No One is left standing. It's awful. It's tragic.

But even as despicable as it is diegetically, there's still...distance. Almost like an emotional barrier you can put yourself behind to make all those deaths knaw at your heart a bit less. You say it's to fight Sans. It's for the dialogue. You're grinding. It's not actually you. It's Frisk. It's Chara. It's something else. This is what we all tell ourselves, subconsciously. We try not to think too hard about it at all, even.

But this is where Deltarune takes a direct approach, and I think because Toby takes it in such a difference direction; makes it so much more...interpersonal, it stirs a reaction within us that we don't like. Even more so now. It's the same guilt we got from Undertale but this time it's intimate. And that intimacy is horrifying. Because they all know Kris. You're not just occupying a missing kid who stumbled down a mountain whose name you don't even know your first run through anymore. You're Kris; the chocolate-eater; the misfit with a rebellious skew; the quiet but witty kid; the Kris Dreemurr. There's parameters now of how people expect Kris to act, and by extension— the metaphysical anamoly controlling them. You.

And it's because of how we so ruthlessly snap and break these parameters that make it harder to brush it off. That even our intrigue can't ignore how it frightens us in a way we can't really describe. I think this is most notable in the Snowgrave hospital sequence, where you start advancing on Noelle. Physically. And even though the entire scene is blacked out, the fact that when Noelle leaves afterwards you can see Kris is only a step away from the wall. That even though it's ommitted you know you went well beyond her physically boundaries. And it's so...morbid. Deltarune I think gets to your head more because instead of guilty it makes you feel slimy. Gross. Digusted with yourself. Disgusted by you desire to see it through. That you're forcing Kris and Noelle to... And that in itself is incredibly fascinating, if not macabre, because after all. We're only on Chapter 2.

So it begs the question. What in the world are these kids even going to be like when we're done with them?

#broken. #bobalina rambles #deltarune #I've been thinking some big thoughts recently about deltarune! #and in general how dark media teaches us lessons compared to different kinds of stories #because dark media relies on your visceral. deep-embedded morals and then. twists them #shows you those morals disfigured. completely indiscernable from what you're comfortable with. broken. maybe something deeper than just #and THAT is what pulls me in to those mature and almost grimdark kinds of media #because it forces you to grapple with those feelings. that digust. and I personally think through that counterphobic method #it makes you more secure in what you DO believe. what you want to strive for. how you want to grow. #i don't even know if this is coherent but I think overall dark media is just a different method of sharing moral and thematic lessons #one that relies on one's own personal instincts and reactions #and it's so cool! and horrible #and endlessly intriguing to pick apart #oh yeah wait maybe i should also tag #snowgrave #woops!

Can you go more into detail about the deltarune marching band au? I'd love to hear more about it! ❤

Yesyesyes! Here's just an odd assortment of bullets with things I'd think would  be fun:

Despite Berdly being a drum major his senior year with Kris, before he was an alto sax (incredible hubris)

Sans, almost out of a necessary chaos constant for the character, is the band director.

We do not know how he is the band director

He's not even paid for it, but with his...trombone experience, amongst other things, he's best for the job. He whips up the band's marching technique inexplicably well despite the students unanimously agreeing that they've, uh, never seen him really walk or demonstrate in rehearsal.

Someone asked this in the tags, but the white gloves are just part of the uniform and not just the drum major ones! To differentiate them the drum majors have silver lining in theirs. It helps to see when competitions are at night.

Noelle wonders sometimes how Berdly is able to play a reed instrument as a bird. I also wonder this

Kris always loves the layered songs in their programs, and always loves playing with my dearly beloved, IP3002 Raricks, against the better judgement of their own forearms.

Tuba Susie!!!!! She started out on trombone but switched some time before highschool.

One time Susie tried to carry three Jupiter tubas at once just to see if she could.

Noelle in school ensemble plays a silver Yamaha sax. She's apart of the jazz band :) She also uses a strength 4 Vandoren reed because ????? Her masochism runs deep, man. She is also a deer

It seems time and time again Noelle finds Kris playing songs she's never heard. They're very beautiful, if not yielding a certain kind of pain. They're always the last one to leave rehearsal. They always look alone.

Okay it's very important to my soul that Deltarune takes place in a podunk town in like, Fantasy Wisconsin. As a result the drive to other highschools is always a minimum of an hour (European trial of strength)

Oh! This isn't necessarily apart of marching band, but Azzy before he left was a hard and true choir kid. He’d always be caught waiting for Kris to finish up after rehearsal singing with another girl from town. Forgot who, though.
