I never in a million years would've thought that I'd have comfort characters that are literally just two bestfriends and their frenemy, three ghost guys, an adorable kid, and an awesome dad. Julie and the Phantoms is the very definition of comfort. It's love and loss all rolled into one and tied together with a beautiful bow of hope. That little memory filled garage feels like home.

Willie: Well if you can drive a car, then you can drive a tractor - everybody knows that!
Luke: So tell us, you went to the eastern front and met with the general. What was his name?

homie hopper — luke patterson x reader x bobby shaw
Tumblr media
pairing : luke patterson x fem!reader x bobby shaw
summary : for a few months you kept flirting with bobby, giving him the impression that his feelings for you were mutual, only to end up with luke, his bandmate. so he wrote in a song all the states he went through after you "betrayed" him.
warning : language
word count : 1,6 k
"luke, bobby wants to sing in the opening an original song that he wrote!" you could tell by the tone of alex's voice that he didn't think it was a good idea, but you couldn't help but ask yourself since when did bobby write songs for the band.
but luke still had his full attention on you, sitting side by side on the sofa in the garage where they used to rehearse, you sitting in a crossed legs position and him smiling non stop, with one of his knees positioned on the sofa next to yours.
"so?" he asked alex, not looking at him. "let him sing it, dude!"
alex sighed dramatically when he saw how impassive luke was, even though it was a so-called band problem and gave up, returning to reggie and bobby who were up, away from the two lovebirds.
"luke," you started, placing your palm on his chest to draw his attention to your words. "do you have any idea what bobby's song is about?"
he raised an eyebrow, not understanding why it was such a big deal that one of the guys, other than him, wrote a song. "no?" he answered you, in the form of a question, thinking that you, as well as alex, are exaggerating. you gave him a nasty look and he said "oh, c'mon, it can't be that bad!"
but in fact it was just that bad.
for the last few days you've been listening to the boys rehearsing just the instrumental of the song, bobby saying that he wanted the lyrics to remain a surprise until the last moment, and reggie and luke being quite gullible, agreed to not insist. just you and alex got a knot in your stomach thinking why he would have kept the lyrics a secret.
now you were in the crowd, first row, eagerly waiting for the lyrics as the instrumental you knew well had started.
bobby was in the middle of the stage. he approached the microphone, preparing to start singing.
take a bow
you've got everything fooled,
i got you figured out
now you're choking on your words,
you should spit it out
know that i gave you the world and you just gave me hell
and you gave me hell
as he was singing the last verse, you thought that maybe you worried for nothing. the lyrics were really good and put his voice to the advantage.
felt like a hundred punches
too many tough pills to stomach
i watched you making it public
lights, camera
fuck it
being on the vibe with the song, you started dancing, just like their fans did, feeling yourself.
you're a showstopper
a bad liar, homie hopper, drama starter
you stopped suddenly, even though the fans were still going along with the song, when you heard this part of the lyrics. if the phrase "homie hopper" wouldn't have opened your eyes, although it did, then the fact that bobby was now maintaining intense eye contact with you certainly would've done it.
you instantly turned your gaze to alex, ignoring bobby and not noticing the fact that luke was also looking at you. alex shrugged, continuing to play the drums, as if you weren't exactly witnessing a damn disstrack for you.
all my friends are fucked,
we all got you in common
your cheeks turned an intense shade of red and you wished you were as carefree as reggie was, nodding his head and continuing to enjoy himself, oblivious to the tension around him.
you're so fake and everyone should know about it
and all the things i hate about you
but luckily for you, bobby stopped singing faster than he should have. you realized this due to the fact that you attended the rehearsals several times and you had already learned the instrumental of the song. who would have thought that the song whose instrumental you learned would be a disstrack for you? certainly not you.
"so, guys," he motioned for the boys to stop playing so he could talk, and the fans squealed with excitement. "guys," he repeated, to silence the fans and the whole hall fell silent. "i stopped the song way too early because this was just some kind of a demo that i was really excited to share with you, being the first song I wrote all by myself." you couldn't believe his words, but the fans kept screaming to show him support. "now, if you excuse us, we're going to take a short break for a band chat." he said and motioned for luke to continue from here, not being used to being the center of attention. after all, luke used to act like he was the lead of the band.
he didn't know what to say because he didn't expect them to take a break, but he made it up on the spot. "we'll see you again in a few minutes! be ready to sing with us, guys! until then," he said and looked towards the stuff people that worked behind the scene. "play us some music, dj!"
when the music started playing started by the so called dj, the fans had two different reactions. some have started boohooing and some have started to squeal.
that was when you slipped through them to get backstage where the boys were. when you entered the room, bobby was sitting relaxed all over the sofa and in front of him, alex was looking first at him, then at luke, waiting for the situation to take extreme turns, reggie was disconnected from the situation, and luke had his arms crossed around his chest.
"what the hell was that?" luke asked, starting to feel himself getting angry, and bobby shrugged.
he pointed at you, and you froze at the door. "ask y/n."
"why would i ask her?" luke asked bobby, but his eyes were on you.
"isn't she your girlfriend?" bobby continued to avoid luke's questions to annoy him.
everyone's eyes, except bobby's, fell on you.
luke realized bobby was just playing on his nerves so he asked him straight "where are you going with this, bobby?" because he felt that this situation was beyond him. he didn't want to get angry and say something he would regret.
"the song is about me."
"how can the song be about you?" reggie asked, receiving a slap on the back of the head from alex. sign that he should keep his mouth shut. "ouch! that hurt!" he scolded alex in a whisper.
alex replied in the same tone, "that's what i wanted!" and reggie pouted.
"how can the song be about you?" luke asked the same question as reggie.
"are you for real? luke can ask that, but i can't?" reggie asked alex giving him an offended look and alex gave him a nasty look making him resign and say "ok, ok, i'll shut up."
you decided to ignore them, like you did the first time, and answer luke.
"before we were together, there were times when i flirted, more like a joke between friends, with bobby, but i swear i stopped! when i realized he genuinely liked me!"
"you let me think it was mutual!"
even though you knew the situation wasn't like bobby had said, you still felt guilty. you didn't want anyone to suffer because of you.
luke understood the situation and noticing how determined bobby was to get answers from you, he kept quiet and let you take the discussion from there. he would clarify the situation later, in private, because although he trusted you, he was also curious.
"bobby..." you started and looked at him, feeling really guilty. "if i knew that your feelings for me weren't going to be just a passing thing, i would have told you from the start that i like luke...so that i wouldn't end up hurting you. you better knew then so you could've get over it by now, than to have hopes and end up hating me."
"too late, y/n. it really hurt me that you disappeared suddenly, and after some time i had to see you at the arm of my band mate."
you sighed and ran your hand through your hair, "if i could turn back time, i would have explained it to you back then."
"yeah, well, you didn’t. so it will take me a while to forgive you." he gestured and then stood up from the sofa. "now let's go, we have a concert to finish!"
he walked out of the room, not looking at you or luke, and was closely followed by reggie and alex, alex putting his hand on your shoulder and smiling encouragingly before walking out the door.
"don't you have to go too?" you asked luke though you wished he didn't have to. you wished to be able to sit next to him and have him hug you, making sure you're not a bad person because of this misunderstanding.
as if he read your thoughts, he approached you and kissed you on the forehead, going to wrap his arms around your waist. "yes, but i'm in no hurry. they can't start singing without the main star." he answered you, adding a joke at the end, as he did every time he saw you sad or thoughtful.
you giggled, resting your head on his chest and listening to his heartbeat so you can calm down.
"he will understand at some point that you did not intend to hurt him."
"you think so?" you asked him and let yourself breathe in his perfume.
"i know so."
you smiled and felt like nothing bad can touch you anymore when you are in his arms.
you were truly happy that you've him by your side, even though you've got to be called "homie hopper" by his band mate due to an misunderstanding.

TICKLETOBER 2023
Prompt Day 15: Tickle Fight
Fandom: Julie and the Phantoms (I freaking love this show)
Platonic, just the boys being boys in 1995, pre-show.
Summary: It’s been a couple weeks since Luke left home. It’s hard.
This is a tickle fic - don’t like, don’t read. Beware some slight angst at the start.
Fic Length: Tangerine
The Only Choice
Luke stumbled into the garage, eyes red and damp from crying. The hoodie he had on was bespeckled with raindrops and streak marks from the bushes behind his parents house. He had watched them for a while today through their large 3-pane window. His mother kept glancing out as if she sensed him there. As if he were a ghost.
It had only been a couple of weeks.
At first they had tried reaching out to him. Reached out to Reggie, and to his parents - which ended with a black eye for Reggie, as he would not tell his parents where Luke was. Luke didn’t want to be found. Being found meant giving up on the band. And that was a choice Luke wouldn’t make. If leaving home was what would allow Sunset Curve’s dream to be a reality, then that was it. There wasn’t a choice.
But running away… still hurt.
And it hurt more, when they stopped chasing.
Watching his mom from the bushes… He knew how much it was hurting her.
But he wouldn’t turn back.
He couldn’t do that.
But fuck, if it didn’t rip him apart.
He pulled open the doors, expecting it to be empty, with how early in the morning it was. He had stopped going to school with the boys anyway, as the school would have to contact his parents. Better to just be fully missing. He wasn’t really missing much anyway.
To his surprise, Bobby, Reggie and Alex were all in the garage, Alex pacing around, with Bobby and Reggie sitting on the couch. They looked up as he came in.
“Luke, thank god,” Bobby said, crossing quickly over, and giving Luke a hug. He pulled away, searching the boy’s face. “Where the hell have you been? I woke up this morning and you were gone.”
“We had no way to reach you, man,” Alex said. “Bobby called our landlines, panicking.”
“I’m just glad I picked up, and not my parents.” Reggie said, staring off at some invisible fear across the room.
“Sorry, guys. I didn’t mean to worry anyone.”
Bobby took a better look at Luke, hand still on his shoulder. “Went to your parents' place?”
Luke looked up at him, timid red eyes meeting Bobby’s brown ones before flicking away.
“Luke…”
“I’m fine. It’s fine,” he said, pushing past Bobby and into the center of the room. “You guys should, uh, you should be at school.”
Reggie spoke up from the couch, finally turning to face Luke. “We were worried about you dude.”
“Come on, guys - Bobby, you almost never see me in the mornings, it’s not that uncommon -”
“We’ve been worried about you,” Alex said. “For days.” He stepped closer to Luke. “Talk to us. Please.”
Luke’s eyes flicked over each of them, and he wetted his lips, his eyes burning again. “I’m fine,” He forced with a watery smile. “I-I just” Tears slipped over the edges of his eyes. “I’m…”
Alex stepped forward, wrapping his arms around him.
Reggie and Bobby were next, joining the group hug as Luke cried.
“...It’s not like we ever got along super well…” Luke said wetly.
“But they're still your parents.” Alex said.
“And she’s still your mom,” Reggie whispered.
“It’s okay to be sad about it,” Bobby said. “None of us would judge you if -”
“No.” He was firm in his reply. “I want to be with you guys. I want to be in the band.” Luke's grip tightened on Alex’s hoodie. “I just wish there wasn’t a choice.”
“...Hopefully one day our folks can forgive the…choices… we make.” Alex said pointedly.
“I don’t think anyone can forgive Reggie’s choice to wear plaid 24/7, though.” Bobby chuckled.
“Excuse you, my plaid shirts are a staple.”
“Yeah, stapled to you.” Bobby tweaked Reggie’s hip where the shirt was tied, earning a yelp for his efforts. Reggie’s spasm knocked the group off balance, and they stumbled onto a heap on the couch with varying groans.
“Reggie, what the hell.”

“Hey, Bobby tickled me!”
“Not my fault you’re so sensitive,” Bobby said, wiggling his fingers across Reggie’s exposed side.
“Hehehehey! Bohohobbehehey stohohop!” Reggie squirmed trying to get away, elbowing Alex.
“Hey, watch the flailing!”
“Yohohohou’re juhuhust as bahahahahad!” Reggie countered, practically shrieking as Bobby spidered on his stomach.
“Reggie, shhh, you’re gonna wake my parents~” Bobby intoned teasingly, knowing full well his parents had already left for work.
Luke rolled his eyes at their antics, a smile working its way onto his face. Alex noticed, and smirked at him evilly.
The smile dropped from Luke’s face so fast. “A-alex, I know what you’re thinking -”
“Yeah?” Alex feigned a questioning look “And what, exactly, am I thinking there Luke?”
“Dohohon’t even - dohohn’t -”
“I haven’t even raised my hands yet, Luke.” At that, Alex followed through on his statement, raising his hands up and wiggling them at Luke, who blushed furiously, pushing himself back and into the couch in an effort to get away. But instead of being smart, and getting up to run, he shrunk down until his own hoodie had rode up.
“Trying to become one with the floorboards?” Alex teased, his fingers descending on the poor boy’s ribs. High pitched cackles started from the singer, and Alex tried and failed to resist his own grin.
“AhahahaHAHAHAlehehEheHEx!”
“LuhuUHUHUHke~” He mocked back, beginning to laugh along with him.
Suddenly he felt a pair of hands squeezing at his hips, and he barked out his own laugh which dissolved into giggles, as Bobby and Reggie ganged up on the pair, Luke still at their mercy in addition to Alex.
Reggie tased up and down Alex’s sides, as Bobby squeezed Luke’s thighs, saying some shit about the “7 seas” which only made Luke laugh harder. “Plehehehease! Bohohohob- AH NOHOHAHAHA!” Bobby had hit a sweet spot, it seemed, Luke’s laughter reaching a new height and tears pricking his eyes for another reason entirely.
Though Luke was lost in his laughter, in the far reaches of his mind he had to admit - this was nice. Nice to let go of all his worries and stress came with upending your life and running away. Nice to remember they were still kids. Kids who could unwind, and be dorks together. Nice, to have a tickle fight, as surprising as that was. It was nice to be here, with his other family.

Julie and The Phantoms Headcannon
After the boys died Bobby became friends with Rose. I'm going of the wide thing of Rose is most definitely Julie's mom for this. Rose was already dating Ray so Bobby also became friends with him. I'm also doing the assumption that the Molina's house was Bobby's old house and that's why all the boys stuff was still in the Garage. I wanna say that they became friends and after a while Bobby could no longer stand to stay in the house with the reminder of the guys in the Garage and so he moved out. Ray and Rose moved in and could never get themselves to throw out the boys old stuff.

Dh’èirich mi moch, b’ fheàrr nach do dh’èirich
Chapter 1: Prologue (809 words)
Tumblr media
The moodboard by the WONDERFUL @emeraldrain55
It’s a dark night, but a clear one, the type Bobby prefers. There’s no fog rolling inland from the loch he calls home, and the moon’s out - bright, even if it is just a sliver. There’s nowhere for anyone to hide.
There’s nowhere for him to hide.
“You know what happens now,” Luke says, even though he looks pained. This is probably going to be the roughest on him and Reggie. They’re not like Bobby and Alex, death isn’t a part of their everyday lives, and the consequences of it often evade them.
“I do.”

jatp h/c in relation to ballroom and latin dances because I said so
Luke: doesn’t have the patience for slow or repetitive ballroom but will Waltz if his partner wants to as long as it’s complex, he loves a good complex Quickstep, with lots of footwork
Reggie: has the fun bubbly personality that’s perfectly suited to social latin. his favourites would be cha cha and rumba which are simple in a way that lets you mess around and randomly spin your partner.
Alex: h/c he would enjoy jive for a similar reason he enjoys drums, in that the repetition of small intense movements would help settle anxiety, but ultimately Alex is built for ballroom, the waltz and tango specifically.
Julie: a queen of the ballroom. she wins “most elegant” at competitions and she can perfectly execute any style. her favourite is actually the waltz. because it’s what her mom and dad used to dance around the house when she was little
Bobby: A samba dancer. Only crazy people like the samba, probably a similar amount of crazy needed to deal with sunset curve when they were alive enough to be in danger when they did stupid things.
Flynn: She’d much rather dance hip hop. So she tends to lean towards the stationary latins, her favourites are actually the fast paced progressives. And she is correct.
Carrie: the showcase nature of latin drew her in and then the joy of spinning kept her there. she dances a wicked salsa or cha-cha. She also dances a stunningly elegant foxtrot.
Willie: A surprisingly beautiful foxtrotter, maybe it’s the smooth floating like motion that’s paralleled on a skateboard, or maybe it’s the way Foxtrot is perfectly designed for romantic jazz
Caleb: Latin. All of them. He’s a show off.
Nick: Not the confident dancer, but he’s consistent, he likes the latins if only because he can stay in one spot most of the time
Ray: He’s not a dancer. But he attended beginners classes before his wedding enough to not step on Rose’s feet during their first dance. He can dance a simple Waltz and that was always enough.
Carlos: Jive king. Enough said.
Rose: h/c a tall elegant romantic woman. she enjoys classic ballroom because it’s about connecting with your partner, whereas latin connects with an audience. She enjoys the swooping float of a waltz or foxtrot.

the origin story for this fic stems from me looking at bobby's actor and then at trevor's actor and going. ‘hold on one of those men isn't white. why are you telling me they're the same person.’ i do really want to finish this one, the concept is very dear to me <3 and as you could tell i decided that this was going to include bobby/reggie and some kind of combo of julie/luke and julie/flynn.
“no, no, no, no — you can't be here. you're dead!” the boy in front of julie is familiar to her, but only in that dull, faded way that old photographs are. the boys are behind her, with luke barely just reaching out and touching her shoulder. his hand on her shoulder is just the lightest brush, as though it was a feather.
“um, i hate to break it to you, pal,” alex says softly. “but you're dead too.” there’s an emptiness in his voice that julie hasn’t heard before.
“no! no, i can't be! i just got a date with rose — the cute bartender — i can't be dead!” the boy's voice is frantic, and reggie steps forward, standing so that julie is behind him, which she'd object to — she can take care of herself, thank you very much, and the boys haven't seemed to be able to touch her since the night after they played at the orpheum, and she doesn't imagine why bobby would be any different, so it isn't like he could hurt her — but the protests die in her throat when she sees the way reggie looks at him. he's crouched down, his elbows on his knees, so he's at eye level with bobby, and there's something tender in reggie's eyes.
“i'm really sorry, bobs,” reggie murmurs. “but looks like you didn't escape the curse of sunset curve after all.” that makes bobby crack a smile, just slightly, and reggie relaxes.
“sorry about your date with the bartender, bro,” luke says. it's the first thing he's said since bobby appeared after [SOMETHING HAPPENED]. his brows are furrowed in the same way they were when she visited his mother.
“you’re about twenty years too late,” alex finishes, and bobby stares up at him.
“but i - you... i was just with you at the hospital, and...”
“and i died,” alex says, nodding patiently. julie smiles at him, absentmindedly; alex really is such a sweetheart. “and then luke, and then reggie.”
bobby nods. “yeah...”
“and then what happened?” luke asks. his voice is low, and his brows are still furrowed deeply, but the expression painted across his face is inked with an emotion julie can’t quite recognize.
“and then... i... i didn’t know what to do. i’d lost my three best friends, and...”
“it’s okay if it’s fuzzy,” reggie says, his eyes still locked on bobby’s. “it was for us, too, for a while.” julie takes a breath — she didn't know that. she remembers her own freak out when the boys first arrived, and she can't imagine how they must've felt, unsure what exactly had happened, and how they died, and she'd been screaming at them, and she suddenly feels very, very bad about the whole thing.
bobby takes a shaking breath. “and i didn’t want to go home, because i knew my mom would want me to talk about it, and i didn’t want to talk about it. and i... i didn’t know what else to do, so i called him.”
“called who?” luke’s arms are crossed now, and the faintest hint of anger is bleeding through his neutral expression, and julie is suddenly, violently reminded of the day they’d found out that trevor wilson had stolen their songs. but if bobby's dead, who, exactly, is trevor? and how had he gotten their songs?
a sinking feeling brews in her stomach, and she suddenly realizes that the odds are that caleb covington was involved. alex’s face pales, too, and she knows they’re thinking the same thing.
“my half brother.” reggie’s eyes widen, and so do everyone else’s. the fact that bobby has a half brother is news to julie, but then again, almost everything about the boys that isn’t music-related is news to her. she could have looked it up — after all, sunset curve’s brief existence is fairly well documented because of their so called urban legend, but it feels like an invasion of privacy, so she doesn't. judging, however, from the looks on her boys’ faces, it seems this is news to them as well. “and he came and picked me up and took me home, and he gave me some hot chocolate, and...”
“and then you died,” alex supplies.
“i guess i did,” bobby murmurs, looking at his hands as though they’re something entirely foriegn to him.
“let me guess,” luke says. “your half brother’s name is trevor.”
bobby blinks, and looks up at luke. “how’d you know?”
“well, turns out your brother stole all your songs and made a fortune,” julie says.
“half-brother,” bobby mumbles, as though that's the most important part of the sentence, and it's then he seems to realize he doesn’t recognize the voice and looks up at her. “wait, who is she? why can she see me? us?”
“she is right here,” julie says, somewhat peeved. “and we haven’t figured that one out yet.”
she doesn't even have to see reggie’s face to know he's making that dumbass grin. “we’ll keep you up to date on that one, pal.”
[LINE]
“so you're telling me that fucker stole our songs?” bobby says. julie wants to do something for him, get him a hot chocolate or something like her aunt did after they found out about her mom. though she does know that maybe giving him a hot chocolate would be a bad idea, given that's probably what killed him, but she's pretty sure the boys can't eat anymore, so the point is moot. in lieu of anything else to do, she's nearly itching with nervous energy, which luke is so not helping.
she shoots him a glare, and he stops pacing with a mumbled, “sorry, jules.” the nickname makes her chest flutter in an odd way, but she ignores it.
“yes,” reggie says. he's seated on one of the couches, and he has a serious look on his face and bobby's hand in his. julie notices the way his thumb runs over bobby's knuckles. she doesn't say anything.
“you're telling me he killed me, and then he stole all our fucking songs?” bobby says, incredulity and outrage all intertwined up in his tone.
alex shrugs. “that's about the half of it,” he says, and bobby shoots him a look.
“why are you so calm about all of this?!” he says.
“they've had time to get used to it,” julie tells him. “you should've seen the freak out when they thought he'd just stolen their songs.”
“yeah, and after you steal our songs, murder is kind of a lesser thing,” alex says sarcastically, wobbling his hand back and forth, a slight smile painted on his face. “it's like, okay, which is worse, stealing our songs, or literally killing the surviving member of our band?”
“killing me! obviously!” bobby exclaims, but he’s smiling, and julie can tell this is part of a routine
“you're welcome to join our new band,” reggie says, before looking to luke, as if for permission. luke shrugs and looks at julie.
“obviously you can join,” julie says, and she means it.
[LINE]
“you told us trevor was bobby!” flynn half-shouts.
luke half-shrugs at her. “technically, we told julie that. you just got the information by proxy.”
julie folds her arms across her chest. “we don't keep secrets from each other,” she says seriously. flynn leans in, putting her head on julie's shoulder, and julie catches a whiff of her perfume, which is sharp and citrusy.
“aw, babe,” flynn murmurs. julie tries not to breathe, suddenly hyper aware of her own movements and terrified that if she does move, flynn will stop leaning on her.
luke half-rolls his eyes. “anyway, we thought it was bobby. sure, he looked a little different, but... i don't know, i just figured it was part of getting older. i mean, my parents look different than they did when i died. it's been twenty years.”
“they thought it was bobby,” julie says. “i mean, who else would it have been?”
