Felt that! As a chronically ill person this is highly relatable. And I also have a dark sense of humor as a spooky 👻 bish 🤪 so bring it on I'm officially haunted lol 😆

Yes my body is a temple, and I am the deity it is dedicated to. I decide what is sacred or profane here. So unless you have come to worship get the fuck out of here.

How to love your body?

Before answering that question, let me tell you one thing. You can't love something that you haven't actually seen; actually noticed.
How often have you seen your naked body? How many times have you actually paid attention to your body when you bath in lukewarm water while your mind plays scenarios which may or maynot happen?
From childhood itself we were told to hide our body parts as if it is a shame to have a body at all. Girls were taught to keep their legs together, to not wear deep necks, to not wear anything that might show their curves more than it should. Boys were traumatized for not having fit bodies, for their clumsy limps and protruding bones over their back and rib cages because Men are supposed to be Big and intimidating. And so began the journey of ignoring the biggest house that we live in, we express through and depend mostly on.
And so the very first step to love your body is to do that very thing.
LOOK AT IT.
See it.
Touch it.
See how it responds to your touch.
See how it responds to practically everything.
Run your hands over your body and know if they are rough or soft. Know how many areas of your body needs attention.
See what color your eyes are in the mirror. Look at your eyelashes and eyebrows, the hair on your face and body. Take a look at your chest and your stomach.
Sleep naked. Atleast once a week. You might feel exposed, vulnerable, if you haven't done it before. But do it anyway. You will be amazed how easy it is to live with your body once you become comfortable with your naked body. You will realise there is actually nothing to be ashamed of. Because your body is an integral part of your life whether you accept it or not, now. You can't live without your body. Honor it. Love it.
Donot cause it any harm. Donot let others harm your body either. You are the God, Your Body is your temple.
Eat your favorite food. Drink lots of water.
Comb your hair and drink a glass of water before sleeping.
Say affirmations out aloud if it resonates, meditate.
Educate yourself about the wonders of your body. Learn about hormones and other vital parts of our body. Educate yourself about the parts of your body that you are most insecure about. Trust me, it helps a lot. (I begun to stop hating my skin color when I was just 15 years old, when my biology teacher taught us about melanin.)
Wear your favorite dress. It doesnot matter whether you wore it last week. It doesn't matter as long as you are comfortable with what you wear.
It's so simple, to love your body. And did you see the irony? Your body is asking you same thing you ask from others. Attention, love and care. Provide it. And see the miraculous ways it provides you back.

The body is a temple (50x70cm)
This took me soooo many hours, it’s a mixed media painting the body parts are painted with gouache and the background is a digital collage printed and reassembled (because printing big is expensive and this was an assignment I didn’t have the time), the pictures used (edited in collage or as a reference) are all mine.
Tumblr media
Also if u share this I’d really appreciate it ☆彡

People have always taken liberties with my body. I learned early in life that one of the most valuable tools you have is to make men, a hobby, and I got good at getting what I wanted.
Men would ogle, ask, schmooze, plead, and for the longest time I didn't possess the correct terms for BACK THE FUCK UP and would often conceded for Attention from someone who would moan praises as they fucked me but would never give a second thought to my intellectual capability.
Conceding to their needs disregarding the pieces of me that were being chipped away as I gave and gave my last apple from my giving tree.
I'd rather suffer from all of that again and again than open up my brain and share my organized chaos sonnets with someone who will look at them with confusion and distain.
My words cannot be stolen from me, they cannot beat my stories out of me. That cannot inprison the dam of collective works my mind has cultivated freely. My words are my temple, as my body was never allowed to be.

Quote
Every man is the builder of a temple, called his body, to the god he worships, after a style purely his own, nor can he get off by hammering marble instead. We are all sculptors and painters, and our material is our own flesh and blood and bones. Any nobleness begins at once to refine a man’s features, any meanness or sensuality to imbrute them.
from Walden by Henry David Thoreau

Hey Friends! Another reminder for you - you have everything that you need within you. You are your Altar and your Sacred Space all rolled up into that beautiful body of yours. You carry The Universe inside your body - all 5 elements, all of nature itself. I know sometimes it's hard to remember, especially when the physical world seems to weigh us down, but all you need to do is look within whenever you need answers. I promise they're there.

my body is not a temple, it’s a hubris of worn out things collecting dust in a forgotten crook. It hasn’t felt mine since last winter, or the summer i blew out the candles of my 17th birthday or when you opened your mouth and out came secrets that should have remained so or when your love was divided into threes and i got the smallest piece out of all.
my body is not a temple, the gods left long ago. memories lies like the names on the graves. Here lies that untouched one, when your teeth showed in photos and the idea of self wasn’t formed.
my body is not a temple, it’s a crumbling abode. It never learned to preserve, it only knows how to rot, forgotten and lost.

2024 JANUARY 14 Sunday
"Whoever is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him. Avoid immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the immoral person sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been purchased at a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body."
~ 1 Corinthians 6:17-20
