they should invent a wheelchair that u can keep in ur pocket and whip out in less than 2 seconds whenever u need it & it also takes less than 2 seconds to put it away again

what if the bodies you want and the multitudes of lives you want were all possible. what if you could inhabit, for the high school years that you desired desirability, a body that would get you that. what if the time you spend growing up towards the way you actually want to be you could be hopping in and out of shapes and heights and weights like different pairs of jeans. this is a post about alienation from the body when body ideals are fashion trends and also about transness.

What even is Tumblr?

If you had asked me ten years ago, what social media platform i would be eager to join, it would have been Tumblr. To me it had to coolest post, best photos and some fo the funniest things to look at.

But now it would be at the very bottom of my list of social media's that are a "must join"

Founded in 2007 Tumblr by David Karp, its main purpose was to be a social media platform to share "microblogs". It was there for those who wanted to share interests and personal work on the Internet, in hopes of reaching others who share common ground.

Now onto the Weekly reading titled "Love the Skin You‘re In”: An Analysis of Women’s Self-Presentation and User Reactions to Selfies Using the Tumblr Hashtag #bodypositive, Anne Reif, Insa Miller & Monika Taddicken (2022)."

The piece of writing highlights how the use of hashtags have helped women who do not fit the "young white and slim women" ideal which has been promoted by the masses of western media, to feel comfortable in their own skin, and too recognise that no two people will look the same. The hashtag #bodypostivity was used for women to upload selfies and help them "reconnect with their own body image" (A. Reif pg. 2)

Whilst the movement helped women become comfortable in their own skin, it was also presented as "Harmful" as "Individuals participating by sharing images of their body also engage in postfeminist culture by seeking verification and value through their appearance." (Camacho-Miñano & Gray, 2021; Sastre, 2014).

Whilst i believe hashtags have the use to be powerful, and help spread positive messages across to any social media users, i also believe it has its negative implications. Anyone can access these hashtags and any one can state their opinion. I believe the #Bodypositivity has had a great success and has helped every woman feel comfortable, there has been the negatives that come along with anything on the internet.
