Before you comment on someone's weight, STOP! and ask yourself, "Am I commenting on their weight out of a genuine concern for their well-being, or am I commenting on their weight because their body is too fat/too thin/falls outside what I think of as a 'healthy' body?"
And then still don't fucking say anything because it's none of your goddamn business what their weight is!!!!!

Are Super Junior THAT problematic?
—————————————————
~Prelude~
Super Junior, a group considered one of the most problematic in the K-pop community. Today I will NOT defend Super Junior, but I will explain a few issues substantively. Enjoy.
————————————————————————
Shindong (신동희):
Allegations:
『1. Sexist, bodyshaming comments
『2. Performed with boom who did blackface
『3. Did blackface
Explains:
『1. Shindong: “If someone had to lose weight, I would tell that person to lose weight. Lose some weight, why can't you take care of yourself. When I say this, the person might think, 'Look who's talking,' but I would reply, 'I'm a boy and you're a girl.'”
Shindong (A moment later): “I'm just saying. Honestly, I would want the person that I love to be more pretty or more handsome.”
Shindong (After the situation):
Tumblr media
Shindong (About weight many times):
Tumblr media
『2. What can I say? Do you really think that Shindong decides who he performs with?
『3. He did blackface. I would like to point out that blackface was quite widespread in Korea. Before the popularization and development of the Internet, Korean comedians often used it in their skits. When something becomes common, we stop perceiving it negatively and we get used to it.
When we look at the fact that Shindong may have been familiar with this, we get an image of unawareness. Which doesn't change the fact that as a popular artist he should be more careful about his actions.
————————————————————————
Siwon (최시원):
Allegations:
『1. Being homophobic
『2. Said “No” and waved hand to a male fan when he said “Sarangae”
『3. Retweeted a transphobic tweet
『4. Dog accident
Explains:
『1. It's just a fake info my friends
Tumblr media
『2. I have searched the Internet far and wide, but there is no information about this anywhere
『3. Siwon (About situation):
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tw: Opinion
It was just a meme... everyone has different sensitivities, but as I belong to the LGBTQ community, I can laugh at this type of memes.
Siwon said, “You are my friend, FIGHTING!” to a renowned Mexican transgender actress, Dana Karvelas.
Tumblr media
『4. The dog, untied, was out on a walk with Choi's father when it attacked Kim, a neighbor.
Siwon (About situation): “I lower my head and apologize to the bereaved family...and convey my deep condolences, as a member of the family raising the dog, I feel greatly responsible”
Should Siwon be responsible for the dog his father was walking with?
————————————————————————
Heechul (김희철):
Allegations:
『1. Wore cornrows
『2. Wore headscraft
『3. Called EXO (ex) member Kris disrespectful for leaving before their concert
Explains:
『1. Cornrows were a way for slaves to secretly communicate with each other. This is a difficult situation, but let me use an anecdote.
When I visited Kenya, many Kenyans even persistently encouraged me to make Cornrows for me, of course, these were specific individuals for whom every money was worth its weight in gold, so what do I mean by that?
The universality of Cornrows reduced their tragic history to a marginal level.
Therefore, awareness about them is becoming less and less and will only decrease; in the era of globalization, cultures will become less and less common and this is an inevitable process. Just remember to respect all cultures.
『2. Heechul (As he wrapped the scarf around his head): “What I’m wearing looks like a hijab right?when we go overseas many foreign fans came wearing things like this..”
Was what he did or said caricatured or mocking? No, many fans even took it in a positive way. Heechul himself has never insulted or criticized other religions.
『3. Heechul (About Kris Wu action): “I want to approach this as an ill-mannered act by Kris to the fans”
Heechul didn't insult Kris, he criticized his behavior, not him personally. Was he right? Yes, many fans could have gone to the concert to see Kris Wu, but he unexpectedly left the group.
————————————————————————
Leeteuk (박정수):
Allegations:
『1. Said he dislikes fat girls
『2. Asked Suzy to lose weight
Explains:
『1. There is no information about this, also no evidence
『2. Leeteuk (Before "Miss A" debut): “Suzy has to lose some weight.”
Heechul (To quote Leeteuk's words in the dorm): “She doesn't look like she gained weight at all” “Why are you losing weight, Suzy, you don't have to”
————————————————————————
Eunhyuk (이혁재):
Allegations:
『1. Sneaked into girls room where they were sleeping and touched them.
Explains:
『1. Such an accident took place. Eunhyuk himself told about it, he was in junior high school at the time (12-14 years old). We don't know anything about how he touched them, and in any case, judging him for something he did as a child is not wise.
————————————————————————
Donghae (이동해):
Allegations:
『1. Did brownface
Explains:
『1. He just looks that way, it's his skin tone lol
Tumblr media
————————————————————————
Yesung (김강훈):
Allegations:
『1. Did blackface
『2. Called obese people lazy
Explains:
『1. It wasn't blackface. He did not ridicule black people or reproduce any other stereotypical features. Cosplayed Nick Fury from Marvel.
Tumblr media
『2. He just kidding. If you can understand korean culture, your heart not hurt because it’s just kidding. However, it was still irresponsible for the sake of foreign fans.
————————————————————————
Kyuhyun (조규현):
Allegations:
『1. Negative comments about Goo Hara
Explains:
『1. Kyunhyun (Radio Star): “If i open my mouth, Goo Hara will be over” “I've prepared about 12 pages of material”
Kyuhyun was part of the variety show "Radio Star", and after rejecting further offers of cooperation, he admitted that he cried at night from stress because he was expected to be mean to the guests invited to the program. His behavior towards Har was, of course, cruel, but it was not due to his own decisions and willingness.
————————————————————————
Ryeowook (김려욱):
Allegations:
『1. There is no information about this, also no evidence
————————————————————————
~Notes~
• The performance with Boom also involved several other Suju members, but I decided not to cover the same issue multiple times
• I only considered current Suju members

Thin shaming is like white people thinking they can experience racism. Like, you can experience prejudice, but you are not experiencing systemic issues in any way, shape, or form that you do when you're fat. Obviously, both are bad, and you shouldn't shame anyone, but one is so clearly worse. Also, when did OP say that either were okay? Please use reading comprehension...
anon you seem to have confused the definition of racism with the definition of institutional racism, I don't think I'm the one with reading comprehension issues. You literally even just said they can experience prejudice.
Here are the definitions of racism and institutional racism:
rac·ism
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.
Institutional racism
the perpetuation of discrimination on the basis of “race” by political, economic, or legal institutions and systems.
I'm sure this is the point where you'll have a little angry fit about how 'definitions change' despite the fact these things are literally two different definitions entirely, because tumblr hates facts. (The Irish would like a word with you, about your belief that white people have never been institutionally discriminated against btw)
Assuming you haven't stormed off at this point, I'll humour you against my better judgement. Let me start with a question:
would you like to point out where I said OP said it was okay?
Literally all I said is that it's gross to make this shit a competition and minimize other peoples experiences (much like people in the notes are doing to mine because clearly they know more about my own experiences than I do!) based on your own, anecdotal ones and that the attitude of, and I quote directly from the op of the post: "I think skinny people who have never been fat should shut up about who gets body shamed more permanently" is gross as hell.
bet you if it said 'Fat people who have never been skinny' instead ya'll'd be throwing a goddamn fit over it bc it's a shitty sentiment to have - but because it's directed towards thin people, it's somehow okay. It's hypocritical as hell, and I repeat: it is not a fucking competition.
It's not 'worse' or 'better' on one side and the modern day pain olympics people try to compete in are tiring and abhorrent. Stop belittling other people to feel better about yourself. Telling thin people they don't have it as bad as you makes you just as shitty as the people bodyshaming them to begin with. How does telling people their feelings don't matter help anyone?
Stop making it a competition. Bodyshaming is shitty. Period. End of. You cannot measure suffering and it is so fucking petty and childish that people can't just say 'hey, it sucks that you get shamed for something about your body you may not be able to control - I understand how it feels, don't let it get you down.'
It costs literally zero dollars to just be kind to people no matter what size, shape, colour, or whatever. It's literally free. Literally all I have said is that people should just stop trying to one up each other like some sort of sick pain olympics and maybe be a little more compassionate to people who might understand their own hurt in a way that really is not that different.

(Not trolling or bodyshaming, I'm genuinely curious) So every time I see pics of fans with the SPN cast it strikes me that so many fans seem to struggle with moderate to serious weight issues. I'm wondering, it this related to SPN specifically, to fandoms in general or to American fans? Is there an explanation for it? What is the average profile of an SPN fan?
In my anecdotal experiences with cons both for work and as a fan, most con goers are young, slim people and because of their limited resources due to their youth, only go to cons once or limited times.  This applies to most cons, not just SPNs.  J2 usually ask the Sunday crowd who are the first timers and at least half raise their hands.  While I haven’t seen every fan photo op posted, the ones I’ve seen are the freqent mileage fans who are older and therefore have more resources, hence the frequency of their con attendance resulting in the frequency of their photo posting.  They’re also at the age when hormones wreck havoc on your weight even though your diet and activity level is the same as in your 20s.  It sucks, I have to decrease my calories intake and do intermittent fasting to keep my weight in check.  I have a friend who eats whatever he wants for 4 days and fast for 3 days to maintain his weight and so far it works.  I refuse to do keto diet but others swear by it.  Losing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise.   You can’t exercise your way out of a bad (calorie surplus) diet.  Keep a food journal!

Jessica Simpson Hits Back At ‘Nauseating’ Vogue Article For Bodyshaming Her Appearance At 2007 Met Gala
US Vogue has likely ruffled a few feathers among the celebrity set after they released an anecdotal piece about the biggest moments in the history of the Met Gala. One celeb in particular who has since slammed the article is Jessica Simpson.
The singer was mentioned unfavourably in the piece titled ‘Only at the Met: An Oral History of the World’s Most Glamorous Gala’, which contained excerpts…
