I saw a post recently which was criticizing My Hero Academia. I have an issue with it, but it does make valid points so I’m going to make this a seperate post instead of a reblog.
The post describe’s Bakugo’s fight with Ochaco in the School festival arc as “Bakugo tries to murder his opponent in front of the entire school and faces no consequences for it.”
Now from the context of the post, it sounds like the inital poster is going off memory, so I can forgive some details from being lost. But I do want to make something clear
“Bakugo tries to murder his opponent in front of the entire school and faces no consequences for it.” is not true in any sense.
What Bakugo actually does is not hold back against Uraraka in a fight. And the audience boos him for that because they think he should go easy on Uraraka because she is a girl. And then Aizawa calls the audience out for being sexist, and states plainly that the reason Bakugo wasn’t holding back is because he knows Uraraka is capable enough that if he doesn’t, she’ll beat him.
There is no serious danger of a murder taking place in that fight. I can understand how someone might misremember that moment, because realistically Bakugo’s powers would have a risk of killing Ochaco. But A: The exact same applies with regards to Ochaco’s powers and B: This is a shonen anime, not real life. People are tougher than they are IRL, and if the Narrative context does not indicate that an action is potentially lethal, then it isn’t.
Bakugo faces no consequences because within the narrative context, he did not do anything in the fight to warrant consequences. He was not unnecesarily harsh, he was fighting all out because he respected his opponent.
Oooooh wouldn’t it be awesome if in the movie flashbacks we saw a young/kid Stain in the crowds watching a young All Might?!!
I know the chances are pretty low, but seriously wouldn’t that be a great detail? The moment mentioned briefly in canon where a young Stain became inspired by All Might’s heroic debut put to screen!!
