bombalurina + macavity

for the Opera Populaire production, I do hc that Bombalurina and Macavity were in a relationship prior to the events of the show. They had a dynamic similar to 2019 Bombalurina and Macavity, but Bombalurina made the decision to leave after having her kitten, Electra.

my second contribution to @storyweaverofgondor's event, this was fun for me bc bombacavity isn't a pairing i usually think about, but from the beginning when i discovered Opera Populaire, i KNEW these two had some bitter history between them

While several cats quietly noticed the growing connection between Munk and Deme simultaneously in the early months, it was Bombaruina who first breached the subject. She encouraged Deme to chase those feelings, assured her she was allowed to have them, and that she could not have picked a better tom to fall for. After her first great love being with Macavity though, Demeter was certain anything forthcoming could only end in similar disaster. She was adamant on squashing those rising feelings for a short time, but ultimately failed(which of course, turned out to be a blessing!).

Bomba's encouragement was one of, if not the final outside push which led Deme to accepting the fact that Munk made her happy, and feel wonderful every day, and that she wanted every opportunity to make him happy too.

Safe to say when the two got together, Bombalurina was very much in favor of it. She herself had contended with love struggles in the past, with Macavity too no less, so she knew the importance of finding something, or someone, good and loving, to hold on to, and she was glad Deme had the courage to take that leap and to reap the rewards with someone sweet and kind. Demeter, rightfully, will never let go of Munkustrap now, just as Bomba will never let go of her dear Tugger.

Before Macavity was ousted from the tribe and he went Full Crazy and his laugh became well... what we hear in the show, his laugh was once merely a low chuckle.

There was always an underlying darkness in it, though. It scared a lot of the other cats, but Bombalurina couldn't help but find it alluring, drawing her in when it drove other cats away.

After he was ousted, even with all the rumors about what he and his gang have been up to, Bombalurina still couldn't help but miss hearing that laugh.

i was just complaining about Jemima's design yesterday BUT! bombacavity baby Jemima trutherism:

Jemima has the same rough patterns as Bomba: black body, white chest, red detailing with some white spots. Black fuzzies on the elbows. One black hand. And Macavity ALSO has a white chest with black and red detailing, but Jemima has his spikier looking fur rather than Bomba's almost kind of curly/fluffy look. Plus Jemima has that big white spot on her upper thigh/hip and Macavity has those white bands in the same spots. Jemima & Macavity also both have two black ears.

I believe Victoria should have the creative freedom to explore various pas de deux partners. This would not only add diversity to her interactions but also allow for fresh dynamics and storytelling possibilities.

I can't get behind the Jemima as Demeter's daughter hc for the life of me. There's just too much of a lack of interactions between them for me to be fully sold.

Do I play around with it? yes. Do I believe it? no

It's weird though cause I can't definitely see her being Mac's daughter- either she's a bombacavity kitten or mac smurfetted her or something.

How did Bomba and Mac's relationship differ from Demeter and Macs?

It was very different. First he grew up with Bomba, so he knew her for a long time of course, and she him. She had known those young, "stupid" sides of him he was able to hide from Demeter, having met her later in life. No matter how much he tried to rebrand himself, Bombalurina would always be aware of his former self and former failures, and that perception irritated him, even if he did like her a lot, which he did, at least more than anyone else back home.

Bomba came to him, he didn't chase after her; she was unhappy with the tribe, struggling to find her lot in life and dealing with a lot of internal turmoil and she figured Macavity would understand her, which he did. He offered a new, exciting side of life to her, and an outlet for her frustrations, and warm (enough) arms to hold her. And she offered a piece of home that he thought he could or wanted to hold on to, and a chance to share his slow growing empire with someone. But it wasn't a harmonious companionship; Bomba and Mac are both very headstrong, and while Demeter is a master at self restraint and choosing her battles, Bomba is someone who refuses to give up, and Mac doesn't give up either, so there were many arguments between them.

Even in romance between them there was always a sense of competition, an angry edge to whatever they said and did that was thrilling and intense but ultimately unsustainable and quickly drove them to insanity. Bombalurina made Macavity angry enough to raise a paw to her, and Bomba, naturally, was not afraid to defend herself. They came to blows more than once in their short courtship before Bombalurina had enough, cursed him and his entire "little gang" (it was quite little back then) and decided to leave and return to the tribe.

Macavity was incredibly angry at her, is still bitter about it til this day and thinks her a fool, but he did not chase after her. Nor did he attempt to punish her; in the early days he was still much more capable of letting things go, or at least dismissing them with a vehement "Good riddance." He loved her, but could carry on without her, in a way he's incapable of when it comes to Demeter.

A headcanon I have for my weirdly genuine evil couple 2019 Bombacavity is that Bombalurina doesn't naturally have magic, Macavity permanently transferred some of his magic to her (meaning he permanently has less magical reserves to draw on so it's a big deal.)
