Creating Kagome Part 2: The Props
More behind the scenes footage of my one of a kind Kagome Higurashi doll! LONG POST AHEAD!
No doll is complete without props. The 12″ Inuyasha figure that I made this doll to go with came with his Tetsusaiga sword, both transformed and not transformed, so of course Kagome needed goodies too! Keep reading to find out where everything came from and how it was made!
Obviously the first thing Kagome needed was her bow and arrow. Thanks to a YouTube tutorial by MyFroggyStuff, I was able to make the bow relatively easy. Then I just had to paint it, and then I wrapped it with bias tape (cut in half to make it thinner) and added some black thread to be the string.
I needed arrows as well, but I also needed a place to keep those arrows. So a quiver was necessary. I looked around for some possibilities before settling on the one that came with the Catching Fire Katniss doll. It had the closest shape I’d need, and because it was Mattel, I knew it was designed to fit a Barbie. It would need to be painted and have some twine added to it for those extra details, but I knew I could pull that off. And thankfully, I was able to find the quiver by itself on eBay, so I didn’t even have to buy it with a doll I didn’t need.
What I didn’t know was that the arrows in that quiver were NOT designed to come out. The first doll had removable arrows in her quiver, but this one, for some reason, did not. So I had to use a mixture of pliers, scissors, and a ton of muscle to cut and yank those things out of there. And I mean I had to get the base at the bottom of the quiver, or else the arrows I desired wouldn’t go in properly and would stick out too far and look ridiculous. I wish I’d saved the picture I took of when I was done doing all that digging, because there were literally pieces of curled wire-type plastic all over the counter. But finally, the quiver was empty and ready to be customized and filled with arrows!
The arrows were, of course, also tricky. They have a unique shape in the anime, kind of like a triangular diamond, and there are only two feathers at the opposite end. Most 1/6 scale archery accessories have arrows with three feathers on the end. But I did manage to find a set that had two! Yay for eBay! :D So I ordered those, and they arrived quickly, but they were unfortunately too long to fit inside the quiver.
Tumblr media
So I did some measuring, then used side cutters to cut the arrows down to the desired length. Of course, that meant I had no arrow tip left. Not a huge issue since most of the arrows are going to stay in the quiver anyway, and the only time the doll will actually hold/use the arrows is for pictures. But in that case, I did still need tips. So I took some Crayola Model Magic (all I had on hand) and stuck the blunt ends of the arrows into it, then began attempting to shape the arrowheads as close as I could to resemble the source material. Not perfect, but they’ll work! I even painted one a shade of magenta to give the illusion of Kagome firing a sacred arrow. :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was going to stop there with the props. Like I said, Inuyasha had his sword and that was all he needed. Well, this is me we’re talking about. Me, who has an avid love of Barbie and a ton of random goodies lying around and the capability of obtaining more goodies. I had a Barbie bike in storage, and it was already pink (but light pink, so that had to change), so I thought, hey, why don’t I add her bike to the collection? Yeah, I’m such a perfectionist, I scrutinized her bike in every episode I saw it in, plus the movies, to find the right shade of pink. Of course, one major issue was that I didn’t have a rack on the back of the bike. And that’s a pretty big thing considering we see Inuyasha riding on that rack a number of times, in the show and in the “Every Heart “ending. It’s iconic! At first I thought I’d have to get an entirely different bike for that rack, but I couldn’t find one that satisfied me. The rack either had a heart design in it (cute, but not what I want here), the bike wasn’t meant for a Barbie-size doll, or the bike bars in between the seat and handlebars had the wrong shape (i.e., a bar directly underneath the seat).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I finally determined that the best option was to use the bike I already had and attempt to make the rack. I started by unbending and gluing paperclips together, but that quickly proved to be a disaster. So I looked on eBay one last time, and there it was. An off-brand bike made for a fashion doll that had not only a bike rack - but one that was attached via little arms! The bike itself wasn’t the right shape or design, but that rack? I needed it! I ordered it promptly, and when it arrived, I confirmed what I suspected - the rack easily detached from the bike it came with, and fastened itself nicely onto the magenta one I’d already customized! I had to paint the rack silver, and then I painted the little grippers magenta to camouflage them into the bike, and voila! Kagome’s bike WITH the bike rack! How fortunate that the one I’d had in storage even had a basket with it already!
Of course, the bike I had was designed for a Barbie to actually ride, so it had these huge, ridiculous pedals attached to it. Those had to go. I took some side cutters and cut the pedals off, then took some sticky-sided craft foam, stuck two together around a toothpick, and super glued that into the hole left from where the original pedals were. They don’t spin around like real pedals do, but it’s purely cosmetic, so it’s okay!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Did I stop at the props there? No, I did not. Another iconic prop from the show is Kagome’s backpack. It’s just an ordinary backpack but it’s never the same size! The thing seems to magically expand to accommodate whatever she may be carrying, be it books, medicine, food, extra clothes, or other supplies. Of course, none of the Barbie backpacks I had were the right shape/design, so even though I’d planned to paint a plastic one yellow, it wouldn’t do any good if it didn’t look right. So I checked Etsy for Barbie backpacks, knowing there were talented seamstresses out there who could make such things. I asked one shop, and they said they didn’t take requests but to contact MiniMichCrafts. I did just that, and met a wonderful, talented person who promptly made BOTH backpacks - yes, a regular size backpack, and an expanded one! Perfection!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Modern props are shown above, including ninja food, a portable hot plate, first aid kit, and school books)
Now we need something to put in that backpack! I knew right away that I wanted to make some of Kagome’s school books. Literally every time I saw one in an episode, I’d pause the show and take a picture of it with my phone, then I replicated it in Photoshop. Again, I’m a perfectionist! :D Plus, thanks to my good friend FabHat, who is fluent in Japanese, I was able to figure out what each individual Japanese character was on those books! Yep, I’m nothing if not authentic! :D But honestly, the books were probably the easiest props to make.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both backpacks hold various items from food to books to hygiene products, and the tiny bottle of sacred jewel shards fits nicely in the front pocket!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously Kagome needed something quite important to the entire plot - the sacred jewel shards! I had some little bottles found in the miniature section at Michaels, and I used one of those and filled it with actual smashed pieces of rose quartz to resemble the shards. Of course, the bottle was as big as the school books, and that wasn’t sitting well with me. So I started thinking of what I could do to get an even smaller bottle, one more to scale to a Barbie hand.
Then I stumbled upon my ReMent first-aid kit set. I was already going to add the first-aid kit and its goodies to the props list, albeit the box needed to be painted an off-white to match what was in the show. Thanks to some masking tape, I was able to do that and paint around the green cross! Inside that box was a tiny pill bottle that I knew would be perfect for the jewel shards. Of course, the cap wasn’t meant to be removed, so I had to use side cutters to pop open the bottle, which was filled with a rubbery substance meant to resemble tiny little pills. Getting those out of that bottle was a real chore - I had to carefully use an X-Acto knife to stab at them and slice them in order to pull little pieces out one by one, all while trying not to scratch the sides of the bottle. Scratches still ensued, but hopefully not too bad. I tried the toothpaste trick method to try to remove them, but I’m not entirely sure it helped. But that’s okay, I’m still happy with this little bottle of shards! I took the cork off one of the miniature bottles, trimmed it a bit with the X-Acto knife, and BOOM! The world’s smallest bottle of sacred jewel shards!

Before and after of the ReMent bottle:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, and that tiny bottle fits right inside the backpack’s front pocket!
Tumblr media
Back to that first aid kit, it’s the perfect size, but it wasn’t the right design. The kit in the anime is kind of an off-white color with a green cross and brown handle. Break out the acrylic paint for more customization! Here is before and after, plus goodies inside (I see gauze and pain killers for sure LOL):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, if Kagome is bringing her backpack and all this modern stuff with her, how can she not bring the ninja food for Inuyasha? Behold the instant noodles and dry potatoes!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yep, those are also ReMent! Authentic Japanese miniatures in the perfect size!
While not seen too often in the show, I did go ahead and test my hand at making Barbie-size jewelry - in this case, the sacred jewel necklace! There’s the one seen in the anime (which looks similar to the one you could buy from Hot Topic), and the one you can buy in real life that creator Rumiko Takahashi helped design. I made both versions... twice, because one has a clasp so it can be worn by dolls, whereas one has no clasp because said clasp is unsightly LOL. And of course, I made the special necklace Kagome wore when she had a huge chunk of the jewel on a chain - the one that eventually got stolen by Kikyo. That one was the hardest of them all to make!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is that the end of the props? Nope! In fact, all those props came AFTER the big ones. Yep, these aren’t even the big ones!
How could I have possibly made a Kagome doll, with the intention of putting her in a diorama with my 12″ Inuyasha figure, without this very important item?:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, I made a well! The iconic time-traveling device that allows our two primary characters to travel between worlds. :D Now, how to build a well? The first step was getting the right dimensions. The well had to be big enough to allow both Inuyasha and Kagome to fit inside, since they’re frequently seen using it together. It would also need to be tall enough to allow Kagome to sit on it while still allowing her feet to touch the ground. So after some practice measurements, it was time to get to work! My original idea was to have my husband use his Glow Forge and scorch plank lines into the sides. But he had a better idea - get some .5″ thick wooden dowels, cut them down to size, them glue them all together and stain them. He did use the Glow Forge to create the top portion, though. Special thanks to my dad for putting all those planks together and staining the well!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The well also needed vines, but thanks to Michaels, I was able to find the perfect little ones! I used hot glue to secure them in place. For the inside of the well, I paused like 10 episodes of the show, whenever I saw a straight-down well shot, took pictures with my phone, and then resized the interior of the well in Photoshop and printed it out. I then wrapped it around a piece of cardboard measured to fit inside the well, and voila!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of those vines, they served a second purpose - they were great for wrapping around the sacred tree! Yeah, I totally built a sacred tree for one-sixth scale figures. I regret nothing!
Source photo:
Tumblr media
The tree started out as a curled up tri-fold display board, but after constructing the bark and details, I decided it needed to be taller. So I added about half of a second tri-fold and curled it into the shape of a tree trunk, then hot glued it to the top. I then used Mod Podge to glue tissue paper all over the structure to give the illusion of tree bark. I also cut out, stacked, and glued some pieces of cardboard together to make a branch to go on the top of the tree. To make the roots (which was tricky because no two scenes showing the roots are alike lol), I used more tissue paper to get the desired shape and glued them onto the tree.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next up was the paint! I used mixtures of brown shades and some dry brushes of gray to help bring out textures and details.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also needed to make the symbolic scar on the tree, a reminder of how the story all began. Technically, the scar is kind of submerged into the rest of the tree with the bark growing around it, but I’d already completely covered and painted the tree, so a flat scar would have to suffice. I measured my 12″ figure, sketched out a design, then glued it to the tree (finding the ideal height was fun lol). The scar is lighter than the rest of the bark, so I used the same colors as before, but I used more of the lighter shade.
Tumblr media
I’d also originally glued the entire thing onto a large piece of cardboard to help keep it sturdy, and I was going to paint it to look like grass and dirt. But the cardboard began to warp, so I had to break out a box knife to cut all that away and repaint as necessary LOL. But it was worth it because I’d be able to set it on top of artificial grass and make it look better! And hey, the cardboard helped secure and shape the roots and keep paint from getting all over the counter and floor!
Tumblr media
After putting some greenery on the top of the tree (even though in photos the top may not be visible, but it didn’t look right without it lol), the final touch was adding the vines, which wrapped around the trunk. Yep, the same vines I used on the well. I love those things!
It may not be obvious in these photos, but that tree is about three feet tall! It may still technically be a bit small to be completely to scale based on scenes in the anime, but this will work! Here’s a shot of me showing off the size:
Tumblr media
And that’s it! That’s all the props! At least for now... more may come at a later date! hehehehe Overall, I’m very pleased with how everything turned out!
Thank you to all who contributed to making this doll come to life! This wouldn’t be possible without you!

White people are honestly so tiring
#i was actually excited to watch shadow & bone but all this anti-asian racism... i'm so tired!! i really am so tired!!! #like white people just CANNOT write poc. they can't! and they prove this over and over again and how many more chances must i give them #people more eloquent than me have already written about this but what was the POINT of making alina half-shu han #if all you were going to do was have the characters hurl abuse at her? #i'm genuinely so exhausted. #you CANNOT pat yourself on the back for 'introducing diversity' into a piece of media #and then immediately think 'well we NEED to be racist now as well obviously. we'll fucking die if we cannot' #like NONE of this was in the books. there was NO need for it. #the show really decided to introduce a racist subplot the minute they made a WOC their main character #like you really just could NOT let her be half-asian and have the story the way it was in the books #you just NEEDED to insult the shape of her eyes and call her 'rice-eater' #bro i am just sitting here!!! what the fuck!!! #anyway white people just cannot write poc without being racist . they can't have diversity without being racist #they CANNOT just have characters of colour without insulting them #anyway i feel like it's really telling that everyone who is gushing about s&b is white lol #i'm tired!!! i like the bits with the crows but i do not think i can watch any more of this show #it's fine if you like it but i am really begging you to be a bit more critical of the choices made in this show #and how hurtful they are to any asian people watching it #like great! you wanted to address the shortcomings of the source material as being too white. i get that. i even applaud that. #but did you NEED to put all the anti-asian elements in? think about that.

Yashahime - Character Profile Updates (Post Episode 4)
The Spirit of the Tree of Ages
Tumblr media
A personification of the sacred tree Goshinboku, which was the material used for the Bone Eaters Well and which has the power to transcend time. This personification appears in front of Towa and the others in the form of Kikyo.
Dream Butterflies
Tumblr media
Butterflies in the Dream World. Spirits. When they appear in the real world, they feed on people’s dreams. Those who have been fed upon cannot sleep or dream for the rest of their lives.
Those were the only two new additions added after Episode 4. They are likely going to be updating the profiles as the series goes along. So I will be checking the story and character sections out after episodes and such for any updates.

I’m rewatching Inuyasha because i needed to considering what a heaping pile of unwatchable bullshit Yashahime is (we all agree we’re keeping Moroha though, yes?)
And it’s only occurring me now to look at the Bone Eater’s Well as like... a character? in its own right if that makes sense?
Like just considering when Kagome was allowed to travel back and forth, times it wouldn’t let her, why it worked at times and didn’t at others... it seems like it has intention at times... idk

Yashahime Theory Time
So, Kaede says that the last time the bone-eater well was used was 15 years ago and the twins have 14 years now. This can mean 3 things:
1. Kagome was the last one to time travel through it;
2. The twins mother was the last one to come from the future; or,
3. Someone new came from it.
If Kagome was the last one to travel through it, this means that Rin was 12 years old when Moroha, Setsuna and Towa were born, so RIN IS NOT THE MOTHER (Thank you, Sunrise!).
If Kagome was the last one to time-travel, this means that during the scene of the first episode of HNY, she was at least 3 month preg (it has been 6 month since she was back and if we add 9 month pregnancy to this math, it would be more than 15 years since it was last used, so she MUST be with child for the math to work). Since I don't believe she was with a child back then, I believe someone else was the last one to use the bone-eater well (the twins mother or an OC)...
If the twins mother came from it, this would explain why Sesshomaru took his new born babies from Kaede's Village, since Rin is not a possibility since she was underage to concieve a child.
I know this is an anime and they don't need to follow a logical line of events, but this is my thinking... And I am glad just to know that RIN IS NOT THE MOTHER!

Question for the Inuyasha fandom!
I’m new to Inuyasha and the fandom, but one of my biggest questions when I finished watching Inuyasha for the first time was how the fuck did Sota know that Kagome married Inuyasha if the well had closed up for good once she decided to go back to the feudal era to be with Inuyasha?
If he knew, then either the well might still have let Kagome go back and forth for some amount of time (even if it was just once), OR she could still send letters/communicate through the well even if she couldn’t go through it herself, OR maybe mama higurashi just told the rest of the family that because she assumed they would get married?
But it seemed like Sota saying his sister got married right after high school was the main way to confirm to readers that Kagome and Inuyasha were officially a married couple (besides her calling Sesshomaru “big brother”), so it seemed more like he actually knew they got married?
I wonder if this will be explained in Hanyo no Yashihime? If maybe the well didn’t fully seal back up until a later time? I’m also still in progress of reading the manga so maybe there’s more of an explanation there?
Anyways...I think too much about this kind of stuff. Does anyone have any answers/insight on this? Is there any kind of consensus in the fandom to explain this?

Rin had always been told that the summer solstice invited special magic into the world. Things that normally would seem fantastic even for the world that they live in could happen on the day. And so, Rin hoped she could find something special in the forest today. Maybe a special medicinal herb that could really help someone? Or maybe an extra yummy mushroom? Either way, she had made it her goal to search the forest as much as possible before sundown today.
Several hours later and RIn had collected a large basket full of herb that would be very useful in her on going education in medicine from Kaede-sama. She was just going through the basket as she was walking and before she knew it she exited the forest, but not on the side of the forest that lead to the village. It was a clearing actually. The clearing that lead to the bone eaters well. How weird. Normally Rin had such a great sense of direction. But on this day it seemed like her feet had a mind of their own and they wanted to make their way to the well no matter what. With that in mind, it only took them a few moments to carry her over to the side of the old wooden well where she’d seen the last moments of Naraku along side Lord Sesshomaru not to mention Inuyasha and Kagome disappearing on them for 3 days. The old well had always help a strange fascination to her, though she tried to keep her distance out of reverence to it.
Today though something was over writing that reverence for the Bone Eaters Well. It was making her yearn to lean over the side and peek into the depths. She balanced the basket of herbs on the side of the well as she gave into her urges. It was so dark down there. She couldn’t even see the bottom at first glance. But something in her made her keep starring. And her eyes eventually adjusted. Enough to suddenly feel like something was moving down in the depths. Part of her wanted to look away. To hurry back to the comfort of Kaede’s hut and enjoy a nice warm dinner with her current guardian but something was stopping her.
And then it happened. A weight on her back and she was tumbling over the side of the well. She didn’t even have enough time to scream before she was swallowed up by the darkness. How long was she going to fall? Several long seconds later she finally hit bottom and was stunned momentarily. After being able to get the air back in her lungs Rin tried not to panic. She just had to call for Inuyasha-sama. He had the best hearing in the village and they’d probably start looking for her soon. It was getting dark after all. Or...was it dark already? looking up to the top of the well and it seemed dark. There were no sunset colors she had seen just moments before she’d fallen. That set her heart racing a little more.
Tumblr media
“Inuyasha-sama!! Inuyasha-sama help I’m stuck down here!”  And she kept repeating it until her voice was about to give out, becoming more and more frightened the longer no one came for her. Was she never going to see anyone again?
“Please?? Anybody?!! I’m down here!”

I have an idea!
Tumblr media
Kimetsu no Yaiba and Inuyasha crossover- no idea of a pairing but I have a prologue ready for it! And as this is the first time writing a genderless character, I could use some help!!! Please!?!?!
Disclaimer: As this is a work of fanfiction I hold no claim to the characters that belong to their beloved and recognized creators. I am nothing more than a humble fanfiction writer whose entertainment comes from manipulating fictional characters.
Summary: New adventure awaits our miko.
The sensation of falling, pulled Kagome backwards. Arms stretch out towards her comrades, who in turn reached out, even Inuyasha who had just saved her from the Shikon's darkness had been too slow to return her to his side. It was as if time had slowed, their voices calling out her name in a slow panicked fashion.
Tears sprung to her eyes as she cried back.
"No!" Animalistic and broken as the sound ripped from her throat. She knew her time with them was fleeting, but how could fate rob her of a simple goodbye. It wasn't fair! How could they toy with her heart like this?!
Darkness stole her from them, before soft swirls of indigo and azure swallowed her. The sensation of falling left her, and she simply floated.
She sobbed openly, screams echoing in the silence.
It wasn't fair!
How could fate be so cruel to her!? They gifted her adventure and purpose, and it was all being stolen away because she had done her duty. How did they expect her to live after all she had experienced? How was she to go back to being a normal girl? And how was she to cope in a world without her comrades, her friends?
Another scream ripped through her chest, reverberating through the time stream, disrupting the swirling colors, the sheer anguish she exuded made the well break.
The very thing that had allowed the gods to manipulate its power, broke for the girl that the well had come to care for.
It could not take her back, it had already gone too far to go back, and the gods would seal the well once the girl was once again in her proper time, but it could take her to another place, where evil still lurked and the little time-traveler might find a new beginning.
The colors that been a luminescent blue, flickered to purple before swirls of aqua overtook the time steam.
Some of her friends may no longer exist but she wouldn't be alone. That is if she wanted.
"Do you still wish for adventure?"  The well asked in a soft voice. They spoke with a tone that was neither Male, nor female, with whimsical edge and a deep baritone.
"Who's there?!" Kagome called out, eyes wide as she spun herself around. Was it the Jewel? Couldn't be! She wished it away… Didn't she?
They spoke again, their voice echoing through the vase space around her, yet she could not see anyone no matter which direction she looked. It was as if they were surrounding her. "You already know me, child, I am the one who has been with you throughout your journey, it is with my magic that we have yet to reach your future,"
She blinked.
"You may know me best as Honekui no Ido," it explained gentle.
Her hand flew to cover her mouth, a gasp escaping through her fingers. "You're alive?" It wasn't possible, was it?
There was a chuckle that vibrated through the air."Not in the same sense as yourself. Give me a moment this should make talking between us easier on you," A mass of light formed before Kagome, twisting and expanding till it was able to take on a more humanoid appearance. Black and orange hair sprouted from the top of their hair falling to narrow shoulders and to hang above pupil-less topaz eyes. They looked beautiful, with gentle, rounded features and a slim physique dressed in a simple white kimono. Just like their voice Kagome couldn't pin a gender to this being not that she thought a well could have a gender."I am a constant in this world, always existing in a state of being, allowing me to know what has and will happen- that is if everything goes according to plan,"
"I don't understand," her hand went to her forehead, feeling a migraine beginning to form there. "If your could speak to me, why do it now?" Anger entered her voice, a flower pointed at the being across from her.
"I have witnessed this world a thousand times over, watched it fall and rise again. It was by my will that you were first brought into the past, in hope that by introducing you to that time you would defeat Naraku; so that he would never reach your modern day- to wreak havoc on such a prosperous time that is not eupt to handle his tyranny,"
"Are you saying that if I hadn't destroyed the jewel in the past, he and it would have destroyed the future," her eyes widening.
"Indeed," they nodded with a soft upturn of their lips to show a smile.
"Then what's going on now?" Honekui, as Kagome had now dubbed the being, sighed angrily.
"Because of what I did to you, it had been my intention to let you choose where you wanted to be, but the gods did not like that choice and will seal me shut once we make it to your time,"
"No they can't do that!" Kagome urged panickedly.
"I agree, it's why I have stopped time to speak with you about what you wish to do next. It is too late for me to turn back, my power only flows in one direction at a time, but there is a time before your own where you may still find a purpose,"
"Will I ever see them again?"
They shook their head. "I'm sorry, no, I may have some power but not enough to rival that of the gods. The most I can do is take you to another time period, but the next time you decide to jump into me you'll be returned to your birth time, and I will be sealed forever,"
She worried her lip before looking up into Honekui 's eyes. "Can you at least tell me about the time before just dropping me off like last time?"
Honekui laughed gently with a shake of their head before looking a the young miko gently. "A different type of demon has ascended upon Japan, the Kyūketsuki. While other demons have gone into hiding, the Kyūketsuki have gorged themselves on humans throughout the country, the demon slayers of this time are grossly outmatched, outnumbered and simply uneducated on what they are fighting.  And without the aid of trained monks and mikos such as yourself, the leader of the Kyūketsuki may take hold not only over Japan but the world,"
"Kyūketsuki? Like vampires?" Kagome questioned.
Honekui nodded. "With the terror they cause, other demons have slowly integrated into human society, hiding so that they may live without being pursued by the demon slayers. Although not as knowledgeable like your friend Sango, the slayers are strong but few in number. There is an evil that lurks in that time, growing to a level far surpass the deeds done by Naraku,"
Blue eyes widened. She never thought there could be someone worse than Naraku.
"People are dying, horribly, and slayers are dying before their time leaving humans near defenseless. I believe you have the power to assist in destroying such evil,"
Kagome thought quietly, her hand cupped her chin in a thoughtful manner.
She wanted to help, but could she- a half trained miko- really make a difference against an evil force that could very well rival the likes of Naraku?
Honekui seemed to have faith in her, they had faith in her since the beginning. Though from her point of view it was more that Honekui was going off of speculation that if the timeline was disrupted the outcome would be different- and who's to say that things could have gone much worse! Same could be said of this situation as well!
Kagome rubbed her temples, trying to work through the ache that had taken place there. Time-travel was so complicated!
"How do you know that I am capable of making any difference?" Kagome asked softly, looking down at her hands, and the blood and dirt still clinging to them. She had barely survived the final battle, how could she; weak little Kagome, possibly help?
Honekui cocked their head to the side. "I don't, not yet anyways. Time is much like a river, it bends and breaks, branching off into smaller rivers and streams. Each diverging path can be traced back to a single point in which a decision must be made. This world is full of infinite possibilities, and the decisions made can have astronomical effects. I have already witnessed the possible outcomes of whichever you decide, but the future will forever remain a hypothetical thing until you decide, "
Kagome sighed heavily. "And I doubt there's a chance you'd be willing to share those possible outcomes with me,"
Honekui nodded with a smile. "No, but I will say I wouldn't have stopped time to speak with you if I didn't have faith in you,"
Sighing, again, Kagome looked up at nothing in particular. "Can I think about it?"
"Of course, time has been stopped around us for quite some time now, take as long as you need," Honekui smiled, almost knowingly, or perhaps as they had explained, no matter what she decided they already knew the outcome.
Closing her eyes, Kagome took a deep breath.
In the last several minutes her life had done a complete one-eighth, only to come to a screeching halt despite her emotional and battle worn state. There were two choices before her now. The first was to venture to another time, where an evil on the same level of Naraku was laying waste to the human race. The second was to return to her family in the future, to live as a normal fifteen year old girl and act as if her adventures never happened. But at least with the first she could still return to her family if she decided the slayers didn't need her.
She groaned aloud before looking to her hands with misty sapphire eyes.
Shouldn't this be a harder decision to make?
Despite the two choices, one thing was the same no matter which she picked, she would never be able to return to the feudal era.
Kagome let out a gentle sob, her shoulders shaking as she slowly crumbled, tear once again flooding her eyes. "I just want to say goodbye," she croaked.
Sure, it was entirely possible that she could see her youkai friends; their lives being able to span hundreds of years, but not Sango and Miroku. And even if her youkai friends had the ability to live hundreds of years didn't mean they did.
"The others live,"
Kagome's head shot up to look at Honekui's gentle features.
"As for the monk and slayer, they lived happily together until their bodies succumbed to old age. They loved full heartedly and were loved in turn by their children that lived on after them,"
She blinked before a smile bloomed across her face. She laughed as she cried, hugging herself, despite the pain of losing them she was happy that they could have their happily ever after.
Thoughts? Ideas? I could use some insight....
