Sleep No More Reaction
Holy SHIT guys, this book was AMAZING. I read it so fast I have a book-hangover. I'm very happy that the next book doesn't come out until the end of October, because I'm going to need at least that long to recover emotionally from this one.
Spoilers under the cut!
In no particular order, here are my thoughts:
Quentin is going to have a ROUGH time in book 19. I think he was the person who was least like himself in Titania's world - October was pretty different too, and Sylvester also wasn't having a great time, but there were still pieces of Toby that peeked out and Sylvester's *been* the Mad Duke before; it would've been unpleasant but not unfamiliar. Quentin never had the chance to be that person because Toby got to him first, and it must be pretty sobering for him to realize how bad he could've been.
I wanted to smack Etienne when he showed up and I'm glad Chelsea gave him an earful after she got her memories back.
I'm really glad we're getting a book from Tybalt's perspective, because he was not doing so good in this one.
I really feel like Team Original!Faerie could've gotten Toby on board a lot faster if they'd told her Titania was hurting kids. Toby was hesitant to help them fully even up to finding Luidaeg; the SECOND she met Raysel and Dean in Blind Michael's lands, she started back-talking Luidaeg and investigating things herself.
I'm so glad I re-read An Artificial Night before I read this book; I picked up so many things about the Ride I probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise.
Speaking of An Artificial Night, I was SO happy when Dame Altair popped back up; Seanan McGurie is So. Good. At callbacks and bringing back characters. I do hope we get to meet her in Real!Faerie; I feel this wasn't the best situation to judge her character.
Jessicaaaaaaaaa. She still calls Toby Aunt Birdie!
Grianne! I've loved Grianne since Late Eclipses, and I was so happy that she had such a big part in the book.
I honestly really loved August here? Growing up with someone clearly did a lot to cut through her mother's influence. I'm glad she got to keep her Lorden siblings *and* Toby.
The further we get in the series, the more I realize how much of a failure Amandine is; she fails as a wife she fails as a mother, she fails as a hero, I would even argue she fails herself because she can't seem to understand how to get the things that would make her happy.
Arden and Nolan's AU childhood was amazing and I hope a million fics come out of it (honestly I hope a ton of fics come out of Titania's AU in general; it's such a fun What If? scenario to play with).
Chrysanthe and Theron were awesome! I hope we see them again in another book.
So the baby's going to be named after a month, right? My bet would be June for May (and maybe Gillian?), but like - it has to be *one* of the months, right? (No one's popped up named after a month in AGES I'm dyyiiiiinnnnnggggg please please PLEASE let the baby be the next one!)
Literally the only complaint I had was that May didn't show up; I'm hoping she has a big part in Tybalt's book.
There's probably a bunch more things, but it's all I can think of off the top of my head. Maybe I'll add more if I think of anything. Anyways, if anyone loved the book as much as I did PLEASE come talk to me about it I'm losing my MIND!

Jonathan Stroud: Lockwood & Co.
Excellent.
I have nothing to complain about. It's clever, the characterisations are chef-kiss, the story makes sense on book-level and overarching level both, and the world-building is amazing.
Honestly, if fantasy/horror/mystery/YA/either-of-these is your genre, at least try it. Suffer through teenagers being authentically teenagers while also horrifically traumatised and so courageous it will take your breath away. Watch a society be a society, and wealthy sociopaths be wealthy sociopaths. Enjoy well-crafted detective stories with just a sprinkle of Sherlock-Holmes-flavour here and there. Plot-twists? Sure, but set-up in advance and occasionally satisfying to predict.
Found family, and friendship, and love that is not a trope at all.
This series is an absolute joy of a read.

Hello yes you want a line regarding death and grief that absolutely gutted me?
"'I always knew it was going to end like this,' she said, 'but it still doesn't feel right. Would this ever feel right?'"
It's by no means groundbreaking prose but it made something click in my brain, that i recognized, that just got down to the core aspect of grief for me. It's the knowing it's coming and knowing its the end but it never feels like it should be
which just really rehashes it but god it at something i hadn't realized
I knew her death was coming. I knew it for months and yet still the shock that hit the intense grief i can still feel
Knowing doesn't equate to feelings which logically i should understand but having it laid out for me somehow touched me in a way other descriptions/depictions hadn't. Somehow this managed to hit me at another level in its truthfulness of it, for all it's clumsi(i shouldn't call it that, but in comparison to many other parts of it it feels it almost, seems like it shouldn't be groundbreaking)ness
I'll miss her everyday and it will never be right and unlike the book the hands of time can't be frozen or turned back or transmuted.
And frankly it sucks and i'll have to live with that and my world will always be a little bit wronger for it

So I'm reading PathFinder for the first time and I'm on part three and 90% convinced Angie Sage was high on something for a portion of writing this book

All Systems Red - Chapter 8 - Final
Mind yourselves, there are spoilers for the NOVELLA here, that means I’m basically spoiling near everything - if you plan on reading this novella then this may not be for you.
Oh dear.
Nothing like coming back online and realizing you're in danger.
Module and storage intact, hmmm, did your humans keep their word?
AWW! Your humans want to keep you! That's sweet.
I wonder where it'll go from here - I know MurderBot is sceptical of the 'rights' they'll be given, but I'm hoping they're wrong in this case.
The awkwardness with your fellow SecUnits is maybe only slightly better than awkwardness with humans.
Oh...what I'm getting from that snatch of conversation between Pin-Lee and company grunts our MurderBot was supposed to be wiped. Hmmm, but they got a court order? MurderBot discovering the anonymity of a crowd. Kind of has a 'discovering he world' feeling.
Instinctual defense of your human.
 'What will I be doing?'
"I think you can learn to do anything you want."
I have high hopes.
Poor MurderBot, this is very stressful and hope is dangerous, but I sure am hoping for them.
 Things you're supposed to want.
 Existential crisis my old friend.
'Guardian was a nicer word than owner.'
Oof, I still have my fingers crossed for MurderBot, but this is the end of the book, the last chapter so that issue will probably be left for the next book, but I'm hoping for some inclination here….and I'm hoping that the sentence above wasn't it.
 Oh dear.
 Oh dear.
Is MurderBot just leaving in the middle of the night?!
Maybe they are. Maybe that's better.
 What a fantastic ending.
I like it even better than the 'hallmark' ending offered to MurderBot.
Because maybe it really was too good to be true, or too perfect to last. Maybe a parting like this is better for all of them.
I am hoping they meet again in friendly circumstances, but MurderBot is my fave so I am always rooting for them.

Book Review: “Heirs of Eriad”
“Heirs of Eriad” by Adam Roach
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: I received this book for free from LibraryThing in return for an honest review. Kat is your average high school senior. She is looking forward to turning eighteen, going to prom, and graduating. But all that changes one night at a high school party when she discovers she has powers. With the help of her twin brother, Maximus or Mouse, it is up to her to uncover a secret that could change everything. I struggled to finish this book. I found the plot to be very slow. It seemed to be more about what was going on in Kat's high school then about discovering where her powers came from.

Alright let's imagine a scene that is all too normal in palestine. A palestinian business owner finds his building covered in graffiti stars of Davids and Hebrew that says "gas the arabs" and "death to arabs"
Now imagine there's a reporter there and asks the palestinian business owner what happens and they say "the jews attacked my business"
Pause. Now your response might be "uncle no. Say israelis not jews" and then this is when he would look at you like youre stupid because the israelis doing this are jewish. They are not the Christians or the druze or the palestinian ones with Israeli citizenship. They are Jewish israelis who believe in their religious supremacy. When you graffiti stars of david all over a palestinian business, car, or the street you seek that conflation. it sends a message, this is jewish land and you're next.
The problem is that these videos circulate in zionist circles. "Watch this video of children in gaza calling for the death of jews" "watch how they say they want to fight and kill jews" those children are referring to Israeli soldiers that come in night and do their raids with the star of David attached to their uniform or the ones that bomb them. It's easy to watch those videos and assume that palestinians are indoctrinating their children on anti semitism or you can realize that those children's only interaction with jewish ppl is through violence and parents cannot protect their children from this. Doesn't matter context is lost
Abby Martin went to Jerusalem and interviewed israelis for 2 hours and she says every israeli was extremely confident to say that this land is for them and that they should push the Arabs out and when she interviewed palestinians they spoke of freedom from occupation and their dreams. That's reality. Not the soundbites.
And yet we have invasive youtubers and interviewers constantly in the street of ramallah or wherever in palestine asking palestinians "do you hate jews?" And in those videos you hear those palestinians say "no we have no problem with jews we have a problem with occupation and we have a problem with zionism." Bc this is how we are trained to respond to this trope. Palestinians are very aware what the world thinks of us and the reality is that many palestinians have internalized it and we grow up reading books on the Holocaust and train ourselves to recognize anti semitic dog whistles so zionists don't get the soundbites they want.
So we say "anti zionism is not anti semitism" and we say "israeli zionists" and we do not say "jewish supremacy" even thought it exists in palestine but "zionist supremacy" and in these carefully worded speech we water down what is happening to us in an effort to not deter people away from solidarity. But it means nothing. The world categorically blames palestinians for rising anti semitism they blame us for jewish insecurity globally.

Loneliness was the kind of ghost that haunted you long after you were dead. It stood over your plot in the cemetery where a lone name sat carved in marble. It sat with your urn. It was the wind that carried your ashes when no one claimed your body.
this is such a wonderful quote 🥺

All Systems Red - Chapter 6
Mind yourselves, there are spoilers for the NOVELLA here, that means I’m basically spoiling near everything - if you plan on reading this novella then this may not be for you.
EvilSurvey, leave it to humans to name everything. I wonder if they'll try to name MurdeBot or will they just name them MurderBot.
Existential crisis hitting MurderBot right on time.
'I hate having feelings about reality, I'd much rather have them on my serial' MurderBot, why are you so relatable when our situations hardly compare ;o;
Also the major consideration about just leaving the goup to die is 'but I don't have enough downloads to occupy me till I die'
 I love MurderBot.
Awww, Mensah is my favourite...and also MurderBot's favourite - no coincidence there. Sorry MurderBot, here's more uncomfortable social interaction incoming.
And it absolutely is uncomfortable.
Ugh this guy...I really don't like him, though I understand his reasons...technically. He's annoying about it. Antagonistic, yeah, that's the word. Oh well, we'll see if he lives and what he does afterwards.
The conversation makes it seem like this group is actually big name or from a reputable company or something, hmmm. MurderBot didn't read their files, ...so will they enlighten me?
IT WAS THE SERIALS! Hahaha! Thrillers, crime-shows and adventures are saving their asses
OoOH so Mensah is super important. How did EvilSurvey think they could pull it off then? Did they know? If they have a Company backer they would have to know who they're targeting, right? Hmmm.
Interesting info about bot rights. I'm just as sceptical as MurderBot. Also MurderBot just wants to be left alone to watch their serials. I love MurderBot. I'd leave them alone.
The company does know Mensah is there.
And since she's important they wouldn't screw her over since it would cost them massive amounts of money.
And EvilSurvey does not know...oooh. Well EvilSurvey is landing themselves in hot water either way.
'Reality was too intrusive' so relatable.
Oh no, this guy… please don't be a jackass, please don't be a jackass… fingers crossed
Well, he's not exactly a jackass...not immediately anyways.
'We're too expensive to destroy', yet still cheaply made? How do these two things coexist? ...hmmm maybe it's not 'irreplaceable', but 'cutting costs' instead.
MurderBot… I'm glad you're not human either.
GrayCric is EvilSurvey - tho who they are, we don't know yet - thus they will remain EvilSurvey in my mind forever.
Omg, color-coded field suits XD - first thought is...Among Us hahaha
Fckers came with all the weapons they have and then just said 'come here at this time, we can make an arrangement' yeah right, it's probably prime sniping spot.
MurderBot agrees with me. Though our group seems to have leverege despite not knowing what it is.
Oh dear...a great idea. I'm nervous.
