At this point… I have a new hyperfixation/special interest.
I’m making digital terpene flash cards and also trying to memorize my favorite strains and their effects. Plus, I’m researching all the various forms of THC beyond just delta-9.
I don’t know much yet, but I’m excited to learn more. If anyone has any good book recommendations on the subject, let me know!

I've seen increasing buzz around here about Howl's Moving Castle (book). I think you all deserve to know that all of Diana Wynne Jones's books are filled with characters and plots that are absolutely as delightful and unhinged as that one.
Some Actual Plots include:
Dogsbody - The star Sirius is accused of murder and sentenced to exile on Earth in the body of a dog until he finds a magical item called a Zoi. He's adopted by a young Irish girl living with her abusive and neglectful English relatives. He has to balance his desire to find the Zoi with needing to be a Good Dog for the girl who takes care of him. Also the Wild Hunt is there. Hexwood - A girl finds a magical wood behind her house where she meets a wizard who thinks he's a convict of the intergalactic government, a boy created by the man to destroy said government, and a robot found in a junk heap. The magic wood is actually an alternate reality being generated by an AI who has a grudge to settle with the head of said government. The book is about abuse, PTSD, and trauma. The Dark Lord of Derkholm - Magical world is being destroyed by a company using it as an isekai amusement park for people from another dimension. Bio-wizard is appointed Dark Lord for the year, and he and his family (four of whom are bioengineered griffins) have to find a way to survive the season while everything is going wrong. Deep Secret - Interdimensional detective/diplomat/wizard needs to find a replacement for his deceased mentor. He does so at a fantasy convention, while trying to keep an interdimensional empire from collapsing into civil war after the emperor is assassinated along with all of his heirs.
She's an absolute master at weaving fantasy elements into the mundane world and writing from the PoV of kids. Her books are funny, clever, and full of delightful characters. I'm begging you all to check them out.

Anyone got fun sci-fi recs? Emphasis on Fun.
Murderbot are my comfort books and I loved The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet. That's really the ideal vein that I'm looking for. I've read some Scalzi books and enjoyed them and same with the Martian, but beyond that I'm still pretty fresh to sci fi. I'm a big fantasy person, so I'd appreciate any and all ideas of what I can explore next. Thanks!!!

i keep seeing people in their late teens/early twenties having a "[X] content intended for younger audiences does not feel satisfying to me anymore but i don't know where to start to branch out into adult fiction" moment and i thought i would give some recommendations for adult fiction for my fellow creepy crawly queer people. all or at least a LOT of it will be on the darker and more fucked up side bc i primarily engage with horror and thriller media personally but feel free to add on with more or recommendations from other genres :)
edit: i am continuing to add to this list so there might be new recs (highlighted in pink) in here every once in a while! also want to add that there's a variety of POC, queer, and disabled authors in here as well, i am also all of the above (asian, bi/aro, poly, disabled) and tried to incorporate as many of their wickedly talented, compelling narratives as possible. that's all, happy reading!

Trans Horror Authors
My January reading challenge is to read a book by a trans author. Luckily, there are many out there to choose from! Here are some who write in the horror genre, because that's my area of expertise. If you know of others, whether in horror or other genres, reply with your recommendations!
In no particular order...
Caitlin R. Kiernan
A genderfluid Irish-American paleontologist who also writes spectacular cosmic horror, what's not to love? They've been repping queerness since the 80s and have a robust library to choose from, so you're bound to find something you'll like!
Poppy Z. Brite
Billy Martin, whose work is published under the name Poppy Z. Brite, was a big name in the Gothic horror scene of the 1990s and continues to be a frequently-recommended author, although he doesn't publish as much horror these days.
Julya Oui
A Malaysian trans woman and prolific short story author. She has several collections out that you can browse, if short stories are your speed! Maybe start with Taiping Tales of Terror, which draws heavily on her native folklore and influences.
Rivers Solomon
A nonbinary, intersex Black author now living in the U.K., Solomon has three books out and they all look spectacular. Their books lean more toward sci-fi/fantasy, but their newest title Sorrowland looks to be pretty solidly Gothic as well.
Gretchen Felker-Martin
Trans woman, film critic, and unapologetically outspoken. Her best-known book is Manhunt, a post-apocalyptic horror tale that doesn't pull any punches. She's got another new release slated for 2024 to keep an eye on.
Hailey Piper
One of the most prolific authors I can name off the top of my head, Hailey also has several novellas out in the world + a few novels. If the intersection of queer fiction, body horror, and cosmic horror sounds like your thing, you can find something in her backlist. Also she's here on tumblr, go learn more at @haileypiperfights
Eve Harms
A bit of a new player on the field, but well worth checking out. Eve is a Jewish trans woman. Her debut novel, Transmuted, is a breathless body horror romp. She also makes a bunch of handmade zines, which I just think are neat :)
Natalie Ironside
One of Tumblr's very own better-known names, Natalie is queer, disabled, trans, hilarious, and author to at least three novels I can think of plus some other stuff too - go scope her out on @natalieironside for the details.
.....I know I'm missing a ton of people but these were the first ones that came to mind. I have to get back to writing, but I hope this inspires y'all to pick up a book you haven't read yet, and to add to my list down in the notes.
Happy reading, y'all :)

Not sure what my motive is here, but . . .
The results will not affect which books I post about, because I actually have to want to read them, but I'm dying to know who likes to suffer!

Hello Tumblr friends, apropos of nothing, I have a book recommendation for you.
If You Think You Would Enjoy:
First person narration that Does Something Cool With It
Urban fantasy that really leans into the urban aspect. The mundane beauty of the city made magical
London Man Investigates His Own Murder While Committing Several More Murders, more at 8
A protagonist who is just an absolute wet pathetic paper bag of a man and knows it
A protagonist(s) who are the exuberant and unhinged personification of telecommunications technology with an unparalleled zest for life and also sometimes murder
Both of those characters are technically the same person
The most breathtakingly gorgeous prose that has ever been used to describe a magically animated pile of garbage
A tone that I feel can reasonably be described as “gritty,” with its refusal to shy away from the blood and grime of reality, but that is also suffused with a deep unflinching love for everything that humanity is
A supporting cast that includes many of the world’s weirdest and most badass women
The protagonist getting beat up and/or stabbed and/or shot and almost dying at least twice per book
A reading experience not quite like any you have seen before or since
Then You Should Read:
Tumblr media
The Matthew Swift series by Kate Griffin, starting with A Madness of Angels
If you love the city of London, you will love this book. If you have never been to the city of London, this book will show you what it looks like through the eyes of someone who loves it.
(And also what it looks like when embodied as a giant dragon made of street signs.)
I cannot emphasize enough the gorgeousness of this prose, the geniusness of the urban magic system, and the amount of love for London and for humanity that oozes out of this book. I am also fully convinced that Matthew Swift would be a tumblr blorbo if his books were not mostly out of print and very niche.
It can be a bit hard to get your hands on a physical copy—try thriftbooks or another online used bookseller, or call your friendly neighborhood bookstore and see if they can order it for you. Or just go for an ebook (maybe your library has it on Libby). It is absolutely worth the trouble.
Brief content note while I have you here: There is a fair amount of violence and it is sometimes very lovingly described. Also...don’t get too attached to side characters.
Go read it and then join the approximately 3 people on tumblr who know this book exists and are obsessed with it!!

Fat people deserve better.
We are not repulsive. We are not vile. We are not appalling.
We are people.
If my existence "promotes obesity"? Good!
You want to know why?
I am not promoting the idea that someone should become obese. I am not going to attempt to police someone else's body and lifestyle like sizeist people do.
I am promoting the idea that people of all sizes are deserving of the bare minimum of basic human respect.
This should not be a radical idea. This should not be something we have to fight about.
99% of the time? Being fat is not a choice. And you know what? Even if it was - even if I was shoving big macs into my greasy fucking maw every 2 hours?
I would still be deserving of basic decency.
I would still be deserving of proper medical care that takes into account things other than my size and diet.
I would still be deserving of comfort, of clothing that fits.
You want to know the worst part of all of this?
Fat kids deserve better, and all too often, they don't get it.
Fat kids deserve to be able to be active without being mocked for the way their body moves.
Fat kids deserve to be seen as children rather than medical problems that need solving.
Fat kids deserve clothing that fits them and makes them feel good about themselves.
Fat kids deserve to eat, and to eat good food.
Fat kids deserve to eat cake at birthday parties like everyone else.
Fat kids deserve to go trick-or-treating like all the other kids.
Fat kids deserve love. Fat kids deserve respect.
Fat kids deserve a proper childhood without having to pay a toll of trying to change their bodies.
Fat kids deserve acceptance for their bodies as they are and as they will be - not pleasantries about how they'll grow up to be skinny, so they don't need to learn to love themselves before then.
Fat people deserve better.

i read quite a lot. and, as a transmasculine person who struggles with my mental health, i have a few books to recommend to other transmascs, or really just trans people in general.
“hell followed with us” by andrew joseph white — a dystopian about a future where a cult destroys everything in an attempt to "cleanse" the earth, and a trans boy who is slowly turning into a monster, his autistic soldier boyfriend, and their eclectic collection of queer friends must rescue the few survivors and try to salvage the world.
“self-made boys” by anna-marie mclemore — a retelling of “the great gatsby” where nick and gatsby are both trans boys attempting to remake themselves into the men they were always meant to be.
“the sunbearer trials” by aiden thomas — a transmasc demigod with wings competes in a competition with eleven other demigods, where losing means death and winning means glory.
“cemetery boys,” also by aiden thomas — a trans boy, in an attempt to prove himself to his family, attempts to solve a mystery, but accidentally ends up summoning the wrong ghost in the process.
“both can be true” by jules machias — a genderfluid middle schooler and her unlikely companion rescue a dog from being put down and learn about themselves and each other in the process.
“the many half-lived lives of sam sylvester” by maya macgregor — an autistic, nonbinary teenager moves across the country, only to find themself in a house where, several years ago, a murder was committed...and it just so happens that their special interest lies in solving murders just like that one
if there are any others that you know of, please tell me about them! i would also love to read more books with transfemme protagonists. anyway, i hope at least one person enjoys these books as much as i did. i know they helped me feel seen. representation matters. and, as always, i love you, trans people. trans rights are, and always have been, human rights.

You collect the right amount of notes very quickly. I am surprised and very glad that you like it. Therefore, here is the fourth part with the Genos.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And most likely I will soon do another part with Rimuru (there is a new chapter out there).
Let's probably collect 35 notes now and then I'll start doing the fifth part with the Genos.
