The Fine Print
I realized i didn't post about Rowan Kane who officially increased my expectations a lot higher so here are some points why i am in love with him:
(SPOILERS)
1. He organized a book signing event just so Zahara could meet her favorite author. *askdjakjflfepwd*
2. He basically watched all the possible Pride and Prejudice makings just because Zahara loved it, he took a quiz to find out what character he is and told Zahara that the quiz reminded him of her. *screams*
2. HE LITERALLY DESCRIBED KISSING ZAHARA LIKE THIS:  Kissing Zahra is like reaching Heaven after an eternity spent in purgatory. Like I’ve spent most of my life hopelessly ambling around, waiting for her to show me the way back to the light. She’s divine with enough wickedness to make a sinner like me want to pray in devotion.
3. He has the emotional maturity of a robot and the appeal of rush hour traffic.
4. SARCASTIC ASFF
5. He is a sarcastic flirt AND IF THAT ISNT THE BEST THING EVER.
5. He hates everyone but her. *gasps*
6. He will never stop being greedy when it comes to zahara.

The Alloy of Law - Review
4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Tumblr media
At long last, I got around to starting the Mistborn Era 2 books. After having a meh reaction to the Era 1, I was getting ready to be similarly "impressed" by the sequel.
I should've known that something involving fantasy and guns would be anything but boring. I like that as a reader you don't get the whole "started from the bottom" characters - they are already established, their existence stretching to before the beginning of the book. Even though, generally, the plot and characters are simply built and are quite stereotypical, there is just something in this book that catches the readers' interest. Bonus points for the world being very similar to the Industrial Revolution era in our own reality.
The plot was pretty much straight-forward - we have a high-born former lawman, Lord Waxillium Ladrian, who's left the comforts of the city to find his destiny in the forgotten parts of the world (the Roughs). He built quite the reputation, but was forced to return to his family's home as heir after his uncle's death. A series of train robberies that end up with valuables stolen and hostages sparks the interest of Wax and throws him into the midst of finding the culprits and bringing them to justice. He takes on getting to the bottom of the crimes alongisde his former Roughs' loyal companion and friend, Wayne, and Lady Marasi Colms, a noble woman studying law at the Universty, a lady familiar with Wax's past actions as a lawman (from papers and studies, mostly).
Wayne is definitely the comedy relief while being the ever-loyal side-kick styled character to Wax's dominant, do-good, man of the common folk type. Of course, Marasi, the mandatory lady character who likes the comforts of high society, but thirsts for adventure one way or another (too stereotypical, in my opinion).
And my favourite characters: the guns, rifles, bullets, bullet casings, explosives and... unbreachable train carts (I barely read any books in which guns are constantly present and used).
Seriously, the guns were so often used that it's almost like they have their own personality.
Of course, the guns should be ever present since the plot is about stopping train heists from happening (deeper motivation there as this is about Allomancy, but I'm not getting into the details here).
I genuinely enjoyed this book a lot and only in retrospective did I notice how bland the plot and characters are. The most complex part, I suppose, is the magic system. Allomancy is a system that it quite simple at its basis, yet the details are what makes it complicated and sometimes hard to understand.
I will continue reading the series - quite excited for book 2, Shadows of Self, actually.

8th of February, 2017 I have been trying my hardest to get back into reading. I used to devour novel and short story but somewhere in the last few years I stopped reading all together. However in the last week I have finished two books, which is motivating me to do more and read more. I decided to take inspiration from all of the beautiful BuJo blogs I follow and create my own motivational tracker in my Arc Notebook. Let's hope I can fill it at the end of the year.
