~ The little wartime library ~
Hi! So, the first book I read this year, was The little wartime library by Kate Thompson, I enjoyed this book a lot, so here I leave my review, hope you like it!📚💫
I must say that it's one of those books you can't stop reading until you finish it.
Based on true events, it tells the story of the little underground library in Bethnal Green—a library that, as the book narrates, helped many people escape the harsh reality of World War II.
It not only talks about this small underground library but also introduces its two main characters, two women, Ruby Munroe and Clara Button—best friends with their own individual stories, yet sharing a common passion for the library and all it represents.
Throughout the book, we learn about our protagonists' stories and the situation of women during that time. Despite everything, they forge ahead, supporting each other and facing the adversities of the era.

Finding truth beneath the lies (C.C Masters) - MY REVIEW
Tumblr media
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book series is genuinely one of my favourites❤️
Recently i’ve been really stressed because of school but this book provided just what i needed!!
I’m really enjoying the world building and relationships with the boys. It’s such a shame what happened to Talen, I hope he comes back :( Gemma was horrible from the start, i’m so sad the boys didn’t see it.
I overall really love this series! The writer is so amazing and I will be continuing this series <3

Reading H.P. Lovecraft's tales
It's quite upsetting how Lovecraft is a little too much racist in his works. The descriptions of the rituals always got to involve black or indigenous aspects and he calls them diabolic. I'm currently reading 'Dunwich Horror' and its constant associations of the main character - described as dark-skinned - to animals like goats is one of the most disgusting things in this piece. Even so, the entire plot is very intriguing and meets Cthullhu's Universe. Anyways, I'm open to discussion, I love to talk about whatever I'm reading 'cause helps me to remember it.

TSOA reviews amuse me. Like there’s one saying that the writing is beautiful, sincere, and they are emotionaly wrecked by the tragedy of this love story. And right next to it one says that it is the worst book they’ve read, nothing like the source material and overall cringy and emotionless. Which for some reason makes me chuckle.

I didn’t like it. The author did a horrible job of putting this story in order. It jump all around a timeline from when Dasani was a pre teen to an adult. All the adults in the story pissed me off except like 3, they failed those kids horribly.

Reseña Concilio de Sombras
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Love on the brain by Ali Hazelwood is the second book I had read by the author. I was keen to read this romcom, so I try to read this one in English and It was a success. And this is the reason for this review is writing in English. (Sorry for this, I need to practice)
What it is about? Bee Königswasser is a neuroscientist, one of the leading scientists in his field. Her life changes when NASA offered her the lead on a neuroengineering project. In her new job, she meets up again with Levi, an old university acquaintance. He hates her. Bee is sure. Thus began an odd collaboration marked by fainting, weird things begin to occur, sex attraction, a cat and misunderstanding. A funny romcom with a little mystery.
I like Love on the brain more than The Love Hypothesis. I love de last one, but Bee and her obsession with Marie Curie is so interesting. Hazelwood offers us a story with many possibilities and more than one reading. Some of the topics are: mental health, academic world, personal fears, non-traditional family, the uncertain future or grieving process. The comedy is a chaotic destiny of love. The situations mixed the severity of this issues with great dialogues, irreverent situations —stories of Marie Curie, cats, amazing dresses, conferences, one room...
This novel is addictive, funny and the main characters are so sweet. I love the relationship. Bee and Levi have chemical. They past and present have a complicated story. The author resolved the plot with introspection, daringness and science. It’s a great combination. I want to read he next novel!

Ensaios | George Orwell
-> Facism & Democracy
🧠 "não"-Ficção Inglesa, Contos
📖 TESTE

First book finished in 2023 !!
I finished my first book of the year yet in January. Some thoughts of mine: it's been years - I'm not kidding - since the last time I completed a book, it's insane how much lack of interest has been surrounding me till then.
And before everything, I'm also trying to train my English writing skills.
The Great Gatsby (O Grande Gatsby)
I read the version translated into Portuguese. Also in the ebook.
Tumblr media
My opinion:
I love how poetic the descriptions are, just in the beginning, when I was more interested in the story, I marked this: "É um vale de cinzas - uma fazenda fantástica em que as cinzas crescem como o trigo em sulcos, colinas e jardins grotescos; onde as cinzas assumem a forma de casas, chaminés e fumaça espiralando e, por fim, em um esforço transcendental, tomam forma de homens cinzentos que se movem vagamente e se esfacelam no ar pulverento". This excerpt is about Nick's description of what train passengers see on the way between New York and Long Island, the Valley of Ashes. One of the most difficult things for me while reading a foreign book is to visualize the places, but after comeback sometimes to understand this part, I deeply feel what Fitzgerald wanted to pass. It's beautiful, it's decadent.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I got a little discouraged. I knew it was a very classic book on North American Literature but during some parts, especially the party ones, I feel like watching some cliché romance novel. Otherwise, when I finally came to the climax to the end of it, I started to understand the necessity of all that worldly luxury.
Tumblr media
So for that reason above, I left my advice: Be a little more engaged in the historical context before diving into The Great Gatsby. For sure, if I had done some more research about New York in the 20s and overall about the decade, stuff like the alcohol prohibition, and the Roaring Twenties, probably my understatement of the book would be much more fluid. My fault.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I guess it's all, I hope someone finds it interesting. To me, it's a five stars book.

Reading a book ;
a home I can always run to when I am tired of all the world's foolishness, my escape and quiet space in the midst of chaos, my hiding place in this world of sorrow.
