Does anyone is TAOB besides Kanut give you ace and/or aro vibes?

ooo i love this question!! (also, please know that i am just a simple ace and i do not speak for the community and if any of my ‘reasonings’ are phrased in any way that makes anyone uncomfy, please let me know as that is not my intention!)

obviously, toph is aro (this is one of the few queer hcs i had before coming to tumblr). i’m also a big fan of ace zuko (ace zuko bonding with aroace kanut? yes please!)

i also get demi vibes from nanook--the only crush we’ve heard of him having is on a childhood friend, someone he had gotten to know already

bato is very flirty, but i think a demiromantic hc might be fun for him--i’m personally a big bakoda shipper (fuck hella and her straight hakoda delusions) and i believe that hella is considering shipping baput (apato?), which once again continues the theme of bato only developing romantic feelings for those he knows well

have aput or tulok given any mention of romantic or sexual orientations? i feel like tulok might be gay but there’s no reason he can’t be gay and ace. and i don’t wanna sabotage baput, but he could be a-spec as well.

i know everybody wants to be pegged by her, but i could kinda see tovah as an ace lesbian (i think hella says she’s bi and i will support that obviously cause bi rep is rare, but she gives me Big lesbian vibes personally)

also, i don’t think tomkin is ace- and/or aro- spec, but i do enjoy hcing him as trans. i know that’s not want you asked, but i think trans characters are almost as rare as a-spec characters (especially since in taob we currently have no canon trans characters). anyone feel free to add on!

Nanook doesn't get enough attention from the TAOB fanbase. I think Sokka is gonna be a great and upcoming character, and I'm really exited to see what she does with it. Kanut is a great representation of ace people, and I think his sarcasm speaks for us all. I would let tovah murder me because I think she would do a good job.

yes!! tomkin is amazing but i think he would be disappointed in the fandom for focusing so much on him rather than appreciating his bestie? nanook is so spectacular and an essential part of the trio and the fandom better not forget it 🔪🔪

yes again!! sokka is just so relatable so i love seeing his pov and i especially love the mistrust he has for zuko rn. enemies to lovers is the best

yep, kanut is my ace king for a reason. i wish there was more ace representation (in media in general) so that he could just be amazing in his own right and not also for being a rare form of rep, but im so grateful to have rep where it’s not a big deal but it is occasionally addressed (in one of the earlier chapters, his friends tease kanut for being a prude and that’s one of my favorite and least favorite ways his asexuality is addressed cause on the one hand: RELATABLE!! ive gotten better at faking interest in conversations that just confuse me and/or ick me out, but i’ve definitely been called a prude anyway. but also, i don’t love it cause prude does have a negative connotation and im like 😠support kanut better😠 (but i know they’re joking))

tovah does a good job at everything she does, but please don’t let her murder you!! tbh she’s more likely to manipulate you into helping her with some plan anyway

It's funny you made that post about TAOB because the other day I was like, "I should ask Boom for their thoughts on TAOB". Then I realized you literally have a podcast to talk about it that I am several episodes behind on, but since you're offering, thoughts on Kanut and/or Tom Nook? Thank you! :)

you think talking to abby and ashla about taob for an hour every week is enough discussion of taob for me??

literally, i could lead a whole class on taob (wait i literally lead book clubs/informal classes for kids as a job yall should pay me to lead a taob one) and i’d still be like :( i want to talk about taob more

anyway, i realized on the episode of the podcast just posted today that i love kanut and tomkin (and zuko and aang) cause they’re basically all the same core characters they just deal with it differently? essentially the ingredients are (1) Terrible Trauma and reason to be bitter and hate the world (2) they actually love people and want to help others as much as they can. like tell me that’s not the uniting factor among all of them? cause tomkin is the most like me and that’s why i’m So defensive of his positivity (cause, despite complaining a lot, i work really hard to smile and be a comforting presence to people no matter how i feel and being open and vulnerable is very difficult) but even though kanut covers it up, he really is the same and that’s why i love him so much and just--ahh, i love them!!

i wanted to add nanook thoughts to this, but i need to sleep. so he continues to be underappreciated, i’m sorry

okay im gonna be a little self-centered and lazy with this one and ask if you have read this ask i sent hella a while ago. do you have any thoughts on it? i know kanut is your favorite so i just wanna hear your opinion and see if you have anything to add!!

i vividly remember the first time i saw that ask and going into the replies to try to type something — anything — to communicate how feral it was making me. and i couldn’t find words

because it’s so perfect and it’s something i hadn’t put together specifically and i love it.

i feel like you covered the parallels pretty amazingly, so im gonna let myself go on a tangent cause it’s not like i can really improve on your thoughts anyway. so basically, you just barely touched on it when you said something about how zuko was angry before fong and that !!!

i think that a very important part of zuko’s journey is going to be learning (probably from kanut) that it’s okay to be mad at ozai. cause anger at a parent is so—it just feels fundamentally wrong, like you’re betraying the one person you’re always supposed to love, who you have always loved. it’s very different from any other sort of toxic/abusive relationship where you have lived without it (which isn’t to say those aren’t terribly difficult to leave as well), but parents have spent your whole life telling you that you should be grateful to them and you’ve believed they loved you and were doing their best. (and i know the parent’s bond to a child is supposed to be the most special one in the world, but i personally think people discount the love of a child for their parent. that’s literally their whole world, of course the child loves their parent with their whole heart). so you make excuses when they make mistakes or you “deserve” punishments, especially cause they’re the firelord, so you can’t question them

but as much as zuko needs to learn to accept his anger and let himself feel it, he also needs to let it go. he needs to let go of fong and ozai (and ursa and his past relationship with azula) so that he isn’t drowning in that negativity. so that he can fully commit to loving zi se and sokka and his friends and uncles and family. and he really hides it, but i think kanut is really emotionally mature. because he doesn’t have to use up any brain space on romance, so he knows all about dedicating your brain to your family—for better or worse.

i don’t know if that made sense exactly, but i guess im trying to get at the fact that zuko needs to start directing his anger outwards (cause, as much as i was team ‘don’t kill fong cause he deserves to suffer more and also murder will weigh on your conscience,’ it was actually a big step to blaming someone other than himself for his struggles) but then he needs to just let it out and let it go so he can move on
