boruto is a character assassination

naruto wanted to end the shinobi world. he wanted people to stop dying meaningless deaths as mere tools (haku fight). he wanted to end the cycle of grief and revenge that drove so many of the conflicts he experienced (sasuke, pein). while he loved those around him, he became aware that children should not be training to fight from the moment they can walk - the future naruto dreamed of was so, so different from how he grew up.

in his journey to bring sasuke back, he learned so much about the circumstances that create this cycle of suffering and hatred. “we could so easily be in each other’s shoes”. he dreamed of ways to end it. he promised this to pein. he never, ever wanted anyone to go through what he and sasuke went through. ever again.

and yet, in boruto, basically nothing has changed. children still go on dangerous, life-threatening missions. they still start training as shinobi as soon as they can grasp a kunai. naruto works hard, but to what end? what is he changing? i mean, all of the work he did ending the akatsuki, the corruption in konoha, the war, etc, certainly set the future up for more peace, but beyond that... the system hasn’t changed. we watched naruto persist, absolutely REFUSE to give up, until he had saved sasuke. are we to believe that he suddenly would lose all of his resolve, and let the system continue to endanger children, and perpetuate a warlike culture?

the end of shippuden is literally naruto acknowledging that sasuke was right. in the end, they agree. but the writers of boruto just want us to forget about all of that so they can have their happy little sequel, which seems more like hinata’s infinite tsukuyomi dream.

okay so whether I actually ship sarada and boruto fluctuates depending on like my mood but anyways, I think it’s fucking hilarious if sasuke misunderstands and thinks his daughter LIKES boruto. like his knee-jerk reaction would be. I do not like this.

it’s more about like, the fact that his daughter liking someone is a forgien concept to him because to him still — she’s his baby, despite how he knows she’s also shinobi and etc and I don’t think he’ll mind that it’s boruto.

because you know at least it’s someone he knows. and sasuke knows that boruto is a good kid and more: he is his best friend’s kid and he loves him a lot. that’s a lot of good points for boruto, lol.

it’s good to know that sarada ended up liking boruto, out of anyone she could. but you know. it’s harder to put that into practice. because his knee-jerk reaction every time he thinks of it being a real thing is his brain going NOPE and deeply disliking it. like every time he sees sarada and boruto having “moments” and lol, “evidence” of sarada’s crush on boruto he is like. No. Nope. Not doing this. and has to actively work against this.

so my point about all of this:

papasuke being all constipated about this as he forces himself to come into terms about this. because he knows boruto and he really isn’t a bad kid — it’s the exact opposite and sasuke he doesn’t want to be that parent. the one who like disproves of their child’s relationship when there’s no real reason to.

he did wonder (and does still, sometime) what his parents would have thought of Sakura and how maybe his clan might have not accepted her at first . and anyways, so. HOW LIKE SASUKE IS ACTUALLY GETTING HIMSELF WORKED UP OVER NOTHING because lol there’s really nothing going between boruto and sarada. and in fact they’re really confused at what her father is ???? up to when he tries to “push them together” in a completely reluctance thing.

boruto is scared because he thinks uncle sasuke is out to kill him or him and sarada thinks boruto overreacting and just thinks that her father is up to weird antics. (he is) (I have so many thoughts about father weird antics because papasuke WOULD HAVE A LOT)

so where is Sakura in all of this.

she doesn’t like, notice, it at first but notices that something is agonising sasuke but — it doesn’t look like a big thing, so she decides if he wants to like tell her, he will but then…. she connects the dots. and just laughs. so bad.

sakura did have her moment of thinking for a if her daughter and boruto were like that but soon found that it wasn’t like. but lol, sakura obvs decides doesn’t tell sasuke — she thinks it’s really sweet of him and endearing and perhaps a good curve for papasuke so she just leaves him to it. but she also thinks it’s fucking hilarious. why would she tell him it when she can enjoy watching him stumble around

(naruto founds out later on and sakura stops him from blurting it out to sasuke and they DEF laugh over sasuke for it)

(his wife and friend are gonna get so much shit when sasuke founds out tho, lmao)

(but also they never let him forget this. Never)

BUT ALSO. while I did plan like for sarada and boruto to not get together. I think it’s fuckinh hilarious if sasuke manages to be like the reason they are nudged in that way and just AFTER sasuke breathes a sigh of relief that no his daughter isn’t in love with like the dobe’s son, IT TURNS OUT THEY ARE AND THEYRE GETTING MARRIED AND ITS BECAUSE OF HIM. + pain damage for sasuke

speaking of hinata i think it’s really funny how like

naruto literally forgot her name when they met again in shippuden (SP wants her to be relevant in naruto’s childhood sooo baaaddd but you can’t get rid of that lol)

hinata confessed to naruto and then almost fucking died, which was the last straw for naruto and he transformed, but did absolutely nothing with her confession afterwards. if he really... loved her... he would probably have like. hit her up after that. ya know? but uh, he kinda like, immediately went back to chasing sasuke lol

hinata also tried to be romantic with naruto during the war and yeah, it did help comfort him, but then as soon as sasuke showed up no one else existed lol

what’s even funnier is that even if sasuke didn’t exist, naruto clearly doesn’t give a fuck about hinata or he would’ve acted when she confessed her feelings to him. he let like 4? years pass between her confession and the events of The Last, and even then he was like coerced into liking her

it’s so sad and naruto is clearly so unhappy in his marriage. like ffs he’s ready to leave them at the drop of a hat for sasuke, and they even sleep in separate rooms

if i was religious i would pray for some more brain cells for NH stans but i can’t be bothered so
