A LINK BETWEEN WORLDS
please
To me albw is a remarkeable game in many ways. Its ability to tell such a complex and interesting narrative with very few cutscenes and fairly short dialogue dumps is amazing!
I wish it was aesthetically more my style, smth about its 3D modeling feels more unfinished than stylized. It may be a 3DS hardware issue, but it does still take from my experience since I'm a very visual person. :(
I also don't really love the dungeons being open to do in any order I want. I find Zelda puzzling the best part of the gameplay and the more open the easier it is for me to get lost about whats a puzzle and whats just a wall!
Also the music is some of the best in the series. My goodness. Absolutely incredible. It sounds?? Saturated and legendary?? :O Like a painting of heroism!
Speaking of paintings albw has my favourite official art, I own a huge poster of it.
Uuh. In conclusion! Love that game and I reccomend it to anyone curious of top down zelda games, but who are more used to the 3D games' narrative focus or botw/totk's openess!

ok so you know how months ago i posted headshots of my trio and said i had finished i had them all. well i was wrong. but this time im right i promise
ID: pencil sketches colored digitally, a lineup of Link, (a younger) Ganon and Zelda (with Fi behind her), or at least my designs for my LoZ au. Fi looks slightly different, mostly in that her “arms” are more like feathery wings. Zelda has the Master Sword at her waist, and Ganon and Link both have strong blue accents in their outfits to match her. Long in depth descriptions of their outfits are below the cut. end ID
I really want to go into all their designs because I’ve put sooo much time into them but do not want that long post cut off again for just one image...
LINK: is the shortest, freckled, with sharp eyes and light brown hair that is longer but similar to the style of Skyward Sword Link. His tunic has long sleeves rolled up the elbow, with white embroidered accents showing leaves and a fairy. He has a long blue scarf with white stripes, and wears a black obi with a flute tucked haphazardly in, under a thick leather belt, from which hangs a pouch for an ocarina. His fingerless gloves and boots match, the same brown leather as his belt but with the tops rolled down to reveal lighter, orange-y leather and stitched hems. The boots toes are enforced with metal, and the same leaf pattern on his tunic runs up the front of the boot. The right knee of his pants has a patch. A slit on the side of his tunic’s skirt reveals chainmail, and of course he has small blue hoop earrings, with no visible gold or triangular motifs. Biggest inspirations: Link to the Past Link illustration where all he’s wearing all his items, and TP Link.
GANON: is the tallest, with his trademark gold eyes and fiery hair, which falls in spikes around his face, one long segment of hair over each shoulder, ending in golden triangle accessories. He wears a high-collared off-white tunic with bishop sleeves, hemmed with a dark pink geometric pattern. Over this he wears a very dark blue sleeveless a-line silhouette coat with golden accents and buttons. His belt is blue and wraps around his waist twice, with a pouch on his hip. On the other side hangs a pendant which is hardly visible but matches the one on Zelda’s top (it was once hers - his original pendant matched the accessories in his hair, and he gave it to Link as a good luck charm. Link, in turn, gave Zelda her bracelet.) He has blue leg warmers and black pointy-toed boots. The pencil lines show a backpack and the mark of the Triforce on his hand. The goal is fancy but not overly so, still practical and cozy. Biggest inspirations: variety of academic-type NPCs though the series (ex: Owlan, several guys I ran into frequently in BOTW) and Koume & Kotake.
ZELDA: is the only one here who I drew knowing she would be in this lineup, and so her pose and lines are more intentional. She has blunt bangs and equally blunt hair cut above her shoulders, plus the Toon Zelda zig-zag locks framing her face. Her earrings are large but simple gold triangles. She wears a sleeveless white shirt under an off-the-shoulder blue top with a circular cutout in the middle of the chest, just under the neckline which is held together with a gold pendant. The pendant is a circle with small stylized wings (echoed in the pattern on her top) with a red gem in the center and a red tassel hanging down, matching the tassel she has attached to the Master Sword’s hilt. She wears a black underbust corset with tails in the front and back, gold accessories at the ends. Her flared pants have white stripes near the bottom similar to the stripes on several Zelda’s dresses, and her leather boots have golden soles. She wears a green bracelet on her right wrist, along with nearly a full arm of golden armor, green and black painted detail, on her left. Biggest inspirations: idk she just happened <3 Skyward Sword Zelda concept art

What do you think of Hylia? I’ve seen fans paint her as the true villain of Zelda series. Many of which blame her for the reincarnation cycle, and pretty much every bad thing that happened after SkSw’s era.
I have strong feelings about the fandom’s treatment of Hylia, but I’m gonna try to keep this chill.
Long story short, the hatred for Hylia doesn’t make logical sense.
It’s based on the erroneous assumption that Hylia caused the curse (fun fact, if people bothered playing the game they’d see that it was Demise who did it), or it’s based on botw Zelda’s struggles and frustrations because the story is told from her point of view. Oh no!! Hylia is evil because she didn’t listen as Zelda pleaded!! That’s not how prayer works, guys. You don’t get what you want, you get what you need, and Zelda’s major issue stemmed from her father, the pressure on her, her own insecurities, her lack of training and guidance. It’s a two way street to make things work - for all we know Hylia was trying to reach out to her but Zelda couldn’t hear her over the beratement from Rhoam screaming in her head or the whispers of the people echoing in her brain or her own questioning if she could even do it.
So basically, fandom’s Hylia bashing is based on poorly thought out arguments. Also they use characters who don’t even know who she is??? Like, Time, Legend… they have no freaking clue who Hylia is, guys. Her character didn’t even exist when their games were made. Maybe people are trying to make continuity or something, but Hylia was never mentioned in those eras.
Now! Did Hylia do questionable things? Yeah! Yeah, she did! But you know what else she did? She sacrificed herself multiple times to save her people, she fought her own war to protect everyone and the Triforce. She sent people to Skyloft to protect them while fighting alongside those who likely chose to remain. She died in her battle against Demise. She planned on coming back as a mortal, giving up everything she is, so she could finish the job and eliminate the threat. Yes, she used Link - she took a calculated risk, choosing someone with a pure heart who had the fighting prowess necessary if the need arose, and she befriended him. Yes! She used him! It’s messed up! But she also did everything she could to guide and protect him, and she tried to just do it herself without him if she could.
All that being said, sometimes Hylia bashing makes sense in the context of the narrative and the narrator. If your character/narrator has a beef with her for some reason, then yeah, they’re gonna criticize her. Doesn’t make them right about her. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But the idea of the fandom vilifying her is just… stupid.
Sometimes I don’t think it has to do with the stories at all, it’s people venting frustrations they’ve had with religious groups. I can’t fault them for that, but when I see that connection it kind of feels like a smack in the face and really freaking hurts, because God and Christianity aren’t people’s bad experiences, but I’m not opening that can of worms. I can’t control everyone’s experiences and nobody wants to hear me say that just because a person or group of people acted like hateful morons doesn’t mean that’s what Christianity is about. So anyway.
I like Hylia. Demise caused the curse. Hylia was trying to stop him before he even had a chance to utter a word. Demise’s curse led to bad things happening.

The triforce..
Tumblr media
Power, red, related to fire, the godess Din, and the gorons.
Wisdom, blue, related to water, the godess Nayru, and the Zora.
Courage, related to wind, forest, lightning, the godess Farore, the kokiri and the rito.
The colours of the triforce are very deliberate.
Tumblr media
Look familiar? This is RGB, the primary colours of optical colour mixing. There are three additional colours from the triforce colours, and though it varies through the different games, I don't think these colours are too unfamiliar to us.
Magenta, represents shadow in ocarina of time.
Yellow represents lightning in tears of the kingdom, and could easily be switched out for the orange we see representing the sage of spirit in ocarina of time.
Cyan is a tricky one, but honestly I think that this is actually a better representation of water, because I think blue, aka wisdom, is more related to time.
I would probably categorize it like this:
Red = Fire
Blue = Time (or water)
Green = Forest(oot)/Wind(totk)
Magenta = Shadow(oot)/Spirit(totk)
Cyan = Water (or time)
Yellow = Spirit(oot)/Lightning(totk)
This would also place Fire and Water as opposites, which they technically are, so that fits well. But this doesn't actually really matter, because there are only three godesses, and by that I mean that these abilities of the secondary colours are contained within the three godesses!
I would suggest that the triforce of Power contains both Fire and Shadow(oot)/Spirit(totk), the triforce of Wisdom contains both Time and Water, and the triforce of courage contains both Forest(oot)/Wind(totk) as well as Spirit(oot)/Lightning(totk). This also fits very well because in botw/totk there are three types of elemental enemies: Fire, Ice (ice is just frozen water, remember), and Electricity. These abilities mirror the three dragons, and it's extremely clear that lightning belongs to Farore in a way.
Anyway, you probably understand what I'm building up towards, because you've noticed that there's something missing, haven't you? There's this thing where if you mix Red, Blue and Green, just like in the picture above, you get..
White light.
Okay so, I don't believe in the tetraforce, however..
Tumblr media
The thing is, in rgb, white isn't a primary colour. If we were talking about the primary colours of paint that would be CMY and if you mix them you get black, and white is the lack of colour, but now we're talking about RGB, in which white isn't the lack of colour but is Red, Blue and Green mixed together! This means that Hylia - the godess of light - could very well be seen as a godess but also not one of the main godesses, because she was created by the three godesses powers working together.
The three golden godesses also created two other things together; The planet which hyrule is a part of, as well as the triforce.
We have never actually seen Hylia exactly, so what if Hylia is.. kind of like mother earth? What if Hylia is the personification of the planet?
I was also thinking that Hylia could be the personification of the sun, However if the sun is a godess then it wouldn't be one, but be the three golden godesses together, because they are the ones who created the earth and gave it life, like a sun would, and Hylia would be more like a ray of sunshine sent by them to the planet. Every time we see the triforce itself, it is shining as if it's emitting light, which is extremely appropriate for it to do in this theory. So what if Hylia might be the triforce in a way that she is a misinterpration of a princess of sorts that once held the complete triforce inside her, like the kings of the fallen timeline, as well as zelda from breath of the wild.
I guess this series might be more symbolic than we think.
What do you think? Does any of this make sense? Feel free to add to the speculation!

Gonna avoid spoilers as much as possible, just jotting down some thoughts really quick.
Ok, so after spending several hours exploring Hyrule, the sky above and the chasms below, and having finishing one region's main quest, I can safely say that Tears of the Kingdom is really, really good, and the more I play, the more evident it is that Breath of the Wild was severely held back because it had to be playable on Wii U. TotK is not BotW with a shiny new coat of paint-- it's so, so much more.
Old series staple enemies that were missing in BotW make their return, in addition to brand new enemies. Yes, shrines are back, but so are dungeons! You can make almost anything with the Ultrahand and Fuse abilities; cars, skateboards, little houses, rocket-powered koroks, shields that spew flame, diamond swords, spears with bombs on the end (not advised if you do not want to explode)... there's just so much to do and see and explore! I'm easily going to get 70 hours out of this game, and likely many, many more (I logged over 300 hours in BotW).
Oh, and they added potion buffs and armor that prevent you from slipping when you're climbing on wet surfaces. :)
This game was well worth the wait.

Echoes of the Past, Legend of Zelda BotW-TotK fan-fiction.
Following in an Au fan-fiction of the series Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild & Tears of the Kingdom. with the Fan-fiction based around my personal play-through of the series, and how I’ve pieced together the series from the few games I’ve played. ^-^ Contains some spoilers,
Part Three another ZeLink doodle drawn while I was making this fun little fan-fic.
Tumblr media
Part Four Carp.
A cold breeze whistled off the shores in Akkala, with Terry Town reach spreading outwards. A large building was constructed around the chasm by the Hudson workers, with the man himself printed on a large sign close by. Warning workers to be careful when entering the chasm. Up on the hill, overlooking the town and the expanding streets with homes that started to spring up since the final battle. Link looked out his balcony, leaning back in his chair. Taking in the view, he could smell cooking from below. Since their battle, Zelda had found herself living in Link’s home by Terry Town. One built during his time after the upheaval, and the place he spent much time watching Zelda when she used to roam the skies.
With a splash of water hitting him in the face, Link’s pet fish danced within the balcony pond. Link wiped the water from his face, before reaching downwards to place his hand in the water. With a few pecks from his Carp, Link’s memories during the upheaval weren’t as bitter as the time he awoke from his hundred year recovery. Besides his Carp, who greeted him home with a splash, but he had his close friend Hudson and Kilton along his journey. Standing upwards, Link glanced towards his wall of weapons. With Mipha’s trident reflecting in his face. Despite his home being able to face Zelda, Link was close to Mipha’s court. To which he visited many times during his travels to save Zelda from the evils that plagued Hyrule. With a painting of Yona and Sidon hung close to the trident, as did Link’s Zora armor. A smile crossed his face as he gently ran his hand against the armor. Imagining Mipha hard at work, mending the armor just for him.
“Link, dinner is prepared!” Zelda hollered from the bottom of the stairway, with the smell of cheese hitting Link’s noise. He could recall that smell anywhere, as he turned towards the stairway. Pizza, made from Tabantha wheat, Hylian tomato, and Hateno Cheese was Link’s favorite meal when he was traveling, but Link preferred how Zelda made it as she sliced mushrooms on the top for extra flavor. However with her recipe soon learned by Cece of Hateno, her inside foodie came alive. With her opening the Hateno restaurant that was built close to a heart broken pond. “I’ve also prepared a fruit cake for dessert!”
As he reached the bottom of his stairs, Link glanced over as he saw that Zelda had prepared not only a pizza and a fruit cake. Upon closer expectation, Link noticed that she also prepared his second favorite snack, cheese bread. Made from Tabantha wheat and Hateno Cheese. Link remembers preparing this dish by accident, but continued to make it since, upon Zelda return. He has found himself not eating it as much, as he ate what she cooked for him in their times together.
Excitement covered Link’s face as he invited Zelda to come and eat with him. As he knew that once they begin their travels, his tastes will surely change with the new foods he was excited to discover. Zelda giggled by excitement as the two sat down and began their meal, with Zelda glancing out at Zelli and Petal. They were stretching their legs out in the fields of Link’s house. Upon taking a bite of the cheese bread, Zelda smiled in delight. “This is delicious!”
“Mhmm!” Link responded in happiness, with a drop of cheese on his chin.
Zelda smiled as she reached over, wiping away the cheese. Placing her finger in her mouth, with a giggle as Link watched her in a blush. “It's best not to let this go to waste!”
With a blush still on his face, Link continued with his meal. Upon cleaning her plate, Zelda reached for a small knife. One gifted to her by Rhondson upon meeting, with her secretly wanting Zelda to be with Link. Using the knife to cut into the pizza, serving Link a healthy slice.
With the smell of the mushrooms, Link began to track down the type that was used in preparation. Due to food obsession, that made a few of Link’s recipes sought after by skilled chefs. Mostly due him learning this recipes from building on the ones he learned from his travels across Hyrule.
“Link, I’ve talked with Ting earlier today when he was visiting Hudson.” Zelda spoke as she placed her slice of pizza down, while Link had already taken a bite. He was guessing a silent shroom that grew below the hill, under his house. One with flowers planted by Rhondson upon Link’s purchasing of his home.
“Hmm?” He muffled, while chewing up the pizza in his mouth.
Zelda chuckled as she took a bite as well, giving the pizza a try. “Hmm!” She hummed in joy along with Link. Both hummed in joy of the pizza momentarily, before she continued. With swallowing her food first. “Well, Ting will be able to take us indeed with him to Terma, but…”
“Hm?” Link took a sip of water, asking Zelda to continue.
“It seems that getting into Terma and back won’t be an issue, but according to Ting. Well it looks like we might have to spend about a month until we are able to return to Hyrule again.” She took another bite, watching as Link continued to eat his. Contemplating all he will have to be sure to bring along with him.
“Mhm?” He responded towards her as she finished her third bite.
“If you still feel like going to Terma, then once we are finished. Ting had told me that we just needed to meet him at Terry Port.” Once stood old ruins, but with the extinguishing of the monsters that flooded them. Hudson Construction quickly demolished the ruins, with permission from Princess Zelda. Thus Terry Port was created, with the newly formed Knights run by Hoz. Guarded the port on regular patrols. Despite the monsters not appearing as they used to since the blood moon vanished upon the defeat of the ancient Ganondorf. However their strategic attacks and raids on travelers have improved. With words spreading amongst Depths Construction workers, Monster Villages were spotted forming down in the old mines. Causing many Construct Stewarts to abandon their positioning, with the aid of some of the workers trying to preserve the constructs. In honor of the previous Sage of Spirit and late friend of Princess Zelda. Some had to be reprogrammed by Robbie to get some to accept new tasks, with one being the Dock Manager. Taking inventory of merchant ships and visitors at the dock, with Hudson naming the construct Stewartson.
Taking another bite, Link let out an approval grunt. “Mhmph.”
Zelda smiled as they continued their meal, but as they finished their pizza. Both were too full to slice into the baked Fruit cake that sat on the table. Zelda, still wanting a piece, stared at the cake for a while, but as she was about to reach for her knife. Link lifted up the cake, before placing inside a wicker basket.
“Good idea, it will make a nice treat while we are traveling to Terma.” She smiled, before she stood up to clean up the table. After clearing the table and cleaning the kitchen, both of them began preparing for their trip. “I’m sure Grateson will take care of Zelli and Petal while we're away.”
“Mm.” Link nodded his head, with a smile on his face. With the ocarina still holstered to his hip, and the master sword sheath on his back. Link gathered up his stash of rupees from within his desk. Inside Link noticed a dried Sundelion, one he picked from Sonia’s grave with Rauru’s hand. Despite Rauru using the last of his power to heal Link’s body from the gloom that plagued his body, Link couldn’t find himself to part with the flower.
“Link!” Zelda hollered towards Link, with her carrying a bag on her back, excitement covered her face. “I’ve gathered up all the needed materials I think we’ll need. Are you ready?”
Link pushed the draw on his desk shut, after closing the flower back within the book. Pulling on his back pouch, along with his rupees, Link dashed down the stairs.
“Bye, Carp!” Zelda hollered once more, with a splash heard from above. Both of them left the house.
Part Four End.

[Maybe controversial thoughts ahoy? Just a general thought I've been stewing on now that I've been done with TotK for a minute now.]
I think the reason I have trouble outright saying I love the story of BotW/TotK and even SS to a degree is because I feel like they've made the story too black and white. And yes, I know that Zelda games have always been the fight of "good vs evil" but...any chance for any kind of nuance within that gets completely blanketed into basically this person is bad and this one is good and there is no further implication or exploration into it. And maybe this is just me getting old because this is my complaint with other series, too. But I crave even just a little bit of a peek into the gray areas they're presenting us with, but we just never get it. Instead, we're basically just spoon-fed the idea that the "good guys" can do no wrong and the "bad guys" are fully unjustified in their actions because the good guys are peerless with no background on any of it, even if there is perfect set up for SOMETHING.
Like one example is one I discussed with a friend last night about apparently the Rauru hate going around. And let me preface this with I don't hate Rauru. There's not enough context and information for me to hate Rauru for the reasons the haters are pointing to. He's fine. But here's sort of my takeaway from that discussion: you can't write what apparently happened between Hyrule and the Gerudo as a black and white narrative of good vs evil because it's very likely a political matter which is very much ALWAYS more gray and complicated. While I'm not ruling out the idea of Ganondorf just being Ganondorf and throwing a hissy fit, I'm willing to bet there are WAY more political implications to it than that. It's likely a very gray, diplomatic matter where both sides had their reasoning and grievances for what they did. Like it's suggested Rauru tries to get the Gerudo on board a few times. Which maybe was innocent enough, but might have looked like him trying to rob them of their sovereignty to the Gerudo, and if he went to them more than once after they already refused, of course that would be irritating. But like...it's literally about perspective. In the eyes of the Gerudo, Rauru and this new country probably looked evil. To Rauru and co., the Gerudo looked evil, especially after they retaliated to what they saw as reasonable attempts to I assume unify the country. Both sides felt they were correct in their actions. But because of the perspective we're seeing the memories from (even though I don't think that can be argued because, if these are Zelda's memories, how do we get the ones like the one where Ganondorf takes note of the Secret Stones which is in itself goofy but I've mentioned that before), Ganondorf and the Gerudo are painted as evil. And not JUST because of that since, as I mentioned, that makes no sense with the premise of the memories, he's just SHOWN to be evil from the get go. Or to at least have some unsavory ambitions concerning some stones he should have no knowledge of anyway.
And to the same effect, they go through some backbreaking efforts to make sure the "good guys" can't be questioned on their own gray morality or decisions. We get no context outside of maybe how the Geruro react (maybe) to the Zonai descending from the sky to become joint rulers of the land. We're lead to believe everyone was just okay with this arrangement and Rauru and Sonia are well-loved as monarchs. Which okay fine but it feels very questionable and outlandish, especially when the Gerudo are at least apparently not okay with it. Even with Zelda, there isn't a bad word said about her, even when she's running around telling people to fight monsters in their underwear, insisting they don't research a specific ruin, and generally wreaking havoc among the citizens of Hyrule (yes i know that isnt her but the point is thr characters don't). She is portrayed as an absolutely perfect human even before the upheaval with all the tidbits you get about her doings around Hyrule and rebuilding. Which is great, don't get me wrong. I'm glad to see she has matured and was very invested in rebuilding the country. I have nothing against Zelda as a character. I'm speaking to the implications of the writing as it once again glosses over any gray area she might have (which they didn't do in botw BTW and that was SO GOOD to see her just...be human) and making her just....too perfect right alongside the rest of Hyrule's monarchy portrayed in this game. And I understand we're dealing in a lot of gods and god-like characters, but, even though they're LIGHTLY suggested to be flawed, it really gets glossed over, muddled, or just not addressed. And I think this is very purposeful to ensure that the narrative they want to share is maintained, even if there are some pretty glaring inconsistencies at time when you look through the cracks that are there.
Tl;dr: basically, I feel like there is a lot of gray area stuff that gets made completely black and white because od how the writers portrayed certain characters, how they chose to frame certain scenes, and the overall inconsistency of how they handle story elements just makes the story less interesting. It's fine. And they definitely did better in this game with story overall. But removing all the potential nuance and going hard on a black and white story is just meh to me.]

All reposts will be reported swiftly without warning (and with extra ire if my signature is removed). If you find my art on an account that is not this one or any of the steohsama handles, I would be very grateful if you informed me! (...so I can slap a DMCA report on it)
May I translate your work?
Please ask first (though be warned, I'm likely to say no.)
Where did you learn to draw/how long have you been drawing?
I'm self-taught through visual osmosis of my favorite mangaka and other artists. My first memories of doodling (all I did was illustrate horse girls in horse books lol) is probably almost 20 years ago now.
What do you use to draw?
Primarily an Intuos 4 with Clip Studio Paint. I highly recommend CSP! When I'm on the go, I have an affair with my iPad Air.
What kind of art can I expect from you?
I like to draw fun and fluffy ideas for the most part. Usually it's some whimsical AU where the entire cast of a series is impossibly alive and interacting in interesting ways (this is mostly to staunch the pain of canon lol).
🔞 There is occasional spicy content, so be warned! I do tag it as 'nsfw' or 'slight nsfw'.
FANDOMS & INTERESTS
What are your current interests?
I have reawakened my roots in Katekyo Hitman Reborn...
Will you draw [FANDOM] again?
Depends on my mood...rest assured, I probably still love those series dearly. Except book fan art. Sorry...
Do you have OCs?
YES I DO. I hope to share more about them in the future! Feel free to browse this moment or the Houseki tag.
Fandom list?
Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Spy x Family, Psycho-Pass, Naruto, Legend of Zelda BOTW/TOTK, FMA Brotherhood, Unlimited Blade Works, Kuroko no Basuke, and Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro.

It's been less than 24 hours and I already have so many thoughts and ideas for this AU.
-Not that linearity matters, but if it'll fit anywhere within the series it's certainly pre-SS. The vibes are whatever is going on in those romantic era greco-roman paintings, because I'm so so sooo weak to the aesthetic.
-Hylia is a goddess in the roman sense in this AU, and I'm going along with the BOTW separation of Zelda and Hylia b/c it feels right.
-Zelda is a 20 something year old, venturing out on her own for the first time. She plans on becoming a priestess for the cult of Hylia so that she can stay in her hometown instead of marrying else where.
-Just for me, but the other cult members are also recognizably Zelda from other games, just not in name. (I should be allowed to have a multi-zelda AU)
-Link is her younger brother, they live with their great aunt as both their parents died shortly after Link was born.
-Upon arrival at Hylia's shrine, she's greeted by the goddess herself in disguise, who then offers Zelda a role within the shrine. To Zelda's surprise -- but not displeasure -- she finds herself as one of Hylia's concubines, quickly becoming her favourite among the other girls.
-Hylia is married to Demise, but they have like a separate beds/separate houses sort of marriage. It's horribly dysfunctional.
-Zelda and Hylia have a contentious relationship, but it works for them both. Plus, Zelda does get to continue supporting Link and her auntie, so that's also a bonus.
-Also its a Cupid & Psyche-esque situation, where she's whisked away to an alternative dimension where she gets her own room and everything she's ever wanted. Though, she's able to return home whenever she feels like it...Inuyasha style.

Have you played Tears of the Kingdom yet? If so, what are your thoughts?
YEA I DID (haven’t finished it yet tho)
-> this ask keeps getting postponed because when it came in I just started playing for a few days and made a list of some highlights but then I found more stuff while playing and it got longer, and longer…so
TDLR
game good, I keep getting distracted by EVERYTHING, Rauru >>>> Rhoam, I like how they changed all the things that would’ve been deliberately sought out by returning players like the towns or Satori yet kept the rest the same enough to not feel alienating, Zelda‘s voice actor did not need to go that hard on the blood moon clip (though I‘m not playing with English dub since dubs are generally pretty good here which is nice :3)
Also here’s the list:
I miss my ice module anon. I miss her a lot
Also one of the new enemies gave me a total jumpscare. Like, an actual jumpscare, I was just walking around some random cave collecting stuff and then BAM. NIGHTMARE FUEL. They did not have to bring deadhand back like THAT man ;-;
LOVE the new towers, it’s such a cool way to see stuff and travel fast
Not sure if I should hate or love the fire temple- on one hand, the intended way seems convoluted af and I could not understand where I‘m supposed to go with the carts for the love of me- on the other hand, there’s so many ways to go through this dungeon on your own
Surprisingly did not run into any Redeads yet despite doing a good chunk of the maps and 3 dungeons but it can stay that way NVM I FOUND THEM. OH HECK NO.
Whoever decided one of the most horrible enemies of the entire series should be reimagined from undead corpses to the insects feasting on said undead corpses is both an utter genius and I hope they get cursed for the horrors they unleashed upon the world
Also unlike the promo art Gdorf isn’t green in the scenes I’ve seen so far which is…interesting- is that smth they did with the other versions too, and greendorf was just nostalgia bait? Is it censoring? The green just a side effect of the evil goo I haven’t seen yet? All of it?
Speaking of I THINK I JUST FOUND THE FRICKIN OOT SPIRIT TEMPLE!??? I‘d recognize that main room with the stupid middle light anywhere, took me WAY too long to figure out how to get on the middle platform-
Can’t wait to jump into a well and get jumpscared by the goo hands =)
Between Rauru‘s name, the temples, and the whole thing with Ganondorf essentially being the first part of oot all over again there’s lots of ocarinas here for something that mostly referenced skyward sword so far-
RIP Wolf Link,at least even in the Sacred Realm he still gets to hunt and bring insane amounts of meat to Link :(
Where is Kass. Seriously where is he. I didn’t find him on the road or in Rito village is he ok-
F to the Sages of Shadow, apparently they got fired
BOTW DLC ITEMS IN BASE GAME LETS GOOOOOOO
Also the details that‘re here because of botw, like NPC’s recognizing Link or that one town existing, paints a really interesting picture of the "canon“ botw run: mainly that Link did most shrines, talked to every main quest npc, helped with the town, saved his house from destruction and gave it to Zelda (or they took SO long to demolish that Zelda could buy it herself, but the first one‘s cuter)
but also that Link never talked to any other non-important npcs, and that he did the whole thing without buying a single piece of clothing other than the Hyrule set. My man did the entirely of death mountain and the desert purely by chugging potions and eating food. (And a vai outfit lying around somewhere or sold, presumably. So weird that you can sell clothing, does anyone actually do that? They’re so expensive to buy)

BOTW Rito Devblog (Part 2)
This is the 2nd part of a 4-part series. Hit that "Rito Art Devblog" tag to find the other parts.
We left off in Part 1 with a smooth cube that serves as the base from which we can extrude arms, legs, head (and later tail). I chose to start with the legs first for a few reasons:
They are more simply-shaped than the arm-wings, and have less detail than the face - which would require a unique texture;
Completing the legs will help ground the model and give it a better sense of scale; and
Working on the legs will not require significant changes to the base torso cube and mess up the planned placement for the arms and head.
3. Extrude legs
Tumblr media
Leg lumps extruded from the torso
When shaping the torso earlier, we anticipated where the legs would come out from the body. Using front and side orthogonal views as guides, we could anticipate the placement of faces from which we could extrude (shortcut E) leg-lumps that can then be shaped into the rough profile of the legs.
As with shaping the torso, we don't want to overburden ourselves with a ton of vertices at this stage - so it's important to find a sweet-spot to extrude from that allows a face count just high enough to shape the profile of the legs. For this model, the legs were extruded from a 4x3 square area of faces at the base of the torso, that would eventually be rounded out when smoothing out the topology.
Tumblr media
The leg hole
We extrude the leg outwards, adding small rotations to make the general shape of the leg. Rather than extruding it all at once and then shaping it into place, we make one small extrusion to get the leg out from the torso, 3-4 incremental extrusions that we scale and rotate to make the top bulge of the leg, then 2 extrusions to finish off what will later become the foot.
Once we have a rough shape, we repeat the same process we did with the torso - adding loop cuts sparingly to refine the shape and detail. Two areas in particular are worth our attention. First, smoothing out the connection between the leg and torso to give it a nice curve. Second, and as we can see in the references, the tops of Teba's legs bulge outwards and then back in, ending in cuffs before the calves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Loop cut cuffs
Adding a pair of loop cuts above and below the cuff and scaling them down (shortcut: S) creates this little dent in the topology pretty well. These also come in handy for making seams for texturing - since the calf is a different color than the thighs, and the feet a different color than the calves.
Tumblr media
Basic feet and talon toes
I've been caught unprepared pretty often (spoiler: and will again when making the arms) not giving myself enough topology to extrude mid-level detail like talons. This is why it was important to consider the amount of vertices we were working with when extruding the leg lump earlier, so as to avoid making additional cuts that mess up the mesh. Luckily, Teba only has 3 toes - two in the front, one in the back - so we have a lot of room to work with from our original 12-edge extrusion. We extrude the toes and give them basic shape - leaving the final details like claws or the misc rings til the very end.
4. A word about seams
Tumblr media
The red line is a seam
Seams divide the mesh into separate segments when unwrapping the mesh into a flat shape for texturing. It helps to imagine a papercraft cube:
Tumblr media
In order to unwrap the cube into a flat shape that maintains the cube's proportions, it needs seams along certain edges which can be cut and unwrapped into a cross shape:
Tumblr media
At some point in the modeling process, we will need to flatten out our mesh so we can put a texture on it. To make sure that this looks nice, we want to make sure that seams are put in places where:
They separate areas with clear and distinct looks (such as splitting the leg into: thigh/calf/foot)
They are not noticeable (such as hidden under clothing, or folded into the cuff of the leg)
They allow for a clean unwrap that maintains proportions and makes it easy to texture/paint.
All that to say that, by the time we are finished shaping the leg, we have three seams that separate the shape into distinct parts
Tumblr media
Leg segmented by seams
This way, when we unwrap the mesh later, the faces that make up the foot, calf, thigh, and torso will all be separated (into "islands", as they are called) and easier to color.
Tumblr media
Leg islands
Since we intend to use a pretty simple gradient texture for the body, and solid colors for the feet, simple seams like this are enough. For a more detailed look, we could also split the mesh lengthwise to unwrap the model further. Think: splitting a paper tube by cutting down its length and unrolling it flat. This would be ideal if we were doing some higher detail painting, as we will see when we paint the arms.
Next time: the head and arms

Gen 9 is actually my favorite gen so far and I feel so conflicted about it becuase it’s fun but it’s also objectively buggy and full of missed opportunities. Like it’s a lot of fun but it’s easy to get why it’s not liked. :l
Honestly I don't care about the bugs, they're annoying and shouldn't be there but besides the unacceptable crashing none of them are game breaking to me.
I do like a lot of Gen 9, but my main complaint with them is how incredibly unoriginal they are. It's just another game desperately trying to be Breath of the Wild again. Some games are good despite this; take Genshin Impact, which understood both a) the essence of BotW and b) how to improve upon those elements and mesh them with the existing concept they already had. The result is, gacha aside, a really good game, at least in terms of evaluating it within the genre.
Everyone is praising SV for being fresh takes on the series, and while they are to an extent, they also aren't, to another extent. They're very similarly structured to the Gen 1 games, and add very little beyond a modern(ish) coat of paint and scale increase. Rather than try to mesh the essences of the formulae they had to work with, they just defaulted to the most barebones concepts they could get, possibly due to a rushed development cycle like everyone likes to speculate, but also possibly due to just this being the idea all along.
The fact that the exact locations and typings of all the objectives are thrown at you as soon as you begin the quests is one of the biggest examples of this in my opinion. Like, you know the titan enemies or whatever in BotW? The entire point of those was just walking around in the woods and then suddenly, out of nowhere comes this giant cyclops skeleton. The rush of discovery combined with the thrill of the incoming fight makes them memorable and fun things to find and look for.
But if everything is given to you right away what's the point? If I know exactly where they are, and also by process of elimination usually what they look like, it's just a chore. It's also lore breaking to an extent (what do you mean you can't find the titans, Arven? There's literally an app for that), but no one cares about that except me.
At the end of the day I feel the way about Gen 9 the way I do about almost every modern game nowadays. Not necessarily bad, but I'm keenly aware that the main reasons I like it are because it just copied an existing property/ies that I already liked.

8. what's an old project idea that you've lost interest in
nervous laughter,,, i have so many of these but i guess the least embarrassing one is an acrylic painting series i started a few years ago. i had gotten a bunch of 8x10? canvas panels on sale and wanted to paint all of the memories from botw. i only have two done and every time i want to work on the next one, i push it off until later. technically, i haven't lost interest in it then, but it is something i keep procrastinating hehe,,, (someone please keep me accountable)

30. what piece of yours do you think is underrated
this piece. it's one of the drawings i'm still proudest of and i was surprised it got less notes in comparison to my other chiluc week art. don't get me wrong; i'm still grateful for the attention it did receive!! i just had higher expectations for this one ^^;;

I feel like ppl who say botw has a bad soundtrack (or at least one that isn't as good as other installations of the series) aren't taking the context of it into account. Big punchy bangers everywhere wouldn't be appropriate for a game that is themed around taking the time to explore a quiet world that has moved on from the hustle and bustle it used to have before civilization all but collapsed. The softer, more atmospheric music found in many places of the world help paint this picture, and when the music starts to get more dramatic or more noticeable even, you can tell that it's for a reason, whether that is to make a place or person stand out against the rest or to mark a moment as memorable. If botw had a soundtrack like oot, it would feel so out of place! It would change the tone of the whole game! Quiet, atmospheric music isn't for everyone, but that doesn't make it bad by any means

Games I Played in 2023
1. Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Tumblr media
I loooooooooovvvvvveeed this game, lol. And maybe it was because I played BoTW last year, but it was so nice to hop back into a new adventure in Hyrule where the settings and the world were familiar, but also so different, it was great. It also was cool to see all the characters grow and where they were at in their lives. I mean when you start off annoyed at seeing Addison, but then when you find him randomly late in the game, it's like "Addison!" that tells you, you've done something right. But I also loved the introduced mechanics and the team aspect that Link had in this game. Also I loved that I spent 90% of the game going, "Zelda, give me back my sword!" to the end where I was like "OH MY GOD! LET ME CATCH HER!" because the story was just that beautiful and that rich. Fantastic game!
2. Opus: Echoes of Starsong
Tumblr media
I have never bawled at the end of a video game as much as I did with this game. It's a mostly text based story game where you control the dialogue and the actions (plus there were puzzles), but ultimately, you make the ending happen. And its heartbreakingly beautiful. The friendship between Jun and Eda is incredibly rich and painful. Both who have been outcast into the world and are trying to survive and save the people they care about. And ultimately that drive is so hard to let go of that is why it was so captivating to watch and get lost in.
3. Assassin's Creed 3
Tumblr media
It was hard to lose Ezio Auditore, but meeting Ratonhnhaké:ton (aka Connor Kennway) was a good reset to the series. Connor isn't a playboy or joker, but his drive for justice not only for others but for his people hit a lot deeper. And I loved seeing the game explore both the good and bad about my country's history. Plus I like the way they painted our founding fathers as not the heroes they always were. They were flawed, like everyone is and they did both great and terrible things. Also, I have never hated someone as much as Connor's father, so thank god after the twist beginning you do get to get revenge on Haytham.
4. Assassin's Creed Revelations
Tumblr media
It was both fun and sad to play this game, knowing that we were going to be saying goodbye to Ezio Auditore. But honestly, I'm impressed that even he got older, he could still climb and jump off buildings, lol. It was interesting too to see him so separated from all the characters we've known to be a part of his story. But Instanbul was a cool setting and that was fun to explore. I liked the tie ins to him discovering more about Altair's story, but then that ending scene man.... RIP Ezio. You deserve it.
5. Opus: Rocket of Whispers
Tumblr media
This was the second game by SIGONO and it was a completely different world to step into. We meet John who is the only survivor of his town after a deadly plague takes hold. He thinks he is all alone, haunted by the whispers of those that have died, but then he meets Fei. She's the last surviving witch who was saved when she was young to try and help bring peace by building the final rocket and sending it to space. The two take time to learn about each other, and it's rocky, but they also help to accomplish this task and find meaning again in their lives.
6. Assassin's Creed Liberation
Tumblr media
The first female assassin! I absolutely adored Aveline de Gradnpé because she's fearless, but also super feminine. It was cool too to switch between her different personas of being a lady to assassin, and even her undercover disguise as a slave. I wish the story had been a little more fleshed out because I thought it was interesting that after being born from her former slave mother and white rich merchant father that she was well cared for. But the twist at the end didn't hit as hard as I felt it could have. But I do know this was a PSP port, so it couldn't do what the full games could. It also made the gameplay way jankier than even my gripes with AC3. Still I liked exploring 1770s Louisiana and can't wait to play as more badass women.
7. Opus: The Day We Found Earth
Tumblr media
This was the first SIGONO game made and first one I played so it's not as fleshed out as the others, but its still cute and tragic... You play as Emeth, a robot on a spaceship who is trying to find his creator, a scientist named Lisa, who was studying Earth because the end goal of the mission was to find and get to Earth. As simple as a premise and as a short of a game, it was a really beautiful story to tell and it made you wonder, how humanity got to the stars and why were they trying to get back. I also love Emeth and how impatient he is, but also adorable which is why there's a cameo in Starsong where you can find him which made my day.
8. Ring Fit Adventure
Tumblr media
I needed something to spice up my workout last winter when I was bored of walking around my house for an hour everyday, lol. And this game is great! I had a Wii Fit back in the day and used it regularly, but it doesn't have anything on the level of intensity this game can bring. There were a couple days where I sore after an hour session. My only thing is I don't feel its a good daily workout. Mostly because the story part of it, doesn't make me feel balanced in the exercises that I'm doing. Still its fun to do from time to time.
