Horde Glimmer AU

Today prompt is Role Swap and I want to talk about The Dark Princess, my Horde Glimmer AU (where she and Catra are swapped) because, while I have posted some one shots in that AU, I have a ton more half written that I would love to post someday.

These are...

a twist on Ties that Bind where Catra and Bow accidentally kidnap Glimmer and Bow is trying to keep Catra from killing the evil sorceress while Glimmer chaotically flirting with both of them

Battle of Bright Moon where Bow deliberately tries to sacrifice himself to distract Glimmer (knowing she's weird about him) to give the others a chance to protect to the moonstone and accidentally finds out how much Shadow Weaver is torturing and manipulating her

the biggest section (which would def have to be a multi-chapter) starting with the portal (where the portal reality would basically be canon-verse). Without going into too many details, Glimmer tries to do the right thing, Angella survives the portal but only barely, Bow saves half-dead Glimmer from Hordak against his better judgement and the rebellion's orders, Glimmer turns herself into the rebellion so they don't know Bow helped her, Bow convinces Castaspella to let She-Ra heal Glimmer so she can try to save Angella against literally everyone's best judgement, in the power vacuum without Angella the rebellion succumbs to corruption, Catra and Glimmer clash over Bow (who is Catra's brother), Bow thinks Glimmer is brainwashing him (she isn't, he's just falling for her), Catra does not want the evil Horde sorceress lady seducing her brother thanks, Glimmer connects to the moonstone at the worst possible time, Castaspella actually gets real plot things to do instead of just being a side character.

Bow corruption arc! Juliet villain era! Catra being protective of her non-magic brother! Glimmer with badass smoke wings she can summon at will! No one knows what side anyone is on anymore! Meanwhile Catra and Adora get to be cute "it's required, they are just idiot" doofuses, while Glimbow get to have a messy toxic dynamic as a treat.

Anyway, I don't know if I will ever have a chance to write all of this but I do have a bunch of random scenes I might still post someday if not the whole thing.

Do you think Bow never felt unplatonic feelings towards Adora due to his gaydar?

This is a really interesting question and one my buddies and I have talked about before.

Basically, I cannot see Bow ever having feelings for Adora at all. Maybe because of gaydar or because the first time he meets her she's such a mess he's like, "Wow, OK, someone needs to care about this disaster girl so... free sister!"

But this came up because we were joking that if Bow likes Glimmer and Glimmer and Catra are very similar people, might he have theoretically been attracted to Catra at some point? And I guess it's technically possible, but I just cannot see that at all!

If you want an in-universe for why Bow never thought about Catra that way either, I would say because even though Catra and Glimmer are similar, Bow's somewhat black and white view of good guy vs bad guy (especially in the early seasons) would kind of prejudice him against Catra, make him think about her more negatively. And then, by the time he knows her better, he already knows he's in love with Glimmer and that Adora and Catra are in love with each other so it doesn't even blip on his radar as an option because he's already categorized her as another free sister.

Whew! It's always such a weird feeling to finish a fic you've been working on for a long time.

Friends, thank you so much for joining me for what is, to date, my longest fic! (At the time of my writing this, it’s also a mere 154 hits away from overtaking Cans of Tuna and Redemption Arcs as my most popular fic!)

I do have another adventure planned for The B Team (as eluded to the last chapter) but it’ll have to wait until I finish some of my other in progress fics first.

My next big BFS fic, The Outlaws of the Whispering Woods (aka my dystopian Robin Hood take on Season 5), will be coming soon. I was going to put it out as part of Glimbow Week next week (which I'm modding) but decided instead to hold it until that week is over to make my life slightly easier.
