Hello! Do you know what TTRPGs are out there for playing as members of a stereotypical western boyband? (With roles like ‘the brooding one’, ‘the sunshine one’, etc.)
THEME: Boyband RPGs
Hello, I found some games that are within the realm of playing a western boyband, but some of them might need some tweaking to get exactly what you're looking for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
High-Speed Boar-Band, by garvoy.
You are Teenagers. You have a Band. You have a Van. Tonight is your first ever Battle of the Bands! Also, you are Boars.
Ninja Turtles meets Scott Pilgrim, High Speed Boar-Band combines everything that's terrible about being a teenager with everything that's great about being a Boar.  A One-Shot, One-Page TTRPG for 1-8 Players and a GM.
This is less about a western boyband and more about being teenagers trying to make it big, but it does give you some archetypes to play into, called Boarsornalities!. These include options such as Casanova, Wallflower, and Burnout. Your obstacles come in the form of police, family members, inter-band drama, and other bands. This game certainly lives up to its name - character creation looks sleek, requiring only a few dice rolls before you’re ready to go. The game is also divided into acts, so you’ll know exactly what you’re doing after each scene.
Limelight, by Session One Studios.
Limelight is a game where you play high school students who started a band. Can you balance your home, schoolwork, job and personal obligations and issues with life in a shitty band? Will you burn out, fade away or make it big-time?
Another high school band ttrpg, this game is more down-to-earth. You don’t have any special powers, and you’re just regular high-school students; but you have to find a way to balance all of the responsibilities of a teenager while also pursuing your dream. There are ten character types to choose from, as well as pre-generated characters if you want to get to playing as fast as possible. This game is an ashcan, so don’t expect perfection - hopefully the designers have more coming out soon!
Fantasy Boy Band, by AuContraire.
You play as bards in an unnamed generic fantasy land. The job market has been difficult and it turns out that there is even not that many jobs for artists. And this is how your adventure starts - instead of falling into despair -  you and your friends from the Arts and Poetry Academy decided to form a boy band to finally achieve your well-deserved fame! You are the first ever boy band in those lands! Navigate through blood-sucking managers, the lacking equipment in villages lost in the middle of nowhere, people misunderstanding your art, fans in love and more!
This is a resource-management game that’s just one page. This game does have the different roles that you’re looking for - the shy one, the romantic one, and the bad boy, for example. You’ll deal with problems like the manager from hell, rival boy bands, and literal dragons. Your biggest obstacle is money: you need to be able to afford to get to your next gig with all of your stuff intact. If you want to play a stereotypical boy band but in a fantasy setting, this game is for you.
Sing As One! by Naomi Norbez.
Sing As One! is a TTRPG about being a singer in an up-and-coming group of young superstars.  All of you came from different paths of life, and have varied ambitions & goals, but are coming together in your quest to make music!
This game is more targeted to replicate bands found in anime, so expect a game that’s more about helping you write a narrative, rather than replicating what it means to be an entertainer. Your character has two actions: I Want and Show Off. I Want actions are rolls that you make against a set difficulty, because your character is interacting with the world. Show Offs are contested rolls, rolls against opponents with their own skills. Show Offs happen in this game’s version of a battle, except you’ll likely be competing against rival bands or trying to escape rabid fans. If you want a game about dealing with the life of a star, Sing As One might be for you!

The writers of the song were Swedish and that's how they say "me". The emphasis JT puts on it is to make it sound "meaner", according to himself and the songwriters. What sounded like it's gonna be May turned out to be a meme everyone reposts on April 30th.

Boyband History
youtube
A lot of facets about boybands and how those shaped and impacted One Direction, their images and marketing.
Key thing here: all of this was *before* 1D so Simon Cowell had the knowledge and time to perfect the things that "didn't work" for Nsync and Backstreet Boys.

Episode 178: Kaitlyn Tiffany
In Episode 178, Flourish and Elizabeth sit down with Kaitlyn Tiffany, an internet culture reporter at The Atlantic and the author of the book Everything I Need I Get from You: How Fangirls Created the Internet as We Know It. They talk about One Direction—the source of the book’s title and one of its central subjects—and Kaitlyn’s journey from 1D fan to covering fandom in the mainstream press, touching on ideas about writing for different audiences, personal versus collective perceptions of fannish conversations, and the dangers of credulity when writing about online subcultures.

I think I'm gonna write an essay about boybands and their stereotypes and how it kinda "shapes" personalities of mostly young girls according to their preferences
Here's the ones that comes to my mind:
The Mysterious One;
The "Bad Boy";
The Cute One;
The Funny One;
The Romantic/Ladies Man One;
The "Dad"/Captain One;
The Rebel One;
The Shy One;
Am I missing some? Probably yes. Some of these can be intertwined, depending on the case? Yes.
I'm thinking and trying to associate with all the boybands I like (yeah, yeah, I know it's a lot), but feel free to reblog and add more stereotypes. Also, feel free to write examples, like "Gary Barlow was Take That's 'dad'" (yeah yeah Captain Barlow, I know that)
Maybe some of them won't follow this rule, but I want to see your point, ppl, let's debate
Please and thank you ♥

So I came across this specfic tweet of an amazing twitter thread with great info [you should read].
https://twitter.com/TotallyLost4You/status/1093232740714061824?t=TrKPl3rveK-qwM9VAwdFfg&s=19
So another major boyband who has a member that came out as gay [his gross ass ex beard outed him] recently made it known they just got married to their long term boyfriend.
Almost every major american or british 90s to 2010s boyband has had a member come out as gay.
New kids on the block - gay member
Jonathan the member who came out recently said him and his partner Harley have been together since 2008 it's now 2022. Damn a long term hidden gay relationship is possible within the music industry especially amongst boyband noted.
Nsync - gay member
Lance the member who came out specifically said "statistically speaking one of the members of 1D is gay [but] the market is 100 percent young women and they fantasize about these [1D] guys" so left unsaid they reminded closeted. Lance went on to say he felt like he had his friends career in his hands and in charge of the band thought him coming out would ruin the band. So Lance didn't come out until way later and during nsync days he was shown as the womanizer of his group with a new women on his arm often sound VERY filmiliar.
Union J - gay member
This band was on the xfactor and George the member who came out said in an interview “bc of the situation I was in – in the public eye selling records aimed at young girls – I feel like I was made to believe, and made to think, because of the things I was being told and the way I was conditioned, that it would’ve jeopardised the band’s career and in turn jeopardise my own career.” Something VERY similar to what Lance said and former xfactor performer being closeted we haven't heard that one before.
Westlife - gay member
This band was run by Cowbell with Feehily the member who came out having kept his sexual orination private all throughout peak fame and never discussed hus private life even tho he had "public gfs" sound VERY familiar.
The Wanted - A member openly admitted the wanted were willing to have gay sex when asked
That was Jay but Tom another member stated speak for yourself so was it just Jay's subtle way in a "joking matter" to admit he would ??? On top of this one of the member made a side comment once that yeah one of the 1D boys is probably gay.
I'm probably missing some but these are ones I specfically know off. And all these offically out members of popular UK or US boybands have talked about the same thing. How being in a boyband meant being treated like shit and believing based on what they were told if they came out as gay it would ruin the bands career so they hid their true self.
This shows it's not crazy for us to think one or more of the 1D boys is gay when so many major boybands have had a member come out and even said yeah 1D most likely had a gay member !!

My few concert experiences
My few concert experiences
Photo by Sebastian Ervi on Pexels.com I wanted to go to a concert when I was a teenager in the 1990s, but my mother didn’t let me. At the time, foreign bands didn’t come to Finland that often. You had to travel to Stockholm, Sweden. But sometimes, they did, which was great. The American boyband, New kids on the block, was the first band I wanted to see live in concert. Perhaps the tickets were…

Shuffle your favorite playlist and post the first five songs that come up. Then copy/paste this ask to your favorite mutuals. 💌🩷
Oh! Fun! My main playlist is just every song on my PC with a 4*+ rating - but the first song that came up was one of mine that I recorded like 15 years ago lmao so I'm going to switch to my playlist called "Actual Mine Good"
Beat Again - JLS (lol great start)
Euphoria - What is Echo? (an old YouTube band that I cannot find a trace of anywhere)
Jet Pack Blues - Fall Out Boy
Since U Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson
Fool Again - Westlife
Look. This is a biased selection. But you know what, fair.
