All The Pretty Star's Shine For You
Kaiyo had brought Nahida to Inazuma to show her around. He hadn't been there properly in so long and Nahida had suggested that it may be good for him to try to connect to his culture. He hadn't been able to before, really.
He had spent the day taking Nahida around the city, and right now they sat in the Komore Teahouse for dinner.
Kaiyo was feeling rather emotional, though. The whole day he had been telling Nahida all sorts of things that he knew about Inazuman culture, and he had even been getting to speak to her in Inazuman.
The whole day Nahida let him ramble. Anything that he wanted to say, he said and she listened. She listened to every word and enjoyed every second. To her, Kaiyo was beginning to mean the world.
"Nahida," Kaiyo asked over the table as the Archon picked at the food they'd ordered. She looked up, a smile on her face. "You trust me so much..."
The puppet almost sounded sad when he said this. His voice was quiet and a little raspy, and he sounded like he could cry.
"After everything, why do you trust me?"
Nahida found his question strange. Why wouldn't she trust him?
Yes, he was Fatui. And yes, he had tried to become a God. But that wasn't the Kaiyo that sat in front of her. That was the Kaiyo that hadn't ever been accepted by somebody. That was the Kaiyo that was manipulated and abused by his fellow Fatuus.
"Because you're not going to do anything bad, Kaiyo." Was her simple answer.
"But how do you know?" His question was so genuine. He really wanted to know, and it hurt Nahida's heart to hear him genuinely concerned about this.
"I could do anything, I could be using you... Why do you trust my intentions?"
Nahida just shrugged. Her reasoning would take too long, and they were supposed to be enjoying their dinner.
"I don't think you want to hurt me, Kaiyo. I don't think you ever really wanted to hurt anyone."
And she truly believed that. She really didn't think that Kaiyō was a bad person. Ever since he had cleared himself from Irminsul he had been so sweet. He had put himself out into public and he has offered to help them and expected nothing back. He had helped Nahida whenever he could, and he had done the same to Aether.
In her eyes, somebody so selfless couldn't be a bad person. As sarcastic of a persona Kaiyo used, underneath Nahida knew he was a sweet man. A troubled kid who just needed to be loved.
"How about you come sit beside me?" Nahida asked, and Kaiyo nodded a bit. He had no reason to say no.
He shuffled away from the table, then joined Nahida and sat beside her. He left a small gap between them, and rested his hands on his lap.
"I think you are wonderful, Kaiyo." Nahida placed her hands over one of Kaiyo's, and she kept her tone hushed. She could feel as Kaiyo tightened his hand into a fist.
This didn't scare Nahida, and she didn't move away. She didn't think this was violence.
"When I see you, I don't think of an ex-harbinger. I don't see an evil man, or somebody that preys on others."
"You don't?" Kaiyo's voice cracked as he asked his question and Nahida knew that he was about to cry. She looked to his face, and in his eyes were tears that threatened to spill over his face.
"No, I don't. And I don't see a weapon either. Or something to toy with. I see you."
Nahida had no idea how much on an impact that last sentence alone would have on Kaiyō.
I see you.
The sentence broke whatever barrier was holding Kaiyō's tears back and he began to let out choked sobs. Nahida guided him closer, so that he was leaning on her, and wrapped her arms around him.
"You're okay," She said gently as Kaiyo returned her embrace. She lifted a hand to pet his back comfortingly as he sobbed into her dress, "you're safe now."
And for once, Kaiyo believed it. Nahida made him feel safe. She felt like the mother he wished he could have had. She made him happy, and he wished to never lose her.

There’s something extremely heartbreaking about Nicos cameo/first words in the show being him looking for Bianca. He’s always going to be the little boy looking for his big sister. Season three is going to be the end of me.

When Senshi was young in the dungeon the majority of the adults he were with ostracized him. All except Gillin, who died to make sure Senshi had something to eat: unseasoned boiled meat that may or may not have been one of their comrades.
It really puts into perspective why he was so nurturing towards Chilchuck. When Chil reveals he’s 28 to the party, Senshi responds by telling him that he thought he was older. Senshi was in his 30s when he and his comrades got trapped in the dungeon, so it’s safe to assume that he thought Chil was at a similar age.
He met a young boy who was, from his perspective, forced to do dangerous work in the dungeon just like he was, and so, Senshi made an effort to look after Chilchuck in the same way Gillin looked after him.
Mind you, when Senshi was young in the dungeon he had to starve for weeks, eat the horse he loved, and finish it off spending the next i don’t know how many years wondering if he committed cannibalism.
Senshi understands first hand the value of nutrition and proper eating, so when he’s with the party he makes an effort to make sure they’re all eating a full and balanced diet. Not only that, but Senshi INVOLVES them in the process of getting food to eat, always preparing it in front of them and narrating every ingredient in the process so that there’s no doubt about what they’re eating.

Here's a neat detail:
Not to talk about season 1 Good Omens in the year of our Lord and Season 3 announcement 2023, but I kind of just realized another little moment that's very sweet and true to real life.
I really like that Crowley isn't just fine again after he learns Aziraphale survived the bookshop burning after all. Normally in stories when there's a "surprise, I'm alive!" moment, the characters just kind of celebrate for a minute and then move on business as usual. But Crowley doesn't. He continues to be visibly be shaken and a little unfocused throughout his conversation with Aziraphale, and when he has to explain what happened, he starts crying again.

I don't know I just thought that was a really nice detail because anyone who's experienced similar whiplash in real life knows about that... residual grief period I guess? I think this was a core memory that informed a lot of Crowley's behavior in season 2, you don't ever really forget that moment you lost them no matter how brief. There's just something very loving and vulnerable in him being like "I thought you were gone, and even though I know now you're ok, I want you to know just thinking about it upsets me deeply."

I’m thinking about Mahito’s great great uncle maintaining and preserving a peaceful and beautiful thing in a way that to an outside observer looks tedious and unimportant, hoping to pass the duty off to a successor but ultimately he cannot find one and dies with it.
I’m thinking about the specificity of the blocks being made and handled with care, not with malice or ill intent.
I’m thinking about Hayao Miyazaki, a bastion of beautiful 2d hand drawn animation who refuses to retire.
I’m thinking about a world where animation is so rarely made with love over profit and efficiency.
I’m thinking about how, though the old man didn’t see it, the next generation still hangs onto a piece of that beautiful, tedious thing and takes it with them because it feels important.
I’m thinking about Mahito being told he should forget, but no. He shouldn’t.

They told you to fix a world they couldn't but you realized you can't fix it with the broken, maliced soaked blocks they leave behind. So you choose to a different way, one that embraces the world and its impurities but you keep a block because to forget is to repeat.

this line fucking hit. but it's true.
queer people for years, centuries, have been oppressed for being their most authentic selves, by the people who call themselves heroes and us the monsters, even nowadays with the most recent law for allowing discrimination against queer people in America. They call themselves the good guys, the saviours, the ones completely in the right and justified for hating against people just trying to live their lives. And apparently we're supposed to be the bad guys in this story.
i'm so glad that this movie came out when it did, the world really needs it.
