Top 5 FFXIV Boss Fights. Dungeon, Trial, Raid, Solo Story, whatever.
5. Hydaelyn. The ambiance, the music, the way her fighting style is equal parts divinity and adventurer, how she switches weaponry and basically just creates a fully complete and integrated experience of everything you've faced so far: Stack markers, spread markers, line of sight, add phase, DPS checks, radial AoEs, donut AoEs, she has absolutely everything. I'm a huge fan of integral test-type bosses, bosses that expressly are trying to test you on fundamentals and everything else you've seen and used at least once so far. 4. Tsukuyomi. Tsukuyomi will always have a place in my heart because it was in this fight that I actually enjoyed playing FFXIV for the first time; before Tsukuyomi, I enjoyed reading FFXIV, but I markedly did not enjoy the gameplay at all with very marked exceptions. The moment the music kicks up and Tsukuyomi starts pulling out the big mechanics, with lots of mobility, colors, coordinated play, and all of that jazz, it was legit the first time I kinda just woke up from Reading Mode and had to actually engage in the systems of the game, and what a wonderful fight to wake up during! 3. The Diablo Armament. Not only is it a really funny "HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO TEACH YOU THIS LESSON, OLD MAN" moment, it fucking slaps. The music is great, it's at the end of my favorite content in the game, you overcame a LOT of challenges to get to it, and now you fight yet another wholly unique boss with a lot of funny tricks up his sleeve. The first time I managed to fully dodge the Diabolic Gate -> Ruinous Pseudomen -> Ultimate Pseudoterror combo, I legitimately felt so proud of myself. 2. Warrior of Light. The reason I finally said to myself, fine, ok, I'll play an MMO, fine, was because I was jamming out to random autoplay in Youtube while doing something else, and then this absolute turbobanger starts going off and I'm like damn ok what the FUCK is this from, so I check, and not only is it FFXIV (which a lot of friends already played), it was apparently the theme of John Final Fucking Fantasy I himself? In his Amano design? So that made me REALLY curious and I committed to finding out What It Did. The fight slaps harder than the fist of an angry god and it has my second favorite moment in the entire game, when Elidibus basically summons a party of FFIV characters and hits me with "Mankind's first hero, and his final hope!" which lives rent free in my mind forever. 1. Lyon's second duel, in Zadnor. The last thing I did before I stopped playing was finish up 100%ing Bozja content, which meant defeating the 6 superboss 1 on 1 duels in Bozja and Zadnor. Of the six, Lyon 2 was the hardest and most fun. Learning his fight was a trial and a half, he is REALLY damn hard and demanding, but I consider it my greatest achievement to have beaten him, because holy moly macaroni those Hearts of Nature and the Caged Heart of Nature into Cross Bombs gets Very Intense to dodge all while maintaining rotation for the strict DPS check. Lyon is also a really cool character #TACTICSOGREGANG
If I can include a number 6, Dun Scaith, expressly due to Deathgaze Hollow. It's SUCH a mean fucking fight to open with and it's a fight in which you IMMEDIATELY can know Who Knows, actual comedy gold. I would also include my favorite instance bar none, Delubrum Reginae, but I prioritized single encounters over overall dungeons or instances.

Heeey Eeeem! Sorry if this ffxiv talk is bothering ya right now, but I just played a bunch of Bozja and uhm. Im not, a fan... You were right though, getting a party was easier than I expected, Bozja is much better than Eureka for that! I think I mostly just dislike the random mobs being useless, being hella brutal as a non healer but hella dull as one and the duels seem. unfun, though idk about that one cause I havent done one yet. It feels even more fate grindy than Eureka so far but with arenas so youre fucked if theres noone with res :c maybe im just new cause I think eureka when starting out was awful, how did you feel about these 2? The lost action thing is a lot more prominent here which seems hard, too ; ־;
The lost actions actually make it a lot easier. You can bring a raise in case nobody else has one, and you can bring a fuckin overpowered potion that makes it possible to solo most fates with how much hp regen it gives you. The duels s2 like. Definitely not for the faint of heart. They give you a guaranteed drop off the opponent's notes, which are really rare outside of the duels. You also get 99 lockboxes, which can get you a preddy nice mount! After you get to like, max boss, I'd probably recommend sticking around there or spamming delubrum to get you enough mettle to access the later zones of zadnor. Bc zadnor to my knowledge is Fuckin Dead outside of the last zone lol. Anyway I hope you have fun! Eventually! It was definitely kinda slow going for me!

this is a pretty rambling post, fair warning.
i'm lowkey taking a break from ff14 right now (i say, as i log in to do roulettes) — but no, seriously, i've mostly been taking a break and it's nice. i have a standing obligation on sundays — i have a group that's been farming the endwalker EX mounts, we're on the last fight, 38 more clears to go — but otherwise i have very little to do at this point of the expansion.
there are things i could still do, of course. the diadem is sitting there waiting for me to go back. the eureka relics are the only ones in the game i have left to finish. i could no-life hunts for a while. i really need to buckle down and work on chocobo racing.
or i could just... not. i've been going pretty hard all expansion and it's nice to take a break. i want to beat at least two more full JRPGs before dawntrail comes out, maybe 3 if i have time. it's often hard for me to switch gears when i'm knee-deep in a game, so actively taking a break is good for me.
currently i'm working on leveling my Trust NPCs for cálei; i have two more runs of vanaspati to do and then it's on to ktisis. i've just been running one trust dungeon a day since they buffed the EXP and it's kind of chill? i obviously prefer doing dungeons with real people because it's faster and smoother, but it's kinda nice to just take half an hour and work on a run. (this is the stockholm syndrome from the dead ends farm talking.)
but other than that, i really don't have much else to do. i got mikh'li to DNC 90, so he's done until the expansion. reis is omni-90 so i have VERY little to do on her. i do want to get her through bozja at some point because i want the zadnor glams, but it's pretty low priority. (and i really don't want to do a shb relic on her, i'd have to do all the one-time-step things again and lmao no. one set of 180 raids is enough, thanks.)
so that leaves rune as the one character i'm still leveling. i'm leveling WHM and AST in tandem to practice healing because i'm pretty out of practice... although i keep getting ARR duties in roulette, so i don't know how much practice i'm actually getting. after that i need to finish leveling SMN on her as well. i might level her two remaining tanks, but it's very low priority. (what if i only leveled classes i actually liked playing. what a concept.)
actually, let me share my checklist!
Tumblr media
this is how i keep track of all the stuff i do in ff14. it's simple, but it's kinda nice? i have logs going back to november and it's fun to go back through them and see what i was working on. it's also very convenient to have a list of things to do on my alts — i do custom deliveries on 4 characters and i can never remember whether i did them or not. it keeps me organized. this week's checklist is pretty barebones because i've hardly been doing anything, but usually it's more interesting.
i guess that's all i have to say for now. time to go run roulettes on rune! then it's back to persona 3.

god ive really gotta take the time to go back and get all the bozja field notes. and learn the duel cheese strat, cause sartauvoirs notes just DO NOT drop and its infuriating. hes the only southern front notes i need. now that im max rank i can get the actions i need for the cheese and that should make it a lot easier. still will have to like, actually get the duel which is kinda hard but i know what im doing on metal fox. and heck. i may as well do the lyon duel even tho i ahve his notes bc i could get the fun title. i wont use it but it would be nice to have. not looking forward to grinding dalriada notes cause nobody runs it anymore
