On the sign falling off the wall for the Rush Hour team on Boys Planet
Tumblr media
This whole moment is such a multi-layered metaphor for the way this show works.
MNET is trying to present this as if Ricky is a bad luck omen, or as if the sign falling off the wall is symbolic of the troubles the team would have. And yet, the truth is that the signs were poorly applied to the wall, because MNET is cheap and shitty and lazy, and the sign falling had nothing whatsoever to do with these trainees.
So the metaphor here isn’t that Ricky is a bad luck omen.
The metaphor is that the sign is cheap the way that MNET is cheap.
The metaphor is that MNET blaming the trainees for their own sign falling down symbolizes the way they put trainees in a position in which they have to do emotionally difficult things and then both blame them for their emotional responses and wallow in their frustration and tears.
The metaphor is that MNET blaming a set design failure on a Chinese trainee is symbolic of how they blame everything on Chinese trainees.
The metaphor is that MNET sucks as bad as this set sucks.

Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever spoilers below the cut.
I absolutely love how Prince T’Challa’s existence explains Nakia’s absence from Infinity War/Endgame. He looks 6-8 which would mean he was born after Black Panther 1, but before Infinity War, and neither of them were lost in the 5 year snap. Complete brilliance.

If I had a nickel every time a hero character in Phase 4 ended up having children I’d have
way too many nickels to count

First off:
The all Chadwick marvel intro, the whole theater was silent. It’s as if we all silently agreed to shut up for that moment.
The fact that they had T’Challa die of an unspoken illness… no words, I don’t know how to feel
Ramonda and Namor carried the whole damn movie
Killmonger??? I- I love how he ‘returned’ but didn’t actually return
T’Challa’s SON OH MY GOD
Riri! Loved her sm.
Okoye and Nakia, absolutely perfect and slayed every scene.

I really wish there was a whole movie about the women of Wakanda during the blip
Ryan Coogler says "Wakanda Forever" is about mothers.
Obviously, it is about Ramonda and Shuri. It's also about Namor and Fen. Fen wants to protect her unborn son so badly that she goes to live in the ocean.
Which brings us to Nakia, who is also protecting her child by hiding him. Prince T'Challa is basically human vibranium. Sharing him with the world could be good but it's also very scary.
(The timeline, as best as I can gather, is that Nakia says she left Wakanda "six" years ago, when the Blip happened. Presumably she was pregnant then. The baby is born during the Blip. Then everyone comes back. Shuri and T'Challa are seen with Ramonda reassuring the people of Wakanda in the end of Endgame. But saying "Wakanda Forever" takes place one year after T'Challa's death doesn't give a lot of time for him to be alive in between, a couple months tops, but probably less than that?)
I've seen people question the idea that T'Challa wouldn't tell Shuri since they were so close. And the only way to make sense of that is to say things must have been BAD during the Blip. Shuri was gone with T'Challa then, but she comes back. Once she is back it seems she's so focused on healing T'Challa that she doesn't spend much time with him, as it's Ramonda seems to be the one at his bedside. That makes sense to me thematically, in that she's science-based and not looking for a spiritual successor to T'Challa, not seeing the whole picture. Though it's still tough to say "they never had one important conversation that entire time." Unless King T'Challa didn't know much about baby T'Challa either?
I've made myself sad.
Anyway, I'd also love to know how Ramonda raised T'Challa and Shuri to be good people. Power and money can can easily turn princes and princesses into monsters (see everything George RR Martin has written, also real history and even how difficult it is for child actors to be normal). The scene with her and Shuri at the lake shows her focus is always about the emotional well-being of her kids. She wants Shuri to move through her grief, not to push it away.
Nor do I want to remove Nakia's agency from this narrative. She made the decision to hide T'Challa. I would like to know what she saw that scared her, what kept her from crowing joyfully that--though T'Challa and Shuri were gone--there was hope for Wakanda in a new generation. Instead the ruling fell to Ramonda. Maybe Ramonda took that burden happily, to spare her grandson. But it's still a burden.
Then I think about Okoye. Okoye's loyalty in BP1 is very clearly to Wakanda and not the ruling family. Ramonda and her fight about that in this film. Ramonda's loyalty is to her family, not the nation. I don't think Okoye would harm baby T'Challa. I think she'd love to be his protector. But that would mean putting him in the spotlight, and again I have to come back to the notion that Ramonda and Nakia decided that was not a good idea for some reason.
What was it like?

I love namora's outfit in wakanda forever. Not only is there a reference to the deadly/posionus lion fish integrated into the design...but it's the typical superhero outfit for women where you have the exposed midriff and a skirt...but it's not sexualized like normally.

I dont have strong opinions of shuri/namor cuz its whatever I didnt get those vibes but we do remember why reylo was so bad wasnt cuz it was toxic or unhealthy it was cuz it sidelined a black man in favor of a white man and ended up changing the course of the movies because people were so obsessed with it like that was the problem not cuz it was unhealthy. I do think there is smth to say about the age difference between namor and shuri but I definitely dont feel like it should be compared to reylo cuz the entire issue with reylo was racism

Speaking of WK crushes lol Shuri is so cute like my sapphic ass just wants to cup her cheeks and kiss her tenderly
I love Shuri. She is beautiful, she is brilliant. She is elegant. I can't be the only Shuri x Namor shipper, right?

(*Wakanda Forever spoilers*) I'm still not over Queen Ramonda and her death still stings. Angela Bassett's performance was everything
Tumblr media
ok so I choose this gif because I honestly feel that Angela deserves at least a nomination for a golden globe or an oscar. I love seeing her really dig into this role. Like I feel that Viola davis is getting most of the accolades lately (western media can only really pay attention to 1 black actress at a time tbh) but you know how Viola is referred to as Black Meryl Streep? I also feel like Angela bassett is as good as Viola and Meryl. I just feel like there aren't enough roles for Black women.
Anyways I might see bp:wf again on monday and I am so ready to cry again!
