What is the worst meta you have encountered. What claim has been so preposterous that you have contemplated deleting the Internet. Please bless us with others’ failures of critical thinking
Trust me, Mundie, when I say I have wiped most of them from my brain. Otherwise I will surely have gone insane.
I do remember reading something that is clearly a headcanon being billed as a meta. I think it was something for TFATWS; someone was literally headcanoning what Sam and Bucky might have done during the off-screen downtime, either between episodes or in the time-skip in a montage. They were headcanons inspired by canon events and characterisation, sure, but they are theories, speculations, and creative writing on what Sam and Bucky have gone up to in that unmentioned time. Then that OP tagged the post as 'meta' and I just, *facepalm* my child, that is not meta. Meta is analysis. You wrote a headcanon post. Please learn the word.
The actual 'bad' take I've seen isn't one meta, but I see people keep trying to refute it, and it is: the idea that AC/AOS is somehow not MCU canon, and they need Marvel to somehow 'adopt' AC/AOS back and 'make it MCU canon'.
LIke, first of all, AOS literally is an offshoot of MCU; you have the same Coulson as in The Avengers (2012). Same for AC; you have the same Peggy Carter. Please. (Not to mention the fact that James D’arcy’s Jarvis has already been adopted into the MCU, a la Endgame.)
There was this whole deal about how AOS has split off from MCU from S5, and I really don't understand. They say that because Daisy prevented Earth from being shattered by her/Graviton, it has created a new branching timeline and therefore is no longer in the same MCU timeline.
Which. My brother in MCU. Allow me to point you to Agents of SHIELD Season 5 Episode 20.
Tumblr media
Thanos was heading to Earth as the events of AOS S5 were unfolding. I really would say when Daisy prevented the Great Quakening from blowing Earth apart, she ensured that the real MCU timeline could continue, that there would still be an Earth for Thanos to land on and for the events of Infinity War to take place. How have they created a branching timeline please enlighten me.
Then those same people were saying that S6 was definitely not in the MCU timeline, because no one got blipped and the team did not address the Snappening. Again, my brother in MCU, do you know which other main MCU team didn’t get blipped? That’s right, OG6 Avengers. Just because no one got blipped doesn’t mean the blip didn’t take place.
As for the whole ‘the blip didn’t get addressed’ thing, I think we can all agree that Marvel is pulling a lot of strings in the background deciding what can/can’t AOS mention, but the plot of S6 does not suggest that it can’t take place concurrently with the aftermath of the blip. Think about how small the scope of S6 and S7 actually is. They were mostly in the Lighthouse, I think there was one park scene, they were in rural Ohio for a while, in a desolate temple somewhere...and then they travelled into the past! For all we know, while Daisy was busy containing that atomic bomb on Sarge’s death mobile, Steve could be out there holding a support group with gay Joe Russo.
There were some points made out there about continuity issues between AC/AOS and main MCU, but like—look, Marvel is three plot points wearing one big trench coat pretending to be one cinematic universe. There are loads of show out there with blatant plot holes or continuity issues, like Glee, but we don’t go around saying ‘x episode of Glee doesn’t count as canon Glee-verse’, right?
(Also. Since the beginning of the MCU, Disney’s been putting more and more Marvel attractions in Disneylands around the world, where the general premise is at least MCU-adjacent if not compliant. If you take a look at those Marvel attractions, you will find that AC/AOS are at least Disneyland-canon. In Avengers Campus Paris, there’s a restaurant furnished as ‘an old SSR facility’ that showed Peggy’s red hat from AC, as well as a picture of Michael Carter. In Hong Kong Disneyland, they put the Blitzkrieg Button in the Howard Stark section of ‘Stark Expo’, regularly play the AOS theme outside the SHIELD building, and feature the 0-8-4 from S1E02 in the SHIELD equipment room.)
So yea. This turned from lowkey dragging bad meta into writing essentially a counter meta.

Wandavision is great. But. Imagine that sitcom format for Agent Carter. Hayley Atwell, James D’Arcy and Dominic Cooper already have that energy. Maybe throw Chris Evans into the mix.
Chaos I tell you, chaos, simply marvellous.

Jonathan Groff presents a masterclass in experiencing, and demonstrating, emotion through song:
1. “Now” by Scott Alan, at Birdland, January 2008. It seems to me that the emotion here almost gets too much for Jonathan at one point (understandably, perhaps, given the context that Scott provided at the link shown below). If you would like to listen to a version of this beautiful, sad song with better quality audio, it is also on Spotify.
https://jonathangroffappreciation.tumblr.com/post/642083594637049856/scott-alan-on-tiktok
2. I’d Rather Be Sailing from A New Brain, December 2008. There are several videos on YouTube of Jonathan singing this song, but this is the earliest one I’ve found, and seems to contain a lot of genuine emotion. He has said that this song, which is a love song by a man about a man, meant a lot to him when he was young, knowing that he was gay but feeling that he had to keep it secret, and I believe it was one of his audition songs as a teenager. This performance is from before he publicly came out of the closet in October 2009.
https://youtu.be/OUoW54hVUeY
youtube
3. Not While I’m Around from Sweeney Todd, 2009 (with Lea Michele). This is another video where his emotions appear to take him - and Lea! - by surprise. https://youtu.be/J2lIbfUAMks
youtube
4. You Don’t Know My Name by Alicia Keys, at Joe’s Pub, 2010. A classic of the "acting through song" genre. Jonathan acts out the entire song on stage, including use of borrowed props and the most blatant flirtation with a microphone stand - and the audience! - that you’ve ever seen. Unmissable.
https://youtu.be/RyuNZTWIZc8
youtube
5. A Case of You by Joni Mitchell, at Joe’s Pub, 2010. The same show as above, but a very different tone, as he’s making himself - and us - cry here, rather than laugh.
https://youtu.be/iM02l_xLgRc
youtube
6. Being In The Dark With You by Ben Toth, 2012 (with Cheyenne Jackson). I had to include this one, of course, as it is my all-time favourite. Not the clearest camera angle, but the intense eye contact comes across, and Jonathan’s slightly submissive posture in this (partially due to the height difference; I’m not used to seeing him look so small!) fits perfectly with the lyrics.
https://youtu.be/bkXDzOv535w
youtube
7. Lost in his Arms by Irving Berlin, from Annie Get Your Gun, 2014. Jonathan has said that this song has a lot of meaning to him, as it is from the first musical that he ever saw, when he was in fourth grade, and also because it is one that is usually sung by a woman, but which takes on new meaning when sung by Jonathan without flipping the pronouns. He has performed it a number of times, but this is my favourite version.
https://nyti.ms/3fjlgPk
8. Ham4Ham The Schuyler Georges, 2015 (with Renee Elise Goldsberry, Andrew Rannells and Brian D’Arcy James). One of the things I love most about Jonathan is his ability to completely change his physicality to fit a particular character, and he certainly achieves that here.
https://youtu.be/yhUFZZ5sVrc
youtube
9. You’ll Be Back from Hamilton, 2015. Well, of course, I had to include the ultimate example of “acting through song”.
- Stage directions: Create a memorable, unmistakable character, in three and a half minutes, while standing perfectly still and using only your voice, eyes and shoulders.
- Jonathan/KGIII: Nailed it!
https://youtu.be/Ti8xeyaSwCI
youtube
10. BONUS: Reacting to Ellen Winter’s debut album, Every Feeling I’ve Ever Felt. I’m cheating slightly here, as this isn’t a video of Jonathan singing (much), but instead of him reacting to his friend’s songs and “feeling every feeling he’s ever felt”.
(For more “Jonathan can’t help displaying every emotion on his face while listening to music” footage, see the video on YouTube of him reacting to Sia’s cover of Satisfied.)

Under the Lights  Daveed Diggs x reader
Before I even paste this into Tumblr, I want you all to know that this took me two days of constant writing, and FOUR pages on google docs. I know that the second I hit paste, it’s going to be like one page. Anyways, here’s Daveed x reader.
2010
“Hey, Y/N, I brought you muffins!” A woman with a mouth full of pins, her hair up in a messy bun, measuring tape sloppily tied around her neck, and a pincushion on her wrist, exited a space separated from the rest of the apartment by a thin curtain. Seeing her best friend and roommate enter with goodies, a bright grin fluttered onto her face. “Wanna see what I did while you were gone?” He nodded and followed her to her half of the work room. On a mannequin, a beautiful dress was fleshed out much more than it had been when Lin had left this morning. It had been nothing more than a sketch on paper for the Newsies show. As a major in history with a minor in design, Y/N was accepted by Disney to create the costumes. It didn’t hurt that The Lin Manuel Miranda of In the Heights fame was on her list of references. She had decided to start with Medda’s dress first. Medda was a personal favorite of hers and was excited to do her own spin on it. A deep purple sash had been half pinned under the bodice and sadly hung from its haphazard placement. “The sash would look better if you hadn’t distracted me with food dork.” He smiled and pressed the folded paper bag into her hand. “Alright. I’m going to finish this for Alan. It’s a miracle I have this job. I’m not screwing it up. I also meant to tell you that one of my guys are going to be here tomorrow for a measure and design session. Sweet kid. Amazing dancer.” Lin grinned teasingly as he set his laptop down on his desk. “Am I getting replaced? Is he going to be your new roommate and best friend?” Y/N stuck out her tongue at her best friend and continued her work. The sounds of humming and a machine whirring mixed in with the excited clacking of keys to make a strangely beautiful symphony.
2013
“Y/N! I need your help!” In the tiny apartment in the upper east side, an over-caffeinated Wesleyan Alumni burst through the front door, a paper bag of bagels clutched tightly. At the yells, another Alumni ran from her section of the apartment.  “Lin! What’s wrong? Are you hurt?” He thrusts the bag into her searching hands, and lets out another shriek. “Y/N! I’m fine! They want to put The Hamilton Mixtape through a workshop! And if we get this right, they’ll move us to a real show!” Shoving his shoulders, she muffled her screams behind pinched lips. “Lin, you can not go scaring me like that! I’m going to get gray hairs before we even get to the off Broadway! What do you need my help with?” He pulled her onto the ratty couch they had in the little space. “I need a costumer. You’re the best in the business. Not to mention I’ll be with you all the time, so there’s no chance of miscommunications!” Standing from her forced seat, she cradled Lin’s head in her hands. She saw the excitement glimmer in his eyes and softened. “Lin, of course I’ll help you, I am a history major after all. Who else could make it historically accurate while still being functional? Thank you for even considering me, and for the bagels.” She pressed a kiss to the crown of his head. Giving a crooked smile, she pointed a finger in his face. “If you ever scare me like that, I swear I will never cook or bake for you again.” He smiled sheepishly and shrugged in apology. “Sorry, but hey, you’re my costumer now!” She smiled and bumped her hip with his. She dug through her pads of paper and snatched her laptop off the charger. “Alright. Give me your tracks and I’ll get started.”
July 27th, 2013
“Alright, I’m here. Sorry I’m late, I got halfway down the block before I figured out I left my notes on the desk. Who do we have here?” Three men held my attention, understandable since they were the main cast. I recognized Brian D’arcy James from other productions, there was another man with big hair and bright eyes, and finally my eyes fell on Christopher. I smiled at him and gave him a quick hug. “Oh my God! What are you doing here? I haven’t seen you in so long! How’ve you been.” He chuckled and pulled me in again. “I’m good. I was missing our Vanessa for a while, but you’re working with us now so I won’t have to miss you anymore! Lin told me about the project and I couldn’t turn it down.” He turned me to the stranger at the clearing of a throat. “Oh, this is Daveed. He’s playing Thomas Jefferson and Lafayette. He raps.” I looked at him up and down, remembering the songs Lin had written for him. I cocked my head, and he looked at me with nervous eyes. “This will work. This is going to work great actually.” I saw his shoulders relax and sag with relief as I walked back to the table set up for the behind the scenes people. I gripped my pen in my hand, ready to jot down every little thought that passed through my mind for the time of the workshop.
After hours and hours of rehearsals and run throughs, I’d filled up a notebook and a half for costumes for the characters. This time around Lin wanted his cast flexible. Those whose characters were not in the second act were recast as another role, so I had to figure out how to do quick changes not only for the nine main cast members, but for the entire ensemble. As Lin and I packed up our things to head home, the man with the beautiful eyes stopped me. “Hey, Vanessa, right?” I heard Lin and Christopher snicker somewhere behind me and I shot them a look. “Actually, it’s Y/N.” His eyes widened in embarrassment and his hand lifted to rub the back of his neck. “Sorry, I just thought it was Vanessa since that’s what Christopher called you.” I shook my head and smiled. “Oh, no. That’s just a little joke between us. I was the demo Vanessa when Lin was trying to sell In the Heights. I’m the reason why Vanessa never speaks Spanish. I took French all through high school and college.” He nodded and rocked back and forth on his heels. “I’ve got some questions about costumes and everything you do. Could I have your number to keep in contact?” I nodded and pulled out my phone, switching it with his and I plugged in my contact information. “Alright. I’m headed home, but I’ll make a schedule for measuring and design sessions. I’ll see you tomorrow?” He nodded enthusiastically, making his hair bob with his movements. I waved goodnight and followed Lin out of the building.
“So, Daveed.” I looked up from my buzzing phone to Lin out of the corner of my eye, giving him an eyebrow. “What about Daveed?” He shrugged and wore a small smile. “You texting him?” I put my phone down to look at him headlong. “And if I am?” Once again he shrugged and got up to grab a snack. “Nothing, just remember your worth.” I shake my head good naturally. “Alright Dad. Now, I’ve got to sketch out what my brain was screaming during the workshop. And how to create every outfit as a quick change. Thanks loser.”
July 15th, 2015
“Alright everyone! We’ve practiced these changes for weeks! Remember your number, remember your cue. You all have been a wonder to work with and to create for. I love you all and break a leg!” Everyone is dressed in white for the opening number, and I am proud of my work. “Oh, and Daveed;” Daveed looks up at me, a strange look in his eyes. “Yes, Y/N?” I looked him in the eyes, stoic and serious. “If you rip your pants during Guns and Ships again, you will repay me by organizing the scrap bin.” He swallowed visibly and nodded his head. I smiled once again and put my hand out for a group theatre circle. “Break a leg!” Everyone scurried to their cue spot in their costumes and Lin hugged me from behind. “Thank you for doing this for me. I never would be able to have costumes this good if it weren’t for you.” I turned in his arms and smiled. “I’m glad I did too Lin. Now go, they’re calling your name.” I listened from my side of the stage, getting everything in order for the main cast. I pulled Daveeds coat off quickly and held out his blue one for him to slide on. “Hey, Y/N, maybe after the show we can-“ “Diggs! Get to your cue!” I smiled and nudged him. “Go. Talk to me after the show.” He gave a quick kiss to my cheek and went to do his thing on stage. As I pinned the rose to Renée’s dress, her sweet voice teased at me. “You do know that he loves you too, right?” I know what she’s talking about, but I pretend to play dumb. “Who loves me? Nevermind, neither of us have the time for this. Go kick ass out there.” She scrunched her eyebrows at me and pointed her finger to say “This isn’t over.”
The first act went by in a flash, costume changes and character changes took up all of my time. After I had hung up every dress, every coat, every pair of trousers and corset, Daveed had changed and packed up all of his things. I had just finished mending the lace cuff on his magenta sleeve when he had walked in. He wore a sleeveless Oakland jersey with a matching hat pressed onto his freed hair. “Oh! Daveed! Perfect timing! I was just finishing up here. What was it that you were wanting to tell me?” At my question, it was like a switch had been flipped in him. He went from the cool and collected suave man who the fans fantasized over to a shy and awkward man who had run out of words. Self-doubt and insecurity filled my inner dialogue as I watched him shut down and clam up. I was filled with the fear and anxiety that he had come to ask me to stop staring, to stop caring. I let the silence carry on for a while longer until Anthony called for us to leave. “I, I should probably go, then. You were amazing tonight, not a single trip or stutter. I am so proud of you.” I swallowed down the tears making their way up my throat and gave him a watery smile. I grabbed my bag, and started to make a hurried exit until my wrist was caught by a large and calloused hand. “Wait, no. Y/N, I wanted to know if you wanted to grab something to eat, go do something when we don’t have a show. You know, like maybe a date? Unless you don’t want to, then it’ll just be us as friends. I’d actually really appreciate it if you just forgot this whole ordeal and-” I smiled and blushed at his sweet ramblings. I stepped up onto my workbench and gripped his face in my hands. Taking a deep breath I leaned in and connected our lips, praying to every spiritual being in the heavens that they would allow him to kiss me back. I guess praying did me good because after getting over the shock of being interrupted, he kissed me back with the same fervour. Once more, we are called to leave the theater and we break apart, panting lightly with swollen lips and pink cheeks. He helped me down from my step and I lifted myself onto my toes to give a peck to his cheek. “Alright big guy, let’s go home. Lin’s either knowing of what we were doing, or he’s pacing in our living room, police on speed dial. And I would love to go on a date with you.”

1. what is your favorite television show from the 80′s?
agatha christie’s poirot, which is only technically from the 80s because it was on air from 1989 to 2015, but i absolutely adore it
4. who is your favorite female television character of all time?
donna motherfucking noble from doctor who. “you’re not going to change the world by shouting at it!” “I CAN TRY!” donna is an unapologetic, sarcastic, take-no-shit, feminist badass, and yet she’s also compassionate and loyal and quietly brave and so, so achingly human. i aspire to be donna noble in all aspects of my life
9. favorite guest-star appearance on a television show?
this changes depending on what i’m watching at any given moment, but right now it’s probably james d’arcy as derek ketting in the “mystery of the blue train” episode of poirot because he plays the absolute polar opposite of jarvis and it’s really fun to watch. honorable mentions go to felicity jones as robina redmond in doctor who and jeremy jordan’s guest role in elementary (because he’s jeremy jordan!) on a completely tangential note i miss elementary a lot. that was a great show
22. name a show that means something to you, and why?
i know that at this point at least 50% of my blog is just agent carter, and i do adore it, but let’s all not forget that doctor who is actually my favorite show! it’s a scifi show full of time travel, varying levels of bad cgi, and increasingly ridiculous technobabble, and it’s all about how kindness is the most powerful thing in the universe. i’m literally begging all of you who haven’t watched it to go watch it right now it’s so goddamn good
36. favorite director?
this is a really interesting question simply because i don’t know if i could tell you any 2 non-franchise films that i’ve seen that have the same director. i loved what greta gerwig did with little women, though, and everything about rian johnson’s knives out is sheer perfection. (and plot points aside, last jedi had fantastic cinematography.) so either gerwig or johnson, but really specifically to those two films. (again, not super on board with all of the writing for last jedi.)
91. pick a movie, any movie. now tell us your favorite scene?
i’m reading sharp objects right now so i have amy adams on the brain, so let’s do enchanted: either the “that’s how you know” montage or literally every time edward is onscreen
tv and film questions!!!

My Hamilton experience
Hello my dudes seeing as people have mentioned being interested in my recounting of my night at the Richard Rodgers theatre back on Tuesday, here it is! I took notes so I’d remember by the time I came home to my laptop.
So the cast for the night was the current regular cast (late May 2017), but with Donald Webber Jr. as Hamilton rather than Javi. I was sat in the orchestra, row Q, and had no trouble with the view at all! Sometimes the faces weren’t as clear but hey that’s probably just me ignoring the fact I need glasses to see far away.
So getting right into it!
Lemme start this off by telling y’all how fucking amazing Donald Webber Jr. is as Hamilton. His voice is smooth af, which was a real contrast for over a year of having Lin’s voice as Ham. I absolutely loved the way he played him, and the way he interprets the character development is beautiful. To make this very clear to you reading this how great he was in the role, he made me like Ham better than Burr, while in the original Lin vs Leslie cast I liked Burr better.
Another notable performance from a lesser known actor for me was Anthony Lee Medina as Laurens/Philip. The guy had the audience in his pockets, kept stealing scenes despite being a minor character, and had the whole theater laughing with his exaggerated but not corny moves.
Then of course there is light of my life Mandy Gonzalez whom every time my eyes fell on my brain just kept thinking about how I was living and breathing in the same room as her. She was a great Angelica!
A recent addition to the cast is James Monroe Iglehart, which is funny because he was in the Playbill both as Lafayette/Jefferson and still on the ad for Aladdin. His French accent was on par with Daveed’s as Lafayette, but he did play it more subtly in Act 1 since I assume he didn’t want to bring too much attention to himself? But then he came in as Thomas Jefferson for What Did I Miss and lemme tell you it really did feel like we had a Broadway powerhouse in the room. The song has never been one of my favourites but his performance made it a highlight of the show, and I kinda got the impression that every other actor acted even harder since he raised the bar, if that makes sense?
Also a special mention to Lexi because while I wasn’t that convinced by her beginning of the show portrayal of Eliza, by the time she became Mommy Eliza I could really see a progression and she played her with every inch of depth the character deserves, and was splendid at showcasing how much Eliza loved Philip (and also her voice is gorgeous).
Another special mention to Alysha because she’s so tiny she’s perfect for Peggy but also THAT VOICE as Maria Reynolds really seemed like it came out of nowhere but it was really really beautiful and silky and soothed my soul.
Finally (for the cast, because even though there are many more these are the ones that impressed me the most) Brian D’Arcy James was back as King George, which felt special to have the very original king, and he was great in the role. He had the audience so whipped he could’ve legit tripped and everyone would have thought it was scripted.
Now I’ve seen those lists of hidden gems in the performance you can’t get from the recording, so I’ll just name a few I personally don’t recall having read.
During Wait For It when Burr mentions Hamilton, he looks to the wings and this bright golden light comes out of there, which really does feel loaded with symbolism and just looks so striking
Then during Guns and Ships, everyone not involved in the scene is on the balustrade and shouts “Hamilton!” for him to come back to the fight but if you really pay attention, Burr remains silent and looks defeated/annoyed while clenching the balustrade, which was a really cool detail
During The Reynolds Pamphlet, I’d previously seen how everybody taunts Ham, but I hadn’t heard of how Washington comes on stage and looks so discouraged, and how heartbreaking it is when Philip clenches the pamphlet and runs off when the douche trio makes sure he sees it happened ‘in his own house’
During Non-Stop, Burr actually collapses on his chair from disbelief when showing how non-stop Ham is, which makes for a funny moment you don’t get from just the song!
After the show I went to the stage door (shoutout to the annoying suburban moms and their ungrateful kids who liked the king the most- y’all were insufferable) and Brian was in a hurry so he just breezed through, but James Monroe Iglehart, Bryan Terrell Clark and Donald Webber Jr. were hella sweet and nice even despite my terrible social interaction skills (especially in rushed situation when I know they gotta move on to the next person).
So yeah, here you have it for my novel length recalling of my night at Hamilton! The show was everything I’d hoped it would be, and bonus points my dad enjoyed it a lot and openly said he almost cried by the end!

All Black prop Karl Tu'inukuafe's meningitis scare: "Not fatal - so I was happy about that'
New Post has been published on https://diary.nz/all-black-prop-karl-tuinukuafes-meningitis-scare-not-fatal-so-i-was-happy-about-that/
All Black prop Karl Tu'inukuafe's meningitis scare: "Not fatal - so I was happy about that'
All Black prop Karl Tu’inukuafe was left so confused by a viral brain infection that his wife was forced to call an ambulance, the World Cup hopeful has revealed.
Cult hero Tu’inukuafe, the great rugby success story of 2018, is battling to make the tournament in Japan after being left out of the Bledisloe Cup squad.
The big Blues front rower has explained for the first time how serious his condition was. He was diagnosed with viral meningitis, leading to two months on the sideline.
“The doctors don’t know exactly how it came by, it was an infection, fluid on the brain,” he told D’Arcy Waldegrave on Radio Sport.
“It was viral meningitis, not bacterial (meningitis) which is fatal. There is illness for a bit and you can get past it.
“There was a whole bunch of confusion, like concussion like symptoms for a week. I had to take eight to 10 weeks off.
“It wasn’t too bad, it could have gone a different way. Luckily it was on the side of not being fatal so I was happy about that.”
Fan favourite…Karl Tu’inukuafe delights the crowd. Photo / Photosport
Tu’inukuafe’s wife immediately rang Blues doctor James McGarvey when the extent of the problem became apparent.
“My wife was freaking – I didn’t know what was going on. I was confused about what I was actually doing at home,” he said.
“The Blues doctor told her to call an ambulance. Luckily, the doctors got through to me and fixed me up after a couple of days.”
Tu’inukuafe, who lines up for North Harbour against Auckland on Friday night, said the All Black coaches had given him a list of work ons.
And he has taken his demotion with utmost humility.
“I was fine with it, I applaud the coaches’ decision,” he said.
“It is like loyalty…my opportunity only came from injuries to Tim Perry and Atu Moli. They have gone back to what they were looking at from the start.
“Atu had a great season, and I was missing half the season through illness. It is good they gave him a shot again because he had a terrible injury last year. To see him come back and doing so well is really good.
“Whatever is best for the team. We trust what the coaches decide to do – we’re always happy for the brothers getting in the team and doing well.
“I could always be better at scrummaging – they tell me to do more than that. There are a lot of other roles that you need to be really good on.
“Your rugby IQ has to be really up there when it comes to reacting to plays and so on. They gave me a whole list of stuff…reacting quicker, ball playing and so on.
“I could always be fitter and more mobile. Angus Ta’avao is one of the main guys who is being really mobile, one of those props showing that in New Zealand.”
Tu’inukuafe said playing for North Harbour would allow a bit more freedom in his game compared to what was required at higher levels.

The Week in New York Theater Reviews
The Neurology of the Soul
If Edward Einhorn has given his play a title that might prove a tad off-putting to anybody but neurologists who read Scientific American, the playwright has fashioned an accessible plot that is more or less a love triangle, which allows him to weave in neurological observations about his trio of central concerns  –  love, art and marketing.
The Scarlet Pimpernel
There was one thrilling moment in Manhattan Concert Productions’ one night only concert version of Frank Wildhorn and Nan Knighton’s “Scarlet Pimpernel” at Lincoln Center last night. Norm Lewis as the evil French revolutionary Chauvelin draws his sword on Tony Yazbeck, who portrays a man with a double identity, the masked hero of the title, and the English aristocrat Sir Percy Blakeney. Yazbeck, looking for a weapon, grabs the first violinist’s bow. He apologizes, and seeks help next from the conductor of the New York City Chamber Orchestra, who just happens to have a sword handy. Lewis and Yazbeck fight gallantly, Laura Osnes as Sir Percy’s wife Marguerite St. Just gets in on the act — and then suddenly, Yazbeck starts dancing. Yazbeck is one of the best dancers on Broadway, and it’s Heavenly. Then Lewis joins him in a soft-shoe routine.
Otherwise, despite a starry cast with great voices, there is unlikely to be much of a reassessment of this musical that critics called “middlebrow,” “wooden,” “pulpy” and boring when it opened on Broadway in 1997, but whose fans kept it running for more than two years. One thing has changed: It’s easier to see the exaggerated foppishness of Sir Percy and his men (in order to escape suspicion that they are the heroic he-men that do battle against the French) as crossing the line into homophobia.
Books:
Looking for Lorraine
Lorraine Hansberry was just 28 years old when “A Raisin in the Sun” opened on Broadway — 60 years ago next month – and lived only six more years, dying of cancer at the age of 34.  Yet her short life was extraordinarily full and varied. She was the privileged daughter of an affluent, politically active Chicago family whose father’s anti-segregation lawsuit was resolved in his favor by the United States Supreme Court. She was a radical activist and anti-colonialist who gave speeches on Harlem street corners… She was an intellectual who studied with the legendary scholar and activist W.E.B. DuBois and debated with novelist Richard Wright; a bohemian who lived in Greenwich Village in an interracial marriage; a closeted but active lesbian who wrote short stories about lesbian life under a pseudonym; a celebrity who formed close friendships with both writer James Baldwin and singer Nina Simone…
Fraver by Design: 5 Decades of Theatre Poster Art
Some of the theater posters Frank Verlizzo designed hang on the famous flop wall of Joe Allan’s restaurant. Some hold a prominent place in the homes of grateful Broadway stars. But many are images embedded in various parts of our brain via images in newspaper ads, on the side of buses, t-shirts, album covers, and up and down the Great White Way. Many of those posters appeared in an exhibition at the New York Library or the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, and are now in his coffee table book…
“Just a Homosexual at a Broadway Show”
A passage from Less (Little, Brown), the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Andrew Sean Greer about a middle-aged gay writer living in San Francisco who takes a trip around the world to avoid attending the wedding of his ex-lover. His first stop is New York: “New York is a city of eight million people, approximately seven million of whom will be furious when they hear you were in town and didn’t meet them for an expensive dinner…It is completely reasonable to call none of them. You could instead sneak off to a terrible, treacly Broadway show that you will never admit you paid two hundred dollars to see. This is what Less does on his first night, eating a hot dog dinner to make up for the extravagance. You cannot call it a guilty pleasure when the lights go down and the curtain goes up, when the adolescent heart begins to beat along with the orchestra, not when you feel no guilt. And he feels none; he feels only the shiver of delight when there is nobody around to judge you. It is a bad musical, but, like a bad lay, a bad musical can still do its job perfectly well. By the end, Arthur Less is in tears, sobbing in his seat, and he thinks he has been sobbing quietly until the lights come up You could instead sneak off to a terrible, treacly Broadway show that you will never admit you paid two hundred dollars to see. Nothing happened to me, he wants to say to her. Nothing happened to me. I’m just a homosexual at a Broadway show.“

Comedy and Theater
Laughing Matters by Matthew McMahan in HowlRound One can look at almost any comedy, from the irreverence of The Book of Mormon, to the agitprop of the Latino collective Culture Clash, to the philosophic whimsy of playwright Sarah Ruhl, and find a whole host of information about the way a culture thinks and feels and acts….Laughter, then, tells us who we are even when we don’t want it to, and the American theatre would be remiss to ignore it.
Why Comedy Is Eating Theatre’s Lunch by Jason Zinoman in American Theatre A message to the theatre: Comedy is, if not your enemy, then at least a very formidable rival. TV was long seen as the enemy of theatre. A common criticism you would often hear of a play is that it was too much like a sitcom. But TV was always fundamentally different than theatre. Comedy, on the other hand, shares a lot. It is a live art form, and the same romantic defenses you often hear of theatre you can also hear from comics—the beauty of its ephemerality, the present-tense nature of the form in a time when everyone is on screens. People who once went into the theatre are now going into comedy.
“I’m Not A Comedian…I’m Lenny Bruce” will begin an eight-week engagement at The Box (189 Chrystie Street) March 8th.
Yes, who ARE you? Answer: The art work is by Shantell Martin, part of the New York City Ballet art series.
