Note
Hiii I hope this is not intrusive, but I made a lil expedition in your blog and couldn't thing any post in wich you talk how you balance your life as an scientist while being chronically ill. I'm chronically ill myself (myalgic encephalomyelitis) and plan to be a doctor in a handful of science areas, but the amount of time I have to study per day is way bigger than I can afford with the fatigue and mind fog (adhd is also in the soup). It would be a wonder if you could share some tips and experiences if ya don't mind :) hope you've been doing ok
Thanks for asking! I've actually been trying to figure it out again for myself, so I'm not sure if I'm any help here because it is SO hard to balance work and life and being chronically ill. I also have ME/CFS in my alphabet soup of diagnoses, so I understand the struggle! I guess I could just talk about what I've done since getting sick? Maybe you can gleam some wisdom from it? I'm definitely not a doctor or an expert, but I can try to help! (sorry, this gets long...)
I got sick right after I got accepted into grad school but right before school started, so I had a lot of trial and error trying to find out what worked. And grad school is hard. It's always going to be hard. But grad school with a chronic illness was a new kind of hard and when I tell you I wanted to drop out at least once a semester... I think the biggest things that contributed to me sticking around to graduation was: I was working full time in the lab at the university so was already planning on doing part time class work, my classes were (mostly) online (more on that later), and my boss/master's advisor's wife has a lot of health issues too, so he's been super sympathetic and flexible with my reduced energy and increased brain fog.
For school, I did not have accommodations my first semester but did get them set up for either my second or third semester. Most of my classes were online because my degree was mostly online and it was during the part of covid when people...cared. But I did have a few in person classes that I worked with my professors to make sure I had access to zoom when I couldn't make it in person--that's probably harder for med school, but it might be worth asking for! Other accommodations were with a case-by-case extended deadline, extra time on exams, small snacks and water in class and exams, and being able to put my feet up in class. I tried to get an accommodation for an index card of notes for brain fog, but the school required more hoops for something like that so I didn't go for it, but it might be worth at least asking for.
For work, I'm currently in a weird place where we moved away from the university for my husband's job, but I was still able to finish my thesis remotely, and I still work for the lab--just remotely and part time. I help with journal manuscripts and putting together experiment sheets right now. But I probably do need to find a new position sooner than later. I'm currently looking for positions with the state health department because I know they do more remote work than my local health department. I'm also hoping when/if I do get a new job, that I'll be able to get accommodations for a more flexible schedule--including less required in person time if possible--and possibly trying to be part time. My big thing is I *can* work, I just need to be able to recline and turn the lights down/off which is hard to do in an office or lab setting. When I WAS still in person and full time at the lab, my office was just shared with me and a coworker/friend who was totally fine with me turning off the lights in the office and working in the dark. We also had an extra table that was supposed to be used for other computers/laptops and paperwork and stuff, but I used it to lie down on after being in the lab for extended periods of time. When I was in the lab, some of the labs got really hot, especially under all the PPE, so I found spraying my gown and gloves with the ethanol helped to promote some evaporative cooling to keep my heat intolerance in check. I found that communicating with my coworkers and supervisors about when I needed breaks or accommodations was super helpful. Working with SARS-CoV-2, we were in Tyvek suits and PAPRs in a sectioned off portion of the BSL-3 lab, and I'd often overheat in there, so I made sure I was going back with a lab partner and took regular breaks to leave the SARS2 room, take off the PAPR, and get some air for a minute and rest.
Like anything with ME/CFS, pacing is going to be the hardest but most important part to figure out. And science requires a lot of mental exertion, so even if you're "just" reading papers or running data analysis or whatever, taking regular breaks and taking it slow is really important. Some school disability resource centers have screen readers you can borrow, and if reading becomes difficult, it may be worth asking if you can get one so you can listen instead.
I'm not sure how it works with med school--I had originally planned to do vet school eventually, but I got distracted by research and public health so went the MPH route, but planned to go to vet school eventually until I got sick. But I know vet school class schedules are super strict and take a lot of time and I don't know if I'd be able to adapt it, so I'm not trying too hard to get to vet school anymore, but I think it'd definitely be worth having a conversation with your professors, the doctors you'll be working with, and the disability center at your school to try to figure out what the best way is to get things done without making yourself any sicker. Find ways to reduce stimulation and symptoms while you're working so hopefully you need fewer major breaks--for me, that's things like managing my orthostatic intolerance by reclining/putting my feet up/lying down/staying hydrated/staying cool and then also reducing light--either turning the lights off or using light sensitivity glasses (I used my HSA to get Avulux/Axon glasses and they work really well but they are expensive so going with a cheaper brand if you have any light sensitivity probably works just fine too!). I know some people benefit from noise filtering and use Loops. Mobility aids are a life saver. I didn't apply, but my university had a limited amount of electric wheelchairs and scooters they could lend to students every semester, if you don't have a mobility aid that works for you yet, it might be worth checking if you school has any available. Really just doing anything you can to keep symptoms down while you're studying and researching can help keep you functional longer, and that's kinda been what I've managed to do. I've straight up brought heating pads to work/class and the only comments I usually got were either 1) "are you okay?" or 2) "Oh, that's GENIUS," so don't be afraid to just...do what you need to do and use what you need to use! I hope something here helped?

Introduction
Rosemary, Rosmarinus officinalis, is a bush with fragrant, evergreen, needle-like leaves and white, pink, purple, or blue flowers. Native to the Mediterranean region, it is a member of the mint family Lamiaceae, which includes over 7,000 species.
The name "rosemary" derives from the Latin words "ros", meaning "dew" and "marinus," meaning "sea" - "dew of the sea". Rosemary has been in culinary use since at least 500 B.C.
☽⦁──────── ⦁🌿⦁ ────────⦁☾
History & Mythology
In Greek mythology, it's said to have been draped around the Greek goddess Aphrodite when she rose from the sea. Another legend says that the Virgin Mary spread her blue cloak over a white-blossomed rosemary bush while she was resting, and the flowers turned blue. The shrub then became known as the "Rose of Mary".
The herb then made its way east to China and was naturalized there as early as 220 AD, during the late Han Dynasty.
Rosemary came to England at an unknown date; the Romans probably brought it when they invaded in the first century, but there are no viable records about rosemary arriving in Britain until the 8th century. This was credited to Charlemagne, who promoted herbs in general, and ordered rosemary to be grown in monastic gardens and farms.
The plant or its oil have been used in folk medicine in the belief it may have medicinal effects. Rosemary was considered sacred to ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks. In Don Quixote, the fictional hero uses rosemary in his recipe for balm of fierabras.
The plant has been used as a symbol for remembrance during war commemorations and funerals in Europe and Australia. Mourners would throw it into graves as a symbol of remembrance for the dead. In Australia, sprigs of rosemary are worn on ANZAC Day and sometimes Remembrance Day to signify remembrance; the herb grows wild on the Gallipoli Peninsula, where many Australians died during World War I.

Health Benefits
Antioxidants & Anti-inflammatory
Rosemary is a rich source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, which are thought to help boost the immune system and improve blood circulation.
Laboratory studies have shown rosemary to be rich in antioxidants, which play an important role in neutralizing harmful particles called free radicals.
Improving Digestion
In Europe, rosemary is often used to help treat indigestion. In fact, Germany’s Commission E has approved rosemary for the treatment of indigestion. However, it should be noted that there is currently no meaningful scientific evidence to support this claim.
Enhancing Memory & Concentration
According to research outlined in Therapeutic Advances in Psychopharmacology, the aroma from rosemary can improve a person’s concentration, performance, speed, and accuracy and, to a lesser extent, their mood.
Neurological Protection
Scientists have found that rosemary may also be good for your brain. Rosemary contains an ingredient called carnosic acid, which can fight off damage by free radicals in the brain.
Some studies in rats have identified that rosemary might be useful for people who have experienced a stroke. Rosemary appears to be protective against brain damage and might improve recovery.
Prevent Brain Aging
Some studies have suggested that rosemary may significantly help prevent brain aging. The therapeutic ability of rosemary for prevention of Alzheimer’s shows promise, but more studies are needed.
Cancer
Research published in Oncology Reports found that “crude ethanolic rosemary extract (RO)” slowed the spread of human leukemia and breast carcinoma cells.”
Another study, published in Bioscience, Biotechnology and Biochemistry, concluded that rosemary might be useful as an anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor agent.
Protection Against Macular Degeneration
A study published in the journal Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, led by Dr. Stuart A. Lipton, Ph.D. and colleagues at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, revealed that a carnosic acid, which is a major component of rosemary, can significantly promote eye health.
This could have clinical applications for diseases affecting the outer retina, such as age-related macular degeneration – the most common eye disease in the United States.
☽⦁──────── ⦁🌿⦁ ────────⦁☾
Magickal Uses
Rosemary is one of the most important Old World magickal herbs. There is an enormous amount of Rosemary folklore. It has been used for cleansing and purifying incenses since ancient times.
Especially in Old World witchcraft, Rosemary is burned to purify a room or ritual space before magickal workings.
Burn Rosemary and Juniper together to drive the staleness from a home after a long and lingering illness.
Rosemary is useful for all spells to accelerate learning in school or work. Sniff a sprig of Rosemary while studying to improve your performance on an exam.
A married woman may keep a sachet of Rosemary near the entrance of her home (or under her bed) to ensure a faithful and obedient partner.
Cleanse and consecrate athames, wands, and crystals with Rosemary oil. (Frankincense oil is traditional for this purpose, but Rosemary may be a better choice for the Green witch.)
Rosemary sprigs are pliable when fresh—weave them into garlands and wreathes for home blessings and handfastings.
A Rosemary ritual bath or “tub tea” is said to remove worries and invigorate the spirit. You can also drink Rosemary tea for this purpose, but the taste is quite bitter.
A Rosemary bush in the garden is supposed to attract elves and repel thieves.
☽⦁──────── ⦁🌿⦁ ────────⦁☾
Correspondences
Rosemary grows in full sun and has a bright, assertive smell that overpowers everything else in a fragrance blend or recipe. The appropriate planetary correspondence is the Sun. (Citing Rosemary’s early Goddess lore, some writers go with Venus.)
Once the Solar correspondence is established, the attributions of Leo and Fire seem to be applied by extension. Rosemary does have the boldness of Leo, flame-shaped bushes, and the Fire-like attribute of spiny leaves. But it is altogether less noxious than pure Fire herbs.
And its traditional uses lean more toward cleansing/healing/clarity than to courage/protection/aggression. I prefer to assign the whole plant to Fire, and the brisk, stimulating fragrance to Air.
Spells
Love, protection, healing, psychic detox, banishing, sleep, memory, cleansing, lust, concentration, nightmare protection, purification, fertility
Deities
Aphrodite, Hebe, Persephone, Venus
Element
Fire
Planets
Sun / Moon
Zodiac
Leos
Chakras
Solar plexus, heart, crown
☽⦁──────── ⦁🌿⦁ ────────⦁☾
Precautions
Taking large amounts of rosemary can cause vomiting, uterine bleeding, kidney irritation, increased sun sensitivity, skin redness, and allergic reactions. When applied to the skin: Rosemary oil is possibly sage for most people when applied to the skin for medicinal purposes.

Ashwagandha's Health Benefits According to Science
Tumblr media
Ashwagandha (withania somnifera) is popularly known as the king of Ayurvedic herbs. Ayurveda is a form of alternative medicine based on Indian principles of natural healing. It is an incredibly healthy botanical, often referred to as Indian Ginseng. It is a small plant with yellow flowers that is native to India and North Africa.
It is classified as an adaptogenic herb, and while all adaptogens reduce stress (cortisol), ashwagandha’s ability to do so is superior to the rest.
Ashwagandha has many benefits for the brain, where it can increase energy, sharpen focus, and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. It has been used this way for over 3,000 years.
Its name literally means “smell of a horse” since it was said to bestow the strength and stamina of a horse on anyone who used it. An Ayurvedic scholar from 100BC, Charaka, said of Ashwagandha, “One obtains longevity, regains youth, gets a sharp memory and intellect and freedom from diseases, gets a lustrous complexion, and strength of a horse.”
The most well-known active ingredients in Ashwagandha are withanolides. Alongside these valuable compounds are many other beneficial elements, including flavonoids and antioxidants such as catalase, superoxide dismutase and glutathione, which is known as the “mother of all antioxidants.” It also contains alkaloids, amino acids (including tryptophan), neurotransmitters, sterols, tannins, lignans and triterpenes. It is these valuable compounds together that allow for ashwagandha’s hugely beneficial pharmacological activities.
Due to the combined benefits of the herb’s valuable compounds, we used a 60:1 full-spectrum concentrated extract, which is made up of at least 5% withanolides. This means that each 100mg serve in a Savvy product is equivalent to 6grams of this superherb!
The reason we love it in our Savvy products is because Ashwagandha has been proven to:
Reduce stress, anxiety, and mental fatigue; and
Increase mood, enhance brain function and improve memory; and
Boost performance + energy while being a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant; and
Support healthy brains and hearts.
We will now delve into the scientific evidence behind the benefits of this amazing herb. For each scientific resource, at Savvy, we have referenced the study, linked to it and also provided an interesting quote from the study. Occasionally, we will also provide further commentary on the study.
Please note that we have referenced the scientific literature that support the benefits of ashwagandha, and to make it easier to read, we have 'indented' every second resource.
Each reference will have a quoted excerpt from the scientific literature, and occasional observations made about the evidence as well.
We really hope you enjoy a look into the many years of research we have compiled when formulating Savvy...
Benefit 1 - Ashwagandha can reduce stress, anxiety, and mental fatigue
Ashwagandha’s chief benefit is that it actually annihilates stress in the body. Ashwagandha improves our resistance to stress and studies show that it thereby improves people’s self-assessed quality of life. Ashwagandha is extremely dynamic in how it combats stress and fatigue!
The study, below, found ashwagandha lowered stress and anxiety by over 60% from consistent use. The reference to the study is:
Chandrasekhar, K. et al. ‘A prospective, randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled study of safety and efficacy of a high-concentration full-spectrum extract of ashwagandha root in reducing stress and anxiety in adults.’ in Indian Journal of psychological medicine. Volume 34, issue 3, July 2012, pp 255-262. [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23439798]
After the findings in this study, the authors concluded:
“The findings of this study suggest that a high-concentration full-spectrum Ashwagandha root extract safely and effectively improves an individual's resistance towards stress and thereby improves self-assessed quality of life.”
The above study found that Ashwagandha helps with multiple levels of stress, these being cortisol levels, anxiety and insomnia. In the study, 64 healthy participants were enrolled, between the ages of 18 and 54. Half were given Ashwagandha daily for 60 days, and the other half got a placebo.
The Ashwagandha group saw improvements to their stress baseline by 69.7%, 64.2%, and 75.6%. These improvements were across all three measures including cortisol, anxiety, and insomnia.
The below graph from this trial clearly shows the power of this herb as it influences the body over 60 days from baseline!
Tumblr media
PSS is the Perceived Stress Score (which dropped by 44% over 60 days)
GHQ-28 measures levels of anxiety, nervousness, social dysfunction, depression. (Levels of which dropped by 72.3% over 60 days)
DASS (Depression Anxiety Stress Scale) (Levels of which dropped by 71.6% over 60 days)
Serum Cortisol levels - (useful to assess the effect of the treatment on cortisol (the stress hormone in your body) level) (Which dropped by 27.9% over 60 days)
Further scientific evidence that support the benefits of Ashwagandha:
Auddy, B. et al. ‘A Standardized withania somnifera extract significantly reduces stress-related parameters in chronically stressed humans: A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study‘ in JANA, Volume 11, Issue 1, 2008, pp 50-56.

In the above study, over 6 weeks, 88.2% of the people who took ashwagandha reported a reduction in anxiety.

In the above study, when anxiety levels were measured after the 12-week period, the group who received ashwagandha had anxiety scores that decreased by 55 percent and the psychotherapy group’s scores decreased by 30.5 percent. Showing that Ashwagandha can even outperform psychotherapy.
“Seventy-five participants (93%) were followed for 8 or more weeks on the trial. Final BAI scores decreased by 56.5% (p<0.0001) in the NC group… Significant differences between groups were also observed in mental health, concentration, fatigue, social functioning, vitality, and overall quality of life with the NC group exhibiting greater clinical benefit. No serious adverse reactions were observed in either group.”
Benefit 2 - Ashwagandha can increase mood, sharpen focus and enhance memory
Ashwagandha supplements may improve mood, brain function, memory, reaction times and the ability to perform tasks.
Scientific Studies:

“Modern lifestyle and sustained stress of professional commitments in the current societal set up often disrupts the normal sleep cycle and duration which is known to lead to cognitive impairments. In the present study, we report whether leaf extract of Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) has potential neuroprotective role in acute stress of sleep deprivation.
This data suggest that Ashwagandha may be a potential agent to suppress the acute effects of sleep loss on learning and memory impairments and may emerge as a novel supplement to control SD-induced cognitive impairments.”
In the above 60-day study in stressed adults, those who took 600 mg per day reported a 79% reduction in severe depression. Interestingly, at the same time, the placebo group reported a 10% increase.

“After eight weeks of study, the ashwagandha treatment group demonstrated significant improvements compared with the placebo group in both immediate and general memory. The treatment group also demonstrated significantly greater improvement in executive function, sustained attention, and information-processing speed.
Ashwagandha may be effective in enhancing both immediate and general memory in people with MCI as well as improving executive function, attention, and information processing speed.”
Benefit 3 - Ashwagandha can boost performance + energy while being a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant
Because ashwagandha works as an adaptogen that can reduce the body’s stress hormones, it can help to boost your immune system and reduce inflammation within the body. Due to its positive, calming-yet-energising effects on the brain, and its ability to lower stress hormones, ashwagandha showed improvements in concentration, motivation and stamina in conducted studies.

Chill pill series
These characters all work at a clinic for faster and more efficient medical care. It’s quite obscure but the workers get the job done...most of the time. Killing/murder is strictly prohibited.
Paracetamol: Two sides to the same coin. On the clock, he’s rather brash, cold and bitter— strict and condescending with patients. He says it’s because of protocol as the rules state that in order for the patient to safely take the medicine, they must be in a certain frame of mind to do so— he just takes it too far, much like a switch in his brain. It may be an alter ego or a disorder. None of the clinic founders have been able to find out as of yet. When he isn’t working he’s: polite, welcoming, friendly and very reliable but there is only so much he can do. If the patient displays reactions to pain of a much larger scale, they will be transferred. If Paracetamol has too many patients however, he can become susceptible to overdosing on...himself. The limit hasn’t yet been gauged so his breaks are based on his behaviour. If it seems like he’s becoming slower mentally and physically, he’ll be ordered to close up for the day and rest.
In order to take paracetamol, the patient is asked to sit, close their eyes and open their mouth as wide as possible. There, Para will insert two or more fingers without touching the patient in any way and disperse his powder down their throat. This makes it easier for the drug to go straight into their bloodstream and take effect.

Vaccine: Vaccine is germaphobic bookworm. He prides himself on being knowledgeable and more reliable than the rest, however as he is more significant to saving a patient’s life, he was sentenced to private medical schooling in order to unlock his full potential. He is rather studious and quite proud but also timid and paranoid. His childhood friend is Heimlich as they were born around about the same time.
As he takes after the form of a syringe, he has fangs. In order to give patients their vaccinations, he is to bite them in the area they would otherwise be injected.
Tumblr media
Heimlich: The Heimlich manoeuvre. His sole purpose is to save choking victims. His past however is rather dark and so had to be covered up lest the clinic be branded with a bad reputation.
As Heimlich is different to his other colleagues/siblings in the sense that he is essentially a method Process. Verb. Not a medication— His make up is rather unique. Kinetic energy runs in his veins so he will not bleed. The issue with this is that kinetic energy in large amounts can be catastrophic.
When Heimlich was born, he was basically a bulldozer. He knew nothing but action and couldn’t speak yet. He’d destroy everything in sight and so had to be ‘put down’ or ‘redone’. This left a scar on the tip of his left shoulder. (Lethal injection scar.)
Upon being reborn, he was tamer...too tame. When coming into contact with a choking dummy, he only watched it struggle and writhe until death with a blank expression. And so, another do-over was needed.
Next rebirth had him almost completely normal. He was obedient but begun developing his own personality. He’d become flippant and soon rebellious. The clinic founders overlooked it as a phase and allowed him the chance to have his first try at saving a choking patient as he’d managed to convince them that he was ready. Bad move. His first patient was violent and erratic. They wouldn’t let him touch them and continued running. Irritated by this, Heimlich grabbed them, growing violent himself. Trying to hold them still, he used his built-up energy too quickly and managed to break their neck. No remorse. This sent a wave of bad news through the press and the clinic begun to sink.
As a result, Heimlich was locked up in a freezer room in the hopes that the cold would slow down energy storage system. The founders thought it a good idea to leave this experience in his memory banks as it would deter him from doing it again once he was let out. Another wrong move. This caused a lot of animosity and resentment to grow within him as he was made to play back those events within his subconscious during his comatose period. 2 weeks. When he was let out, he wouldn’t speak or look at anybody but behaved himself up until he was permitted another attempt at saving a patient. This was his plan.
Once presented with another choking patient, he displayed signs of sociopathy. Grabbing a scalpel, he held it up to their face and asked them “Are you scared of me?”. Of course, the individual couldn’t answer but their response was no less than fearful. He continued all the while slowly approaching them. “Do you want me to help you? Will you run away? Does it hurt? Are you suffering.” The founders grew suspicious but were too slow to act.
“Don’t worry. I’ll save you.”
With that, the patient’s throat was promptly slitted opened. Yes, the item that was lodged in their throat was removed but only through swimming in a pool of their blood. Mission accomplished. At this point, he was well aware of the consequences and so accepted his punishment with a grin. His memories were completely wiped along with his knowledge of his own abilities. He was taught The Heimlich manoeuvre and nothing else. All he knows is to save choking patients without damaging them unless it’s necessary but only to the least degree i.e. bruising if force necessary. The rest would be taught in a controlled environment by a highly trained professional— medical school.
Despite his memories gone, he held his personality and ability to speak. As a reckless and rebellious personnel, he found a loophole and so if patients struggle in any way or make it difficult for him, he’ll use force which sometimes ends in vomit but bruising is more common. In case he goes rogue again, a security implant was embedded in his chest during his last rebirth which can shut him down and burn him out if absolutely necessary.
He is a delinquent and will skip class almost constantly but he has a soft spot for his tutor. At this current moment, he’s been schooled for a year.
—————
On his first day of class, he came in late. After being scolded, he challenged the tutor but wasn’t taken up on the offer and was put in his place. Sulking, he sat and listened to the teachings. As he was listening however, there were things he’d picked up on.
The scolding wasn’t degrading and he admired how this tutor was able to render him without a comeback. The way he spoke. It was unusual to him as he himself didn’t take seriously anything academical, but this was different. Fascinating. He’d find himself staring, forgetting to keep ignoring the lesson as to emphasise the fact that he didn’t care. His face. Could he call it handsome? He wasn’t sure. He just remembered the word but wasn’t sure where he’d learned it from. He knew he liked to see his tutor though. But one thing he was absolutely certain of was that he enjoyed being scolded by this person— causing trouble would always be worth it if this person would be the only one to reprimand him.
When Vaccine is praised for being a good student, Heimlich displays obvious signs of jealousy and so will act up just for the attention. His tutor is like a game he’d constantly want to play with and never grow bored. Next to that, he’s curious about his own attraction and so wants to push it whenever he can, so he will flirt casually without any regards to the mood. More often than not, that’s during detention.

Ethanol: (rubbing alcohol). Really shitty at flute playing. Helps patients by puking alcohol on the wounds or into a cloth to wash the wound. As a result of this, his fluids get drained quickly so he becomes his version of anaemic. From there, he’s to be transferred to ‘farm/hospital’ having his fluids replenished for over a period of a few days to weeks— it depends. Anaemia can occur sooner or later.
He’s also Heimlich’s best friend.

chapter 19: it's not a joke
Wednesday, October 31st, 1990
“Cora? Hey, uhm, can we talk?”
Shit, I wish I hadn’t whirled around so fast, I’m fucking dizzy now. But even through the neon lights of the bar and the shafts of light from the disco ball and the crazy colors of everyone’s costumes flying across my field of vision, it’s hard to miss the sight I wanted to see most. One pair of Stone eyes, two pairs of Stone eyes, four pairs of Stone eyes, eight pairs of Stone eyes, kaleidoscoping around disobediently, STOP that... okay okay, now four pairs of Stone eyes, two, and finally just the one pair, sparkling with amusement. His hand stays on my elbow, steady and firm, the only electrical signal reaching my brain that allows me to figure out where to look in order to ground myself.
“Uh huh.” God. Smooth, Cora.
I feel his fingers slip down my forearm and interlock with mine before he turns around and gives my hand a gentle tug. His grip stays tight as he pulls me through the crowd, and I allow myself be towed in his wake, letting the image of him walking in front of me steady my senses, wondering how in the hell I’ve known this man for almost six months and never noticed what a great ass he has… and just what am I supposed to do with that information, god damn it, stop staring at him like an object, he’s a human being, he’s your friend, he’s --
“Ow, Jesus! Personal space!”
He looks over his shoulder with a grin after stopping short at the door, because I’ve just collided hard with his back.
“Sorry, just sudden. A little warning would have been nice,” I grumble.
“That's what she said.”
“Aww, my sympathies to all your ex-girlfriends.”
He offers no retort because he's still too busy cackling at his own cleverness, so I abandon him and find a spot on the curb a little ways down from the door where I don't think we'll be tripped over too much. It takes a little bit of a fight to get the pleats of this stupid little skirt arranged so that I don't flash all of Seattle, though, and in my current state of inebriation it's not a graceful battle… how did I let Lucy talk me into wearing something so short, this is all her fault…
“I like that skirt, is it new?”
In my preoccupation, I hadn't noticed him sitting down next to me. Fantastic, so he's been watching my struggle this whole time with that stupid smug look on his face.
“Ohhhkay, fine, out with it.”
“Out with what?”
“Don't play dumb, Stone.”
“I'm not…” his brow creases.
“I know, I know, this skirt’s ridiculous, I can't wait to burn the damn thing tomorrow, I’ve been fighting with it all night, so of course you’ve got some devastating sarcastic crack to unleash about it, come on… out with it.”
“Oh, of course, it would be inconceivable that I might actually pay you a compliment free of irony.”
“First time for everything.”
“You're such a sweetheart,” he sneers.
“You have no room to talk. Speaking of talking…?” I raise my eyebrows expectantly.
“Huh? Oh. Uh, it was just getting kinda stuffy in there. I don't know, it's nicer out here.”
“Suit yourself, but I was winning an argument.”
“What the hell were you guys talking about, anyway?”
“Whether free will exists. What do you think?”
He blinks and crumples up his features, shaking his head in exasperation. “This is what you think about when you’re drunk?”
“Excuse me,” I adjust my skirt again and straighten up, “I am not drunk, I’m just ethanol-enhanced.”
“Yeah well, you’re pretty enhanced right now, if you get what I’m saying...”
“You underestimate me, Stoner, I can hold my whiskey. So, what do you think?”
He frowns. “About free will?”
“Mmhmm.”
“Shit, I don’t know… help me out, where did you guys leave off?”
“You’re not getting off that easy, what do you think?”
He sighs and narrows his eyes at me, pursing his lips in a resigned smile. “Well, I’m willing to bet you don’t believe in anything that can’t be explained scientifically --”
“-- that’s because everything can be explained scientifically --”
“-- oh, stop being so modest… and Kim probably thought that was hilarious and wanted to play devil’s advocate with some kind of metaphysical bullshit.”
“You’re about up to speed, yeah.”
He sighs. “Okay, uhm… I guess I just don’t see why it matters.”
“How so?”
“I mean, I think the whole idea of free will really just exists to punish people for not doing what they’re supposed to. Like, if we look at it your way, then everything we do, whether it’s the tiniest reflex or a big life decision, has an explainable cause, so we’re not really in control of anything, tough shit. My dog has as much freedom to decide to run after the stick I throw as to decide whether or not to have a seizure, which is to say none at all.”
“Aw, you really do have a geriatric dog, huh?”
“Yeah, she’s a senior citizen,” he says sadly. “But like, if we want to talk about freedom, then isn’t it really just to create some ownership of certain kinds of actions but not others? I guess I care less about whether free will exists than why people want it to exist.”
“Right. At what point does an infant stop being this blameless, innocent little potato and start being a kid that their parents can blame for misbehaving?”
“Yeah, or like, addiction. We talk about it like it’s a big moral failing, like there’s some kind of choice involved, and maybe at some level there is, but like, I don’t know if you know any addicts…” he sighs, looking terrifyingly fragile all of a sudden, “but I think the whole reason society wants to hold people responsible for shit like that is to be able to, like, impose consequences for ‘fucking up,’” he frames his words with air quotes.
“Like there aren’t enough of those already,” I add quietly, hating myself for clumsily letting the conversation steer into such a painful topic.
“Right. I mean,” he shifts his posture, and some of his normal composure returns, “I guess there’s something kind of romantic about feeling like you’re the master of your own destiny, but I think we mostly use it as a stick to beat people with.”
“What the fuck does ‘romantic’ even mean, anyway?” I snort.
“Uh uh, nope, you’re cut off -- we need several more drinks before we solve any more of life’s mysteries.”
“Now you’re talking,” I hook my arm in his and start to stand up, pulling on him to join me, but he resists, so I let go of him and sit back down. “What’s up?”
“Well, uh, I actually did want to talk to you about something.”
Of course. He’s suddenly engrossed in watching his own fidgeting fingers, which is all I can stare at now as well. Damn it, Stone, you're making me nervous...
“Okay, shoot.”
“I was talking to Jeff just now, he thinks, uh… he was thinking… there’s something going on.”
My mind goes blank. I'm not ready for this. Too drunk. Not drunk enough. “Going on… between us?”
He scoffs. “No, actually, he wants to cover the song on the record. You know, Frida? I knowww there's something going onnn…”
“You're such an asshole,” I elbow him, but he's occupied rocking out to the beat in his head and playing air guitar.
“But like, super heavy, crunchy, distorted guitars… it’d be pretty sweet, right?”
“I think that's a little out of Eddie's register!”
We both collect our laughter gradually, not rushing back to the topic, because we both know damn well that we’re not sitting out on this curb because Jeff Ament harbors a burning desire to cover Frida.
“Yeah, between us,” he concedes when he's finally straight-faced again. “He thinks something's up here.”
He’s right, isn't he? I want to ask, but the words are lodged somewhere in my throat in a thicket of panic. Of course Jeff’s right, I’m not an idiot, I know that Stone and I are not just friends. I know that. I’ve known that for a while now. I just don't know what that makes us, or what the hell I’m supposed to do about it. I’ve been hiding from this thing for way too long, and now it’s out of control. The options blur around and around my mind, as if on a carousel. Deny it? The thought is physically painful… Laugh it off? No, that’s even worse… Come clean? But I can hardly admit it to myself, let alone him. The thought of owning up to all of this, disentangling it, is just too much to handle tonight, there’s not enough whiskey in the world… I decide to let simplicity win, or maybe it's just cowardice.
“What did you tell him?”
“I told them they should mind their own business,” he says bluntly.
“Them?”
“Yeah, well, I kinda got the sense Lucy had the same idea.”
“Ah.” My heart starts to ache. I should have talked to her. God, I’m the worst friend, I should have talked to her about this days ago, I know she of all people would have listened and tried to understand, and maybe she could even have helped me figure out what I’m supposed to do about it.
“Well, and… Mike's brought it up once or twice. Chris said something a while back.”
“Are you kidding me? Did I miss a newsletter or something? God, they’re so full of shit.”
His shoulders shake with a single silent laugh, but his eyes are focused on the asphalt. “Nothing new there.”
“Fucking ridiculous,” I add, figuring that if we’re going for denial then I might as well commit, although it’s just as painful as I thought it would be.
“Right, I mean, just because we’ve been spending a lot of time together doesn’t mean… shit…” his hands begin to fidget again, and we’re both watching them like they’re a sideshow.
“Right,” I echo, feeling like my chest might cave in at any moment.
“Right? You’ve got a boyfriend. Like, nothing could ever happen, I would never…” he trails off, shaking his head.
“No, I know, me either!”
“But like… we have been, you know, getting a lot closer, especially over the last week, and I’m not gonna… I won’t pretend like that doesn’t mean anything to me.”
I can feel him watching me, waiting for me to affirm that this evolution between us has been mutual. And of course it has. But what am I supposed to say? That yes, this has been the best week of my life, and it’s all because I’ve been pretending that this suspended animation we’re in is actually real life, but I know that in one way or another it’s all about to come crashing down? Admitting that doesn’t make anything easier or simpler. I love you for climbing out on this limb, Stone, I just can’t join you.
When I finally find words, I hear myself saying the only thing I can think of that’s both true and safe.
“You’re one of my best friends.”
“You too.”
But the look in his eyes and the hush in his voice is anything but safe. Feeling increasingly frantic to scramble back to familiar territory, I cast around for a way to turn our situation into something we can laugh at.
“Well, I think we’re looking at this thing all wrong.”
“Really?” he arches an eyebrow.
“Yeah, I mean, here’s a gift-wrapped opportunity to fuck with our friends, if we wanna take it. You know, really follow through on the whole scandal.”
A smile curves one half of his mouth as he says hesitantly, “what’d you have in mind?”
“Oh, I don't even know,” I think for a moment, letting the whiskey do the talking for a change, “just like, conspicuously disappear together into a supply closet for a pretend quickie and come out five minutes later looking all disheveled, just to see what they do?”
He gapes at me. “Five minutes?? You think that's all we’d need? Jesus, Cora… I’m insulted.”
“My mistake. Stone Gossard, the Sixty Minute Man, I presume?”
“Try me,” he smirks.
“Pass,” I laugh.
“Hey! I mean it! I can provide references!”
“Come on, haven't those poor girls been through enough?”
“Oh, you're in so much trouble,” he grins, looking away.
“We’d make a terrible couple, you know. We’re too similar. We’d fight all the damn time.”
“Yeah, but I bet the makeup sex would be off the charts,” he dodges the swipe I just aimed at the side of his head.
“Why do I hang out with such perverted filth, ugh.”
He lets his eyes zone out as he intones, “one of us, one of us...”
“Lucky me. Hey, it’s freezing out here, you wanna get back inside?”
We stand up and brush off the dirt from the curb before he turns to me, rubbing my arms vigorously with his hands and wearing a broad grin.
“I think it’s really adorable how easily you get cold.”
“I think it’s really adorable how easily you get patronizing.”
I stick my tongue out at him, he readjusts the cat ears in my hair, and it almost feels like we're back to our normal bullshit before he looks intently at me and pulls a deep breath.
“I actually think we’d do alright, for the record. At the whole couple thing.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. I mean, come on, we’ve probably both dealt with worse.”
“If this is your application to be considered boyfriend material, you might want to aim a little higher than ‘you’ve seen worse.’”
“I’m totally boyfriend material. I did your dishes,” he says slyly, holding the door open.
“Yeah, and to spare your feelings, I conveniently left out the part where I had to wash them all again the next morning.”
He forces a little pout, but that half-smile I love so much washes it away without too much effort. “I never said I did them well…”
***
The first person I make eye contact with when we’re back inside is Jeff, which comes as no surprise because I’m positive he and Lucy have been watching the door like hawks ever since Cora and I left. Cora’s got the right idea, though: without another word or glance in my direction, she makes a beeline for Lucy, wraps her up in a back-breaking hug, and the two of them are rapidly absorbed in a conversation I can’t hear from this side of the room.
I should follow her lead. Partly because I need to get my nosy fucking bassist to stop staring at me, and partly because I need to drink that conversation out of my head as quickly as possible. I chickened out, I hate to admit. I know we need to figure this shit out sooner rather than later, but it’s just so much easier to keep joking with her about it. But I meant what I told her about what she means to me, it’s not a joke…
Eddie saves me from myself with a beer, followed by another one bought by Chris, and I lose sight of Cora in the crowd for most of the night. Well, that's not entirely true. I spent an agonizing several minutes talking to Jeff while trying my level best not to openly stare over his shoulder at Cora while she and Lucy were dancing over by the bar to Iggy Pop. Jesus, that purple skirt is definitely my new favorite...
But I'm more or less successful at seeming disinterested until until we’re all congregating by the cars and figuring out how everyone plans to get home.
“Where’s Mike?” Lucy, the only sober one in the group, cranes her neck to peer back inside.
“You didn’t see him stumble out of here with Selene a while back?” I answer.
“No way!” Jeff shouts.
“Oh yeah. The two of them were quite a sight. The KISS makeup definitely wasn’t kissproof, let’s just put it that way.”
“Okay, so that’s one lost lamb accounted for,” Lucy muses. “Stone, your car’s back at our place? You wanna take the couch?”
I thank her and take her up on the offer, and Jeff and I are busy making plans for another mountain biking trip this weekend when Cora materializes from somewhere behind me. I try to keep my voice as casual as possible because I know Jeff's watching closely.
“What about it, Red? Duthie Hill, Saturday? They have some good trails.”
But she bites her lips in, which with all of her facepaint makes the cat look like it’s grinding its teeth, and Jeff speaks up. “She can’t, man, she doesn’t have a bike, remember?”
“What??” I realize I’m shouting when Eddie's head whips around sharply to frown at me, so I try to tone it down.”Yes you do, the green one, that was a really nice bike! What happened to it?”
She cringes. “I sorta… gave it away…”
“When did that happen?” I ask her in a much lower voice, trying to be conscious of my volume.
“I gave it to Patch,” she says simply.
“She’s being modest, she’s the best big sister in the world and she didn’t want her kid brother to move to a new city without some way of getting around.” Lucy wraps Cora up in another one of their tight hugs, and despite the makeup, I can see my amazing, giving, kindhearted girl blushing as she gives me a “kill me now” look. I’m sure my own expression is entertaining too, but I couldn’t care less. The feeling in my chest as I stare back at her is the kind of thing that crowds out any self-consciousness. I didn’t think it was possible to love her more, but here we are.
“Cor? You around tomorrow? Lunch date? Cyclops?” Lucy asks, and from within the headlock, Cora nods enthusiastically in response to each question.
“Okay, enough standing around, it's freezing,” she says in a muffled voice around Lucy’s forearm before she breaks loose and bolts towards the Corolla.
Jeff obviously takes shotgun, since no one would dare try to argue him out of sitting next to Lucy, and anyway I’ve got no interest in sitting up front. Eddie sits behind Jeff and immediately leans forward, striking up an animated conversation about basketball, which is perfect because it leaves Cora and me completely undisturbed.
All I want to do is restart our conversation somehow, try for a do-over, tell her that it’s not really a joke, that I want to know how she feels, that I want to give this a try, that I really do care what an impossible position that puts her in and I want to talk about it and try to figure it out together, that yes, she is one of my best friends, but what if that’s not the end of what we are but the start of what we could be…
Of course, we’re both too drunk for that conversation to happen tonight, and there are way too many witnesses. And anyway, she’s determined not to look at me because she’s too busy pretending to care about Jeff and Eddie’s speculations for the start of the NBA season. I’ve almost resigned myself to joining her when I feel her thigh drift over towards mine and apply a steady pressure. And now I know that none of it matters. None of the equivocation, none of the bullshit jokes, none of the obstacles. Only this person matters. We’ll figure the rest out as we go.
I reach over to her lap and brush the back of her hand with mine, hoping to tell her just a fraction of what I should have told her outside, but I’m not prepared for how quickly she turns her hand over and laces her fingers into mine. Feeling like I’ve just had the wind knocked out of me in the best way, I look sideways at her and am rewarded with that warm, open smile of hers, beautiful even through all the facepaint. It's not a joke. This is enough. Just holding her hand in the darkness, smiling at her and seeing her smile back at me as the streetlights flash past us, this is all I need right now.
***
Thursday, November 1, 1990
“So on a scale of one to ten, how hungover were you this morning?”
Cora screws up her face. “I mean, it wasn’t an apocalyptic experience, and it was definitely nothing like the Bushmills night  --” she chuckles as I fake a gag “-- but it wasn’t pretty. Maybe a six?”
“Oh yeah, hissing at daylight and shunning all human contact? Good thing you’re not working this shift, I’m betting you wouldn’t set a new personal best for tips earned.”
“Not unless they’re pity tips. I didn’t even realize until I’d already walked over here that I’d missed a spot of the paint when I washed my face. How did the guys do?”
“Jeff and Ed were still out cold when I left for work. I think they’re probably in a world of hurt by now, though.”
“And Stone?”
Her voice is neutral, and her attention seems to be focused on her quesadilla, but she doesn’t fool me. I know exactly what’s going on inside her head. She’s in that place where you think about someone so often that you start to become embarrassed about how often their name pops out of your mouth, so you start to wait for strategic moments to bring them up, like when we’re already twenty minutes into our lunch.
“He left before I got up, so either he was the most bright-eyed and bushy-tailed of the bunch, or he felt the overwhelming urge to crawl off somewhere isolated to die alone.”
She nods but doesn’t reply, so I decide to wait a little longer before I push her to tell me what’s going on there. We kill time talking about work while we polish off the rest of our meals, and then decide that the hangover gods require an additional sacrifice, so we order a plate of fries to split, and I switch to her side of the booth so we can slump pathetically on each other while we demolish it. After a long pause, Cora leans her head on my shoulder and I lean my head onto hers.
“Lucy?” she says quietly, twirling a fry in the ketchup.
“Mmph?” I respond around an undignified mouthful of fries.
“Have you ever… liked someone you’re not supposed to like?”
Fighting the urge to gasp, because I know that if I do I’ll only choke, I swallow my food and ask her in my calmest, most innocent voice, “who do you like that you’re not supposed to like?”
“I don’t know,” she sighs, “it’s just a hypothetical.”
“Cora?”
“Can you just answer first?”
“Okay… well, I think first of all, it depends on what you mean by ‘like.’”
“Don’t be a 6th grader about this, Lucy, you know what I mean. Like-like.”
Like-like? And I’m the 6th grader?? I’m thankful she’s still resting her head on my shoulder and can’t see the incredulous look I’m struggling to wipe off my face.
“Okay. Then I think it also depends on what you mean when you say you’re not supposed to like them.”
“Someone… off limits.”
“Not the person you’re with,” I elaborate very carefully.
“Exactly. And it’s not just hormones, either,” she continues, “I mean… really connecting with someone. Someone else.”
“So, there’s this person --”
“-- hypothetically speaking --” she cuts me off.
“Fine, there’s this hypothetical person you like. Are they a good person?”
“Really good.”
“Makes you laugh, listens to you, cares about your feelings, always calls you back, all that good stuff?”
“All of it.”
“And you’re attracted to them?”
“Hypothetically… yes. Very.”
“Think they’re attracted to you?”
“Pretty sure.”
“Okay, I see. That sounds pretty great. And what about the person you’re with, hypothetically? Do they make you feel the same way?”
After a long pause, all she has to say, in a frighteningly small voice, is “no.” I’m done playing games now.
“Cora?”
She sits up and regards me with a completely miserable expression but doesn’t respond, so I brush her hair out of her eyes and say simply, “just tell me what’s going on.”
“Okay okay I don’t know how the hell any of this happened but I think I’m falling for Stone,” she says in one giant breath before biting her lips back in, as if she regrets letting the words past them.
“I think maybe you already fell.”
“It’s an ongoing process,” she mutters, flushing.
“I know what you mean.” Wow, she’s got it bad. “Well, if it’s any consolation, I’m pretty sure Stone took the same fall you did.”
“You knew, didn’t you?” she huffs.
“Oh, sweetie… yeah, it’s been obvious for a while.”
“Sounds like it was obvious to everyone but me,” she grumbles.
“Have you guys talked it through yet?”
“No… I think he wanted to talk about it last night, but I just couldn’t do it. I wish I’d told him, though, there’s just… it’s complicated, but I know we need to air it out. I get that.”
My heart swells with gratitude for Jeff for doing his part. Now it’s time for me to do mine.
“You guys really clicked, didn’t you?”
“It’s insane, Lucy. I’ve never felt this way about someone before.”
“Yeah, but you and Alex fell in love pretty quickly, didn’t you?”
“That was totally different,” she shakes her head. “Alex and me, we kinda just… happened. Like, I met him, we hooked up that same night, we just sort of stuck together after that, and I was so excited to have a boyfriend that I don’t think I really thought about it all that much. I don’t know what to call that, looking back, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t love. Not right away.”
I take a deep breath and ask her the most obvious yet most painful question of all. “And do you love Alex now?”
She slumps in the booth, leaning her head back with a thud. “I don’t think what we have now is love either. It used to be, but… I don’t know, not anymore.”
“For how long?”
“How am I supposed to know? I just know he’s been checked out for a long time now, and I’m starting to realize that I have been, too. Like, what are we even doing? We hardly spend any time together, he hates all my friends… except you,” she adds quickly, “and he hasn’t even called me once since he’s been on this trip, not even to return a call.”
“Really?” I have to fight not to shake my head in disgust. That’s shitty, even for Alex. What’s so goddamn important about a conference that you can’t find time to call your girlfriend? Not once, the entire week? My urge to beat him bloody with my shoe returns with a vengeance.
“Really. I’ve called him every day, and I get nothing back. At first I was kinda worried, but like… this is just what he does. I don’t think he even cares. I left him a message the other night to see if he wanted a ride home from the airport, but it’s just radio silence.”
“You don’t deserve that,” I affirm. “Whatever else is going on, that’s just cruel. He should care enough to call you back, at the very least.”
Her face contorts. “Yeah, but I’m not much better… my boyfriend goes away for a week and I fall head over heels for that idiot??”
“That idiot has a name, and you’re obviously pretty important to him. That’s not some new development in the last week.”
“Still, Luce, I just feel like such an asshole. How did I let this get so out of hand?”
“Sometimes this stuff happens, Cora. Sometimes a relationship runs its course, and you don’t always get closure wrapped up in a pretty little bow before somebody’s ready to move on. I just think you’ve got to talk to Alex.”
“Yeah. I know. I know I do.” Her eyes are starting to look a little red as she leans her head back on my shoulder. “It’s over, it’s been over for a while, I just… I can’t be the one to…”
I only speak up when I’m sure she can’t finish her own thought. “You feel like you can’t be the one to leave.”
“Right.”
I wrap an arm around her and pull her into a hug. We don’t talk about her dad a lot, but I know that’s where this bullshit about not leaving people comes from. From the inner eight year old who was left behind once and can’t stand to leave anyone else the same way.
“Cora, it’s not the same. People grow apart. You’re not married to Alex, you don’t have kids, we’re young… you don’t have to do this to yourself forever if you’re not happy with him. Are you happy?”
She sniffs and shakes her head.
“You deserve someone who makes you happy.”
“I’ve got to talk to Alex.”
“Yeah. You do. He gets home tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow night.”
“You can do this, Cor. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
I give her shoulder another big squeeze, and we finish our fries in silence.
***
After my afternoon classes are done, I drop my books by the front door of the apartment and notice that the answering machine has something to tell me. When I press play, the unexpected sound of Alex’s voice makes me jump.
“Hey babe, I got your message last night,” oh, and what about the ones I left every other day? my brain asks him bitterly, “don’t worry, I don’t need a ride from the airport, you’re the only one who cares about that shit, haha. No but seriously, I can get myself home. Anyway, yeah, I’ll seeya when I seeya, hope you had a good week, bye for now.”
I sink down onto the couch, wincing at the dismissiveness of the message. After a week of not hearing your voice, this is all I get? I’ll seeya when I seeya? What am I, your drinking buddy? Some random acquaintance? I used to think I was going to spend my life with you, you asshole, and even if we’re drifting apart, even if we’re breaking up, don’t we deserve a better ending than this? Lucy’s right, this can’t wait any longer, I’ve got to talk to him as soon as he gets home…
You’re the only one who cares about that shit… his laughter keeps ringing in my ears. Laughter. After what happened a few weeks ago? When I asked you to pick me up at the airport, hoping you’d at least pretend that you gave a damn, and you fucking forgot? Really, that’s a joke to you now? It’s not a joke! It’s not a joke to me! God, how can it be a joke to you?
And you know who actually picked me up? You know who was there when I needed him? Stone. A shard of guilt pierces my chest when I think about Stone trying to have a sincere talk with me last night. Yeah, okay, he had terrible timing, it wasn’t something we needed to discuss while drunk. But he tried to tell me and I brushed it off. That wasn’t a joke either. Suddenly all I can think about is how much I need to tell him, and it can’t wait. I dial so quickly that I’m almost confident I hit a wrong number, but the voice on the other end of the line is exactly the one I wanted to hear. I don’t waste any time.
“Hey... can I come over?”

What Is CBD Isolate Powder 13956-29-1?
Tumblr media
CBD isolate is a crystalline solid or powder that contains 99% pure CBD. It is Cannabidiol in its purest state currently available on the market today. CBD Isolate is 99% pure, white crystalline that is ground up into powdered form. Therefore, it is 100% THC free and free of other plant compounds including terpenes and other cannabinoids. It contains no psychoactive components.CBD Isolate powder may influence several bodily functions, including:
appetite
memory
mood
pain perception
inflammation levels
How Does CBD Isolate Powder Work/The Mechanism Of CBD Isolate Powder?
CBD Isolate have good effects on body is because CBD works by acting on the cannabinoid receptors in the human body. These receptors exist because the human body produces its own cannabinoids.
Researchers believe that CBD does not attach directly to these receptors, but that it influences them in some way. As a result of this receptor activation, CBD exerts its effects on the human body.
CBD Isolate Powder History
Efforts to isolate the active ingredients in cannabis were made in the 19th century. Cannabidiol was studied in 1940 from Minnesota wild hemp and Egyptian Cannabis indica resin. The chemical formula of CBD was proposed from a method for isolating it from wild hemp. Its structure and stereochemistry were determined in 1963.
Why Buy CBD Isolate Powder/What Are The Benefits Of CBD Isolate Powder?
1. Anxiety, Depression, and Stress
Several studies indicate that CBD Isolate powder has anti-anxiety effects. It likely works by changing the way the brain responds to the chemical serotonin. One 2011 study looked into CBD’s effects on people with SAD (seasonal affective disorder) . SAD is a type of depression that sufferers experience through the winter months when it’s cold, wet, and dark.Another 2019 study suggests that CBD significantly decreased anxiety in teenagers with social anxiety.
2. Pain Relief
People often use CBD Isolate powder to treat a variety of inflammatory conditions and types of pain, including:
arthritis pain
cancer pain
chronic back pain
fibromyalgia
neuropathic pain
While CBD isolate may provide pain relief, research indicates that a full-spectrum CBD product may be even more effective because cannabidiol acts synergistically with THC to boost its analgesic effects.
3. Inflammation Relief
Studies show that CBD Isolate powder has anti-inflammatory properties.
Research has discovered that CBD can relieve inflammation and pain in people with inflammatory conditions when used in topical and ingested forms.
With the potential to relieve arthritis, psoriasis, dermatitis, acne, and much more, the anti-inflammatory benefits of CBD are valuable to a wide group of people.
4. Alleviate Nausea
There’s limited scientific evidence that proves CBD Isolate powder is an effective anti-nausea drug. However, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest it’s effective.
Some cancer patients use CBD to reduce nausea and other side effects of cancer treatments and therapies with excellent results.
One study from 2011 suggests CBD can help with nausea due to its interaction with serotonin receptors . The study involved animal testing and found that their nausea response was greatly reduced when CBD was administered to rats.
5. Cancer Treatment
Research into the effects of CBD on cancer growth is also in the early stages. However, some animal studies do indicate that it might prevent the growth of cancer cells.
The National Cancer InstituteTrusted Source indicates that CBD may alleviate some cancer symptoms and side effects of cancer treatment (including nausea and vomiting).
However, the Institute does not endorse any form of cannabis as a treatment due to insufficient research.
The benefits of CBD Isolate powder goes on….
6. THC Free
Pure CBD is 100 percent THC-free for those who must or prefer to not have any trace amounts of THC in their system. so there’s no need to worry about THC possibly entering your system and showing up on a potential drug test. Although it’s highly unlikely, trace amounts of THC found in hemp-derived CBD oil can theoretically cause a positive drug screening result.
7. Easy Usage
Isolate is relatively taste-free, so it’s a great way to add CBD to your own custom formulation. How to use CBD Powder? CBD Powder can be consumed in a variety of ways: CBD powder is most popularly used by mixing it into edibles and CBD oils or CBD capsules. CBD can be smoked or vaporized. CBD powder is often used as a substitute to CBD oils, giving the user the ability to control their dosage.
8. Easy Dosage
CBD powder is easily measurable as there’s nothing else to account for aside from the pure CBD. With other CBD-based products, such as broad-spectrum and full-spectrum CBD oil, the cannabinoid is mixed with other cannabinoids, making it more difficult at times to quantify the exact amount of CBD that is being consumed.
9. Other Benefits Of CBD Isolate Powder
-boosting the immune system (immune-modulating)
-counteracting the formation of tumors (anti-tumorigenic)
-fighting inflammation (anti-inflammatory)
-preventing vomiting (antiemetic)
-recovery or regeneration of the nervous system (neuroprotective)
-reducing or preventing anxiety (anti-anxiety)
-reducing or preventing seizures (anticonvulsant)
-relieving pain (analgesic)
10. Effects on THC
CBD is thought to have an attenuating effect on THC, so it can also be used to decrease or balance out THC effects.
How To Make CBD Isolate Powder?
CBD works by binding with the endocannabinoid receptors in the body’s nervous system optimizes functions regulated by the endocannabinoid system. For this reason, CBD possesses multiple uses for overall wellness. The exact reason why CBD isolates and other CBD products are so helpful is still being studied by researchers and scientists.
Those that need to refrain from consuming THC because of their age, the legality in their state, or because of employer drug testing, CBD isolate is a practical alternative to full spectrum oils, which contain trace amounts of THC.
CBD powder has so many good benefits, how to make CBD Isolate powder?
There are various processes used to produce CBD isolate from industrial hemp extracts, such as supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2) or ethanol-based extractions. The same extraction methods can also be used as a starting point for the production of THC isolate as well, but typically with marijuana plants instead of industrial hemp. To create an isolate, a number of components are removed from the plant, including other cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids, as well as fats, lipids, and other compounds. After that, the CBD compound is separated from the rest of the extraction through a series of chemical washing and separation processes.
Once all of the impurities and solvents are stripped away, you’re left with 99% pure CBD crystalline.
How To Use CBD Isolate Powder?
1. Sublingual
To take CBD isolate powder sublingually is one of the most effective ways to consume CBD.
By this method, CBD is absorbed by the mucous membranes and delivered directly to the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system and liver to provide more immediate and effective relief. The powder is odorless and has a mild, cannabis flavor.
2. Apply to skin
Mix the CBD isolate with moisturizing oils or lotions and apply it to the area of your skin you’d like to treat.
Applying CBD isolate to your skin allows you to use your preferred topical product while enjoying an extra kick of the isolate and maintaining full control over the CBD dosage. It’s also fun to experiment and make your own DIY topical, whether lotion, salve, or cream.
3. Oral-put into capsule or your foods
Measure out the CBD isolate powder at the dosage you prefer and put into capsules. You can also mix CBD isolate with a variety of ingredients to create CBD-infused food and drinks. What’s more, buying CBD isolate powder in bulk can make this method one of the most economical. However, because CBD is not absorbed very well by the gastrointestinal tract, it has a low oral bioavailability. In order to increase bioavailability, CBD isolate can be added to carrier oils, such as MCT oil, to increase its chances of permeating the gastrointestinal system and reaching the bloodstream
4. Vape or dab it.
Vaping CBD isolate won’t get you high, but it will enable you to enjoy the effects of CBD quickly. CBD isolate can be mixed with terpenes to create homemade CBD concentrates, or it can be dabbed using a concentrate vaporizer or dry herb vaporizer.
What Are The Side Effects Of CBD Isolate Powder?
CBD isolate is generally a low-risk substance, especially as it does not contain THC. However, in some people, it may cause adverse reactions that include:
an increase or decrease in appetite
diarrhea
fatigue
weight loss or weight gain
insomnia
irritability
CBD can also interact with some prescription or over-the-counter medications, so always talk to a doctor before using CBD or other cannabis products.
One study in mice indicated that CBD might also increase the risk of liver toxicity if taken in significant quantities. Anyone considering using CBD should talk to their doctor or one who specializes in CBD to evaluate their risk.
CBD Isolate Vs Full and Broad Spectrum CBD, Which One Is Beeter?
Research suggests that full- and broad spectrum CBD is a more valuable treatment for a wider range of health conditions.
It’s believed that CBD is more effective when consumed alongside other cannabinoids. A full cannabinoid profile is more efficient than singular cannabinoid extractions. This phenomenon is known as the entourage effect.
That being said, CBD isolates still have excellent potential in the health space.
Many studies have been done on pure CBD isolates, and although the conclusion that full-spectrum oils are better, isolates are still effective in treating some conditions.
You may prefer to use a CBD isolate because you want to avoid THC and other cannabinoids entirely. Perhaps you react badly to some other cannabinoids or would prefer to steer clear of full-spectrum products for other reasons.
There are pros and cons to using CBD isolates, just as there are for full- and broad spectrum products.
CBD Isolate: Pros & Cons
Pros:
Contains only CBD
Plenty of product variety
No risk of showing up on a drug test
Suitable for people with adverse reactions to other cannabinoids

Raw oil has a taste that’s unappealing to some
Broad Spectrum CBD: Pros & Cons
Pros:
Has the entourage effect to some extent (minus the THC)
Wide product variety
Effective for multiple health issues
Doesn’t show up on drug tests
Cons:
Doesn’t have the full entourage effect
Raw oil has an unappealing taste to some
How Much CBD Isolate Dosage Should I Take?
How much CBD isolate dosage you should take is depends, it is different for everybody. The dose of CBD isolate can change depends on many factors include:
– individual metabolism,
-the strength of the CBD products you are using
-your body size and weight
-your sensitivity and tolerance to CBD

Exactly What Oleoylethanolamine Is Useful To Get?
Tumblr media
What's Oleoylethanolamine (OEA)?
Well, Oleoylethanolamine is something fresh into the market that is supplements as a health supplement ingredient employed in fat reduction formulations. Bodybuilding fans are currently discussing Oleoylethanolamine on reddit as well as also other media platforms. Going here: https://www.cofttek.com/product/111-58-0/ for more information.
Like a producer of Oleoylethanolamine powder, Cima Science has got the responsibility.
Oleoylethanolamine (OEA) is a term that is long , the way to pronounce it?
Oleoylethanolamine contains 3 words: oleoyl ethanol amide (which means that you can declare and memorize it more easily). Oleoylethanolamine continues to be overly long for users to memorize this, and experts use OEA to refer it. (The first letter of the three Phrases )
Oleoylethanolamine can be a organic metabolite of lactic acid produced in the small intestine within the body. It is naturally-occuring, and also experts call it"endogenous".
OEA is a rule of cholesterol, weight and appetite. It is a natural metabolite which is created in small amounts in your small intestine. OEA aids modulate hunger, weight, body fat and cholesterol from binding to a receptor called PPAR-Alpha (Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha). In-Essence, the metabolism of your body fat escalates and tells the brain that you are full and it's really time for you to quit consuming. OEA is known to increase non-exercise calorie expenditure that was related.
Oleylethanolamide Heritage
The biological acts of oleoylethanolamine were detected since 50 years back. Just before 2001, there wasn't a lot research about OEA. Yet, that calendar year, the lipid resigned and examined the way that it has created, and at which it really is applied and exactly what it's does. They confirmed which OEA will not act in mental performance also identified no influence on eating, but alternatively , a separate signal that affects hunger and eating behaviour is triggered by it.
Oleylethanolamide VS cannabinoid anandamide
OEA's effects were studied because it shares similarities with still yet another chemical, a cannabinoid called anandamide. Cannabinoids are about the plant Cannabis, also anandamides contained in the plant (and bud ) can improve a person's desire to bite by activating a feeding reaction. In accordance with Wikipedia, Oleoylethanolamine could be your monounsaturated analogue of the endocannabinoid anandamide. Its impacts on weight and eating control are different Even though OEA has a chemical composition that's similar to anandamide. Contrary to anandamide, OEA acts independently of this cannabinoid pathway, regulating PPAR-a action to arouse lipolysis.
(Cima Science Co., Ltd is the sole manufacturer of majority raw substances of OEA, PEA and AEA in China, if you require sample and price quotation, make sure you drop us a contact from the contact us page.)
OEA contrasts with higher affinity to the peroxisome-proliferator-activated receptor-a (PPAR-a), a chemical compound that regulates several facets of lipid metabolic rate.
Oleoylethanolamine Rewards
Oleoylethanolamine (OEA) is fantastic to shed weight reduction as appetite boosters and encourages healthy cholesterol levels in adults.
OEA as appetite suppressant
Appetite reduction is a key controlling position for electricity (food) intake, handling hunger is essential in managing body weight. Does OEA control your desire? You will check the mechanics of activities under.
OEA and cholesterol
Jojoba oil can be actually a nutritional superstar, and helps lower"bad" LDL cholesterol and raise"good" HDL. Why? In accordance with 85 percent of coconut oil is oleic acid, and also the major wholesome metabolite of oleic acid is OEA (Oleoylethanolamine may be your complete name). There is no doubt that cholesterol that is healty is helped by OEA.
Some rereearch indicates that Oleoylethanolamine has favorable results on stress, and also proof and paths are necessary to encourage.

Cannabis Varieties: An Intro To Hemp And How It Differs From Marijuana
The Cannabis sativa plant has so many varieties, all of which contain varying amounts of cannabidiol (or CBD, the non-psychoactive compound), Tetrahydrocannabinol (or THC, the psychoactive component) and other cannabinoids.
The varieties of cannabis with over 0.3% THC are more commonly known as Marijuana. Meanwhile, hemp is a variety of Cannabis that contains less than 0.3% THC. Thus, ensuring that you won’t get high and have an episode of extreme euphoria.
For so many years, scientists were only concerned with studying the psychoactive component THC concentrated on marijuana. In the past decades, however, they have become interested in the therapeutic benefits of the other major compound in both varieties, CBD.
Take note, however, that although CBD and THC are the most study-focused components of the cannabis plant, there are other chemical compounds found within the plant including CBC (cannabichromene), CBG (cannabigerol), THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin), cannabinol (CBN) as well as flavonoids and terpenes.
And while past studies claimed that using CBD alone offer greater benefits, recent studies discovered that a whole-plant hemp extract with all other compounds is much more beneficial due to the phenomenon known as the Entourage Effect. In this process, all other compounds of the extract support and amplify the healing attributes of one another, for faster and more effective results.

Hemp Oil and Its Types
With the popularity of the hemp plant, you will it in various types and names which can be quite confusing for the first-timers. We’ll clear this one, too!
Tumblr media
1) Hemp Oil Extract
Hemp oils are extracted from the seed and/or stalk of the hemp plant, mainly for its beneficial compounds. Unlike CBD isolates, hemp oil extract is a whole-plant extract. Thus, it contains a blend of various phytocannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes, all of which working together to impart the entourage effect.
2) Hemp Seed Oil
As its name implies, this type of oil has been extracted only from the seed of the hemp plant. Unlike a full-plant hemp oil extract, hemp seed oil has little to no CBD and is instead extracted for the healthy fatty acid profile.
This is generally used for culinary purposes as well as promoting healthy nails, skin, and hair.
3) CBD Oil
This is an isolated extraction of the phytocannabinoid called cannabidiol. This means that it contains potent CBD and will not provide an entourage effect. In states where cannabis is legal, the CBD oil can be made from hemp or marijuana. However, in some states where cannabis is illegal, CBD oil should be extracted from the hemp plant.
4) Extraction Methods
The extraction process involves using a solvent to extract the oil from the hemp plant. There are various solvents used, all of which have their own pros and cons.
CO2 Extraction
In this method, the hemp is subjected to low-temperature and high-pressure CO2 gas. This helps in isolating and preserving the cannabinoids in the oil. The only disadvantage of this extraction is the slow process and high production cost. Thus, you can expect that these products have a higher price tag.
Olive Oil Extraction
Olive oil, on its own, is cost-effective, safe, and even comes with its very own health benefits—from enhancing immunity to supporting inflammatory pathways. In this extraction process, the hemp plant is heated with olive oil in order to extract the cannabinoids.
Ethanol Extraction
Ethanol is non-toxic and safe in small amounts. The only problem is that ethanol can destroy the plant waxes, which may have added health benefits.
Hexane or Butane Extraction
These solvents are great at extracting cannabinoids from the hemp plant, however, some residues may remain after the process which can cause potential harm to your lungs.
7 Hemp Oil Extract Benefits and Uses
Hemp and CBD oil extracts are gaining momentum in the wellness and health world, with several scientific studies and current research confirming its varying health benefits.
Here are 7 hemp oil extract benefits that are backed by scientific research and evidence.
Tumblr media
1) Pain Relief
As far as 2,900 BC, cannabis has been used to treating pain. In recent years, researchers found out that certain components of the cannabis plant, mainly CBD, are responsible for its pain-relieving attributes.
How?
The human body has a specialized system known as the ECS, short for endocannabinoid system. This system is responsible for the regulation of a variety of functions including appetite, functioning of the immune system, sleep, and pain response.
The body naturally produces endocannabinoids— neurotransmitters binding to cannabinoid receptors in the nervous system. Research has shown that CBD in hemp oil can help in the reduction of chronic pain by impacting this endocannabinoid receptor activity, interacting with the neurotransmitters, and easing inflammation.
In one rat study, CBD injections reduced pain response to surgical incision. Another rat study showed that oral CBD can significantly reduce sciatic nerve inflammation and pain.
Meanwhile, several human studies of hemp extract benefits found that a combination of THC and CBD is effective in treating the pain associated with arthritis and multiple sclerosis.
As a matter of fact, an oral spray named Sativex containing both CBD and THC is already approved in several countries to treat pain associated with multiple sclerosis. A study of 47 individuals suffering from multiple sclerosis examined the effects of taking the said drug for a month. The participants experienced improvements in pain, muscle spasms, and walking. Read Here: CBD Cream for Pain – Everything You Wanted to Know About & Where to Buy It.
Another study found that the same drug has significantly improved pain at rest, during movement and sleep quality in 58 individuals with rheumatoid arthritis.
2) Neuroprotective Properties
Scientists believe that the CBD in hemp oil can act on the ECS and other brain signaling systems to provide benefits for those with neurological disorders.
As a matter of fact, one of the most studied applications of CBD is in treating neurological disorders such as epilepsy. Through research in this area is still new, several studies have already shown promising results.
A study subjected 214 individuals suffering from severe epilepsy with 0.9g – 2.3g of CBD oil per pound of body weight  (2 – 5 g/kg). Their seizures were reduced by a 36.5% median.
Another study revealed that CBD in hemp oil can significantly reduce seizure activity in children suffering from Dravet syndrome, a complex childhood epilepsy disorder.
Another studied hemp extract benefit is its potential effectiveness in treating other neurological diseases. For instance, a few studies have shown that CBD treatment improved sleep quality and quality of life for people suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
In addition, test-tube and animal studies have shown that CBD can decrease inflammation and aid in the prevention of neurodegeneration connected with Alzheimer’s disease.
In fact, in one long-term study, scientists gave CBD to mice that are genetically predisposed to Alzheimer’s disease. The study found out that CBD helped in preventing cognitive decline.
3) Depression and Anxiety Relief
Depression and anxiety are common mental health disorder which can have devastating impacts on your well-being and health. According to WHO, depression is the single largest contributor to disability in worldwide with anxiety ranking 6th. Read Here: Healthy Benefits Of CBD Oil
Depression and anxiety are typically treated with pharmaceutical medicines, which can cause various effects including agitation, drowsiness, sexual dysfunction, insomnia, and headache. What’s more, medications such as benzodiazepines can be addictive and result in substance abuse.
Hemp oils, on the other hand, has shown promise as a treatment for both anxiety and depression. In a Brazilian study, 57 men were given either a placebo or oral CBD 90 minutes before they were subjected to a simulated public speaking test. Scientists found that a 300mg dose of hemp oil was the most effective at reducing anxiety during the test.
Meanwhile, the placebo group, the 150mg dose of CBD group, and the 600mg dose of CBD group have little to no effect on anxiety. In addition, another study has shown that hemp extract benefits children suffering from PTSD, treating their anxiety and insomnia.
In several animal studies, CBD has also shown anti-depressant-like effects. These qualities are connected to the CBD’s ability to stimulate the brain’s receptors for serotonin, the neurotransmitter regulating social behavior and mood.

4) Alleviate Cancer-Related Symptoms
CBD can help in the easing symptoms associated with cancers as well as the side effects associated with cancer treatments like pain, vomiting, and nausea.
A research studies the effects of THC and CBD components of hemp oil in 177 individuals suffering from cancer-associated pain, who didn’t experience relief from prescribed pain medications.
Those treated with the hemp extract containing both compounds experienced a dramatic reduction in pain, compared to those who only received the THC extract. CBD can also help in easing chemotherapy-induced vomiting and nausea.
A study of 16 individuals undergoing chemotherapy found that a one-to-one combination of THC and CBD administered through a mouth spray has helped reduced chemotherapy-associated vomiting and nausea better than the standard treatment alone.
Some animal and test-tube studies have even revealed that CBD may have anti-cancer properties. For instance, a test-tube study revealed that concentrated CBD helped induced cell death in human breast cancer cells.
Another study has found that CBD also inhibited the spread of aggressive breast cancer cells in mice. Take note, however, that more studies in humans are required before a final conclusion can be made.

5) Heart Health
Recent studies have linked hemp extract and CBD with several benefits for the circulatory system and heart, including the ability to lower your high blood pressure.
High blood pressure is connected to higher risks of a number of health conditions such as heart attack, stroke, and metabolic syndrome. Research shows that CBD and hemp extracts benefit people with high blood pressure.
A study treated 9 healthy men with a single dose of 600mg of CBD oil, which resulted in the reduction of resting blood pressure, compared to the placebo. That same study also subjected the men to stress tests which increase blood pressure. The single dose of CBD caused the men to experience a smaller increase in blood pressure than normal in response to such tests. Read Here: CBD And Blood Pressure: How CBD Can Lower Your Blood Pressure Levels
Scientists think that the anxiety- and stress-reducing properties of CBD helped in the lowering of blood pressure. In addition, some animal studies have demonstrated that hemp extracts can reduce cell death and inflammation related to heart disease, thanks to its powerful stress-reducing and antioxidant properties.
For instance, a study revealed that CBD treatment prevented heart damage and reduced the oxidative stress in diabetic mice suffering from heart disease.
6) Acne Reduction
Acne is one of the most common skin conditions, affecting over 9% of the world’s population. This skin condition is caused by several factors including bacteria, genetics, and underlying inflammation and overproduction of sebum. Based on new scientific research, hemp extract benefits those suffering from acne, thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties and the capability to reduce the production of sebum. Read Here: Could Hemp Oil for Acne Be the Secret to Clear Skin?
A test-tube study revealed that hemp extract stopped the sebaceous gland cells from over secreting sebum, provided anti-inflammatory actions, and stopped the activation of pro-acne agents such as the inflammatory cytokines. Another research had similar results, concluding that CBD can be a safe and efficient way to treat acne, mainly because of its anti-inflammatory effects.
7) Other Potential Benefits
Tumblr media
Hemp extracts have been studied for their role in treating a number of health issues other than the ones mentioned above. Although more studies are needed, CBD oil is thought to offer the following benefits:
SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT
Hemp-derived CBD has been shown to change the circuits in the brain associated with drug addiction. In a rat study, CBD has been shown to ease morphine dependence and heroin-seeking behavior.
ANTI-PSYCHOTIC EFFECTS
Research shows that CBD can help people with schizophrenia and several mental disorders by easing psychotic symptoms.
DIABETES PREVENTION
Treatment with CBD in diabetic mice reduces the incidence of diabetes by up to 56% and reducing inflammation.
ANTI-TUMOR EFFECTS
In animal and test-tube studies, CBD oil has shown anti-tumor effects. In animals, it prevented the spread of prostate, breast, lung, colon, and brain cancer.
Hemp Extract Side Effects
Although there are various hemp extract benefits and CBD is generally considered safe and well-tolerated, it can still cause an adverse reaction in some individuals.
Side effects noted in the studies include:
Fatigue
Changes in weight and appetite
Diarrhea
Dry mouth
Dizziness
Low blood pressure
Hallucinations
Withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia and irritability
In addition, CBD is also known to interact with various medications. So, before you even start using CBD oil, make sure to discuss it with your doctor to guarantee safety and preventing harmful interactions.
This is particularly important if you are taking supplements or medications that come with the “grapefruit warning”. Both CBD and grapefruit interfered with the cytochromes P450, an enzyme group that regulates drug metabolism.
Furthermore, a mice study showed that CBD-rich hemp extract can cause liver toxicity. Take note, however, that some mice in the said study were force-fed with extremely large doses of the hemp extract.
How To Take Hemp Extracts?
Hemp extracts may come as powder or oil. These are then mixed into gels, creams and other topicals to be administered directly on the skin. They can also be put into capsules and orally taken or even rubbed on the skin.
Some hemp extracts come in sprays that are sprayed as a liquid into the mouth. Others come as tinctures which you need to drop under your tongue. You can even find hemp edibles such as gummies, cookies, and biscuits that contain hemp extracts.
How hemp extracts should be used depends largely on what it is being used for. Consider talking to your doctor before using hemp extracts since most hemp products are not approved by the FDA for any medical uses and may cause side effects.
Finding The Right Dosage
Once you get your hands on quality hemp extracts, the next thing you need to think of is the right dosage. You can ask your doctor for the ideal dosage, however, since CBD is still not recommended for medicinal use, finding the right dosage can be tricky. Regardless, here is a guideline to finding the ideal dosing:

Ideal Dosage According To Studies
Since FDA has only approved CBD for treating specific forms of epilepsy, doctors and medical practitioners know little about the right dosage. However, in clinical studies, scientists used various oral CBD dosages ranging from 100 – 800mg daily.
There are some studies that used higher dosages. In a review, a person reported improvement in psychosis after taking a 1,200mg of CBD oil daily for a few weeks. Another study in people suffering from schizophrenia reported positive benefits after taking an increased dosage of 40 – 1,280mg of CBD daily for 4 weeks.
Meanwhile, a study in individuals suffering from Parkinson’s disease and psychosis, the 6 participants showed dramatic improvements in symptoms with a 150mg CBD daily.
Here is a simplified list of the ideal dosage and administration of CBD that researchers used to study its therapeutic effects on various medical conditions.
Medical ConditionFormCBD DosageAnxietyOral300mg – 600mgType 2 DiabetesOral100mg 2x dailyBowel DiseaseSublingual5mg 2x dailyParkinson’s diseaseOral75mg – 300mg dailyPain due to cancerOral50mg – 600mg dailyHuntington’s diseaseNasal sprayUp to 12 sprays daily
Factors Influencing Dosage
Several factors can influence the ideal CBD dosage. Depending on the condition you are trying to treat, they will need varying dosages. Some individuals will need smaller dosages for anxiety while some require high dosages to control epileptic seizures.
Weight is another factor that you should consider. In most clinical trials, doctors calculated a dose per kilo of body weight. Thus, people weighing less can take lower dosages than people weighing more.
Alcohol and other CNS depressants can increase the sedation effects of CBD. Thus, people using other medications that cause drowsiness should lower CBD dosage or avoiding it altogether. You also need to consider the dosage in each hemp extract form. A capsule of hemp extracts has a particular dosage, however, the dosage from oral solutions depends on the volume.
The Safe Dosage
Although research in human and CBD remain limited, research suggests that CBD has low toxicity. In a monkey study, CBD has no bodily function or behavioral effect unless the animals are subjected to dosages higher than the 150mg/kg intravenously or 30mg/kg orally daily for 90 days.
Meanwhile, in a human physical dependence study, scientists gave individuals 1,500mg of CBD daily for 4 weeks. The participants didn’t go through withdrawal after the 28-day trial. In another study, doses up to 1,500mg of CBDdaily were well-tolerated.

Final Thoughts
In spite of safety concerns and lack of enough data, it is undeniable how a lot of people are choosing CBD and hemp extract products over the pharmaceutically-approved ones for the treatment of various diseases— both mental and physical.
This is mainly because of the fewer side effects experienced and the next to no chance of overdosing. Plus, the promising results of various studies of CBD treatment and applications already made CBD and hemp oil quite famous and even dubbed as the “miracle medicine”.
Research on the potential hemp extract benefits on health and overall well-being is still ongoing, so new therapeutic uses for this natural compound are sure to be discovered, ultimately saving humankind against numerous chronic diseases and health issues.

COULD A BREATHALYZER DETECT COVID-19?
Scientists at Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, are working on a device that might revolutionize the way we diagnose patients for the radical corona virus. They say that this new technique should vastly speed up the trying out manner and could update the less-than-powerful current method of trying out with an infrared thermometer.  Brands like BACtrack, AlcoHAWK, AlcoMate and Oasser are already making breathalyzers.  If successful, the tool ought to find significant utility in airports, GP surgeries, pharmacies, and ambulances, permitting medical personnel to quick and efficiently take a look at capability instances of the virus in a remember of minutes.
Tumblr media
Led by using Northumbria University companion professor Dr. Sterghios Moschos, the check device collects breath samples to stumble on the virus, and is less vulnerable to contamination and false-negative results. The way the device works is somewhat just like how a breathalyzer detects alcohol in exhaled air. Instead of scanning the air for ethanol, the tool works by means of choosing up biological records from the breath sample, referred to as biomarkers. If it detects biomarkers along with DNA, RNA, proteins, or lipids, it indicates that the lung may probably be infected with a disease. The World Health Organization is presently recommending testing sufferers the use of nasal swabs, oral swabs, and lung swabs (amassed when a affected person coughs up mucus). Dr. Moschos and his team accept as true with the ‘virus-detecting breathalyzer’ would, surely put, work higher at amassing swab samples because all exhaled breath is circulated thru the lungs. Experts even say the new technology, if perfected, should have a huge impact on healthcare globally no longer just via allowing humans to come across viral ailments faster, however additionally as a way to diagnose other respiratory ailments, along with lung disease, liver issues, diabetes, cancers, brain, and growing older diseases. Life Insurance Blood Tests
Tumblr media
Researching how to get life insurance with blood tests in underwriting? In this guide, we'll go over what you need to know to get coverage then work with you directly to shop life insurance quotes and get you insured at the lowest cost possible.
Blood Tests
Blood tests are done as part of the risk assessment for life insurance coverage. They screen for “silent” disorders that are not causing symptoms but may cause increased mortality risks, such as kidney or liver disorders. They also assess current status in those with a known medical condition, such as diabetes. Listed below are the basic screens that are done on blood testing. Normal ranges vary slightly depending on the laboratory doing the test and the gender and age of the patient. Diabetes Blood Tests Glucose is the main source of energy for living organisms. The major cause of elevated glucose is diabetes mellitus. Hemoglobin tests are used to confirm elevated glucose (blood sugar) and fructosamine readings. When an individual’s HbA1c is abnormally high, his or her blood sugar had been high in the past 1 to 2 months. Kidney Blood Tests Blood Urea Nitrogen is an end-product of protein metabolism and is elevated in kidney disease or dehydration. Creatinine is a waste product released from the muscle tissue and is extracted from the kidneys. Creatinine is elevated in kidney disorders or dehydration. Normal range depends on age, gender, and build. Liver Blood Tests Alkaline Phosphate is an enzyme found primarily in the liver and bones. Elevated levels may indicate the presence of bone disorders or liver and bile duct disease. Total Bilirubin levels that are abnormally high occur in individuals with liver and gallbladder disease. Bilirubin is mildly elevated in Gilbert’s syndrome while other liver tests are not elevated by the syndrome. Aspartate Aminotransferase is an enzyme found in the liver and in cardiac and skeletal muscle. Elevated levels can indicate liver and muscle disorders. Alanine Aminotransferase is an enzyme found in muscle, cardiac and liver cells. Elevated levels commonly occur with liver disease and can be proportional to the degree of disease. Gamma Glutamyl Transpeptidase is a liver enzyme. It is released as a result of damaged cell walls in people with various liver diseases. It is also sensitive to drugs and medications, e.g., Dilantin and alcohol. Total Protein in serum includes two major components: albumin and globulin. Its measurement assesses the body’s ability to maintain its chemical balance. Albumin is the largest portion of total serum protein. Decreased serum albumin can indicate many disorders, including advanced liver disease and malnutrition. Globulin is a major component of serum proteins. It has many functions, including maintenance of the immune system. Abnormal globulin levels, both elevated and decreased, may indicate infections, allergic reactions, immune disorders, and other diseases. Lipid Blood Tests Total Cholesterol is a risk factor for coronary artery disease. High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL), if high, is associated with protection against coronary artery disease. The quantity of HDL, as well as the ratio of HDL to total cholesterol, is important in determining one’s risk of coronary artery disease. Markedly elevated HDL may indicate heavy alcohol intake. Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL), if high, is associated with an increased risk of coronary artery disease. Total Cholesterol/HDL Ratio is a predictor of coronary artery disease. A ratio of 4.5 or less is associated with a lower risk of heart disease. Triglycerides are fats that provide a major reserve of energy for the body. Increases in triglycerides and other fats (lipids) can increase the risk of coronary artery disease. Ideally, triglycerides should be measured after an overnight fast. LDL/HDL Ratio is calculated using total cholesterol, HDL and triglycerides measurements. The lower the LDL/HDL ratio the less risk of coronary problems. Other Blood Tests for Life Insurance HIV Test reports whether a person is positive or negative for antibodies to the human immunodeficiency virus. Blood Alcohol Test measures the amount of alcohol (ethanol) in the body at a given time. NT - proBNP brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a cardiac hormone. Elevations of the hormone, and in some cases, low levels, have prognostic value for cardiovascular events. Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) is a glycoprotein found in tissues of the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, lung, kidney, bladder, prostate, breast, ovary and thyroid. Elevations may be suggestive of cancer, smoking, inflammation, or benign tumors.

The Keeper of the Grove (Part 47)
A small army of workers and pack-animals trooped in to Keeper's Hollow the morning after they pawned Eluna, coming in through a mix of the Tubes and making their way through the water on boats powered by motors, with giant turtles hauling in materials and equipment.
It was fascinating watching them work, in-between Weiss tending to her new crops of sugar beets and wheat, and her budding cacao tree orchard.
The new sprinkler system was like the Tubes, a system of vines grown in deliberate paths and connected by wood and stone anchors,  and the larger equipment like the mill used live trees for foundation, the rest of them made with the raw materials Weiss had been stockpiling from the overgrowth, or gathered from the remaining wilderness.
They didn't tear down the mossy and partially rotten walls of the old barn, but instead had the weavers place their hands on them, pulsing magic into the wood and reversing the aging process right before Weiss' eyes. They even adapted most of the plant-life growing in and around it as decoration; part of the piping for indoor plumbing, power, and natural gas; or a potential source of food or other amenities for the animals they were planning to house in there, once they found tenders willing to take most of their wages in food and lodging.
Even the tree growing through the roof wasn't cut down; they just patched up the breach to keep the elements out, hacked off some of the unrulier branches, and rebuilt the interior of the barn around it.
<Foundation for house,> the foreman had explained to her, after she gave them water and some snacks for their break.
The final touch was restoring the old transport system between the barn and the house, another boat suspended in the air, at where the water level could reach during the Flood. After a couple of safety tests to ensure that the makers had completely repaired or replaced the hinges that had broken off some years back, Ruby and Weiss took the maiden voyage.
They sat on opposite ends, listening to the cranking of the motors as it pulled them across, peering over the edge and waving at the cheering construction crew, looking at the fast-disappearing overgrowth and the small but thriving farm that had gone on to replace it.
Weiss sighed happily as she turned back to Ruby. “We've come a long way from those sweet potatoes, haven't we?”
“Yep!” Ruby chirped. She playfully pointed her horns at Weiss. “And it's all thanks to you!”
Weiss blushed. “Oh please, we both know I wouldn't have even thought of gardening if it wasn't for you...”
<Just kiss her already!> one of the makers yelled, before the rest joined them, howling, cheering, and making playful gestures.
Weiss glared at them, before she quickly sunk below the level of the boat's sides.
Ruby leaned out. <WE'RE NOT--> she made a very loud sexy animal noise <--YOU GUYS!>
There was laughter, confusion, and some sighs of disappointment as Shinies changed hands.
The boat stopped at a deck on the barn's second floor. Ruby stepped out first, grabbed Weiss hand and helped her out. The boat shook a little, leading Weiss to step farther than she intended and end up MUCH closer to Ruby, just one or two inches of distance between them.
They stared at each other, cheeks taking on a light dusting of pink.
“… I… better get started on making Qrow's booze!” Weiss said quickly.
“And I better get ready for the hunts again!” Ruby said as she jumped off the platform, landing softly on the grass below. “See you later, Weiss!” she called out as she ran back to the house.
“See you later, Ruby!” Weiss replied, before she hurried headed inside, and to her new laboratory/kitchen.
With instructions from the Codex and Penny on-hand for documentation and in case something went horribly wrong, Weiss had her first batches of sore-stiff ointment, moonshine, and cheese on the burners, bacteria cultures hyper-accelerating the process to give her what usually took months in the span of a few days.
She hung up her apron with pride, washing her hands, and heading off for a much deserved snack break before it was back to practicing her Actaeon and learning more about Fae society—fittingly, the day's lesson were about Talos, the progenitor for the Order of the Makers, and one of the most prolific engineers, scientists, artisans, and many more professions of the “Ekindling Era” beside.
“Where have I heard that name before?” Weiss asked as they walked back to the house.
“Probably from one of the more popular Fae epithets,” Penny explained. “'Talos Stinky Beard' is the one of the top ten.”
“Why his 'stinky beard' of all things?”
“Talos was a goat Fae, and extremely proud of his beard which he liked to grow long and wear in braids, and meticulously groomed every morning and night. Whenever an experiment or an endeavour went horribly wrong, or in an entirely unexpected and oftentimes unpleasant direction, for some bizarre reason, his beard would always be stained or marred in some way, the most frequent being afflicted with a difficult to remove smell.
“On a related note, he has another popular epithet frequently used as part of prayers to him: 'Talos Help Us All.' This one was because Talos was also oftentimes called in to assist or reverse the damage done by other Makers less skilled than he, also victims of unexpected outcomes, or both.”
“Well 'Talos Help Us All,' then,” Weiss said.
Penny frowned.
Weiss stopped. “… What?”
“I forgot to mention!: that particular epithet and its related prayers are only ever used AFTER something has gone wrong. In Fae superstition, saying it BEFORE anything unfortunate has happened will allegedly cause something to go wrong, as Talos was also well-known for his short temper and dislike of others calling for him, largely because it entailed him having to fix yet another disaster or mitigate unforeseen consequences.”
Weiss frowned. “… How bad are we talking about, exactly?” she asked.
Penny smiled. “Just repeat after me: 'Gabija Have Mercy On Us All,'”
“Gabija Have Mercy On Us All,” Weiss said.
As Penny climbed up to get the elevator, Weiss made a note to herself to not call upon any more divine powers until she knew everything there was about them.
It started with her moonshine.
Though for full flavour and maximum potency, it needed to ferment for a week or more, ethanol was already present within the first 24 hours, and since that was all Qrow really needed, he, Weiss, and Penny were at the laboratory doing the first taste test.
All of them cringed as Weiss poured some into a shot glass, as the moonshine had developed an incredibly powerful, acrid aroma. “Man, they weren't kidding when they said this brewer's bacteria was powerful stuff,” she said as she pinched her nostrils then handed it over to Penny for scanning.
“We Fae have neo-steel guts compared to you humans,” Qrow explained. “It takes a LOT more to get us fucked up.”
Penny made a beeping noise. “Analysis complete! Qrow, I would HIGHLY suggest that you don't drink this, I've detected worryingly high levels of ethanol...”
“It's moonshine, Penny,” Qrow said as he plucked the shot glass out of her hand. “It's meant to be that way.” He raised it in the air. “Bottom's up!” he said, before he knocked it back in one gulp.
“Well?” Weiss asked.
Qrow came to in a hospital bed.
<UNCLE QROW!> Ruby cried, jumping on his bed, and nearly smashing her horns into his head as she hugged him. <I'M SO GLAD YOU'RE NOT DEAD!>
<Fuck me! What happened?!> he asked.
Ruby pulled away. <You mean you don't remember?>
<Last thing I'm getting from my chronicle is me drinking some of Weiss' moonshine, thinking 'Huh, not bad, kinda sweet, but I could see myself drinking this soon as it's got some time to age,' and then POW! Nothing!
<Did the makers launch another rocket, and it happened to punch through the roof and land on me?>
<Actually, you died of alcohol poisoning,> Penny said as she came over. <Fortunately, my mender protocols include detoxification and revival of patients, so long as brain activity had only recently ceased.>
Qrow's eyes widened. <Holy fucking shit… Weiss' booze was that strong...?>
Penny nodded. <The makers currently have it in secure storage, until they find someone brave-stupid enough to want to do serious study of it.>
Qrow laid back on his bed. <How long was I out?>
<6 hours and 37 minutes, including the five minutes that you were brain-dead,> Penny replied.
Qrow closed his eyes. <Someone fill me in on what the hell happened in the meanwhile, before the Council gives me crap about it...>
Penny put her hand to the chronicle-governor on the back of Qrow's neck, and did.
The footage was from Penny's optic sensors, with an overlay of her many scanners' readouts, a scrolling ticker of her inner thoughts, and her “To Do” list in the upper right corner. The latest item was <Keep Qrow from Dying.>
“Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit…!” Weiss whispered over and over again as she stood over her and Qrow. “Is he dead?! Did I kill him?!”
“No,” Penny replied as she held her glowing hands over Qrow's unconscious body, “he's just suffering from severe alcohol poisoning, he's not yet--”
Qrow's vitals readings flat-lined.
“--And now he's dead.”
Weiss wailed in despair. “Ruby's going to kill me!”
“Initiating revival protocols!” Penny said as her hands began to glow with immense power. “And Ruby won't take violent retribution on you, knowing this was an accident; however, she will definitely be permanently traumatized, and also likely fall into a serious depression.”
“THAT'S EVEN WORSE!”
Qrow fast-forwarded the footage. Penny revived him, stabilized him, and proceeded to siphon all the alcohol from his system. Unfortunately, there was no closing his eyes for the inevitably messy aftermath of that last part.
The emergency menders were called in, and Qrow was hauled off to the hospital for recovery. Penny spent a good while consoling a distraught Weiss, and he put it back to normal speed as after she recovered and they were back in front of the still, looking at it like it had grown fangs and legs.
“Is Fae alcohol always this powerful...?” Weiss asked.
“No, which is what worries me,” Penny replied. “There's no reason for any of the ingredients or the processes used to end with a product this potent, especially this early in the fermentation stage. The only way they could achieve this is with a catalyst.”
“Like what?”
Penny shrugged. “I don't know. I suggest we call the Maker's Forge—they're going to want to study this. And more importantly, we might need someone with the skill and equipment to safely dispose of it...”
Weiss warily looked at the other two containers of fermenting products.
“Don't worry!” Penny said. “Sore-stiff ointment and white cheese are not nearly as volatile as moonshine is!”
Qrow fast-forwarded again through their attempting to recreate the wort they had used for the moonshine, until Ren and Nora arrived at Keeper's Hollow.
“You two work as safety inspectors, too?” Weiss asked as she met them at the doors of the barn.
“Yes,” Ren replied. “It's cheaper and easier, considering we're already combat-trained watchers.”
“You need combat-training for this job?” Weiss replied.
“Yep!” Nora replied as she walked in, her hammer over her shoulder. “Never know WHAT might come out of a flunky science experiment, here in the Valley.”
Weiss was silent as the two went up and began to test her moonshine.
The results were not encouraging, with the alcohol levels still strangely, dangerously high, and requiring extreme dilution in water until it was reasonably safe to drink.
“There's only one more test to see if we're going to need to bar you from making more until you get a license,” Ren said.
“What's that?” Weiss asked.
“The Fury Potato Test!” Nora cried, pulling out a canister from her back-pocket.
“It's when we see if your alcohol could potentially be used as an explosive,” Ren explained.
Qrow fast-forwarded over the preparations, and resumed when they were standing at a remote, uninhabited corner of Keeper's Hollow, on a bank facing out to the water.
Nora loaded the canister full of moonshine into her hammer. “FURY POTATO!” she cried as she swung.
Thoom.
They all watched it sail off into the distance, and into the water.
Plop.
They waited a few seconds.
Nothing.
“Welp, that answers that!” Nora said, putting her hammer down and leaning on it.
BOOM.
Quite a lot of clouds of debris, exploded plant matter, and dead fish and frogs began to float up to the surface.
“… Nope, spoke too soon!” she said.
“Yeah...” Ren muttered, “we're going to have to confiscate all your moonshine and your still, until we're certain you won't accidentally blow Keeper's Hollow sky high.”
“What exactly did you do to make it, anyway?” Nora said.
Weiss walked them through the process, and at the end, added, “I also kind of said 'Talos Help Us All' just after I put them away for aging...”
Nora and Ren's eyes widened.
“… I didn't know you weren't supposed to say it then.”
“What's inside the other containers, and when are they going to be done fermenting?” Ren asked.
“Sore-stiff ointment and white cheese, and a little before two tomorrow afternoon.”
“Call us when you open them,” Ren said as he made a note of it in his tablet. “Ideally, when Ruby and Blake are with us.”
“Tell them to come armed!” Nora added.
“Is invoking Talos when you shouldn't really that bad?” Weiss asked.
Ren put his hand on her shoulder. “Let's just put it this way: pray to whatever other deities you believe in, except for him.”
