Part 7: Birthdays and… Balloons?
Part 6: As Does the Sun Shine
Tumblr media
pairing: Officer!Leon Kennedy x Coroner’s Assistant!Reader
warnings: mention of female and male anatomy, dark thoughts, again this is a slow burn book so Leon won’t be dark this early on and the smuttier parts will be more later on as their relationship starts to become more, i really want this to be played out as a book rather than just a few parts <3
Tumblr media
Coffee, now cold, sitting in the plastic cup on Leon's desk. He'd forced down about one third of it, before he couldn't withstand the bitterness. His eyes closed tight as he took his last sip, forcing the black coffee down his throat with a repressed gag. Was the illusion of fitting in really worth the vile taste that bit at his taste buds? His fingers placed the cup back down, a soft thud coming from the wooden desk as the paper cup met its surface. How did anyone drink this? His nose scrunched at the memory of the earthy flavor. A steamed bean that tasted as a strong as it smelt, nauseating. His eyes moved from his cubicle, looking to the other officers. Some were kicked back, black boots atop their desk as their arms folded behind their heads, chatting mindlessly about whatever thought slid across their mind. Leon hadn't truly gotten too close to most of his colleagues, yet. He did, however, like Lieutenant Branagh. The man was always so stern, but Leon found a way into his more kind moments. Weaseled his way into the Lieutenant's close circle of officers.
His eyelids drooped, falling back to the pile of papers before him, feeling the overbearing weight of the files before him. He couldn't focus, his mind was already wavering from one thing to another and soon all the inked words looked like blurs. His fingers dug into his eyes, wiping away the imaginary film that blocked his pupils from distinguishing letter from letter. He pressed his lips together, his body ached for something, he wasn't sure what it wanted but he couldn't just sit here anymore. Standing up, his hand brushing down the blue material of his uniform shirt, straightening out the still, slightly, stiff fabric. He hadn't worn this one in as much as he had the others, it was still crisp. It was even a bit itchy as Leon bit back a groan.
A mere stroll, he was simply trying to stretch his legs. The dull ache in his legs needed to be coaxed out as he passed by the same dark oak door. His eyes on the plaque that hung, face level, in front of him. 'Coroner's Office'. He'd been growing familiar with the office, the cold feeling it gave off as he heard shuffling on the other side of the door. He didn't want to seem clingy, despite his already near adhesive behavior towards her. He was like a piece of gum that didn't want to be scraped from her shoe. He clung to any piece of her his sticky mind could reach, be it a look here or there, an offer to take her to work or pick her up coffee, an uninvited trip to her apartment and a soft touch after his hand slammed a mug into the back of her head.
He wondered if she remembered, did she know he was there and she was just too nervous to say anything? Surly not, he wondered if, without his direction, she already assumed it was a dream. If not, he'd slide in her comfort show, one that showed home invasions often, he had sat down to watch a few episodes after their talk that night, her little ramble about how she always came home on weekends and binged the seasons she'd seen already, far too many times. He liked to watch her ramble, going on about a detective who was brainy and wise, how much she thought the character was similar to him and then to if he ever wanted to go higher into the criminal justice system. He could listen to her prattle for ages and never become tired of hearing her voice. He was an addict for her, Leon never thought himself the kind to be over come by an addiction. He didn't smoke cigarettes and maybe sometimes he over indulged into the bottle on occasion, but to say he was addicted, that would mean he needed a substance. His substance was her.
"You gonna day dream all day, Kennedy?", he heard a mellow voice from behind him, breaking his thoughts away from the girl just on the other side of the door. "You know, you still have reports to turn in.", Lieutenant Marvin Branagh, the African American man stood behind him as Leon tilted his head to look behind him. "Yes, Lieutenant. I was just stretching my legs before i finished them up, sir.", always the good boy, always the yes man. Leon made sure he gave respect where it was due and Branagh deserved respect for how well he treated the officers in RPD. "I'm just pulling your leg, you've got plenty of time.", the man laughed, placing his hand on his khaki clad hip. "I was looking for you. I wanted to invite you to my little girl's birthday. She's turning 5, I'm inviting the whole precinct.", Leon could see how much Marvin was excited for this birthday party. "The sun's shining for once and i think my little girl wants to have a pool party. Bring yourself and a plus one...", Branagh's eyes narrowed, a knowing smirk crossing his lips. "Maybe that little assistant girl?", Leon's cheeks lit up as his lips turned down. "Why would you assume-", he started to raise his hand to wave off what the Lieutenant suggested. "Don't act like you haven't brought her to work and taken her home the past two days. I know what you're doing, I was young once.", Marvin knew Leon was trying to charm the girl. "Bring her, it's tomorrow at 3pm. Bring a swimsuit and an appetite. My wife makes the best potato salad and i'm going to throw some meat onto the grill.", with that and another knowing look, Marvin walked away from the younger officer. "I better see her there.", he called over his shoulder, voice bounding off the walls and echoing. Leon winced, silently praying she hadn't heard the Lieutenant through the door.

"A birthday party, for Lieutenant Branagh's daughter?", she looked up at Leon, tapping a file onto her desk, her other hand holding a paper clip ready to slide it onto the papers once they fell into place. "I'd love to go with you.", her eyes crinkled as the corner of her mouth quirked up. A shocked breath fell from Leon's lips, it's not like he truly expected a no, but she hadn't been too familiar with the other officers. He knew she was shy and even a little anxious, she didn't even order for herself at the coffee place this morning. Leon noticed she was fidgeting and seemed a little more nervous than in the car and opted to order for her.
"Maybe we can stop by and pick her up a gift and some balloons. I know i loved balloons when i was a kid.", she slid her chair back, placing the file into an open file cabinet, before pushing it closed and twisting the key to lock it back. Upon hearing his silence, she turned to look over her shoulder, "So, that's a no to balloons?", she asked, wondering if his lack of answer was due to the floating, helium filled rubber. "We'll definitely get balloons, so long as i don't have to fill them up.", his head was slightly tilted, giving him an extra air of innocence. "Ballons it is then.", she chuckled, looking at his slightly obvious stare. "You gonna blink any time soon?", she was bold, for once. Leaning onto her elbow as she slid her chair back to its respective spot.

He didn't want to blink, not for a second as he watched her slide, the slight bump over the rolling mat that was placed under her desk made her breasts bounce slightly, causing his eyes to divert to the movement. Her breasts looked so soft, the shirt cut off the rest of his view. Her valley between her mounds tempted him to bury his head between them, pressing kisses to the flesh. Yeah... sorry-", he shook his head, eyes flickering up to the window, golden rays of sunshine bounced into the room. "It looks like a pretty day today, I hope it stays that way for tomorrow.", he cleared his throat, hand pulling at the collar of his shirt. "I'm sure it will.", she glanced over to where he was looking, small particles of dust flew through the rays of sunshine, causing a peaceful look to takeover the usually dark office.
"It's a pool party, did i mention that?", his voice broke the calm silence. Her eyes snapping up to him, her hands reaching for the next file. "No, but that sounds great.", great to her, he got to see her in a bathing suit and his dick nearly twitched to life at the thought. He got to see her in a, hopefully, sexy, yet modest bathing suit. Although, so did all the other officers who'd be there. That thought, in and of itself, made him sick. Who were they to look at what was his? He liked that she stayed away in the office, away from his coworkers, but what when other officers realized just how sweet and naive- pretty, she was? Would she like all that attention on her very womanly figure or would she be shy and try to cover herself up? "Yeah, sounds great to me too.", he hummed, his lips pushed together as he gazed back at the window.
"I can pick you up for the party?", a few moments later, it seemed he was always the one to break the silence, but he had to hear her more. "Are you sure, Leon?", she squinted her eyes, he was always picking her up, it felt like she didn't even need a car anymore. "I'm sure, i've been to the Lieutenant's home before, i know the way and it saves you the chance of getting lost on the way. It's on the outskirts of Raccoon.", he moved back over, stepping to the side and sitting in the chair his butt has become so close with. The red upholstery welcomed his back like an old friend. "Only if you're sure.", she gave him a look of uncertainty; she felt bad he was always going out of his way to do things for her or come see her. "I can give you some gas money.", she had a soft twinkle in her eyes when she looked back up at him. His hand waved her off, dismissively, before she even finished the word 'gas'. "No, i'm offering to take you.", he really put some effort behind saying 'offering', "if you really want to pay me back for taking you... let me come by your place again. I really enjoyed our little tea party.", a smirk pulled at his lips, slightly teasing her about their first night together- their only night together that she was aware of.
"How about-", she leaned over the desk; his eyes getting a clear shot down her shirt before he looked back up at those doe eyes of hers. "after that party, you and i go back to mine and we can have a movie night? We can order pizza in and maybe even get a few beers- if you drink that is.", she offered, leaning back in her chair as it squeaked with her weight. Leon's finger pressed to his clef chin, eyes dancing as he hummed. "Let me see...", he looked down at his watch, which had nothing to do with anything. "i've got a pretty busy schedule...", his tone was playful but muted. She couldn't help but laugh, even if she got turned down, his overtly dramatic show was just too cute. "but-", he lifted his finger, then pointed it at her. "I think I can make some time to spend with a pretty girl like you.", it was his turn to be bold. Her cheeks nearly felt like he'd struck a match near them, her eyes as wide as saucers as she stared at him. He called her a pretty girl, she thought he'd said it before it this time. With his very obvious flirting, it made her feel warm and tingly. "Well... I think we have a movie date-", the word date slipped her lips before she even registered the underlying intention to the word. Mentally, he was kicking his feet in joy, screaming that she was finally his, well... as much of his as a first date goes. He wanted to do it better, some place fancy and escort her to a nice restaurant, maybe take her to the botanical gardens but this would do. They'd have plenty of time for those nicer dates later. He'd be in her home once more, this time in a welcomed way.

"Oh, Leon.",  she spoke up softly. "I had this really weird dream.", she shuffled, her hands going under her butt to keep her skirt down as she adjusted herself in the office chair. He could sense she was nervous to talk about this 'dream.' he had a feeling he knew what was coming next and he could feel his pulse start to quicken. "Oh, really? Do you want to tell me about it?", he leaned into her, his head now passing the edge of her desk. "Unless, of course, you're not comfortable. I just-", he was going to tell her that it's okay- "No, it was about you.", maybe, her inviting him to come back over had subconsciously struck a nerve in her. "You were in my kitchen and-", she bit back her next words, her lip pulled between her teeth. "It's so silly, i don't even know why i'm telling you.", she felt ashamed to have dreamt something like this and to tell him at that. She felt foolish. "It's okay.", his voice was calm, feigning ignorance as he knew what she was about to say and he could see the guilt she felt from thinking it was him, to which it was, but she didn't need to know that. Her hands played with her skirt seam as she looked up at him. "You were just there and i came home to you in my kitchen. You... grabbed me and it scared me, really bad.", she couldn't even look at him, her eyes zeroed in on a pencil holder.
"I'd never hurt you, bunny.", there's that nickname, that nickname made from her naive, idiotic nature. To her it sounded so reassuring and kind, understanding even. To anyone who knew the boiling thoughts that rose to his mind at any slight moment, it sounded like a lie, a manipulation used to bring her comfort in a trying time that he, himself, had caused her. "I'd never, ever, hurt you, bunny.", his head tilted, almost like he was hurt that she would think such thing.
Maybe, just maybe, he was too good at this. That pretty, sweet boy was a wolf in sheep clothing, comforting his prey. "I know.", she let out a sigh mixed with a scoff, "maybe i need to lay off that stupid crime show.", she let out a airy laugh, her eyes finally meeting his. "I trust you, Leon.", oh, what a mistake she had made, those words nearly knocked Leon into an orgasmic state of mind. She trusted him. How, she would come to regret that decision. Her trust lay in the open palm of a man who was slowly changing, his frontal lobe near a rework. He'd never been this way before, but his body was slowly cresting that thin line between love and obsession, that clarity and delusion.
"You won't regret it, my sweet little bunny."

New Story
El Mayarah (M)
Summary: After waking from a recurring dream, Kara tells Lena the truth about her identity and how she feels. Nothing goes as the Kryptonian hopes. After being attacked by The Children of Liberty, the only way to save Lena’s life is to take her to Argo City. What happens there will change everything.
Chapter One
Kara’s POV
Ever since Reign was defeated and The Children of Liberty gained power in the media, I've had nightmares. Some were about fighting The World Killers, losing, and them killing everyone I cared for or The Children of Liberty killing all aliens and everyone who helped aliens. Either way, everybody I loved or cared about ended up dying and there was nothing I could do to stop it.
The only way I could go back to sleep was making a cup of tea and wrapping myself in the blanket Lena had left after a movie night. Sipping the warm liquid, I thought about the last few months. Things are so messed up. Lena and Supergirl are at odds because of kryptonite and she doesn't know the truth. It's been too long. It won't end well when I tell Lena who Kara Danvers really is.
Flipping through Netflix, I put on a comfort show and let it play in the background. Lena still made me the kryptonite armor even after our fight. And she gave Mom the recipe to make more Harun-El. I'm so confused.
Desperately needing sleep, I rinsed my mug and went back to bed. Since the blanket still smelled like Lena's apartment, I brought it to bed with me. Nuzzling my face into it, I inhaled the calming scent.
Waking in my bed, I heard a knock on my door. Rushing to answer it, Brainy stood before me. "Brainy? What are you doing here?"
"You're talking to me. And you know who I am." His brow creased. "Supergirl is-,"
"You can't say that! " Pulling him inside, I closed the door quickly. "It's dangerous to walk around without your image inducer turned on."
"Do we know each other? I am Brainiac 5. A 12th level intellect. The Legionnaires call me Brainy." He walked around my apartment aimlessly looking around.
"Yes, we know each other. Mon-El sent you." Why does this feel so familiar?
"Yes. To make sure your neuro pathways are intact." Brainy picked up a plant and examined it. "Your brain is in remarkable health for someone languishing in a coma."
Oh, Rao. "The coma dream palace thing I was in," I sighed. Not this dream again. "Yes, you think I'm in a coma. I was, but I'm not anymore."
"Did I bury the lead?" His head tilted. "You've been in a coma for two days."
"I know. My subconscious feels most at ease here and so on."
"Yes, you've been in a coma."
No matter what I say, it's still going to play out. Rubbing my face, I went along with it. "I'm in my loft."
"Oh! This is just where your subconscious feels most comfortable. We're not really in your loft."
This can't be happening. "If I'm in a coma, how are you here?" I watched as the man continued to walk around my apartment.
"Mon-El woke me from hyper sleep to communicate with you on behalf of him and your D.E.O. patriates. 31st century technology. It's also what's keeping you alive."
"Alive?"
"Reign defeated you," he spoke curiously. "Don't you remember?"
Flashes of the fight and Alex finding me in the rubble flashed through my mind. Dread filled me. "No. This…Reign is still out there. People are dying. I need to wake up." Rushing to my door, I tried to open it to no avail.
"I don't think you're listening to me." I tried pulling harder but the door wouldn't give. "Could we maybe try relaxing for a bit?"
After finally giving up on the door, I paced the loft. "This is torture," I huffed. Sitting on the couch, I watched as Brainy inspected my kitchen. "What are you looking for?"
"Any sign of decay or damage. In a simulation like this, it can show up in any type of fashion. I want to make sure there's nothing that will harm your reality reentry."
"Reality reentry?" I held a pillow to my chest.
"If you're not properly prepared, you could go into shock. Some people die instantly."
"Wait, does that mean I'm ready to wake up?" Getting to my feet, I tossed the pillow. "Is there anything I need to do?" I made my way towards the door again.
"This is the manifest of your subconscious and that's the only way in or out. Logic says you need to walk through it."
Trying the door again, it wouldn't budge. "It's not opening." I continued to pull. "Why isn't it opening?"
"We drained the tank and you've suffered no ill effects of hibernation." Boiling water, Brainy sipped a cup of tea. I bit my lip realizing he used some of Lena's favorite tea. "Everything is physically fine. There must be a different reason your mind is keeping you here."
"You're saying I'm keeping myself here?" I scoffed. "That doesn't make any sense. I'm the one who wants out of here." I tried punching through the door but was only knocked back.
"Is there a reason your subconscious wants you to stay here? Self preservation perhaps? You were badly beaten." He sipped more tea as he sat on the couch. "Fear can be powerful."
"I am not afraid." I tried using my heat vision until everything around us was destroyed. Frustrated, I started to clean.
"Is there something different about this version of your loft? Something that stands out."
Placing some items on my coffee table, I looked around. My stomach dropped seeing coats, shoes, and other little things that weren't mine. A lot of Lena's things are here. Things that aren't actually in my loft. This is new. The dream has never taken this path before. Turning my gaze to the picture in hand, it was one I took of us. We were cheek to cheek and smiling.
"You've noticed something," Brainy's voice trailed. "Who is this brunette woman?" He picked up a nearby picture I kept on the side table. "Your mate? Mon-El said you were single."
"No. She's…just a friend." My stomach fell. I don't want her to be just a friend.
The man studied me. "You want her to be your mate." His head tilted. "You could be stuck because you're scared."
"I've not told her that I'm Supergirl. She'll hate me." I swallowed hard seeing the brunette in question appear sitting in my armchair. Walking towards her, I wrapped Lena in my arms. "I miss you."
"I'm right here, Kara," Lena nuzzled her face in my neck, holding me tightly.
"She appeared to you for a reason," he coaxed. "What is it?"
Releasing the shorter woman, I turned towards Brainy. "Possibly because I have to face the fact that I've had feelings for her?"
His brow creased. "But you love Mon-El."
"You can love more than one person at a time, I think." I took the safer option, falling for Mon-El. Loving him was easier than loving Lena. He was a certain thing. She's not.
"And now?" Brainy's attention shifted.
Turning back to dream Lena, I cupped her face. The action caused a warm smile to appear. "To get out of here I have to admit to myself that I love her…." That thought terrifies me.
My alarm woke me from my Lena, Brainy, coma dream. Staring at the ceiling, I thought about Lena and my feelings for her. I am so screwed. I need to bite the figurative bullet and tell her. I'd rather bite a real one.

Could you write something about what happened in the aftermath of the Flash episode? Like the team coming back and hearing about what happened, and maybe Nia talking to the first Dreamer. Thank you!
Okay so this is more just Nia telling Brainy, but I hope you enjoy. 😉
After a quick pit-stop at Central City’s Jitters – as recommended by one Iris West-Allen - the journey home passed Nia in nothing more than a caffeine-induced blur.
She hadn’t exactly planned on indulging in quite as much coffee to start with, but what she’d seen of Iris’s dream had piqued her curiosity. She could say one thing for certain: things ran far smoother in the real world’s Jitters, one where Barry Allen was safe and sound behind a hero’s mask and not a barista counter.
Nia wasn’t sure what time she got back to the apartment that night, but that wasn’t important to her. Besides, sleep was definitely not an option right now. She’d been practically buzzing since her last espresso shot and, while the come down would not be pretty, it was more than worth it to be awake for when Brainy got home.
The second she heard the tell-tale click in the lock, she was already on her feet and had Brainy pulled into a hug long before he could get a step through the front door. She melted into the crook of his throat the moment she was in his arms, breathing him in. He still smelled like the nano fibres that made up his super suit, which probably meant he’d disengaged it just seconds before touching down. They must have only arrived back on Earth in the last hour.
Brainy’s hands were quick to wind around Nia’s back, linking together at the base of her spine. She grinned into his shoulder before tipping her chin up to greet him. “Hey.”
“Nia.” Brainy spoke her name in one long exhale, the warmth of his breath prickling pleasantly across her cheek. Through it, she could hear that mark of relief that always accompanied her name whenever they’d been apart for too long, a habit neither one of them had been willing to break ever since Brainy’s recall to the future.
There was something different in his tone this time, though, something extra. A shift of unease that could only really mean one thing.
Crap. He knew.
Nia pulled away from him enough to see her boyfriend’s expression in full, which only confirmed her fears. Her face fell immediately. “Who told you?”
Brainy’s dark eyes held her firmly. “No one had to tell us anything. The Tower received twelve identical distress calls from Team Flash in the span of two hours.”
Nia groaned. “I had a feeling you were gonna say that.” Before Brainy could respond, she turned away from him, padding over to the kitchen. “You know what I think? Barry jumps the gun to panic way too quickly.” She plucked Brainy’s favourite mug from the drying rack, forcing a laugh over her shoulder. “Speedsters, am I right?”
Brainy didn’t say anything. In fact, he kept silent even while Nia poured him a share from the still warm coffee pot on the counter. The longer the silence remained unbroken, the more certain she became that they were going to need something a whole lot stronger to get through this conversation.
Finally, Brainy shifted in the doorway. She listened to his hesitant footfalls as he walked without urgency to the other side of the breakfast bar. She sighed, tapping the edge of his mug idly before pushing it out towards him.
“Nia,” Brainy said again, making no move to take it. There wasn’t any real anger in his voice, only a wary concern bred from everything she’d yet to tell him. He didn’t need to say anything else; she could read between the lines.
“I’m fine, Brainy,” she insisted. “I swear, okay? Actually, I’m a lot better than fine.” She smiled up at him then, unable to hide her own excitement. “I have so much I want to tell you.”
Brainy’s eyes flickered restlessly across her face, a look she recognised all too well. She’d definitely caught herself doing it to Brainy on more than one occasion. It was that final once over you gave your partner after a fight or on patrol, the one to make sure there were no cuts or bruises, no cleverly disguised signs of injury.
Her smile softened when Brainy finally relaxed. His hand grazed over hers as he took the mug from the counter. Nodding reservedly, he gestured towards the sofa. “Then, by all means.”
For the next hour, all Nia did was talk. She tried to stick to a somewhat chronological account of events, even if that was a little hard considering half of them had happened in the dream realm. Brainy sat silently at her side, drinking in every word with expect focus. He didn’t interject once throughout the story, although she did catch him twisting his ring particularly hard whenever she mentioned the parts about her nightmare vision, or at least what she’d thought had been a nightmare at the time.
After she’d finished, she realised that the wariness in Brainy’s demeanour had been replaced with total fascination. His eyes practically glittered with it. He’d stuck strictly to his side of the sofa for most of the story, but as she’d neared the end, he’d shuffled in closer, enough that their shoulders were nearly touching.
A breath caught in Nia’s throat as Brainy reached out, his fingers tracing a delicate pathway along the lines of her jaw and cheekbone where the Naltorian symbols had glowed the most prominently. She was sure there were no signs of them now she was back in the waking world, and yet Brainy touched upon their exact placement without any foreknowledge to guide him.
“Extraordinary,” he murmured, his voice soft with awe. “And you can see this… ancient Naltorian? Right now?” He straightened suddenly, eyes darting vigilantly about the room.
Nia snorted, covering her mouth. God, she’d missed him. “She isn’t always here,” she admitted. “But, uh, for the record…” She nodded over to the bedroom door where the first Dreamer had been stood watching over them for some time. She, too, had shown a great reverence in Nia’s recounting of events, smiling openly throughout as though to encourage her.
Brainy pointed bluntly in the direction Nia had referenced. “There?”
Nia bit her lip, taking Brainy’s arm and gently guiding it until his hand had crossed over the first Dreamer’s exact location. “There,” she said.
Brainy’s eyes lit up. He turned his full attention to that spot, bowing his head in a way that was equal parts respectful and adorkable.
The first Dreamer also looked amused.
Nia smiled. “I think she likes you.”
Brainy lifted his head. “She does?”
“Definitely. Maybe we can arrange a proper meet sometime in the dream realm.”
“I would be honoured,” Brainy said earnestly. He turned back to her, eyes wide. “This step you have taken in your pursuit to unlock the fullest extent of your abilities, it is astounding, Nia, truly. I am so glad you have finally been able to achieve it.”
“Yeah,” Nia said, rolling her eyes. “And all I had to do was stop trying to control everything.”
“You would be surprised how rarely a person is able to relinquish such control.” Brainy’s lips twitched fondly. “It is a particularly stubborn state of mind that extends to most intelligent lifeforms.”
“Even the most intelligent?” Nia teased.
“Especially the most intelligent,” Brainy returned gravely. He placed his hand across her knee, leaning in close. “How do you feel?”
Nia’s breath sharpened at the question. It was kind of silly, but up until then, she hadn’t really stopped to think about it. She closed her eyes, letting the rest of her breath ease slowly through her teeth as she considered her answer. “Like… my blood’s fizzing, but in a good way.” She chuckled lightly, flexing her hands out in front of her. “For that short time I couldn’t access my powers, I felt so strange, like the easiest thing in the world had suddenly become so hard. And… when they came back, it didn’t exactly feel as easy as it had before.” She frowned, opening her eyes. “Does that make sense?”
Brainy smiled knowingly. “As I understand it, that suggests your Naltorian ancestor has much she wishes to teach you.”
“And I intend to learn, believe me,” Nia said, feeling the first Dreamer’s watchful eyes on her, the calm fondness that seemed to radiate from that corner of the room. “But it does feel good, Brainy. I feel more powerful than ever.” Nia glanced down at her hands, willing a burst of dream energy through her bracelets. They lit up her fingers with such vibrancy, webbing between them like buzzing blue veins. “I thought I had a pretty good handle on turning this stuff into just about anything.” She clenched her hands together again, letting the energy disperse as quickly as it had appeared. She grinned. “Now I know that, before, I was barely scraping the surface of what these powers can do. I can’t wait to try them out.” Before she could say any more, a yawn claimed her and Nia reached for her mouth with a grimace. “Ugh, but that can wait ‘til tomorrow. Despite the whole being in a coma for most of the day thing, I’m exhausted.”
“Then rest,” Brainy said, kissing her cheek. He brushed his nose against hers before pulling away, squeezing her knee tight. “You have more than earned it.”
Nia sighed – that was certainly true. As she stood to stretch, she could feel a little of that buzz from the coffee swarm in the back of her head, although it could have just as easily been a trill from her newly developed powers. Her Naltorian metabolism would have the caffeine out of her system in no time, but the rest? She supposed she’d just have to get used to it.
As she headed to the bedroom alongside Brainy, she found herself passing by the first Dreamer once again. A tingle ran down her spine at such close proximity to the entity, but it wasn’t unpleasant.
When Nia was sure Brainy was out of earshot, she turned to the first Dreamer in earnest, clasping her hands in front of her. “Thank you,” she whispered. “For everything you’ve shown me, for everything else you’re gonna show me, but uh… for now?” She winced awkwardly. “Could we, um, get a little privacy, maybe?”
The first Dreamer’s smile broadened and she bowed her head in a similar fashion to Brainy’s initial greeting. She left without fanfare - one blink and she was gone.
Well, not gone, exactly. Nia knew that whether she could see the first Dreamer or not, a part of her would always remain within herself. In fact, that part had always been there.
She just hadn’t been looking hard enough before.

Prompt: "Do it. Take a chance, I'm begging you. You don't want to spend the rest of your life wondering what could have been."
Read on AO3
“What is it?” Kara huffed out, her frustration finally reaching critical mass.
“What’s what?” Alex replied, playing dumb by pretending to study the DEO’s monitors far too intently considering Kara had literally just dispatched the rogue villain of the week.
Kara crossed her arms, hip cocked forward slightly as she leant against the central console, blue eyes observing her sister's profile closely.
“Whatever you’re not telling me because you think it will upset me.” The superhero clarified bluntly, her social hesitation and uncertainty having dampened over the last few years.
She had learnt the hard way how important it was to never shy away from the truth and avoid speaking around the heart of the matter. It was a lesson she had absorbed completely, and it was one she refused to forget - needing to prove she had evolved, had bettered herself from the version that had required teaching in the first place.
“I’m not…” Alex refuted, shrugging dismissively but keeping her gaze trained forward, “There’s no-“
“Look, I’m asking you out of courtesy,” Kara cut in, “but you and I both know that I could just as easily ask Nia, and she would fold almost instantly.”
Alex grumbled irritably under her breath - Nia still had yet to build an effective resistance to Kara’s puppy dog eyes and this particular weakness had caused no small amount of trouble for Alex over the last five years.
“It is Lena related, right?” Kara checked, though it was completely unnecessary.
For Alex to actively try and keep a secret from her, it couldn’t be about anything else. And it had been more or less confirmed by her sister's reaction to her threatening to go to Nia.
“Just because I’m keeping a secret, doesn’t automatically mean it’s to do with Lena.” Alex tried, though the conviction behind her statement was weaker than wet tissue paper.
The redhead side-eyed her and Kara merely had to arch an unimpressed eyebrow in return for the DEO director to deflate.
“Okay maybe it’s a little to do with Lena.” Alex admitted with a wince, rubbing the back of her neck in defeat.
Kara threw her hands up in exasperation. “It’s been over five years, okay? I’m fine!”
Her bellowed declaration of stability, made the nearby DEO agents look over with a mix of curiosity and concern. Kara grimaced at the reaction and as such didn’t resist when Alex grabbed her arm and dragged her out of the central room and into her private office.
Alex turned to face her fully, lips pressed tight together and hands firm on her own hips (it had always annoyed Kara that Alex managed to make her signature superhero pose far more intimidating than her own attempts).
“Yelling I’m fine, definitely helps your case.” Alex retorted, voice dripping with sarcasm.
Kara had the good grace to look suitably embarrassed for a moment before launching into the same variation of the speech she gave every time there was a morsel of Lena news to be had. “I screwed up, okay? Big time screwed up - ‘regret it for the rest of my life’ screwed up!” Kara declared prompting a beleaguered sigh from her sister who knew the blatant lie that was coming next. “But I’ve made my peace with it. I won’t spiral into another depressive episode when I hear how happy she is.”
Alex shook her head, not even remotely convinced - not that Kara could blame her, the last time Alex had been pestered into telling her a Lena update, Kara had spent a weekend on a drinking binge that had successfully proven that there were limits even for a kryptonian.
“I don’t think-“ Alex began.
“What is it?” Kara demanded. “Is she getting another medal from the president?”
Alex shook her head, jaw clenching and unclenching. “Kara, you don’t want to know this.”
“Her and Kal save the world again?” Kara barrelled on, her lips curling into a jealous snarl. “The greatest Luthor and Super duo continue to make the world a better place?”
That particular news article had been printed and burned by Kara’s heat vision more times than she dared admit to anyone.
“Kara, please-“ Alex begged, expression crumpling as Kara relentlessly pushed.
“Tell me, I can take it.” Kara proclaimed, voice coming out high pitched and strained. “Is she dating someone again? Another famous actress? That Olympic male gymnast? What-“
“She’s getting married.”
A bomb must have gone off, Kara thought to herself.
A kryptonite bomb.
It was the only thing that could explain the ringing in her ears, and the way everything just… hurt.
A shard of kryptonite must have pierced her chest and cut her heart into jagged pieces. That was the only thing that could explain it.
“What?” She questioned, barely above a whisper. She didn’t quite recognise her own voice - it sounded shattered and unfamiliar. She also didn’t know what she was asking.
Didn’t know what ‘what’ was all about.
What just happened?
What did you say?
What post-apocalyptic reality are we living in now?
“Next week, she’s getting married.” Alex explained, giving Kara answers she no longer wanted. “Sam, Ruby, Kal and Lois are invited.”
She knew it should sting. Not being invited even though they hadn’t spoken in nearly five years. That she should feel something about the fact that Lena had omitted Alex, Brainy, Nia and J’onn as well - it further reinforced how Lena believed them to be Kara’s friends and never hers (which was one of the things Kara regretted most - how her poor treatment of Lena had infected and destroyed everyone else’s friendship with the youngest Luthor).
“To who?” Kara asked, tone cold, hollow… empty.
“Kara,” Alex murmured softly, reaching out to comfort her sister, “this clearly isn’t good for you.”
Kara jerked backwards so fast that the papers on Alex’s desk shot into the air, fluttering down around the sisters like snow.
“Just tell me!” Kara ordered, hands turned into white knuckle fists at her sides that would be capable of tearing through the strongest of metals. Her eyes heated but she managed to stave the fire in them as she glowered at her sister.
Alex slumped back, leaning heavily against her desk, running a frantic hand through her short hair. “Does it matter?” Alex muttered defeatedly, brown eyes filled with pity and sympathy as she stared up into Kara’s eyes.
“Of course it fucking matters,” Kara snapped in outrage before she had a chance to stop and think , “because it’s not me!”
The admission hung heavy and rotting between them. It wasn’t a revelation to either of them, though the fact that the intensity of Kara’s feelings hadn’t dampened despite the separation of half a decade was.
“Kara…” Alex breathed, standing back up and moving towards the blonde with the obvious intent of hugging her.
“I should get back to CatCo.” Kara mumbled, cheeks a fiery red with shame. She stepped hurriedly away from her sister and was already halfway out the door before she halted, turning back to call out a sad yet sincere. “Thanks for telling me.”

“I genuinely don’t get why you love these films so much.” Lena remarked, hands cupping her just made cup of cocoa, nose adorably scrunched up as she snuggled back down on the sofa beside Kara, who didn’t hesitate to wrap an arm around her best friend’s shoulders.
“They’re sweet and romantic.” Kara replied with a happy sigh, turning to nuzzle into the side of Lena’s head for a fleeting moment as the film’s lead started her joyful march down the aisle. “It makes me hopeful.”
“Hopeful?” Lena repeated curiously, leaning away slightly so she could meet Kara’s blue eyes.
Kara shrugged, ducking her head bashfully, “It’s stupid.”
“Hey,” Lena murmured gently, freeing a hand from her mug so that she could interlace her warmed fingers with Kara’s, “you could never be stupid, especially not about something like this.” Her best friend asserted, before asking seriously, “You want the classic big white wedding?”
“Uh…” Kara blushed, cheeks pinking as her mind struggled to kick into gear.
She didn’t know how to tell Lena that the reason she loved weddings more than any other event is because they so closely resembled Kryptonian Bonding ceremonies. That the exchanging of rings, polished everlasting metal, reminded her of wonderfully crafted bracelets clasped on wrists. That it was an occasion for family to join together across generations, for the rare flashes of art and music on Krypton to take centre stage over cold science.
She didn’t know how to tell Lena that after being alone, abandoned and lost - ripped away from her home in the cruelest of ways - that the idea of belonging to someone else, of having a home in someone else regardless of time or location was what Kara wanted more than anything else.
She didn’t know how to tell Lena because it would require admitting the truth of who she really was, it would require taking accountability for years of lies.
She didn’t know how to tell Lena without losing her forever.
“Yeah.” Kara coughed awkwardly, “I want the whole thing. Beautiful dress, surrounded by family… the love of my life at the end of the aisle. Everything.” She shot Lena a side-long glance, “I’m guessing you don’t?”
“Never really been my thing,” Lena admitted readily and Kara’s heart twisted at how Lena didn’t hesitate to bare herself, how she gave all of herself when it could be argued that Kara - at best - only gave half, “probably because I can’t imagine I have enough people in my life to invite and feel ‘surrounded’.” Lena pursed her lips thoughtfully, “I also don’t get the need for the spectacle. Just the idea that there’s someone out there that would want to…” Kara watched her best friend deflate, expression wistful and pained, “be with me, love me like that… that’s more than enough.”
Kara’s eyes stung with barely suppressed tears at how little Lena thought of herself. Whoever had the privilege of marrying her best friend would be the single luckiest and most fortunate person in the universe and Kara wished Lena knew that, wished she believed it. But when she opened her mouth to say it, to proclaim it, her breath faltered and her courage abandoned her… like it always did with the youngest Luthor.
“So no white dress?” Kara muttered instead, voice meek and lacking the lightheartedness that should have carried the question.
It didn’t matter, though, Lena let out a quick exhale that resembled something on the edge of laughter. Kara’s escalating heart rate settled at that, however, it did little to alleviate the pang of regret that was steadily accompanying all her interactions with the CEO.
“Well, I guess I could be convinced by someone special.” Lena teased, shooting Kara an overtly salacious wink that wouldn’t - on the surface - be considered genuine.
“Anyone that marries you will have to be special.” Kara replied, the statement tumbling out instantly.
It wasn’t the heartfelt confession that Kara wished it to be and it wasn’t quite light enough to be dismissed as a friendly reassurance. Instead, it was yet another thing that fell into the ethereal greyness that lied between them, something to tuck away and think back on late at night when they tried to work out if the other meant it the way they wished they did.
“Yeah?” Lena whispered, piercing green eyes studying Kara’s face closely.
Kara swallowed thickly, “Yeah.”
Xxx
Lena found out less than six weeks after that movie night. They defeated Lex and Kara had been on the edge of breathing easy, of being able to simply relax back into her life when it all came crashing down.
They had been at Games Night and Kara had been antsy, waiting for her best friend to arrive. The thought of pulling Lena into a hug had been what she had been looking forward to most all day.
Kara was at peace, laughing and drinking with her friends - her family - when Lena had arrived. Kara had beamed up at her immediately and for a second Lena’s entrancing green eyes lit up in return before turning dark and distant.
Kara’s smile faltered, crinkle appearing between her brows when-
The wine bottle smashed into the wall behind Kara’s head.
Deathly silence fell over the area.
Kara looked into hollow, emptied out versions of her favourite green. She would have preferred anger, fury, rage… the defeated nothingness staring back at the Kryptonian was far worse.
Lena turned and left, grinding Kara’s heart to dust and taking the sand particles left with her.
She knew.
She knew because Lex had told her.
She knew because she had gone to stop her brother, intent on saving the world like always only to find out that those she was saving the world for didn’t view her as their equal. That the people she treated as family had kept her on the outskirts. That her best friend had lied, had manipulated, had-

It was Lois that found out everything from Lena.
When the fallout had happened, as Kara and the Superfriends realised what they had lost, the blonde hero sent notice to her cousin that his identity was probably known as well (mostly because she remembered how hurt she had been when Kal shared her secret without her consent). Kal and Lois had arrived almost immediately, frantic and terrified (especially with baby Jon to consider) at the concept of a Luthor knowing their identity.
Kara, joined by all the Superfriends, quickly put their minds to rest, sharing Lena’s actions from before, her dependability, kindness and inherent goodness. Kal and Lois were convinced their secret was safe but they were horrified to hear how Lena had been isolated and kept at arms length after her considerable good deeds. Alex and the others had squirmed uncomfortably and tried to weakly talk around their hesitancy.
Kal and Lois had simply looked at Kara for an explanation but she had none. Yet again the words would not come.
It was Lois, therefore, that had sought out the youngest Luthor and through her incredible tenacity was able to gain access where everyone else was rebuffed and harshly rejected.
It was Lois that comforted Lena, gave her support and sympathy.
It was Lois that relayed Lena’s demand that they give her space.
It was Lois that suggested Lena return to Metropolis - presenting it as a way to celebrate how L-Corp, after Lena’s repeated sacrifices and heroism, was fully rehabilitated and ready to reclaim its once home.
It was Lois that encouraged Lena and Kal to work together becoming an unstoppable force that Kara and Lena had always danced on the precipice of.
A Luthor and a Super. Saving the world.
xxx
Kara did as asked. Gave Lena space. Or at least the semblance of space.
She checked in constantly, hovered nearby throughout the days and nights leading upto L-Corp’s departure and Lena along with it. She followed Lena’s jet to Metropolis, a sentinel ensuring safe passage.
She kept her distance for three months. Three months of stony silence before she broke.
Snapped, more like.
Landing on Lena’s new balcony in Metropolis that had been specially built for Superman this time - not for her, though Kara, at the time, had hoped that she had been considered consciously or unconsciously as well.
Kara couldn’t remember the exact words.
She remembered crying from beginning to end.
Remembered ‘I loved you’ - past tense.
Remembered finally breaking through Lena’s cold, hardened shell to the raw, bleeding wound hidden underneath and regretting it almost immediately.
Remembered how seeing Lena’s agony was worse than kryptonite, worse than watching Krypton burn…
Remembered Lena saying she needed time to heal, for Kara to stop hovering nearby - because she knew, she sensed Kara’s presence even without seeing her once - and to give her time to stop thinking of Kara and feeling only pain when she did so.
Remembered promising to do just that.
Remembered a timer starting to count in her head - the seconds that she would be condemned to purgatory.
Remembered the hope that just refused to go out - the hope that whispered give it time, give it time, give it time with every beat of her heart.
Remembered thinking that given enough time Lena would reach out and they would get the chance that Kara had almost destroyed for them.
Remembered flying zig-zagged and dangerous to Alex where her endless stream of tears returned to full flow as she sobbed into her sister’s shoulder using words and phrases like ‘heartbroken’ and ‘I love her’ and ‘I can’t survive this pain’ and ‘what do I do?’ and ‘I can’t breathe’.
Remembered a hollowed out shell of Kara Danvers moving through the motions for a year, for two, three, four… five...
Remembered taking up drinking to excess whenever she saw Lena’s life flourish and grow - not because she didn’t want Lena to be happy, that was what Kara wanted and wished for more than anything - because she wasn’t there with her for those life-changing events.
Remembered Alex and Kelly’s worries growing with each occurrence, intervening more and more to such a degree that they encouraged Kara to consider AA meetings - she did eventually, and found destroying entire junkyards to be a healthier coping mechanism, external destruction rather than internal.
Remembered Brainy at the behest of Alex, setting up Kara’s phone and computer to prevent searching for any keywords affiliated to Lena and to alert Alex if Kara ever managed to stumble upon a news article.
Remembered listening to Kal and Lois skipping large parts of stories where it was clear that Lena was involved - it was nice in some way to know Lena was getting the credit she deserved, but it hurt when Kal’s stories started to involve gaps at Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year (events that made Kara’s loneliness even more acute and her longing intensify).
Remembered her life without Lena.
Remembered regret and guilt and loss.
Remembered-
“She’s getting married.”
xxx
Kara shouldn’t have been there. Shouldn’t be anywhere in the vaguest vicinity of where she currently was.
The bride was dressed in a simple silky white shift, sipping intermittently from her champagne glass as she stared contemplatively up at the designer white dress hanging off the door in front of her. Raven locks were pinned up, so tight and intricate that it made Kara wince sympathetically at how it must tug and pinch at the bride’s scalp - she’d always preferred it down, loose and curling… soft and inviting. The bride’s make-up was artistic with a dramatic edge that would captivate but made her look… not like herself in Kara’s opinion.
Or maybe after five years it made Lena look more like herself - the version of herself she had become once free of Kara and all the pain she brought into her life.
She was hovering outside the dressing room window, trying to work out how far she was willing to take this. If it would be better to leave without saying anything, to try and leave some part of Lena’s life unspoiled.
It was the fear that she had always given into when she was best friends with Lena that made her decision for her. Like speaking her truth and learning to ask for what she wanted - Kara had also promised herself that she would never allow that bone deep fear to stop her ever again.
The window was open and it was as good an invite as Kara was ever going to get.
“Lena?”
The beautiful bride-to-be jerked in her place, champagne glass nearly tumbling to the floor but saved at the last second.
She didn’t turn around for a beat… then two…
Kara was just about to escape back through the window when Lena exhaled slowly and pivoted round to meet her.
“Kara?” Lena breathed out, green eyes closed off and wary.
The kryptonian studied the love of her life for a moment, taking in every little detail - soaking it all up as if accepting that this would be the last time she might ever get to see it again. That the timer that had counted past five years would stop after this moment, the hope powering it gone forever.
“Don’t marry them, please.” Kara requested, no flowery language, no build up. Just the honest truth.
“What?” Lena’s jaw dropped and the champagne glass didn’t survive the second shock, crashing to the ground - released by trembling fingers.
“Don’t marry them.” Kara repeated, uncaring of how the carpet below them soaked up the amber liquid.
Lena’s expression flitted through an array of emotions before settling on indignant rage, “And why the hell not?!”
Kara didn’t flinch, didn’t retreat, instead she stood taller, the crest of her super suit catching the early afternoon light. “Because it should have been me. It still should be me.”
Lena scoffed in disbelief, “You can’t be serious. Now? You’re doing this now?”
Kara pursed her lips, fighting back the regret that always came with the reminders of countless missed opportunities. “Yes.”
The straightforwardness of Kara’s answers seemed to be throwing Lena, leaving her wrong-footed, clearly expecting the blonde to talk around and hint and imply like she used to.
But Kara had learnt. (The lesson had been too painful not to.)
“You had years, Kara!” Lena argued, “Years where I…. I threw myself at you. Practically begged you to love me… to trust me…”
“I know.” Kara replied sadly, wanting desperately to reach out when Lena’s pretty green eyes began to glisten with unshed tears. “I know. But I’m here now.”
“I don’t want you to be.” Lena muttered, arms crossed over her chest and head ducked downwards to hide her expression.
“I know that too.” Kara assured, fingers twitching with the desire to make contact, to comfort and coax - even after all these years her body remembered, the pathways of hardwired instinct related to her best friend were still there, still active even if temporarily closed for service.
“Then why are you here?” Lena murmured, voice barely above a whisper.
“Because I’m in love with you.”
Lena’s head snapped up at that, green eyes like saucers.
Kara’s single biggest regret was that she had never said those words to Lena before, had alluded and pointed at them during their final interaction but had never outright said them. And Lena had deserved to hear them then and deserved to hear them now to forever vanquish the doubts that had always been with her.
“Because I’m in love with you and we didn’t get our chance.” Kara affirmed, taking a half step closer to the bride, her red heeled boots and Lena’s bare feet meaning the younger woman had to tip her head ever so slightly back to maintain eye contact. “We didn’t get our chance because of me. Because I was afraid, I was so afraid of losing you. Of doing even the slightest thing that could mean you weren’t in my life. And in the end every action I took out of fear of losing you ensured just that. I’ve spent five years without you, Lena, and I can’t bear a single day more.”
“Kara,” Lena whispered, “I’m getting married.”
“I know.” Kara smiled sadly before adding, “Don’t.”
“What are you suggesting? Seriously?” Lena sighed, shaking her head mournfully and Kara knew she was losing her then.
“I’m suggesting that we have our chance now before it's gone forever.”
Gathering the small amount of courage Kara had left, she tentatively let her hands nudge forwards, brushing against Lena’s cool, pale fingers. That small contact was everything. Made it easier to breathe, made the colours of the world more vibrant, made everything just more.
“I let fear hold me back from the person that made me happiest in the entire universe and I won’t let it hold me back again.”
“Kara…” Lena whimpered, glancing back over her shoulder at the closed door that her wedding dress was displayed on, though she didn’t pull her hand away from Kara’s touch, didn’t flinch or retreat.
“Do it.” Kara pleaded, stepping across that final slither of distance between them, her forehead leaning forward to rest gently against the side of Lena’s, “Take a chance, I’m begging you. You don’t want to spend the rest of your life wondering what could have been.”
Lena inhaled shakily, head returning to forward facing - foreheads pressed against one another, breathing in the same air - and then… and then…
Lena’s hands slipped fully into Kara’s, fingers intertwining together.

Wanted to share this scene from the Brainiac 5 x Superman fic I'm writing, that you can read here. I apologise in advance that Tumblr Mobile won't let me make read mores, forgive me ♡♡♡♡
--------------------
'And you're sure this is legal?' Clark asked as Jimmy showed off the listening device strapped to his chest, a large dish satellite in his hand.
'I mean, yes. Only in a few states but Metropolis is one of them! And Gotham so what does that tell you.' He chuckled darkly as he patted the box.
'I don't know. I don't want my name associated with a lawsuit.' Louis muttered over her mug of coffee.
'Mr Kent?' The floor' receptionist Donna asked, poking her head from her office.
'The reception is calling for you? Said your roommate wants to see you.' She said and Clark perked up instantly.
'Brainy?' He stood up too quickly, knocking over a mug of pencils and pens as he scooted around Jimmy and his contraption.
'Be right back.' He said over his shoulder as he rushed off. Not seeing the curious air in the room full of reporters.
'Roommate? I didn't know he had a roommate?' Jimmy asked with a sulk.
'I did~.' Louis bragged with a shimmy of her shoulders.
The rest of his colleagues joined in and soon they'd migrated to the outside hallway and its glass walls looking down at the reception below them.
'Wait, the blond?' Jimmy asked and Louis nodded, Jimmy gave a low whistle.
'Yep, his name's Querl but Clark has this cute nickname for him, apparently they've known each other for years but he recently moved here…. Right into Clark' apartment.' She said with just enough hint that her hungry coworkers immediately wanted more.
'No way, Clark?'
'I knew it. I knew it.'
'I'm more surprised he's in a relationship.'
'I thought he had a thing for louis.'
'Quiet quiet!' Jimmy shushed, turning the machine on as Clark ran from the stairs entrance.
The machine beeped and scritched till he got it right and just in time too.
'Brainy! Is everything okay?' Clark asked worriedly, coming up and for a moment looking like he was going to hug the smaller man.
'You forgot your lunch. I hope I'm not being a bother.' He said nervously, holding up the bag the group recognised as where Clark usually kept his food.
'You're a lifesaver, I thought I'd have to order in.' He sighed in relief, taking the bag and noticing something as he opened it.
'Oh? There's extra?' He asked and his roommate rubbed the back of his neck nervously.
'I passed by that bakery you liked, so I thought- you hardly eat enough as it is.' He huffed and the group wondered if Brainy was blind because Clark Kent ate more than the office combined.
'Thank you. I uh, I really appreciate it.' Clark said in a dreamy way as he smiled at Brainy like a ray of sunshine.
'Yes, well. I should let you go back to work.' Brainy rushed out, suddenly unsure what to do with his hands.
'Hey, uhm. When I finish, how about we go out? We could go for a fly by?' He said.
'He told me he didn't like the Superman slang.' Jimmy huffed.
'Shhh.' Louis shushed aggressively.
'I'd love to! I mean I- Yes. That would be nice and… I'll see you tonight, Clark.' He said and the way he said Clark was all the evidence the group needed as they hummed and  nodded at each other.
'I should let you go-...... Clark, are those your colleagues?' He said, pointing at the window and Clark spun in place as they scrambled away with screeches, feeling like teenagers getting caught peeking as they rushed back to their desks full of giggles.
A few moments later, Clark Kent burst into the office, red faced and scowling at them all before focusing on Jimmy.
'I am so mad right now, you know what? I'm not speaking to you.' He said, and really that was the harshest thing any of them had ever heard Clark say.
'Sorry, sorry. We were curious.' Jimmy begged, hands clasped in prayer.
'Yeah, how come you didn't tell us you had a boyfriend?'
'Yeah, we got the gay flag up and everything, this is a safe space.'
'Mark from accounting is gay.'
'Hes adopting!'
Clark went even redder, his ears burning as he looked around.
'Brainy and I are just friends!' He exclaimed to shocked silence.
Louis stood up, ushering Clark to his seat.
'Alright, office gossip hours are over, anymore and I'll be sending you to HR.' She joked.
'But- Louis, why do they think we're dating? Is it because he brought me food?' He asked cluelessly and Louis sat him down and patted his shoulders.
'Oh you sweet labrador retriever of a man.' She said through chuckles.
He pouted at that. Putting the bag under his desk and returning to work.
As she passed she bent down to Jimmy who looked worriedly at Clark's back.
'Don't worry too much. Just don't bring that thing out on your next job.' She advised and Jimmy gave a hearty nod, kicking the machine to the back of his desk.
Clark looked over the word document blankly. His face was still hot as he pouted. He should have known they'd tease him, he was usually good for jokes but something about what they'd implied had him spinning in his skull.
They were not dating but- should they be? They were having sex fairly regulalry and they were fighting crime together…
He guessed he could see why people would think they were seeing each other in a romantic sense but they'd never even kissed.
Not for a lack of wanting too. He gave a sigh as he thought of just last night. Brainy had been so close, practically begging to be kissed but he didn't, too scared of being rejected.
Maybe he should ask? Clear the air a little but the thought of Brainy saying it was just sex or that he didnt like Clark like that? It made him sad and a little angry.
He'd gotten far too used to Brainy's constant companionship. Brainy knew both sides of him and liked him for both.
Clark didn't want to lose that. He'd try to ask a little tonight, just some leading questions, nothing serious.

Supergirl 6x9: Dream Weaver.
Hello everyone! This is a little later because I had a random mandatory class to attend this week and then had a whole day of workshops. ANYWAY, so how did I find this episode of Supergirl? Let’s find out. As always, SPOLIERS AHEAD.
A Kelly and Nia focused episode? I’m already giving this episode 5 stars based on that alone lol.
But seriously, the episode starts off with game night. Dansen is crushing whatever game they’re playing and it’s super cute. I think J’onn, who is technically a psychic, accused Alex and Kelly of being ones. It was a very cute moment for the Superfriends.
Kara not participating because Lena isn’t there is sending me through all kinds of loops of hell.
Speaking of, I didn’t mind that Brainy and Lena weren’t in this episode. I think by having the smaller numbers to work with, it allowed the focus to really stay on the two major plots running through this episode. I know some people were disappointed, but I actually like the decision.
Okay, so major plotline one is Kelly’s story. She’s working now as a social worker and the way that she instantly connected to the children was so beautiful. Also, that young girl is definitely Dansen’s future child, and I’m effing here for it. She was really funny and I’m glad that the ‘Alex wants to be a mom’ storyline hasn’t been forgotten this season (looking at you, s5).
Kelly and Kara teaming up to tackle the prison was awesome. But holy smokes, I couldn’t stop laughing when Kara used her eye lasers in front of the cop at the desk and SHE DIDN’T NOTICE? SHE DIDN’T NOTICE THE HOLE IN HER MUG. Not only that, then Kara zips behind the counter to investigate and nobody notices because that woman is apparently the only person who works the counters. I seriously couldn’t stop laughing, but it a good way.
I really liked that Kelly knew right away that there was some shady shit going down at the prison and the foster home. She ain’t a fool. Her riding the motorcycle into the night was awesome and I loved that she swiped that video feed no problem.
Okay, Nia for a bit. Nia is having recurring dreams about her mother because she very very desperately wants to see her again. Nyxly is back and is somehow in Nia’s dreamscape. This was vaguely explained but whatever, I’ll let it slide. Nyxly is trying to team up with Nia to get back into the human world, and Nia is too smart to fall for that.
Also, the dreamscape looked like a Taylor Swift music video.
Kara is working to stop the prisoners because they’re stealing stuff to build a bomb. I actually liked the whole factory part where she appeals to their humane side instead of just busting skulls. Kara’s hope speeches(TM) can be silly at times, but I liked it here. I do wish that they did some callback to s4 in someway, since the whole anti-alien thing was such a strong theme and Kara was a victim there too, but overall I thought it was a touching moment.
I forgot to mention this earlier but part of Kara’s storyline is her doing journalism again and I’m very happy. Andrea is a super crappy boss though, lol. She is the one who ruined CatCo yet she’s being such a crazy person about the ratings. Also, they moved up from 8th to 3rd this episode, so obviously they’re doing something right. But Andrea also gets bonus points for letting Nia take a mental health day. We stan a crappy boss who cares?
William being a work buddy and strictly a work buddy works here. I actually didn’t mind the team up for the most part. The only time I did was when Kara needed William to point out that the obviously shady prison warden was shady. It was one of those moments where they made Kara dumber than she is.
Kara does an interview to expose the corruption. I think overall this was a bit clunky in execution, but it was still a solid effort.
I teared up when Kelly reunited Joey and Orlando. Then I full on cried when Esme called Kelly a Guardian Angel. It was so nice. Then I teared up again when Alex gave Kelly Jimmy’s old Guardian stuff. Yay for Kelly!
Nia ends up ignoring the owl (who is obviously suppose to represent her mom) and agrees to work with Nyxly because she is so desperate to see her mom one more time. It’s really heartbreaking and I knew that it was coming. I think this storyline was the weakest one, but it still hit home. I’m curious to see where this ends up.
WHERE DID M’GANN GO?
OH, I also forgot this earlier. Alex goes out onto the balcony and encourages Kelly. It’s a really touching scene. I loved it. Then I realized it paralleled a scene that Lena and Kara had. I swear to effing God, this show.
So overall, this was a strong episode. CatCo felt relevent again. Kelly Olsen shined. Nia got to have some spotlight. Kara is realizing that both Kara and Supergirl bring something to the table. I’m excited for next week’s episode!

This show will be the death of me. I said, I SAID, so many times last year I wouldn’t get involved with this show again but I really just wanted to write Lena getting back together with everyone for the first time again. So fuck it.
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
Welcome Back
Lena does not fidget.
Well, at least in front of other people. Her fingers picked at the edge of her sweater as she looked down at the text.
“Want to come over for movie night?”
Her nerves creep in as she looks at the message. The idea of doing something normal with friends seemed like it was so out of reach months ago. Now here she was debating how to reply to Kara’s texts. She knows Kara wouldn’t have invited her if everyone didn’t want her to come. But she still couldn’t help the nagging feeling that she was going to be intruding. As if she could sense Lena’s hesitance another text popped up.
“It's me, Nia, Kelly, Alex and Brainy. Nia picked the movie so we're watching Death Becomes Her. Have you seen it? ” Lena’s heart clutches as her eyes scan the text. She quickly types out a response before she can overthink this.
“I haven’t seen it but I’d love to watch it when you all.” Only a few seconds pass before there’s a reply.
“Awesome! We’re starting at 7. See ya then!”
Seven o’clock came so fast, Lena barely had any time to talk herself into not going. The entire ride there her mind was riddled with worse case scenarios. As the thoughts swirled in her head the elevator dinged, the two doors sliding open. Her fingers toyed with the buttons of her jacket as she looked down the brightly lit hallway. It should be easy to just walk in, right? The sounds of hearty laughter float down the hallway and Lena took a steadying breath.
This was going to be fine.
Her body eventually moved forward, taking slow steps down the hall until she stopped in front of the familiar door. More happy chatter could be heard as her hand raised for a tentative knock. It died down slightly when the door finally opened, revealing Kara who wore bright smile.
“Hey you.” Her gentle tone forced away some of the insecurities Lena felt but not completely .
“Hi.” Her voice was small. Kara’s brows came together as she looked at Lena’s worried expression. She looked back at everyone chatting in the living room before shutting the door behind them.
“Are you alright?” Kara asked once they were alone.
“I’m fine. I...just. I don’t know.” Her thoughts were muddled and confusing, she wasn’t sure how to express it.
“You’re worried.” Kara said while she reached out to take one of Lena’s hands, Lena immediately looked down at the contact. In fear that she had crossed some kind of line, Kara started to let go but Lena held on.
“I am. I’m scared everyone is going to hate me.” Answering honestly was the right thing to do but the words were difficult to get out.
“Lena.” Kara’s hands rubbed up her arms, the warmth in her expression made Lena want to burst into tears. “No one hates you. I swear. If there were still problems I wouldn’t have had everyone over today. We’ve apologized so many times to each other. Let’s just have a nice evening with our friends? Alright?”
“Okay. I’d like that.” Lena sniffed, trying to keep it together.
“And no crying because if you start I will too.” Her hand came up to cup Lena’s cheek, heart fluttering when Lena laughed.
“I can’t guarantee that but I’ll try.”
“That’s all I ask.” Kara smiled before chewing on her lip as she debated if she was going to ask the next question. She wasn’t sure if they were there yet but she decided to just ask anyways.  “...And maybe if you’re up for it, when everyone's heads out later you can finish telling about that book you were reading? I never got to hear how it ended.”
Lena lit up at the mention of the book she’d been reading a few months ago. Kara was always eager to listen whenever Lena told her about the newest book she was reading. When they had time, Lena used to read a few chapters while Kara listened. She would be enraptured as she absorbed every sentence and the smooth tone of Lena’s voice.  They both desperately missed the little tradition.
“You’re going to be pissed when I tell you how it ends.” Lena grinned.
“It was that bad?”
“You’ll have to find out later.” She teased.
“That’s cruel.” Kara smiled back, feeling Lena’s fingers unconsciously toy with hers as they looked at one another. The door suddenly cracked open, Alex’s head poking out.
“Hey you two! If you take any longer we’re going to start without you. And Hi, Lena.” She smiled at Lena who gave her a slightly stiff nod in return.
“Hi, sorry about the wait. We’ll be in in a second.” Lena replied and Alex shook her head before ducking back in the apartment.
“You ready?” Kara asked, giving her hand a reassuring squeeze.
“Yes, let's do this.”
All Lena’s thoughts and doubts faded as soon as she entered the apartment. There was no malice or underlying irritation with her presence. Everyone greeted her happily including her in whatever they were chattering about until Nia shushed them all because the movie was starting.
“Let this one be better than the last you picked.” Brainy commented at the opening credits.
“Oh my god! I picked one bad movie and you’ll never let me live it down.” Nia sighed, nudging him with her shoulder. Nia made eye contact with Lena, rolling her eyes in fake annoyance with Brainy. Lena smiled soft back, shaking her head as the movie continued. She sat on the couch next to Kelly with Kara sitting on the floor in front of her. At some point during the movie her hand started playing with one of the long blonde curls. Kara leaned back a little further, enjoying the touch as the movie played. The comments the group made during the film nearly made Lena choke on her wine from laughing on multiple occasions.
Movie night somehow turned into a partial game night once the film ended. Lena knew they were all competitive when it came to games but it was a little out of control tonight. Somehow a simple game of catch phrase had everyone shouting and screaming at one another. Kelly and Alex were the most terrifying out of the group but it was all good fun.
“I am not being a sore loser.” Brainy grumbled as Kelly grinned at him.
“I think you are just a little bit.” Kelly teased. Before he could reply Alex stopped them.
“Okay, before this gets even more out of hand I think we’re going to hit the road.” Alex pulled her slightly tipsy girlfriend off the couch before she and Brainy could keep bickering.
“Fine fine.” Kelly gave Alex a quick kiss on her cheek before pulling Lena into a hug.
“Are you coming next week too?” She asked, receiving a happy nod from Lena.
“I wouldn’t miss it.” Lena was surprised at how excited she was at the thought. God she missed this. Both Alex and Nia gave her a tight hug as well before they left, Brainy settling for a slightly awkward handshake. But he was equally happy to have Lena back in their group. The door clicked shut, leaving Kara and Lena alone.
“So about that book, you gotta tell me now!” Kara gleefully pulled Lena back over to the couch.
“Okay okay I won’t keep you waiting. In the eighteenth chapter there-” Her sentence was cut off when Kara turned sharply towards the window. “Something wrong?”
“Yeah, there’s an emergency. I can hear it.” Kara sighed.
“Well go take care of it, it's fine. I can...wait here?” She said unsurely.
“That’d be great. I shouldn’t be gone long. Just umm-ah..make yourself at home and I’ll be back. You know where everything is and if I’m gone for more than an hour just-” She could feel herself starting to ramble and thankfully Lena stopped her.
“Go save the city. I’ll be fine. I promise.” She patted Kara’s thigh to get her to calm down.
“Okay. Well, I’ll be back.” In a flash Kara was in her suit, Lena stared in wonder. It was still amazing how fast she was. With one more wave Kara shot off into the night.
Lena kept herself busy while Kara was gone, deciding to watch a documentary. She was in the middle of brewing some tea when the windows breezed open again. Kara picked at a few leaves in her hair as she walked over.
“How’d it go?” Lena asked.
“Fine, just a very upset alien. But we talked it out.” She shrugged casually. Her eyes finally looked to Lena who was staring at her. “What?”
“Nothing!” Lena replied quickly, feeling her face heat at being caught staring. That damned suit was going to be the death of her. “Tea?” She asked, feeling Kara’s eyes still on her.
“I’d love some.” In a flash, Kara was back in her comfortable clothes and accepted a mug from Lena’s hands. They made their way back over to the couch, sitting close together as they propped their feet up on the coffee table.
“Now do you want to try this again?” Lena asked as she got comfortable.
“Yes!” Kara replied eagerly, tossing a blanket over their legs.
“You’re not going to be happy.” Lena chuckled at the impatient noise Kara made.
“Stop stalling.” She whined.
“Alright alright. The eighteenth chapter starts with them finding out their father lied.”
“What!” Kara shouted and Lena laughed harder.
“I know. I know.” She giggled, meeting Kara’s gaze.
Kara let out a wistful sight before speaking. “I missed this.” She said softly as she rested her head on Lena’s shoulder.
“Me too.” She resisted the urge to kiss the top of Kara’s head, although she swore she saw a faint blush on Kara’s cheeks. Ignoring the longing in her soul she continued with the story. “After we find out their father lied, they decide to go deeper into the mansion in investigate.” She held in a laugh as Kara let out another frustrated noise. It was late into the evening by the time Lena finished telling her how the book ended. Kara had turned on one of her comfort shows to make up for the book's terrible ending. The pair stayed cuddled close to one another on the couch as they drifted off, fingers intertwined while they slept.

FIAT LUX
Everyone sees the girl of steel as an almighty, indestructible being. But before being a hero, she is a person, and this implies some quirks. Some fears as well.
Chapter 2
(Chp 1) // (ao3)
Of course Lena knows about Kara's love of phosphorescent things, and especially about those sneakers.
She can actually see the shoes' faint glow in her entry every single evening, when Kara gets back home. And if now it has become a comforting sight, something she looks for when she wakes up and Kara was on patrol the previous night, it has not always been that way.
The first time she had seen that greenish glow... she had thought of kryptonite.
She had been quietly reading perched on her couch, when Kara had finally gotten back home from a grueling long workday. The blonde had an agar look on her face, leaving her bag and kicking her shoes off. Lena had heard her mumbling something about breaking pencils, spilled coffee and needing a shower, before heading to Lena’s luxurious bathroom.
Lena had decided to let her girlfriend unwind for a while before asking about that apparently rough day. Now that she knew about Kara's alter ego, she understood her girlfriend's clumsiness on a whole new level and knew that a simple task could require a lot of focus from her. Consequently, the number of incidents grew up accordingly as the hours of the day passed, and many phones had been the innocent victims to the super's strength.
Lena was getting lost in her historical novel once again, when she had noticed a faint light in her entry.
Odd, she had thought. Lights are turned off. What’s there?
She had closed her book before getting up to check on that. On her way, she had grabbed her phone, just as a precaution. After so many assassination attempts, she had learnt that communication means where really what mattered (as well as an efficient punch in the nose from time to time).
A couple of meters away in the entry, she could distinguish a faint greenish light coming from the messenger bag that Kara had abandoned there.
A bomb.
She started to run toward the bathroom. She needed to warn Kara! The kryptonite would suppress her powers, she had to flee! She speed dialed Alex to ask for an intervention squad while barging in the bathroom.
"Lena?! What's going on? Why are…?" Kara stammered when Lena had opened the shower cabin.
"You have to go!" Lena had said in a hurry while dragging the soaping blonde out of the shower.
"To go? But, why? Lena, what's…"
"There's a bomb Kara!" Lena shouted at her, in a near panic
She needs to go, she thought to herself. If it's kryptonite, she is even more at risk then me. The residual radiations would deepen any potential injury and worsen her state. And considering the rate of cellular degradation from direct exposure, even the DEO may not be fast enough.
"Lena, you, hide while I take it away." Kara stated while fumbling to activate her suit.
"You don't understand. It's kryptonite. You can't risk getting anywhere near it!"
"What?" Kara exclaimed. "But, I thought you had installed a biometric security system after last time?"
"I did!" Lena answered while trying to shove the unmovable kryptonian toward their bedroom, where she could escape through the window.
"But there is that greenish glow in the entry, and I know how to recognize kryptonite Kara. Believe me if…"
Kara had held up a hand to stop her mid sentence.
"You said in the entry?" she had calmly inquired.
"Yes! Why do you care where it is? It's still a bomb Kara." Lena said, her voice filled with exasperation.
And Kara had laughed. She had laughed till tears streamed down her face, mixing with water and shampoo left from her half finished shower. She had laughed even harder when Lena started to scream at her to go while she had time.
The brunette started to fear it may be something else than kryptonite, and that it was messing up Kara's mind because who laughs at the prospect of a toxic bomb in their apartment for God's sake?!
Kara didn't stop before hearing her talking to Alex, asking for help in their apartment. That got her attention, and she took the phone out of Lena's hand before uttering between giggles
"No it's fine Alex. Lena… Lena thought my shoes were some kryptonite trap. Can you, can you believe that?!"
Lena felt as if she could hear the groan Alex surely made to accompany her “I’m tired of my sister” expression.
Well I guess 13 years of that kind of shenanigan does that to someone, Lena mused. She had only known Kara for 3 years, and yet she was sure she had her own special kind frown as well.
Kara ended the call, promising they would explain more clearly tomorrow, before proceeding to explain that what she had thought to be a kryptonian bomb was only the new sneakers she had bought that were phosphorescent.
“They are the best glow in the dark shoes one can buy Lena! I had to get them, you understand?” she said as if her point was obvious, bouncing on her feet like a kid who had just been promised a trip to the candy store after school.
Lena had debated throwing the shoes out the window, just for the scare they had given her, and also because she wanted to erase Kara’s smirk.
Now the blonde keeps referring to that moment to tease Lena, a reminder that the genius she is got fooled by glow in the dark material. But coming from the Luthor family, can you blame her for thinking of an assassination attempt first?
And if that incident wasn't enough, the hour-long rant Alex gave her about Kara's love for glowing things would have clued her on it.
The next day, Lena had dropped by the DEO, willing to apologize for the false alert of the previous day. She knew Kara had said they would all gather at the end of the day for a drink, but Lena felt the need to see Alex first thing in the morning. Those apologies also included freshly brewed coffee from the best roaster in town, and enough pastries to satisfy a small army. The redhead vented to her for an hour straight, using memories from their shared childhood in Midvale to illustrate her explanation. As well as justify her exasperation with her sister’s eccentricities.
Lena took the opportunity to learn what her girlfriend was like when she got on Earth, Kara oddly quiet about this period of her life. She also thought it was the safest move possible in her situation, to let Alex get it out of her system. No one wanna get on the bad side of their possible future sister in law, and even less when they work for a secret agency that has a knack for making people disappear.
What she learns though, makes her see some of her girlfriend's habits under a new light.
Lena knew it must have been incredibly jarring to not only start a new life on a foreign planet, but learning that she had been lost in space for decades, and that Kal-El didn’t need her anymore must have been devastating. It was her mission after all, the reason why her parents had sent her away. Knowing that now, she didn’t have any purpose anymore… And it goes without saying that the enhanced senses she suddenly gained thanks to the yellow sun, would be enough to drive anyone crazy on their own. Heart beats, motors, reading through a book, crushing your mug of hot chocolate accidentally,... And all that during teenage years. Earth must have looked like hell at first. No wonder why Kara is unusually quiet whenever this topic arises. But Lena sensed there may be something else lying there, and since she wouldn't pry at Kara's traumatic memories, Alex was the next best best source for informations.
So far, she only thought Kara was that kind of forgetful/lazy person that never really complete a task. When the blonde would leave the curtains in their bedroom slightly open, or their door ajar, or her phone on the bedside table and always displaying time. Lena simply thought that Kara didn’t mind any of it. And since it wasn't bothering herself much, she let her do.
For Lena it was just Kara's little quirks. Just like her love for phosphorescent things.
Though, now that she thinks of it, she can remember an incident that happened when Kara had first moved in with her.
So far, in their relationship, the blonde had rarely slept over at Lena's place. Either because Lena was actually the one sleeping over, or Supergirl was needed for an emergency mission, or when Lena was travelling the country for scientific and technological conventions and checking up on branches of L-Corp. They had decided to move in together to make things easier for both of them. There was no point in sneaking around like lovesick teenagers, and Kara had already claimed two drawers at Lena's (who was very keen on borrowing oversized sweaters from said drawers when her girlfriend couldn't be around).
The move in itself was as smooth as possible: Kara stacked her boxed belongings in the van, Alex drove it to Lena's place, Kelly had looked for the best itinerary during this busy week day, and Lena had prepared snacks for everyone once they'd arrive. All in all, it had been the matter of a day.
Alex and Kelly had stayed over for dinner at Lena's demand, and Kara had just dug out what she would need for the next day.
"It will all be unboxed tomorrow Lena. What would be the point in putting it all back in the boxes now?" Kara had said, when Lena pointed out she couldn't see the color of her couch anymore with all the stuff the hero had thrown on it.
At some point, Nia and Brainy had joined them, bringing a couple of bottles to celebrate "an event I didn't think I would get to see before having grey hair, considering the pace you were going!" Nia had said.
The evening had continued full of laughers, memories of moments the couple had been completely oblivious to one another, and potstickers of course.
When everyone had left it was finally time to go to bed, the super had become strangely agitated. Lena had brushed it off as all the emotions of the day and finally living with her.
It will all settle once we lay down and get some rest, she had thought.
She had been proven wrong. Kara had spent the night turning and tossing, unable to find sleep. Lena had tried to soothe her by pressing her front to her back, gently holding the blonde in her arms. But when Lena had woken up some hours later, Kara wasn't in bed anymore.
"Darling?" Lena gently called as she padded in the living room, barefoot and eyes still full of sleep.
Kara was on the couch, huddled against an arm rest and looking at her laptop without really seeing it.
Lena closed the distance between them before sitting next to her girlfriend. Sensing that she wasn't in the right headspace to explain what was going on, she simply decided to just lean against Kara, anchoring her in the present. Together.
After some time, the sun had started to rise.
Lena had slipped in a state between sleep and alert, still here but not fully conscious of how long they had stood there together. At some point Kara had closed her laptop, setting it aside on the coffee table, and she had pulled Lena on top of her, holding her close. The weight and warmth of her girlfriend must have calmed her nerves somewhat because Lena felt the stiff muscles finally relax under herself.
Lena was about to suggest they move to the kitchen to have a well deserved breakfast when Kara had softly said "It was so dark, you know. I just… it brought up some memories. I'm sorry."
Lena hadn't prayed any further. Kara had every right to keep some things secret, and she knew she would learn about it eventually, when the hero would be ready to face this.
After that, Kara had always left a small source of light in their bedroom. At the end of the first month living together, she even bought some star stickers that she put on their ceiling as well as on some furniture. Lena had raised an eyebrow at that, but Kara had brushed it off, saying something about how it remembered her of her apartment and that she thought it comforting to share this with Lena.
Showing the Luthor a part of the Super that very few select people had ever witnessed.
But now, after her talk with Alex, Lena knows that it comes from a different place.
From what Alex told her, on earth Kara had never liked total obscurity. Elyza and Jeremiah had tried to help her of course. They offered the teenage girl therapy, sophrology and many alternatives to help her conquer her fear. But nothing had worked.
Every night Kara would wake up drenched in cold sweat, her breath coming up in short pants, convinced she was back in the phantom zone. Those nights, Alex would begrudgingly get up and walk to this new sister she didn't ask for bed, and lay down with her. She would take Kara in her arms, because that was the only thing that would ground her in the present.
Until one night, when Alex slept over to a friend.

Hold It Together (As we fall apart) - Chapter 2.
So I’m ignoring Crisis for the moment in this fic. Might include it later but also...might not. We’ll see. Hope you guys enjoy this!
Alex wasn’t surprised when she walked into the DEO to find Kara pacing back and forth in front of the screens. Brainy was sitting nearby, watching Kara with a vaguely mystified expression. Upon seeing Alex, Kara stopped pacing and walked briskly forward, her cape flowing behind her. “Where is she?” Alex sighed softly at Kara’s worried expression. “She’s still at L-Corp. She’s fine, I had someone check her o-” “You left her alone?!” Kara exclaimed, her eyes wide. “She was just attacked. Do we even know who attacked her yet? Or why they attacked her? How could you just leave her there alone, Alex?”
“I left her there alone because she doesn’t want anything to do with us.” Alexa regretted her words as soon as they left her mouth. “I’m sorry.” “I need to go.” Kara moved to walk past Alex only for her sister to step in her way, gripping her arms. “Supergirl, stop,” Alex said strictly, her eyes narrowing at Kara. “Not yet. She’s not ready to hear what you have to say. Just give her some time, okay? Take a step back and calm down.” Kara bit the inside of her cheek, willing her eyes not to cloud with tears again. “Someone needs to protect her.” “I have agents stationed outside of L-Corp. Nothing’s going to happen to her.” Alex replied calmly. “She’s my friend too. I’m not going to let anything happen to her even if she’s being…” She paused, seeing Kara frown at her. “Go home and get some rest. Take a few days away from all of this to clear your head.” “What? I don’t need time, I’m fine!” Kara shook her head emphatically. “Alex, I’m fine. I just need to get back to work...here and at CatCo.” Alex glanced around to make sure nobody was listening before she stepped closer to Kara. “You’re not okay, Kara. We both know that.” Her brow still furrowed, Kara tugged herself free of Alex’s light grip and turned, walking away. “Supergirl!” “I’m not going to see Lena,” Kara called over her shoulder, a sharp edge to her voice. She wasn’t sure why she was angry with Alex. Maybe she wasn’t, maybe she was just angry with herself. Angry that because of her mistake she couldn’t even go to Lena to protect her anymore. “That did not seem to go well.” Brainy commented in concern. Alex flinched at his voice, turning her head quickly toward the left. She let out a breath, relieved that it was only him. “You don’t say.” She muttered before she walked away, her chest tight with emotion. She didn’t want to hurt Kara by being so blunt with her but she didn’t want her sister putting herself in harm’s way because of the guilt she felt either. She knew that where Lena was concerned, Kara had a tendency to dive in first and ask questions later. ------ Lena gritted her teeth as she stared hard at that damned watch, sitting on the coffee table in front of her couch. The hand clutching her glass of chardonnay trembled subtly, causing the wine to splash against the sides of the glass. She put it down to anger as well as nerves from what had happened that morning. She hated having to look at that watch every day. It was if it were mocking her. There would always be some piece of Supergirl in her life, no matter how hard Lena tried to purge herself of the woman who’d built her up and so effortlessly torn her back down. She set the glass of wine down on her coffee table and snatched the watch up. Getting to her feet she turned and drew her arm back, intending to throw the wretched thing out of the window only to pause at the last second. Hesitating for a moment, she pressed her thumb firmly down on the button and awaited Supergirl’s arrival. She had to admit, she didn’t know whether the woman would actually show up or not. As the seconds ticked by it seemed to become less and less likely. Finally, just as she was about to give up, she jumped in alarm at a sudden crash from her balcony. She hastened over, partially to check what the noise was and partially because she was sure she’d left her balcony door ajar. She reached the door just in time to see Supergirl pulling herself shakily to her feet. “You came,” Lena said, surprised that Kara had even shown up. “You...crashed?” Kara grimaced as she dusted herself off. “Maybe.” Lena was silent as she looked Kara over, taking note of how unsteady she seemed to be on her feet. She noticed that Kara’s cheeks were flushed and her eyes were slightly glazed over. “Are you drunk?!” Kara smiled sheepishly, rubbing the back of her neck. “I might be a-a bish...ah, a bit.” Lena stared long and hard at Kara who was clearly trying not to laugh at her own mistake, before she scoffed in disbelief and whirled around, storming back into her living room. “Unbelievable!” “Sorry.” Kara followed Lena hesitantly inside. “You called for me.” “I didn’t expect you to turn up here drunk!” Lena whirled around to face Kara, anger clear on her face. “Why would you even FLY drunk?!” “You...called me,” Kara said, tilting her head slightly in confusion. “STOP looking at me like that!” Lena snapped in annoyance. She lifted a hand, covering her eyes and sighed loudly in annoyance. Silence followed and after a long moment, Lena lowered her hand to see Kara biting her lip as she tried pointedly not to look at her. “Here. I called you to give back your watch. I don’t need it.” Wide-eyed, Kara looked back at Lena. “I don’t want it back.” “Well, I don’t want it either.”  Lena moved forward, pressing the watch against Kara’s chest. “Take it.” Kara frowned. “No.” “Take it, I’m not going to use it!” “I don’t want it back.” “Supergirl!” Lena pushed harder, trying to make Kara take the watch. “Stop calling me that!” Kara’s voice rose for the first time and Lena paused in surprise. She blinked, seeing tears lacing Kara’s eyes. “It’s Kara. I’m still Kara.” She scrambled for her glasses and put them on. Lena watched as the suit disappeared in front of her eyes, leaving Kara standing in front of her in her usual attire. Lena let her hand drop down to her side. “Fine. I’ll keep it. But I’m not going to use it. Just get out.” “Lena.” Kara reached out and grabbed Lena’s arm. She pulled her firmly forward, maybe a bit too hard as Lena stumbled into Kara’s chest, her hands instinctively gripping the Kryptonian’s shoulders. “What can I do to make it better? Just tell me. Please.” Lena was caught off guard, both by the sheer desperation in Kara’s voice and by how close they suddenly were. She could smell alcohol on Kara’s breath, feel the beating of her heart through the soft sweater Kara was wearing. She swallowed hard, her own heart racing. “Do you want to hit me?” Kara offered breathily. “I’m okay with that. I-I can...I’ll let you.” Lena’s stomach twisted uncomfortably. She remembered the simulations she’d created where she did just that but none of them had made her feel better. What’s worse, Kara hadn’t looked at her like she was now. “You’re drunk, Su…” She paused just short of saying Supergirl again. “You’re drunk. How does a Kryptonian even get drunk?” Kara’s grip tightened slightly as Lena made a feeble attempt to pull away. “It’s...complisac...complicated.” Lena observed Kara for a long moment before she made up her mind. Now that Kara was there and drunk at that, Lena figured she may as well make use of the time. She was using Kara, she told herself. Taking advantage just like Kara had with her. With Kara’s inhibitions mostly melted away, Lena was sure she could get some honesty out of the woman. “You’re going to have to sober up before you leave,” Lena said after a moment, painfully aware that Kara was still holding onto her. She was still holding onto Kara for that matter. She had yet to let go of her shoulders. “I can’t have you killing someone, can I?” Kara nodded somberly, her heart leaping in her chest at the thought of getting to spend time with Lena. “So should I…?” Lena rolled her eyes. “You can start by letting go of me. Then sit down. I’ll bring you some coffee.” Kara reluctantly let her arms drop from around Lena and let her move back. She watched Lena turn and walk away from her and when the CEO disappeared she walked toward the couch, sinking down into the soft upholstery. She bit her lip, thinking about all of the times she’d sat on that exact couch with Lena. When they were friends. Hearing footsteps, she looked up, blinking when she saw Lena walking back into the room with a mug cradled in her hands. “Here.” Lena handed the warm cup to Kara and sat down, further away than she usually would, crossing her legs. “Thank you,” Kara mumbled, looking down into the dark liquid. “How much of this are you going to remember tomorrow?” Lena asked thoughtfully. She hastened to explain herself when Kara looked at her. “I don’t want you to get the wrong idea. This doesn’t make us friends.” Kara shrugged in response to Lena’s original question. “Alcohol usually doesn’t infect my memories.” “Affect.” Lena corrected automatically, her voice soft. Kara bit the inside of her cheek, agreeing with a tiny nod of her head. “Well, I suppose it doesn’t matter now,” Lena said quietly, her eyes still fixed on Kara. She wasn’t sure whether it helped or not that Kara looked like Kara instead of Supergirl. She was starting to think that in some ways it was making it worse. “Let’s play a game, shall we?” Kara’s brow furrowed in confusion. That was the last thing she’d expected to come out of Lena’s mouth. “A game?” “Yes.” Lena nodded in response. “I’ll make a statement and you can tell me whether it was the truth or a lie.” Kara sighed softly. She wasn’t sure she liked where this game was going. Still, she gave a hesitant nod. At least Lena was speaking to her. She took a quick sip of her coffee before she set her cup aside. “Okay.” Lena turned slightly to face Kara, trying not to let her hands tremble. She wasn’t even sure she wanted to know the answers to the questions she was about to ask. “You trusted me.” “One hundred percent.” Kara nodded emphatically. “You still trusted your other friends more than me.” “Our other friends.” Kara corrected with a frown. “Wrong. I trust you with my life. You’ve saved my life on countless-” “You don’t trust me with kryptonite.” Lena interrupted, speaking through gritted teeth. “Which is why you asked James to break into my vault. You thought I would use it against you.” Kara was silent for a moment before she shook her head. “I don’t trust anyone with kryptonite. Not even Alex. If it fell into the wrong hands it could be used against me or Kal.” “You only told me because you knew I would find out.” “No!” “You used me.” “N-No. I would never-” “You wanted to tell me.” “All of the time!” “I’m your best friend.” “Of course.” “You care about me.” “I love you!” Kara burst out. “Of course I care about you. More than you know, I’m just...I was an idiot. I was a coward and I didn’t want to put you in danger by telling you. I didn’t want to hurt you by telling you I’d been lying to you for so long. I wanted to put it off for as long as possible because I was selfish and I didn’t want to lose you!” Lena stared long and hard at Kara. “You love me. Because I’m your best friend.” Kara’s heart leaped with hope at the thought that she might be getting through to Lena. She reached forward, taking her hand and felt a wave of relief when she wasn’t pushed away. “I love you completely.” Lena swallowed hard against the lump in her throat. “What does that even mean?” Kara wasn’t sure how to answer that herself. All she knew was that it was true. “Lena, I’m sorry. If I can do something to make this better just tell me and I’ll do it. I’ll do anything.” “Anything?” Kara nodded without hesitation. She knew that Lena would never ask her to do anything morally wrong. “Whatever you want me to do, I’ll do it.” Lena lifted her hand, lightly touching Kara’s cheek. “Sometimes I think...how could I be such an idiot to be taken in by this? A change of clothes and no glasses...it’s ridiculous.” She felt her breath hitch as Kara’s eyes closed and the Kryptonian leaned into her touch. She had to remind herself that Kara was drunk. That she was reading too much into what was happening. “But you don’t look like Supergirl like this. You just look like Kara. Like my Kara.” Kara’s lower lip trembled. “I am. Lena, you have to…” her eyes flew open as Lena’s fingers drifted to her lips and she was silenced with a single finger pressed to them. She could only watch, trembling with anticipation as Lena’s eyes drifted over her face. Finally, Lena’s fingers slipped away from her lips, followed by her hands leaving Kara’s face completely, coming to rest instead on her shoulders. Kara still couldn’t speak, fascinated by whatever Lena was doing. She felt hands gently move down her shoulders and arms to her biceps, pausing there for a moment. “The girl of steel.” Lena murmured to herself thoughtfully, her eyes resting on Kara’s arms. “I wouldn’t have imagined you could lift a building.” Kara nervously licked her lips. “I’m stronger than I look.” “Looks can be deceiving, I suppose.” Lena’s eyes grew dark again and she drew her hands away, letting them fall into her lap instead. “You’re a lot of things you don’t seem to be.” Kara clenched her hands into fists, suddenly feeling chillingly sober. “Can I ask you a question?” Lena scoffed slightly at the audacity of the suggestion but nodded for Kara to go ahead. “Are you ever going to be able to forgive me?” Lena frowned at the question. “I don’t know.” Kara blinked quickly, taking a deep breath. “Do you still care about me?” Lena shook her head slowly, her hair falling into her face as she bowed her head. “O-Oh.” Kara had feared that Lena’s response would be what it had been but she’d underestimated how much it would. “You idiot.” “What?” “I said you’re an idiot!” Lena’s words were suddenly loud and choked with emotion. “Do you think I would be this angry with you if I didn’t care?! I was i...I cared about you more than I’ve ever cared about anyone else. I love you. And I hate you.” Kara shuffled forward slightly, her hand coming to rest on Lena’s knee. “Lena…” Lena sniffled softly and brushed away her tears. “You should leave. You seem sober enough now.” Kara wanted to argue, she wanted to stay, but she nodded silently in response and slowly stood up. “Yeah. I’ll see you...um...call me if you need me. Please.” Lena didn’t answer, choosing to stare at the floor instead. Kara lingered for a moment, wanting nothing more than to hug the brunette as tightly as a human could endure. Instead, she took a deep breath and headed for the balcony. ---- “Where have you been?!” Kara faltered as she entered her apartment to find Nia waiting for her, sitting at the table. “Nia? What are you doing here?” “Movie night, remember?” Nia frowned, getting to her feet as Kara walked further into the apartment. “We were drinking, talking…? Do you remember?” “Oh, right.” Kara looked toward the crumpled blankets on the couch in the living room. “Sorry. I guess I ruined our night, huh?” Nia exhaled loudly. “I’m not angry, I was just worried about you. You said you can’t usually get drunk unless you drink that...stuff you had and then you just took off without saying anything!” Kara grimaced, rubbing the back of her neck. “Sorry, I...had to take a call.” She slipped off her shoes and walked to the couch, sinking down onto it with a weary sigh. The walk home had done nothing to calm her nerves. “Was I gone long?” “About an hour.” Nia moved to sit down next to Kara, tucking her legs underneath herself on the couch. She let her elbow rest on the back of the couch, her cheek coming to rest on her hand. “Lena?” Kara looked at Nia in surprise. “How did you know?” “I may have called Brainy,” Nia replied with a small smile. “He mentioned that there was a 99.2496 percent chance that you’d rushed off to see Lena.” “That high?” Kara mused softly as she pulled the blankets over her legs. Nia bit her lip, doing her best not to tell Kara that she was becoming somewhat predictable. “So what happened? Why did she call you?” “I crashed on her balcony.” Kara groaned at the thought of how clumsy she’d been. She almost wished the alcohol hadn’t worn off so quickly so she wouldn’t have to think about what a fool she’d made of herself until the next day. Like a normal person. “She tried to make me take the watch back and I offered to let her hit me if it would make her feel better.” “Kara.” Nia’s voice somehow conveyed concern and disapproval. “I know, I know. It’s messed up and Alex would be pissed if she heard me talking like that.” Kara ran a hand through her hair. “I’m not thinking straight. I just want to be able to do something to fix this, I want to…” She paused as Nia frowned. “And now I realize that all I’ve talked about since you got here is Lena. Rao, I’m a horrible friend.” “No, you’re not. Trust me, I’m the only person in this room who’s qualified to say what kind of friend you are. But this needs to stop. You can’t keep blaming yourself for what happened. You’ve been punished enough already.” Nia lightly patted Kara’s forearm. “Tell me what else happened. Without beating yourself up this time.” Kara managed a slight smile at that. “She asked me questions about our friendship. If I trusted her, why I didn’t want her to have kryptonite. If I even cared about her…” Her brow furrowed at that as she recalled her answer. How easy it was to tell Lena that she loved her. “She told me that she hates me. I deserved it, I suppose. I asked. She said she…” She hesitated, biting the inside of her cheek. Nia hummed quizzically. “That she cares about me too.” Kara finally finished, still lost in her own thoughts. “She did something else too but...I’m not sure what to think about it. It was like she was inspecting me.” “As the alien of the two of you, isn’t ‘inspecting’ your job?” Kara couldn’t help but laugh at the comment, surprising even herself. “I mean she wanted to figure out how she didn’t know I was Supergirl.” “Okay. And…?” Kara closed her eyes, recalling the way Lena’s hands had run gently down her shoulders, the brush of Lena’s fingers against her lips. She remembered fighting the urge to lean in and kiss Lena until the hurt went away. “Nia?” “Yeah?” “I think…” Kara swallowed hard, turning her head to look at Nia. “I think I’m in love with Lena Luthor.” TBC

Lena isn't hypocritical if she gets mad at Kara.
Ok, so I'm still seeing some people saying that Lena is hypocritical to be mad at Kara because she was keeping secrets from her. The main one being the Harun El and giving humans superpowers.
Again, I don't think we're watching the same show, or if we are these folk really arent paying attention.
Lena told EVERYONE at Thanksgiving her hypothetical theory of giving people super powers and was immediately shot down. Now Lena doesn't need to stop doing something just because her friends only gave the idea 60 seconds of thought. The Superfriends aren't Lena's board, or her bosses. So why would she bother to tell them she was going ahead with her research when she knows they already disapprove? That would just be pointless.
Now cast your minds back, Lena TOLD James what she was doing. James APPROVED and praised her for it. His dubious look while she was sleeping was for him and him alone. He never told Lena he had reservations. The only issue James had with her research was her partnering with the government, not the idea itself. (Plus someone seemed pretty happy to keep those powers, or am I the only one who saw James enjoying training at the Fortress?)
Alex, Alex wasnt a fan of the idea, but then she was mind wiped and no longer had a personal connection to Supergirl. When Alex was working with Lena at the DEO she looked through that microscope and realized what Lena was doing. "So that conversation at Thanksgiving wasn't hypothetical?" She wasn't against the idea at all, the only concern Alex had was that it could put Lena in danger. Then you know what she did? She worked every day with Lena on it. She even told James when she visited Cat Co to see Kara that she was working with Lena. James acted butt hurt at the mere mention of his ex but he didn't protest what they were doing even though he already knew.
Brainy, he wasn't all that interested at Thanksgiving if I remember correctly. But Brainy was at the DEO and he worked work Lena and Alex on the Harun El without any protest. Brainy knowing full well what Lena was doing, what Alex was helping with and yet still devoted to being Lena's friend. To be honest Brainy seems to understand Lena better than anyone including Kara.
So Kara didn't know? Now here's the thing, Kara was there when Lena suggested it and didn't like the idea. Now remember Kara to Lena is just a civilian reporter, one that again already said she didn't want to give this idea the time of day. Lena may be best friends with Kara but there is a line that Lena won't cross when it comes to her research or business dealings. Why would she tell her civilian (reporter) best friend her secret work with the DEO? She wouldn't of course, technically there should be a bloody clause in the government contract to prevent that. "No telling Media acting CEO's or reporters". I mean that's just common sense. Lena didn't give Kara all the info when she was working with Rhea, even when Kara asked. She didn't even tell Kara about her work on the Lexo suit, because why would she tell Kara the reporter EVERYTHING she does?
Alex didn't tell Kara either, because just like Lena she believes her sister is just a civilian reporter. Alex the super secret DEO Director isn't going to go home and have sister night with Kara and tell her all the governments secrets. ( She would of it she knew she was Supergirl, but she's in the same oblivious boat that Lena's in). Alex may not know who Kara is, but it doesn't change her morals. It just meant she was finally free to see another picture without Supergirl blinders on.
You know who else didn't tell Kara? James didn't. Not one word. Actually kudos to him for not betraying Lena (again!)
You know who else didn't tell Kara? Brainy didn't either.
Kara only found out that Lena had been working with Harun El and manufacturing Super powers when she, Lena and Alex searched Eve's lab and found a chunk of it in a safe. Kara wasn't happy, but you know who defended Lena? Alex did!
Lena didn't tell Kara (or anyone) that she was working with Lex to save his life? I've already addr this in a previous post, but to summarize Lena doesn't have to tell her civilian REPORTER best friend everything she does. She already knows (or thinks she does) what people would say. But remember Lena was as far as she knew working legally with Lex. We all thought that to, until we found out he had the prison under his control. But still Lena didn't have to tell Kara any of this.
So yeah, Kara lying and decieving Lena about WHO she really is, letting her believe she's in danger, letting her freak out when she thinks she could have died, being a jackass ass to her as Supergirl then besties with her as Kara, manipulating Lena's boyfriend into breaking and entering and violating her privacy? Shall I go on? None of that is the same as Lena not telling civilian everything that's going on her in her life.
Lena keeps secrets because Kara as far as she is aware isn't effected by them. Kara keeps secrets and lies to Lena every 5 minutes. Lena has never betrayed Kara's friendship, Kara betrays it all the time. Lena has never taken Kara for a mug, Kara does all the time. Lena never went to Mon El as asked him to betray Kara, Kara did this with James.
People say that Lena is responsible for most of her own (or any) of the shows problems? Well you know who else to could have prevented many of the problems? Kara could have if she had trusted her best friend.
Even Lena would have questioned Kara's sanity if she had revealed herself immediately. But by season 3 Lena has ready saved the world and was Supergirls ally and Kara's supposed best friend. The whole Kryptonite issue could have been avoided completely if Kara has been honest, she course have just talked to Lena, Lena would also have known she could trust the DEO to help Sam.
Honestly I'm just bored of Kara's lies, deciet and manipulations getting a free pass because she's the certified hero and Lena who doesn't share everything she does with a civilian being condemned as the liar and responsible for every bad thing that happens. No one condemned Alex, Brainy or James for not keeping Kara on the loop, why? Is it because they are the 'heroes' and Lena who only ever tries to help people and has saved the world A LOT is automatically seen as the one who will go bad? Note that Kara would be dead a good few times over and couldn't have saved the day without Lena. The finale is being a prime example, Kara, Alex, Jonn, Brainy, Nia, James? The didn't make that space suit, they didn't make anti Kryptonite shields for Kara. (Winn did once). Lena also isnt the only one to make mistakes. But she's the only one condemned for them. Remember when Alex and Jonn just 'trusted' Jeramiah? Oh and he stole the alien register? Yeah no one was condemning them, it was just an 'accident'.

Something In The Air
(( Since it’s ‘Love is in the Air’ I wanted to do a story for Malura. There is a bit of a hint to some future stories for her in this))
Fuck.
When I wake up on Darsa’s couch in Deephaven I groan and roll off to the ground as I try to get my bearings. I’ve been bouncing from time way to time way just to avoid days like today. Days where the world is quiet and everyone is deep in their own romantic traditions. I’ve come to really hate Love Is In The Air. As a kid, I would make cards and give them to my friends. Darsa used to eat that shit up. He still does.
Even as I move through what should be Darsa’s private quarters I can hear him cursing from the kitchen. The smell of cherries and bread is overwhelming and I don’t want to see what he’s making Kat. They’re cute, like, I haven’t seen him this happy in years. But I’m a little salty and I’d just ruin whatever day he has planned.
“Oi, Dar, going to Stormwind. Need anything?” I called not even going into the kitchen he’s built over the summer.
He curses a little then laughs. “Na Shadow got all I need here. Can I ask if ya see your Ma or something tonight?”
Yup, called it. He’s going to do something cute for Kat. I have to humor him, after the shit he’s dealt with he’s needed a woman who inspires this side of him. Inspires and likes this side of him. “I’ll get myself a place to sleep. Maybe I’ll head to Tanaris and hang out with the dragons.”
Tumblr media
He poked his head out from the kitchen and gave me a worried look. His normal black clothing was speckled with white flour. Years ago I think he would have laughed if he knew this was how he was going to look. All ruggedly noble with enough money to bake when he felt like it. “Do something good for yourself. Okay?”
I nodded, only because that’s what he wants me to do. “After the holiday is over I’ll buy a wheelbarrow of chocolate.” But I raise my hand and connect to the sands of time. I’ve gotten so used to this. Just slipping away. Letting myself become one with time and losing my touch on what would be my current time. Years of constant work has lead me to the conclusion that there is no such thing as ‘current time’, but I will define it better as the time that my friends and family live in.
As I return to the world I appear in the park in Stormwind. Couples are already holding hands, snuggling on benches. Something cold stabs my heart and I start to walk to my favorite coffee shop. I used to drink, but alcohol became a crutch that I had to kick at one point. At the point I was going through a bottle of scotch a night just to deal with myself, it was time to cut back.
The coffee shop is nice, that sort of hole in the wall place that gets packed at night when all the artists come out so they can sip on coffee and talk about struggles. This early in the morning it’s basically empty, and I like that. It’s fewer people I have to pretend around.
“Hey, Mark.” I said sitting down at a barstool and wave the barista down. He’s a cute guy, tall, lean, has stunning eyes that he flashes in everyone's direction so we feel special. He would have been my type when I was a kid. These days I’ve learned that I need someone else. Someone who doesn’t exist. “Can I get-”
Tumblr media
But a large mug is put down in front of me. “Double shot of espresso latte. It’s already been paid for.”
“You didn’t have to do that.” I pick up the mug smelling the roasted beans and frothed up milk.
Mark shook his dark head. “Oh no, I didn’t pay for it. That guy did.” He pointed, and as I followed his finger it found nothing but air. When he looked he dropped his hand. “The hell. I swore he was just here.”
Something different grabbed my heart. I only know one person who slipped in and out of time to leave me things. My hands grip my scolding hot mug, not caring if I burn my fingers. “What did he look like. Tan? Bright blue eyes? Strange accent?”
The barista was still confused but shook his head. “Nah, nothing like that.”
Thank the gods... I don’t know what I would do if it had been him. Swallowing down a near panic attack I nodded and took a long drink from my coffee. I needed it to wake up, to make me think more. Maybe some random guy bought me a drink. It’s not the first time. Just normally that drink would be alcoholic and would be a way to get into my pants. It seems this time it’s not.
As I drink my coffee I pulled out the current romance novel. At least a romance novel isn’t going to treat me like shit. If I don’t like it, I don’t have to finish it. It really lets me have the reigns of the fantasy relationship. My current book was about a woman who falls in love with a San’layn. I’ve got half a mind to write the author and tell them if they need a sensitivity reader for her next book to call me. Cause she knew nothing about the undead bastards and I’m more laughing my way through this book than thinking about my ex... One of my exes. I really have shit taste in men.
I’m getting near the end of the book. The girl has to choose between the monster hunter of the San’layn, both guys are sexy idiots and I’m invested enough because the San’layn isn’t a total monster. I’m getting to the good part, the epic showdown when I smell it. The shop is still empty, but the scent crosses my nose. It smells like something warm with a spice I don’t know. Looking up and around again I swore I felt someone pass me, but Mark shuffles past with some napkins he’s going to fold.
Tumblr media
It’s probably my imagination, or some of the coffee mixing together. I push it out of my mind and finish the book. Low and behold the girl chose the San’Layn and the monster hunter ended up with the girl’s best friend. I never said this was a good romance novel. Trashy romance novels have the merit of keeping me distracted for a few hours, and that’s good enough for me.
I pay a tip for Mark and head back to the streets of Stormwind. Darsa is right, I should get myself something for today. If I can’t get a boyfriend I could at least get a new romance novel to read for the night. The best part of the romance novel is the guy can get me all hot and bothered, but I won’t have to sneak out of his bed at six am.
The bookstore I frequent wasn’t far from the coffee shop. They specialize in more used books, and that sounds pretty good to me. Get a bunch of romance novels for cheap so the poor store can get more on their shelves.
As soon as I enter I smell the perfume of old books. It instantly relaxes me. I’m not one of those brainy mages who obsess over textbooks. But give me something to read to enjoy myself and I am all over it. Give me rows upon rows of stories that someone has made up and I’m a happy girl.
I make a b-line to the romance section to find it’s still jam-packed with books. People love donating romance novels, buying them is another story. No one wants to be in public with these things. I call bull shit on that, but I also don’t care what people think of me anymore. I want a book with a sexy half-naked guy, that is what I’m going to get!
Tumblr media
Going through the books I try to find something that will be different but also give me the kind of night I want. I want something with adventure, that a guy and girl bond over something not just fall in love.
That smell crosses my mind again. That heat and spice. I stop again looking around. It wasn’t the coffee. But I don’t see anyone. When I look back to the shelf I see a book is slightly sticking out. It’s a book of a man who is only being covered by a bunch of silk at his groin. He’s laying back on a bunch of pillows with a more dressed woman leaning over him, her breasts barely being contained by her dress. The title catches me instantly ‘The Heart of Time’.
Flipping to the back I scan to read it’s a time traveler love story. I’m a time walker, I can appreciate a romance between a time traveler and normie. Sold.
When I go to pay the woman at the counter smiles at me and winks at my book choice. When she opens the book she lets out a small sound. “Hey this has some store credit.”
Blinking I looked at the slip of paper and at the price she had run my book up at. It was equally priced. My heart skipped a moment and something warm pooled in my stomach. That’s the second time today something I would normally get was paid for me.
“Looks like you’re in for a free book.” She handed it over to me taking the slip of paper so she could write down the store credit. “Have a great day!”
I mutter a reply and leave, but now I start looking around. Was it just a coincidence that both my coffee was paid by someone who vanished, and I ended up picking a book that had store credit inside? Looking around the street I don’t see anyone looking at me. But I’m a Timewalker. If you’re smart you will be invisible or hiding just outside of time.
I want to reach out, to see if I can sense someone, but who would try to do nice things for me? Maybe just one of my fellow Timewalkers? Sometimes we do stuff like this, little things to brighten each other’s days since we are so removed from people sometimes. Maybe that’s it. Someone is trying to be nice and give me a good day.
It’s better than thinking someone was stalking me.
Opening my book I start to read and walk back to the park. The book catches me quickly since the main female character is actually the time traveler. She’s used to letting time slip her by and has pushed away from the idea of romance... okay, that’s a little too close for home. But the guy she meets is an honest fellow who finds out she’s a time traveler and accepts her as she is.
I don’t even notice I’ve sat back down. It’s only when that scent comes back that I whip my head up and look around the park. No one is here. It’s just me. Me and anyone in hiding.
I’m a ballsy woman so I put the book down for a moment and start talking. “Okay, thanks for the coffee and the book. Are you going to come out and tell me who you are? Or am I going to have to hit the Caverns of Time to find out who you are?”
The smell is still here and I feel something warm beside me for a second before it’s gone. Reaching out through the sands of time I try to see who is sitting beside me. But I don’t know them. I can’t find anyone’s course through time that matches to the times I’ve felt someone close today. It doesn’t mean they aren’t there, it just means I haven’t met them yet.
My heart hurts for a moment. I want to ignore this. Tell myself it’s just my imagination. But every time that scent comes up I know someone is there. Someone who can’t talk to me but is here for me. Being a Timewalker that could mean anything, but picking up my book I shiver, the realization coming to me. Someone in my future knows today was going to be shit, so they’re giving me a good day.
I smile a little, but I can’t think of this as a romantic gesture. It’s just kind. “Thank you.” I swallow a bit then let out a sigh. “I won’t go hunting you down... I’m just, paranoid.”
Tumblr media
Resting my hand down on the bench it touches something soft. There, like it had been forgotten by someone with a larger bouquet of flowers was a single red rose in full bloom. The most curious thing about it was all the thorns were gone. Uncle Archi demanded I learn the flower language along with my alchemy. A red rose means ‘love and respect’, but one without thorns means ‘love at first sight’, and a rose in full bloom means ‘I still love you’.
My vision blurs as som tears well up. pulling the flower I wonder if it’s been forgotten or if this was part of this strange day I’m having? The scent crosses my awareness again and I lower my head. I don’t want to fall in love again. I don’t think I can handle the breakup again. But there is a hope in me, one that no matter how stupid it would be, it hopes that this means something. That I won’t be alone forever.
Touching the rose I bring it up to my hair and tuck it in with one of my braids. My eyes are closed and I don’t search for who is doing this. Like with time, I need to accept things happen and I don’t need to control it. Let the chaos move, and I can stand at its eye. If there is someone who cares about me, let them. At least it means this shit day will be better because of them.
Once more I mutter out, to the person who I’ve never met, to the person sitting outside of time as they watch over me today. I mean what I’m going to say and I hope they know what it means to me. “Thank you, days like this can be absolute shit and, it means a lot to know someone has my back. When we finally meet, I hope you know I’m going to owe you a coffee and a trip to the bookstore.”
When I open my eyes I see something for a flash, as someone vanishes from my time to somewhere else. I don’t get any idea of what they looked like, but as they vanish, so does their scent.

Kara had been putting on a brave face all afternoon. Alex figured it would have been a little more obvious to everyone had it not been for the fact that they all were.
Each of them had been affected by the Phantom’s fear visions to some degree, but in typical Super Friends fashion, they’d found the remedy to those fears in each other’s company.
It almost felt too normal, gathering at Kara’s apartment, playing board games, eating and drinking, laughing and pretending that the last few weeks had been nothing but a bad dream.
Nothing was that easy, though, no matter how hard they tried. After all, it didn’t escape Alex that Lena had more than overindulged in her fair share of scotch since her arrival, or that Nia had practically remained glued to Brainy’s side the whole afternoon, fiddling with the life projectors beneath his shirt as they lay curled against each other on the couch. Brainy held her just as tightly in return, as though he was afraid to let her go. It was clear he was way more on edge than normal, hyper-aware of his surroundings, startling at just about any loud noise. So much so that the pop from the champagne cork earlier that day had very nearly sent him reeling right out of the room. After that, Alex had put the group on a strict twist off cap rule for any future bottles that were to be opened in Brainy’s presence.
Alex knew that Kelly had seen something awful there as well, but her girlfriend had been doing everything to keep the morale of the team boosted, instead assuring her that she was working through it on her own terms, and that she wanted Alex to feel comfortable talking to her about her own nightmare as well.
As much as Alex wanted to take Kelly up on that offer - right now - sitting there with her friends, drink in hand and her sister’s head resting on her shoulder… this was how she was getting by. She didn’t need to talk it out, at least not in that moment. Being in the presence of her family, feeling the soft fibres of Kara’s cardigan between her fingers, this was more than enough to keep her fears at bay.
But, she knew that Kara was struggling.
Despite the strength Kara was trying desperately to maintain, Alex could see the strain behind every smile. Even now she was home safe, decked in sweats and curled up under her favourite blanket, it didn’t take from the fact that whatever she’d seen in the Phantom Zone still lived within her. Providing all the comforts in the world wasn’t going to change that.
Still, having a chance to focus on family, junk food and stupid card games was at least beginning to alleviate some of the tension in the room. By the time day rolled into night, the laughter they shared together felt that much more genuine, and Alex was even able to goad Kara into a very competitive, high-stakes game of Trivial Pursuit.
Brainy and Nia won, not like the room stood much of a chance against a twelfth-level intellect who had also taken the opportunity of studying even more pop-culture references since his stint in 2009. But, with the alcohol running through everyone’s systems, the match had been closer than any one before it.
Eventually though, it was time for the Super Friends to head home for the evening. Well, everyone apart from Alex. She’d been pretty clear from the moment game night had been proposed that there was no way in hell she was leaving her sister alone that night.
If anything, Kara had seemed relieved at the idea. Alex knew she was still processing everything that had happened, but the horrors of that place were still fresh on her mind. Maybe she hadn’t been alone, maybe she had found family along the way, but that didn’t take from the awful things Kara had witnessed, even with her father at her side.
Alex wasn’t sure what to think of Zor-El quite yet. J’onn had given him a place to crash at the Tower while he gathered his bearings on Earth, and she knew he’d likely be contacting Argo very soon with the news of his survival. Kara hadn’t spoken much about her father since getting back, but then again, she’d spoken so little about her time in the Phantom Zone that Alex didn’t think it strange. She was looking to move past this.
They all were.
Just… moving past it wasn’t going to be as easy as they were hoping for. Kelly was already trying to encourage everyone into a group session to talk things out, although the bottle of wine she’d toted had probably made her sound a little too eager about the idea at the time. In any case, Alex hadn’t missed how Kara had shrunk into the sofa at the suggestion, or how quickly she’d diverted the subject before Kelly had a chance to go into any details.
She’d have to talk to someone eventually, and privately Alex hoped that Kara might let her in. Since Brainy and Nia had gone back in time, Alex couldn’t help but fall back to those years when she’d left Kara behind for college, how anchored she’d still felt to her sister’s life even from miles away. There were times she’d blamed Kara for everything in her life that wasn’t perfect, but it didn’t take from the moments, however small, where things had been just that.
Perfect.
The longer Kara had spent in Midvale, the more she’d opened up about her home world. Alex had found the topic all kinds of uncomfortable at first, serving as yet another reminder that she was responsible for this alien tween that had somehow stumbled into their lives, disturbing her otherwise normal existence. But, Kara had been able to fill every one of her stories about Krypton with such wonder. Even when she hadn’t been fully confident with English, she’d still managed to describe her planet with such passion that Alex could even imagine those great glass spires for herself, could see the vast cities that glimmered in the distance from Kara’s old bedroom window.
Kara had never managed to get through one of those stories without crying.
Alex could still remember clambering over to Kara’s bed in the dead of night, bundling her adopted sister in her arms, expecting it to feel so alien, so wrong. But, it hadn’t. If anything, it had been the most natural thing in the world.
She’d whispered to her then, rocking her, telling her oh so gently that everything would be okay.
Kara had believed her every time.
Now, though?
Now, Alex wasn’t so sure.
Once the party disbanded, neither one of them had the energy to say much to each other, but that didn’t matter. Sharing one another’s space was more than enough. Assuring Kara that she wasn’t alone tonight - that was enough. It had to be.
When Kara headed to bed, Alex set about making herself comfortable on the couch, curling beneath the duvet that Kara had left out for her.
She didn’t remember falling asleep, which only made it all the more alarming when she was suddenly jerked awake some hours later.
Alex’s throat was dry, and there was a crick in her neck where she’d been lying awkwardly across the sofa’s arm. She groaned out, raising her hands in a half-assed defensive stance that would have been way more threatening had she actually had a firearm to grab a hold of and not a medium sized throw pillow.
“Alex?”
Kara’s voice, trailing feebly in the dark. Alex blinked, finding her sister’s bright eyes staring at her in the dim setting of the apartment. Even with no visible source of light, they still managed to shimmer, like tiny beams of sunlight had been captured within her irises.
“Hey,” Alex managed, clearing her throat with some effort. She frowned, reaching for her sister’s arm. “Are you okay?”
Kara’s lips trembled into a weak smile. “I couldn’t sleep,” she admitted.
“Figures,” Alex said, noting the state of her sister’s hair. It was tied up into a messy bun that had clearly fallen victim to Kara’s violent tossing and turning habit. Alex forced herself into a half decent sitting position, glancing towards the kitchen. “What d’you think, will tea and honey cut it?” she asked, feigning a dramatized yawn. “Or, do we have to pull out the big guns?”
Kara’s smile widened. “Oh, big guns for sure.”
“Hot cocoa it is.” Alex grinned. “You can boil the water.”
                                                          ---
Ten minutes later, Alex found herself sat on Kara’s bed, legs crossed as she nursed her piping mug of hot cocoa, enhanced with a generous splash of whiskey. Kara did the same, taking a sip before she closed her eyes, leaning her back against the head rest.
“Oh Rao that’s good,” she murmured.
“Y’know, I think I’ve even improved upon mom’s recipe,” Alex mused. “The student becomes the teacher, or whatever.”
“Don’t tell Eliza that, she’ll kill you.”
Alex pulled a face. “God, never. She’ll take that recipe to her grave.”
Kara chuckled, sobering slightly. She pressed her lips together, staring down into her mug. “I missed this,” she murmured. “When I was… trapped there… everything felt so bleak. Like the world was trying to suck the happiness right out of me.” She shuddered, tightening her grip around her mug. “I tried to hold onto happy memories, the taste of my favourite foods, anything that’d keep me grounded. But, the longer I was there, the more I thought I’d never find that happiness again.” She breathed out sharply, forcing a smile. “That I’d never taste hot cocoa again.”
“I can’t imagine what it was like,” Alex said softly. “I mean… we were only there for a few hours and look how badly it affected us. You were there for weeks and I—” Alex choked, shaking her head. “Things got pretty bleak here, too. And, well, let’s just say I didn’t need a Phantom to start losing hope.”
“Alex-”
“It’s not your fault,” Alex said automatically. “So don’t you dare go apologising for this.”
“I- I wasn’t.”
Alex gave her sister a pointed look.
Kara’s face fell. She shifted uncomfortably, drawing her knees up towards her chest. “Okay, maybe… so maybe I was. But- I don’t know what else to say, Alex! I am sorry. Sorry any of this happened. That we lost each other.”
Again.
“We always find our way back,” Alex said firmly, pressing the warmth of her mug against her chin retrospectively. Her lips curled. “That might as well be the Danvers’ sisters motto at this point, right?”
Kara snorted into her own mug. “It’s got a ring to it.”
“We could make t-shirts.”
“Okay, that’s the lamest thing I’ve ever heard.”
“But you kinda love it, right?”
Kara’s nose crinkled when she grinned, one of those classic Kara smiles. So simple, so easy, as though she wasn’t holding the weight of the world on her shoulders at any given moment.
It didn’t last long, but when Kara looked back up at her, Alex thought that a little of the pain behind her eyes had begun to ease.
Then, Kara yawned.
Alex’s smile faded. “Okay, you really need to get some sleep.”
Kara bit her lip, glancing away. “I know. I just…” She blinked with a sudden revelation, turning back to Alex in the same motion. “Would you stay?” she asked impulsively, patting the sheets at her side. “Here, I mean. While I sleep? Like old times?”
“You don’t even have to ask,” Alex said, already scooting over towards the empty space. “Of course I will.”
                                                           ---
The last time Alex had laid in Kara’s bed, she’d been alone.
When the wound had still been fresh, her heart was so heavy that Alex had needed to feel Kara there with her somehow. She’d used the spare key to get inside, curling up beneath her sister’s sheets, still smelling of Kara’s watermelon shampoo, and hugged her pillow close to her chest, burying her face into the soft cotton.
Now, Kara lay at her side, and yet Alex still had to fight to prove to herself that this was real. That Kara was home.
She hadn’t told anyone about what the Phantom had showed her just yet - not even Kelly. To think how terrified she’d been of not being the first face that Kara saw, that somehow her stubbornness might ruin everything, that to get Kara back, she’d have to sacrifice herself, because it was her job as the older sister. Even when she’d faced those fears, when she’d chosen to let herself go to keep Kara safe, it didn’t take from the horrible all-consuming vacuum that had surrounded her. The unforgiving, ice cold chasm of space that had crushed her body the moment she’d been pulled from the ship’s sheild.
But, when Kara had barrelled through that door, Alex had seen her light at the end of the tunnel. When Kara had wrapped her arms around her, nearly forgetting her own strength, squeezing the breath right out from Alex’s lungs, her fears had all but evaporated alongside it. Instead, she’d only hugged her sister tighter in response, whispering nonsensical reassurances into Kara’s ear as she’d crumpled beneath the weight of everything she’d seen, breathing heavily into Alex’s throat.
Now, Alex ran her fingers through her sister’s hair, tugging the elastic out so that she could knot the blonde strands into loose plaits. She’d taught Kara how to braid her hair in a similar fashion when they’d been kids, playing with her hair for hours in front of the mirror, going through every style she could think of in some of her mom’s old magazines. Alex had never been a big fan of dressing up, but Kara had been so excited to learn about Earth fashion and Alex had been seldom to disappoint.
It wasn’t long before Kara relaxed into the gesture, her back curving against Alex’s chest as she sank deep against her pillow, pressing her face into it with a soft exhale.
Alex didn’t know what kind of nightmares Kara had faced the last time she’d fallen asleep, but she vowed that she’d do everything in her power to give her sister the peace of mind she deserved.
When Kara finally began to doze and soft snores escaped her lips, Alex wrapped her arms around her front, burying her face between her sister’s shoulder blades.
She was warm in her arms, solid and real. Alex could feel every rise and fall in Kara’s chest, could hear the steady rhythm of her pulse beating against her forehead.
The girl of steel had always needed to appear unbreakable to everyone, but what people rarely thought about was how that so often extended even to Kara Danvers. After all, it would be Kara Danvers, not Supergirl, who would be turning up at CatCo in the next few days, pretending as though she’d been out getting the scoop of the century.
No one outside of her family knew what she’d been through, and so none of them would offer her the proper time she needed to heal.
And, as much as it hurt, Alex knew that by tomorrow, Kara would already be flying around National City again, reassuring the world that Supergirl was still there for them all.
But, in small moments like this, Kara could at least let her guard down. She didn’t need to be anyone’s saviour right then. She was Kara Danvers, Kara Zor El. And at the heart of it, she was still Alex’s little sister. No matter what happened, nothing would ever change that.
Maybe she couldn’t protect her sister from whatever tomorrow brought with it, but she could make damn sure that not a single nightmare touched her tonight.
That would have to be enough.

I loved your genderbend romione au. The only thing I think would of been funny is if Lavander and Hermes dated and Ronnie was jealous. It just would of been funny to read about the opposite situation of 6th year
Thanks so much! Yeah, I liked that one too!
So here’s an alternate universe set in sixth year- I didn’t see it all the way to the end- but it covers a bit of a Hermes/Lavender situation:
Hermes had always been a fairly confident young man. He had strong hard opinions he would not let waver no matter what anyone thought. He knew he was smarter than most people, and knew his spellwork was always precise and top notch. He was fairly brave, resourceful, and respected.
He was very confident with his skills, but that was a very different thing from being confident all together. He was not very well liked, and it was something that plagued him his whole life. He was the respectful sort of boy who wasn’t rambunctious so mothers and teachers adored him, while fathers shook their head at him and children ignored him.
He had Harry and Ronnie who liked him, and through Ronnie he had tenuous friendships from the Weasleys, and he got on alright with Neville and Luna seemed to think him a friend, despite him not exactly being kind around her barmy opinions. But that was it. Most of the other students didn’t like what a buzzkill he was, that he was always debating them, and he knew no one thought he was good looking.
Well, he had thought that until this year. He’d never had anyone so much as look at him, then all of a sudden he had girls paying him more attention than before. Well, not that many girls, but Lavender in particular was suddenly very prone to sitting near him and smiling at him like he was something to eat. Ronnie didn’t seem to look at him that way. He had hoped maybe this year she’d consider him, but it didn’t look like it would pan out.
He hoped to not be so taken with her this year- but it was hard considering how she seemed to get prettier to him with each passing month. He was obsessed with her long legs, and counting her freckles until her blue eyes would lock with his brown making him blush at being caught staring at her. Her passionate debates, the casual way she would lean across him to grab more food and eat it with the grace of a garden gnome, even the way she swore like a sailor. He was completely smitten with her.
Unfortunately a fair few of the other boys had noticed how pretty she was too. Dean had been staring at her, and that berk McLaggen had flirted with her even when he was saying he’d defeat her in Quidditch. Hermes was no match for all the tall athletic charming boys, who had hair that didn’t turn into an unruly mass if he didn’t regularly get haircuts to keep it under control. He was just an average, tweedy bookworm.
He was counting her freckles again in the library when he heard a voice to his right.
“How are your injuries, doing?” It was Lavender. Looking at him again.
“Injuries?”
“From the Ministry of Magic battle. You were in the hospital a week!”
“Oh those… Yes, they’re quite healed. Thank you,” he said, trying to give her his full attention despite Ronnie giving a stretch that made his heartbeat increase.
“It was quite brave what you all did last year at the Ministry.”
“Well... thank you,” Hermes said, feeling stunned at being praised for something beyond his braininess. “I wouldn’t say it was brave as much as foolhardy. I wish we hadn’t gone, and nothing much good came out of it.”
“The Ministry finally admitted You-Know-Who was back because of it.”
“Yes, I suppose that was a good outcome. Voldemort’s--” Lavender let out a gasp at the name, but Hermes plowed ahead. “Voldemort’s threat being acknowledged is key to us being able to defeat him. But of course it will take more than just that to really get a foothold against him. There needs to be several policy changes.”
Hermes went on a for a long spell about the changes needed, and surprisingly Lavender listened to it all. He hadn’t realized what a nice listener she was.
Ronnie was absolutely infuriating! She was in a snit over him thinking she’d cheated at Quidditch. And it wasn’t his fault! Harry had them ALL convinced it was Felix Felicis helping her save everything, but she was still angry at him and not Harry- as usual. Why was it that she and Harry always got on so keenly, but the moment he said something she jumped down his throat and treated him like some monster. He was just concerned!
And at the party she was being fawned over by all the boys, looking so fit in her quidditch uniform that showed off how pretty she was, and she was so confident and happy with everyone but him. She was flirting! With just about every boy there!
Hermes was moping and feeling generally sorry for himself, and helped himself to some firewhiskey Seamus had smuggled in. He knew he shouldn’t, that he should report it, but he didn’t care- he just wanted to forget the dour looks and hurt from Ronnie. He’d invited her to the Slug Club Christmas Party, and had hoped it would set things on the course he wanted between them- but of course it hadn’t. Nothing between them ever seemed to work out.
“Hermes, are you ok?”
He looked up to see Lavender again. She was looking at him with such sweet concern he felt a smile, the first he’d had in weeks, break across his face.
An hour later he was being kissed, and felt more wanted than he had in a long time- when a great gasp pierced the quiet of the hallway.
He pulled away from Lavender to see Ronnie staring at him with wide eyes.
“Ronnie!” he let out, a bit dazzed from the kissing and firewhiskey.
“S-sorry. I was just looking for...” she trailed off, before turning away from them, red cheeked and teary eyed. In a trice she was running down the hall at a pace he had no chance of meeting.
Hermes hadn’t thought to actually date Lavender. It was just a pleasant kiss. He had hoped to get things back to normal, but Ronnie was having none of it. In fact, she was flirting with McLaggen and was quick to inform Hermes ‘You can ask someone else to the Slug Club party. Cormac just asked me, and you obviously are on the lookout for some girly girl instead of- well… have fun with that, Hermes. ’
Before he could say anything in return, Ronnie had shoved past him, ears a deep red.
Cormac flexed and Ronnie giggled-She actually giggled!- at the oaf flexing his muscles. Then talked about quidditch with him for almost an hour, at one point saying ‘it’s so nice to have someone who actually knows what I’m talking about with quidditch! Some boys really don’t know the first thing about sports!’
Hermes glared after her. Oh, so she wanted to play it that way? Fine! He’d bring Lavender as his date! She actually showed interest in him, after all, even though he wasn’t a jock. She was as girly as they came! And as unlike Ronnie as anyone he could think of.
The Christmas Party was a miserable affair. Lavender was nice, but she was not stimulating at all. He could say anything and she’d rarely disagree with him, much less debate him and discuss it in detail. Hermes had wanted to make Ronnie jealous- especially when he said loudly to Lavender “It’s so nice to have a date who l knew would look pretty tonight. Some girls really don’t know how to look good for things like this” but instead Ronnie just looked hurt. He hadn’t meant to insult Ronnie. He thought she was the prettiest girl in the world, really. But he knew it was a tender point for her, as she never was very girly, and couldn’t afford nicer dresses and things like the other girls.
This wasn’t feeling good at all.
After the party he waited in the common room, hoping to set things a bit more right with Ronnie before break, but she came in giggling with Cormac, and snogged him deeply right at the portrait hole and Hermes saw red. What was the point in trying to set things right with her at all!
She was a- what was the term she used? Oh yes! A scarlet woman! He told her as much once McLaggen had gotten his fug mug out of there for them to properly fight. And she ended up slapping him. It hurt way more than he cared to admit, and Ronnie was immediately apologizing for it. He wanted to be mad at her. He wanted to hate her! But he couldn’t. Not when she was saying sorry and looking at him with her big blue eyes filling with tears.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have-- I overreacted, I’m so sorry! Are you ok?”
“Yeah… Yeah I’m fine,” Hermes admitted, testing his jaw a bit to make sure it was alright. She hit with the power of a bludger. “I deserved it. I was over the line.”
“No I was!”
The two of them stared at each other a long time, neither daring to break the silence.
“Are you really dating Cormac?” Hermes finally asked, brows crinkled together.
“No…” she answered after a moment of hesitation. “I don’t think so, at least. It’s not official or anything. Are you dating Lavender?”
“I… I don’t know if it’s. We’re not official or anything either…”
“What are we doing?”
“I have no idea,” Hermes said with a shake of his head.
“Imagine that, Hermes Granger not knowing something!” Ronnie laughed. “I just… Why’d you kiss her?”
“Why’d you kiss Cormac?”
“I asked first!”
Hermes swallowed, not used to being so blunt with her when it came to romance. “It just… It felt nice to be wanted…”
“Yeah… same here...” Ronnie said, putting a hand up behind her head and looking to the side as she did when overhwhelmed. “Well, then… Happy Christmas, Hermes. Enjoy your break.”
“Happy Christmas, Veronica.”
She looked up at him through her lashes, then gave him that lopsided smile of hers.
“You’re the only person who calls me that besides Mum.”
Hermes wrinkled his nose at that.
“I like it, though,” she said with another smile. Hermes was quite sure he’d never understand women, and was even less sure he did when she suddenly leaned in and kissed his cheek.
“Write me?” she said.
“Yeah. Yeah of course,” he choked out.
He definitely did not understand women at all.

Kara having a bad day, and Brainy doing his best to make her feel better?
Pick up lines are no way mine.
----
Querl knew Kara was going to have a bad day. Knew it when she stubbed her toe and broke the couch, even when she dropped her favourite coffee mug. The one Lois gave to her when Clark and Lois found out they were going to have a baby.
Having enough at home, Kara left mentally preparing for the day ahead. Querl stood at the kitchen island and thought of ways to help her day more bearable.
See her forgotten Kara's article, Querl smiled knowing just what to do. Finding the stack of post-it notes Kara keeps around, scribbled on a few of them. Finishing up, Querl cleaned up the broken mug, grabbed the article with the sticky notes and left for CatCo. Reminding himself to buy Kara's favourite foods after work.
Qeurl stepped out of the elevator once it stopped on Kara's floor. Smiling to the few workers, he made his way to Kara's desk. "Hello Kara," he greeted when he reached the desk. Kara looked up in confusion.
"Brainy? What are you doing here?" she asked, her forehead crinkled the way it does when she's worried. "Does Alex need me? Is Supergirl needed?"
"No." Holding up the folder with her article. "You forgot this at home. I and distinctly remembered this was due today."
"Oh my god!" Kara exclaimed knocking over her coffee. She groaned and shook her head. "This day isn't going to get any better," she grumbled but took the folder all the same. "Thank you Querl, your a life saver."
He smiled and pressed a kiss on her cheek. "Of course." He stood there by the desk as Kara left for James office. Once Kara was out of sights, Querl set to work, posting the notes everywhere on her desk. With his job done, he left with a small smile. It isn't much, but he hopes it would work.
When Kara walked out of James' office, she was smiling a little. Thanks to Querl, Kara made her deadline. When she reached her desk, she noticed that there were more post-it notes around her desk.
Picking one up, smiled as she read it.
They say Disneyland is the happiest place on earth. Well apparently, no one has ever been standing next to you.
So cheesy. Was the first thought that came to mind. Though it did brighten her mood. Picking up another, she couldn't help the giggle pouring threw her lips.
For some reason, I was feeling a little off today. But when you came along, you definitely turned me on.
I was wondering if you had an extra heart. Mine was just stolen, another said.
Would you grab my arm, so I can tell my friends I’ve been touched by an angel?
"Oh my god," Kara whispered shaking her head. "Where did he find all these?"
Taking another minute, she read another before going back to work.
Do you believe in love at first sight or should I pass by again?
So throughout the day, Kara would pause a moment and read a note Querl had littered on her desk. Some pickup lines were cheesy, other's were cute.
And yeah, he may have not been there in person, but he does know how to make her feel better.

Mistletoe Trap
Angel’s 2017 Christmas Drabble #6 (Christmas Drabbles List)
Request: @feelmyroarrrr said: Sam and why is there mistletoe everywhere? Please Pairing: Sam x Reader Word Count:534  Warnings: Cuteness? It’s fluffy and Christmasy and wonderful. Author’s Note: I think this one was my favorite to plan out--it just fell together so cute in my head. It’s short and sweet, and I hope it as fun to read as it was to write. :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Oh, great!”
Sam’s voice was angry, or annoyed; Dean couldn’t tell which.
He turned towards the sound, watching his brother walk into the kitchen while apparently concerned about his luscious locks. He kept running his fingers through it, as if he thought something was in it.
“Careful there, Sammy, or you’ll muss your mane.”
Sam gave him a bitch face and went to pull a mug out of the cabinet, reaching for the coffee pot.
“Hilarious. Why is there mistletoe everywhere? That’s the second bunch I’ve walked into.”
Dean raised an eyebrow, “mistletoe?”
“Yeah,” Sam pointed towards the main room that he’d just exited, “a couple of different bunches in the doorways. I know you said something about Christmas the other day, but I didn’t know you were trying to decorate the bunker this year, Dean.”
Dean chuckled and took a sip of his own coffee before responding.
“Dude, even if I was going to decorate, I wouldn’t be hanging mistletoe around the place where there’s no one around I want to kiss. Y/N on the other hand….”
Dean let his voice trail off suggestively and was honestly surprised at how long it took Sam to catch on. Wasn’t he supposed to be the brainy one of the Winchester clan?
“Y/N?”
Dean sighed, reaching out with a hand to pat his officially dim brother on the shoulder.
“Sammy, she’s not been mooning after me for the past two months. If these aren’t big enough hints for her to clue you in on how she feels, I hate to see what she’ll do next… actually, no. I take that back. Keep being dense--the escalation might be funny to watch.”
Dean chuckled, amused by the shocked look on Sam’s face.
“Don’t gimme that surprised look. Like you haven’t been stealing glances at her for the last month when you thought she wasn’t looking. The two of you are ridiculous.”
About 20 minutes later, Dean came back from his room having changed out of his favorite men of letters bathrobe into jeans and a tee-shirt. He reached the main room and stopped dead.
Y/N was there, still in her warm flannel pajamas, her hair mussed and unbrushed, made worse by Sam’s hands inside it as he kissed her beneath a spray of mistletoe over the opposite doorway. Her hands were gripped in his plaid, pulling him close as she almost climbed him in her eagerness.
When Sam’s hand ended up on her ass, pulling her up closer to him, Dean figured he’d better speak up before it got too weird.
“Ahem,” He fake coughed.
Y/N pulled away, her face flushed, panting slightly as she turned to face Dean. Sam looked over her head, his face a mixture of annoyance and amusement at the interruption. Dean was pleased at her stunned grin--she’d clearly been head over heels with his little brother for months now. They deserved each other and a bit of happiness.
“You two are welcome for the mistletoe,” Dean smirked, saluting his brother and Y/N before turning and heading back to his room and his netflix marathon.
Sam would probably be busy for the rest of the day anyway.
