I’ve been stuck in the fixation-rotation and managed to find my way back to DS9 and a two things/possible fic concepts have come out of it:
1:Halloween rolls around and everyone’s in costumes. Jake suggests Amy and Nog go as Christine and the Phantom while he and Ziyal are a 1960’s western power couple. Amy gets kidnapped and the other three have to rescue her; there’s a three way sword duel between the kidnapper, Nog and Amy (who comes in about halfway through to save Nog) while Jake and Ziyal are stuck watching. Very gay shenanigans with Quark and Odo as a B plot that gets tied into the A Plot.
2:After a very interesting cargo gets loose, Nog gets turned into a vampire and Amy gets to take care of him while Jake, Ziyal and Bashir are trying to figure out how to get Nog back to normal. Bram Stocker’s Dracula shenanigans ensue along the way. Amy makes a little bat Nog a sweater early on/Amy over analyzing how Nog looks as a vampire cause “ADHD things”, as she puts it/Amy having a field day in drawing Nog with the wings and pointy ears. Julian and Garak having gay conversations about classic vampire related literature.

life had, seemingly, gone back to normal. for the most part, anyway. artemis went to work every day like she normally did, going about her usual tasks in what felt like a permanent haze. she'd gotten really good at putting on a front, but there was an aching feeling in her chest that was more than unshakeable at this point. she was lost in this thought when the bell above the door jingled, her attention moving towards the person who stepped inside, having to do a double-take as she caught sight of the familiar face. "hi," she nearly squeaked, a sweet smile on her features. "hey, uh, welcome to auntie em's. you can find loads of treasures around here."

We're back at the Medieval Charter Challenge, with our last Peasant household, hay farmers the Hayes, consisting of father and son duo Linseed and Bram. This was an extremely boring household of just waiting for hay to grow for harvest, so I only have a few photos from their first day or two mostly with other sims in, and no close ups of their faces even! 🤭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's old man Linseed cutting a rug with local Almshouse resident Lucilla Reed, while young Bram tries it on with her housemate Lyn Harrison. However, it seems the ladies have other plans!
Tumblr media
Cheeky young Rowan Wilde finds this development hilarious.
Tumblr media
Heir to the only Gentry class family, Darwin Squire should know better than to fool around with such riff-raff. But while her mother Wintour isn't around, Darwin acts like any silly adolescent might.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Bram thinks making an acquaintence of local good warlock Henrik Lachford might prove fruitful.
Tumblr media
Back home and Bram is off to try and earn a living while waiting for the harvest to come in. He works in the Cooking career as a Sculion, whatever that means. Lucky guy gets picked up by a lady on a horse!
Tumblr media
And finally, Linseed seems to have eyes for yeoman Queenie Hive, with a match in mind to help better himself and his son I'm sure. If he thinks she's wealthy though, he better think again... Next time I'll be properly introducing our last family, the gentry Squire's.

Homophobia and absolutely no gaydar (Dracula related)
I had to remove someone from my Horror Comics Facebook group for some blatant homophobia.    I guess they (yet again) forgot who created that group...
They also went in a weird tangent about how straight Count Dracula is...  Apparently pissed off because I mentioned that Marvel's Dracula is confirmed as pan now. Many literary experts believe the character of Renfield was a reflection of Stoker's guilt for being attracted to Henry Irving (The actor who inspired Dracula's look in the novel).      The German production of Frank Wildhorn's Dracula the musical had grooms beside brides.     The 1936 film Daughter of Dracula was as gay as it could be despite the Hayes code.   It was so gay that a night club was opened in San Francisco named Dracula's Daughter in honor of the non-straight nature of that movie.  The song "Fresh Blood" in Dracula the musical has Dracula literally announce he wants Jonathan Harker and Mina. "You and your Mina, you'll live forever..."    Dracula was also interested in a man in Boom Comics Dracula: In the Company of Monsters (2011) where he stalked the male protagonist the way he does women in most films.    Steven Moffat's Dracula is bisexual. Dario Argento's Dracula (2012) was bisexual, according to the director.       There is a deleted scene from 1992's Bram Stoker's Dracula indicating that Renfield thought Dracula would be his lover but he "Lost him to that pretty woman."    The 2004 Dracula the musical has "The master's song reprise" where Dracula is literally inches from kissing Renfield on the mouth.    Jerry Dandridge (who was confirmed as secretly being Dracula in the Fright Night 1985 novelization) had a live-in male "companion" in the original movie.     Marvel's Dracula is not the only one that had male and female lovers.    I can't imagine being THAT oblivious and having that low of a gaydar as to think Dracula was ever straight...       It reminds me of when I was in an Anne Rice fan group on Yahoo back in the 90s and a Louis fan couldn't accept that Anne Rice's vampires aren't straight.   I got an angry caplocked "MY PRINCE CHARMING IS STRAIGHT!!!" in response to a post where I pointed out that Lestat and Louis were lovers...  Universal Studios forbid scenes of Bela Lugosi biting men because they felt the character was already "too gay".  But yeah, sure, buddy, you go and convince yourself Dracula was straight this whole time.    Wait until he finds out about Carmilla. Or Dracula's son being bi in Castlevania (Netflix series).

Any advice for ocs from the wammy house? Like specialities, personalities that are different from existing characters, and aliases?
my first advice would be that all the orphans' real identities are kept secret. not even roger, as the caretaker, knew everyone's actual names. i like to think that as soon as they go to wammy's, the orphans discard their old names/lives and start over through their aliases.
the wammy house is a home for gifted children, so even if they aren't extremely intelligent like L, they can be gifted in other areas and still be welcomed into the orphanage so don't feel like you have to make them with that in mind.
another thing to keep in mind is that your oc doesn’t have to be a good guy. look at mello and matt, or even beyond birthday for example.
i can't really help with personalities, as i feel like that's a tall order. if you want help creating an oc from scratch, i think i need more information to work with. i can however help with alias/specialty ideas!
aliases can be anything really, but if you're looking for more unique and fun names like the characters in the show here are a few ideas:
august, atomic, abel, arwyn
briar, bleu, bram, bellamy
cinder, cupid, carmel, corvus
declan, dahlia
edison, emre, ezra
fable, forrest, faust
greer, gale, grayce
henley, hendrix, harlow, hayes
juno, juniper
karma, kai, knox, kane
lavender, larkyn, luna, loren
maeve, mavis, magnus, margo
noa, noel, noir
octavia, olive, opal
piper, peony, pellam, peyton
rasmus, rune, rhys, rowan
shae, sybil
willow, wren, waverly
yule, yale, york
specializations
combat; could be used as a bodyguard or even to interrogate people using brute force
imitation/disguise; able to imitate others voices and with that, disguises themselves to be multiple identities
weapon-handling; just like with combat, can use these to be a bodyguard or take on dirty work such as assassinations and such.
chemist; very good at making concoctions. could be acid, bombs, even drugs.
acrobatics; very flexible. pair this with someone who is sneaky and they could be an excellent infiltrator/thief.
analyzing/observation; very perceptive. can notice details normal people can’t and can read other’s behaviors. can tell if you’re lying and etc.a good example of this would be the characters from the bau in criminal minds. i’d also say they can read lips.
forgery/plagiarism; whether it be copying someone’s exact signature, to recreating a painting to the exact detail.. a very useful skill to have if you need important documents or etc.
drawing; just an extremely talented artist, whether it’s digital, on a canvas, or just paper. can use any material to make a beautiful piece of art and can make it on any type of surface
sculpting/carving; self explanatory really. same as the drawing skill, except rather than 2d art, it focuses on 3d figures instead and etc.
plants; they have an especially green thumb- a green hand, even. they can identify any type of plant and knows how to use specific ones to their advantage (such as ones that are poisonous or medicinal and etc).
and that’s all i can think of right now!

New DRACULA Sports Female Feline Fangs
Review: COUNTESS DRACULA By:  Perry Tannenbaum
Tumblr media
Yes, playwright Tony Wright has flipped his villain’s gender for his new Halloween confection, COUNTESS DRACULA, but the ripest of the fiend’s victims – Mina and Lucy – remain substantially as they were when Bram Stoker published his original novel in 1897. In fact, allof Wright’s players are now women, including the vampire queen’s most implacable…

I’m glad to have gotten to so much this year, but job inconsistencies have rendered my book consumption inconsistent (I listen to audiobooks while performing physical tasks). I also fell short of my goal of 52 books, but I only developed that goal in June/July.
I’ll aim to hit the target in 2020, with a focus on texts relating to foreign policy, military matters, and leadership skills for nonfiction and...no particular focus in fiction.
