Not a Holly Jolly Christmas Party

The women downplayed how Brynn Whitfield was flirting with Erin Lichy’s husband.

Jessel Taank said that she was in no way trying to steal Erin’s husband, and Jenna Lyons said that Brynn flirts while ordering steak.

It’s understandable that flirting is just in Brynn’s nature.

She’s a happy-go-lucky girl who got bored at a boring party. She just wanted to have some fun.

While she meant no harm, she must understand that not everybody will take jokes about divorce as lightly as she does.

And Erin and Abe Lichy clearly didn’t appreciate the joke.

After Erin stormed out of Brynn’s Christmas workshop, she called her sister to vent.

The way they were speaking about Brynn was not nice. They were calling her a bitch and ridiculed her for wearing shades as if she was a celebrity.

It seemed like Erin’s father was glaring at Jenna for grabbing Erin’s ass, and Erin’s sister was upset with the women during the endless speeches.

Brynn got mad when Erin accused her of flirting with her husband, because she was not seriously flirting with him.

Brynn reminds me of a merged version between Brandi Glanville and Carrie Bradshaw. Overly flirtatious, and she’s got her Mr. Big.

I could say that Brynn has a good guy wrapped around her finger with Gideon, but if it’s not right for her, it’s not right.

The good are never easy and the easy never good, as Marina said in her song “Homewrecker”.

Jenna had also told the women about her breakup, and while she appears to be doing okay, her vulnerability becomes clear when someone address it directly.

She keeps on dropping interesting details about herself though.

We’re seven episodes in and we’ve now learned that her real name was Judith! Jessel’s reaction to the name is probably why Jenna changed it.

While growing up her brother had called her Jenna-Jenna-talia!

The women were having fun at the workshop, but Erin wanted to ruin Brynn’s day.

I’m starting to agree with Jessel. Erin has had an issue with everybody so far, and maybe the women isn’t the problem.

A friend and I have a question about Georgian seed-cakes, and, having followed your quest for an authentic period seed-cake, I thought I would apply to you for assistance! All of the period seed-cake recipes we have seen seem to be light sponges, but we encountered a reference in The Lyon in Mourning to a piece of seed-cake being sent from Edinburgh to Rome around the 1760s/1770s, as a gift for Charles Edward Stuart from a Jacobite Supporter.

"Ay !" said he [Charles Edward Stuart], "a piece of cake from Scotland, and from Edinburgh too !" Then rising from his seat and opening a drawer, "Here," said he, "you see me deposite it, and no teeth shall go upon it but my own!"

Do you have any knowledge of a historical seed-cake recipe that might travel so well as that?

Thank you for the interesting question! I have only traveled briefly with seed cakes, so I don't have a specific recipe that I can recommend for that purpose. One of my cookbooks explores the historical background of seed cake, the excellent Setting a Fine Table: Historic Desserts and Drinks from the Officers' Kitchens at Fort York by Elizabeth Baird and Bridget Wranich.

Baird and Wranich adapt a recipe from 1755, "A Seed Cake, Very Rich" written by Elizabeth Cleland in A New and Easy Method of Cookery. They explain, "Early seed cakes were raised by the addition of yeast. Initially, eggs were added to enrich the cake and, as recipes evolved, they eventually replaced yeast as the leavening. In the 18th century, it was popular to serve seed cakes at harvest time." And they contrast its dense, moist fine crumb against airy commercial pound cakes of the present day.

I found a cookbook from the specific historical era you mention, The Compleat Housewife, Or, Accomplished Gentlewoman's Companion by Eliza Smith, published 1773. There are at least five different recipes for seed cake in this book, all over the place: "A good Seed Cake," "Another Seed Cake," "A rich Seed Cake, called the Nun's Cake." (I've never heard of Nun's Cake). The first one I found seemed pretty different from the recipe I use, although it does have the very metal verbiage "blood-warm."

Some of her alternate recipes are closer to what I make, using brandy for depth of flavour and just whipped eggs for leavening.

Every seed cake recipe I have made, including the not-very-historical one in The Fort George Bill of Fare that uses baking powder, produces a very dense, rich, butter-heavy cake. I imagine that if you tightly wrapped it it would travel well and stay moist, and the addition of more alcohol is also a possibility (some of Eliza Smith's recipes call for sack i.e. fortified wine).

Both Cleland and Smith specify using the hands to work the butter into a cream, and Baird and Wranich note that their museum staff and historical interpreters do this for visitors at Fort York. (I find an electric mixer much faster and easier).

Gray knew the correct name. He also knew what it felt like when a tree puppet chomped down on someone's body. But since Lyon seemed convinced that Gray was an idiot, well, that was a pretty easy role to play.

Most of the songs that become viral, that people love on TikTok, a top 10 song for a few weeks, or just the “it” person of the moment, they don’t have the longevity factor. They just don’t!

20 years from now, no one will be talking about a good 75% of the music today. They will talk about Chris Stapleton, Adele, Taylor Swift, and maybe Harry Styles and maybe Jack Harlow:

The substance I’m talking about is definitely found in a few of their songs. Especially with Adele. Taylor is just up and down for me and a lot is repetitive 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Chris Stapleton is the singer they will talk about in 20 years. He had the longevity. He has the voice. He writes songs that reach your soul no matter what they are about. That’s what this generation needs. Not the next TikTok viral song.

I make it a point to turn older songs on in the car with my son, niece, and nephew. I want them to know about The Eagles, Al Green, Journey, Prince, Salt n Peppa, tupac, NSYNC, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Nelly, Brandy, boys II men, nas, usher, Reba mcentire, brooks and Dunn, faith hill, George strait, George jones, Johnny cash, frank sinatra, the temptations, Aretha Franklin, And the list goes on! I want to give them a variety!

I will tell you that my all time favorite video and favorite performances across the board is BB King with Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, and Jimmie Vaughan playing The Thrill is Gone. Hands down the best performance there ever was.

no kiss could not sleep much so bit – I had killed a bug on my night things just before getting into bed last night – said not a word of this - A- so bit, awoke before I got into bed – I saw she would not sleep so rubbed her all over with brandy – lucky thought - and she slept very well afterwards – had better have done the same to myself but did not like the small and feel of it – so was worse off – very much bit all the night long  - Off from la poste at Pont du Chateau [Pont-du-Château] at 6 5 - Pont de C- a largish town - nice drive to Clermont [Clermont-Ferrand]  – very populous thereabouts and in La Limagne – white houses dotted all over among the vineyards – Clermont [Clermont-Ferrand]  a handsome looking town in the distance - Montferrand with its good church about 1/2 mile off – saw it 1st and for a moment took it for Clermont [Clermont-Ferrand]  - at 7 25 drove up to the hotel de l’Europe at Clermont [Clermont-Ferrand], as recommended à l’hotel de l’Europe a Lyons – dirty poor place – sad mistake for us to have been recommended there – the fair begins tomorrow so everything dear – drove off to the Ecu de France – ½ hour before getting all settled – large double bedded room for which to pay 11/. per day - dinner 8/. breakfast 3/. tout compris= 30/. per day – breakfast at 8 ½ in an hour – asleep – undressed and put on clean linen – F75° at 11 50 -  never felt the heat so much – A- overcome found that we were over the kitchen – the hostess very civil – changed immediately into a smaller but cooler room – had a sort of 1 horse stool-waggon (2 seats or benches and siège de cocher) and took the 2 servants and all out at 1 20 - Petrifying well in the garden of the old convent of St Alyre – little things petrified in a month or 40 days - a dog in 5 or 6 months - ‘le parc’ - a droll idea, but good, a little round space containing a petrified cow, man with a pail standing against her, a goat and a dog - the man (of wax - a mannequin) too about ¾ year the goat 9  or 10 months same as the man and the cow (real cow) 2 ½ years - Le pont naturel like a wall of rock in one part not more than 2ft. wide at the top, and over which we walked, a 240 pieds de longueur - hollow at the bottom and the water sort par là into the little fresh water brook that carries it off - it is forming another pont higher up - qui se prolonge par 3 pouces par an, in spite of the water taken off for 20 baths, très fréquentes a cabinet of petrifacation - a small requin (shark) 100/. - several bunches  of holly which looked pretty small birds etc. but bought nothing of this kind - bought only 3 brochures by M. Dore etc 3/4 hour there - then 10 minutes at the cathedral till 2 ½ - unfinished - only 4 arches of nave – not more than ½ the name done but fine lofty building – beautiful proportions and very beautiful painted glass windows all round the apsis and  in the nave and fine marigold windows one at each end of the transepts –very fine church – pity the English did not complete their work – then to the Puy de la paix, a low mountain about 2 or 3 miles off on the Pont du chateau road a little distance from the road (left as we went) – there in 40 minutes at 3 10 for 20 minutes - the pitch oozes perpetually tho’ in small quantity from 3 or 4 little places in the rock - the most considerable oozing is into a little hollow like and about as big as a large English wash-hand basin - then one sees the sulphureted hydrogen gaz [gas] raise up the pitch in little bubbles, and there they say the pigeons like to drink  - we walked over the rock, and, tho’ the sun was boiling, found no danger of leaving our shoes stuck fast - In returning passed the botanic garden – shut – could not get in today – the fair and too great a crowd about – the garden small and did not excite us in great regret at not entering – it is close to the public library and cabinet d’histoire naturelle – there at 4 20 for ½ hour – the librarian not there the man who shewed us round not allowed to let us look into a book – nothing particular in the library or 1 room of minerals - good handsome building – home at 5 10 – dinner at 5 ¼ - took the servants again and off at 6 55 for Royat - drove there in 35 minutes – ¾ hour seeing the sights – church and under church where is the virgin that used to do miracles - the basalt grotte with its 7 springs all conveyed to Clermont [Clermont-Ferrand] - the grenier de Caesar, and brought away some of the old mineralized what - the baths also called the Caesar warm sulphurous water tolerably strong - examined also some old remains of walling the woman guides called Roman, but of the about 3rd century and not at all Roman - very pretty situation - very pretty valley but so wooded one could see nothing - too late into the bargain - home at 8 ¾ - set to go to the top of the Puy de Dome and to the silver mines tomorrow - Very fine day - very hot F73° at 9 20 pm.

DeSantis' general counsel sent a letter earlier this week to State Attorney Monique Worrell seeking documents and emails about the prior arrests and prosecution decisions involving 19-year-old Keith Moses, both as a juvenile and an adult. Juvenile records are typically kept private in Florida.

The request from the governor’s office comes as DeSantis fights against what he calls “woke” prosecutors, bolstering his conservative criminal justice platform ahead of an expected run for president.

DeSantis last year removed State Attorney Andrew Warren, a twice-elected Democrat in Tampa, over his signing of pledges that said he would not pursue criminal charges against seekers or providers of abortion or gender transition treatments, as well as policies about not bringing charges for certain low-level crimes.

A lawyer for the families of the slain girl and the reporter said DeSantis and Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, who has also scrutinized Worrell over Moses' criminal history, appear to be exploiting the deaths for their political agendas.

“The families believe this all smells and smacks of political opportunism, by both DeSantis and Scott, and it is appalling to them,” attorney Mark NeJame said at a news conference Thursday in Orlando.

During the news conference, members of the families hugged each other and cried. They described the victims as, respectively, a compassionate storyteller and a little girl with a big heart who loved gymnastics.

"I'm sorry to miss her so much! She was the best little girl!" T'yonna Major's mother, Brandi Major, sobbed before leaving the room after being overwhelmed by emotion.

Spectrum News 13 reporter Dylan Lyons' father, Gary Lyons, said he was “shocked” that neither DeSantis nor Scott "had taken 30 seconds out of their time" to reach out to his family to convey they were sorry for their loss. The family has heard from other political leaders, he said.

In the letter to Worrell, whose jurisdiction covers the Orlando area, DeSantis general counsel Ryan Newman said her office failed to hold Moses accountable, “despite his extensive criminal history and gang affiliation.”

The letter noted that Moses was arrested during a traffic stop in November 2021 for cannabis possession. According to a police report, a deputy witnessed a gun being thrown out of the car window as it was being pulled over. The three occupants had ski masks and past firearm charges, including Moses who was on juvenile felony probation.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office deputy charged Moses with a drug offence and not a firearm offence. The case was dismissed the following month after prosecutors concluded it wasn't suitable to pursue.

“Moses should never have been in a position to commit those senseless crimes last week,” Newman's letter said.

In response, Worrell said the letter from the governor's office was full of misconceptions. There wasn't conclusive evidence that Moses was illegally in possession of marijuana, said Worrell.

“The suggestions and accusations that my office’s ‘policies’ promote crime are empty political statements unsupported by actual facts,” Worrell said in a statement.

Moses is facing three first-degree murder charges for last week's fatal shootings of Lyons, Major, and Nathacha Augustin. Also shot were the girl's mother and Spectrum News 13 photographer Jesse Walden.

In his executive order suspending Warren, the Tampa prosecutor, DeSantis cited state law that allows him to remove officials for neglect of duty and incompetence.

In all cases, Warren has applied prosecutorial discretion to determine whether charges should be brought based on pledges to personal political positions. He has launched a legal battle in federal and state courts to get his job back.
