Heyo! I'm back from my hiatus and re-configuring this blog, so I figured it was worth posting a little update on what I wrote while I was away.

I finally "finished" my Elder Gods series - I'm not saying I'll never write for it again, but for now I have no more ideas on the horizon. The final three stories finish Allen's arc, and provide a look at the future for him, as well as for the other inhabitants of that settlement:

Moving forward, I don't have plans to write for any fandom - not saying I never will again, but I don't have any inspo right now. Instead, I'll be focusing on writing stories with my own original characters! I have a set of stories I'm developing, and I've written a small story that introduces the characters/setting:

The Woods are Lovely, Dark, and Deep (Rated G, gen fic)

I answered 5 in my previous ask, so I’ll just cover the other two here.

10. Which character(s) turned out different than you had planned? How so?

From BE9, I think Elijah turned out much different than I imagined when I first came up with this story. Back then I had imagined him as a much softer, more sympathetic character that Allen would take care of. But when I finally got to writing him I realized that would be sort of disrespectful to Chloe (and Gavin/Niles to some degree) and what she went through at his hands. The end of BE9 was always going to be about ‘sometimes people who hurt you get to live their own rich, fulfilled lives’, but the way Elijah turned out to fit that theme without dipping into wooby territory I hope. Yes, he’s traumatized and fucked up and hurt in his own way, but he’s still not a nice guy deep down, and Allen has to come to terms with that.

From my new ghost hunting series, it’s been interesting to see how the characters I’ve written before (Scott, Rowan, Shep) are changing and developing in this new setting! I feel like my characters usually change a lot as I write them, and that’s part of the fun c:

what was your writing-highlight this year? what made it special and how will you reflect on it next year?

There were two highlights I’d say for this year! The first was that I “finished” the Elder Gods/BE9 series, and it was sooo satisfying to finally wrap up Allen’s story! I’m very happy with how it turned out, and the fact that I was able to write it for myself despite the naturally declining reader interest. The second highlight was really recent, honestly, and it was realizing that I wanted to write my own original stories! Starting to write those has been so fun and freeing, and I’m actually enjoying writing again c: I’m going to keep that feeling going in the new year hopefully!

5. what is your favorite book/story/poem you read this year?

Ooooh this one’s fun, cause I’ve actually been reading books again this year! I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed Piranesi by Susanna Clarke - it was such an interesting take on the ‘spooky house’/endless space genre for me. It also just has this incredibly warm and comforting feeling to it that made it a delightful read. Highly recommend!

2. What's your AO3 word count? 917,682, although some of those aren't mine due to some of my longest works being shared RPs I posted

3. What fandoms do you write for? I have works mostly posted for Detroit: Become Human and the Witcher Netflix, but I've written a few for others, like Transistor and LotR. And now I have 2 that are original works!

4. What are your Top 5 Fics by Kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments? Always! If a reader has made a comment, I'll make sure to reply, even if it's just to say 'thank you' :) It just might take me a while to get to it sometimes

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? There Are No Atheists in Foxholes (DBH, E)! Can't get much more angsty than MCD lmao (altho does it count if he comes back in like 300 years?)

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I am a fluffy gal usually lmao, almost all of my fics have happy sappy endings!

8. Do you get hate on fics? Thankfully no, I've never gotten any hate on my fics. Very grateful for that, but I'm very much not afraid of the block button.

9. Do you write smut? LOL I've written my fair share. I've got 41 E rated fics on AO3, and 17 M rated fics, so that's a decent amount of the spice. Lately though I haven't been feeling that vibe as much, so much so that the last bit of smut I wrote was quite difficult!

10. Do you write cross-overs? Mmmmmm not sure if I've written a traditional crossover, where characters from both franchises interacted... But I popped some Witcher characters into a LotR setting, and some DBH characters into a Witcher setting at some point!

11. Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope, but I've had podfic made of my fic, which was incredibly flattering <3

12. Have you ever cowritten a fic before? Yep, several times.

13. What is a WIP you would like to finish but doubt you ever will? Mmmm...I don't tend to abandon WIPs, even if it takes me a long time to return. The few chaptered fics that are 'unfinished' on AO3 are the only ones I'll never return to

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship? I could never pick while I was in the trenches lmao, and now that I've been kind of out of my fandoms for a while I don't have an opinion either XD

15. What are you writing strengths? Folks always tell me my descriptions are engaging, which makes me happy because that's something I work very hard on. I hope my characters and their relationships are a strength as well

16. What are your writing weaknesses? Probably niche-ness lmao. I love to create a hyper-specific scenario that only I enjoy, so it doesn't reach any kind of audience. I also know I'm very bad at writing action sequences, which is why I never write them lmao

17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I'm not a fan, tbh. Unless it's a language you're really familiar with, the chances of getting it wrong are too high. And the clunkiness of putting it in the fic makes it...oof.

18. First fandom you wrote for? For my own sanity I'll pass on this one lmao. My first AO3 fic was most certainly DBH

19. Favourite fic you’ve ever written? Also hard to choose...Privately I'm very fond of Let Me In (i'll be good to you, i swear) - any of my prairie-based fics hold a special place in my heart

20. What fic would you want to rewrite one day? Hard question - right now I'd have to say none! I'm very much a 'when it's done it's done' girlie

Another little concept I worked on while I was gone was a complete ‘reading order’ timeline for BE9/Elder Gods (including main and side stories). Since it got written over so many years the organization is off in my AO3 collections and that bugs me lmao. Not sure if it would be useful/interesting to anyone else, but I still might do it for my own little organizational satisfaction 🤔

Thinking about how much I love that Fringilla is one of the main ‘villains’ in the netflix show. (I say ‘villain’ in quotes because our attitude towards Nilfgaard is subjective and shaped by the narrative but like, she’s definitely up to some shit) Because you know I love a good villain and WOW is Fringilla a good one!!

Like, you take this woman who’s clearly been coddled her whole life, and probably told that she’s Not Very Bright and Not Very Good At Magic, and who’s gonna land a cushy safe job because of her family (and like, maybe the other girls at school aren’t too keen on her because of the obvious nepotism? We never got to see much bonding at Aretuza but we could speculate)...and then suddenly the rug is pulled out from under her. She’s sent off to the shitty backwater full of people who go to betrothal banquets and say weird things about their virility, and she’s probably scared out of her mind but also

Nilfgaard has gotta just be whispering to Fringilla “Aren’t you tired of being nice? Don’t you just wanna go apeshit?” 

AND SHE DOES!!! And it turns out she’s actually a fucking badass who’s incredibly competent and skilled, not just at magic but also at managing people and motivating them! She’s clearly the driving force here, not Cahir, who gets frustrated and angry and does impulsive shit. She’s level-headed, ruthless, and she always has a plan in place it seems like. Hell, Fringilla beats TISSAIA at her own game!! Because Tissaia probably still thinks of her as the dull girl from Aretuza

Anyways this is not like, rocket science, this is just me saying things that are probably already obvious from the show but I just can’t stop thinking about how cool of a character Fringilla is. What a badass. I hope she kicks everyone’s ass a little bit more in the next season because she deserves it!!

Anyways I’ve been really into cross stitching since like the end of 2019, and this was my first big project!! I made many many mistakes but I’m still v pleased with how the lad turned out 🥰 and hey, the next project is already better, so live and learn! Stitching is just so relaxing, and I love how cute this pattern is <3
