Saint Agatha was born into an important Sicilian family and from an early age dedicated herself to Christ as a virgin. Legend has it that one suitor, Quintian, after being rejected, had Agatha imprisoned in a brothel for one month to change her mind. After suffering abuse and humiliation but never wavering, Quintian then sent her to prison where she suffered the torture of having her breasts cut off. Then an earthquake struck, killing Quintian and Agatha died peacefully. She has been invoked during Mt. Etna’s eruptions.

I just spoke to Tamara Tucci this Saturday night, following her Double Mastectomy/Breast Cancer. She is in a lot of pain and heavily medicated in the Florida Hospital. She can barely move her arms without enormous pain. Always, always count your *blessings.* Tamara's life depended on having the surgery. Her CHRISTMAS is in the hospital. Background: 35 years old, married to the best person I’ve ever known, diagnosed with breast cancer in July, high BRCA risk factor. I will just admit the biggest thing I’m reeling from is being scared that we’ll never be able to have kids and start a family. Also, the loneliness. Everything else that comes with it sucks of course but is also temporary. The two former things get me in really bad places. Doing THP-AC dose dense regimen. On the AC or “red devil” stretch at the moment. Many takes to be had about this nickname. I don’t care, to each their own.

We recently moved to a whole new state for his work. I don’t have personal connections here. No strong familial social support. My mother died 3 weeks ago but did not receive much support from her and only one-sided, self centered communication. Not to get off track, story for another day. The point is just that I’m kind of lonely here and always have been at least a little lonely. Yes, amazing husband is great always, and I’m not trying to sound greedy or ungrateful.

I got a whole other tangent ready for how people like to assign loneliness. I want family, tribe, community. It’s a different kind of loneliness. One that I would argue is harder to fix if it ever can, and is the lonelier of lonelinesses to have because it is harder for others who don’t experience it to empathize with. Everyone starts basically from the same place romantically, in that we start with nothing and we all seek it with each other. At least that feeling is universal.

My thoughts tend to run away, and I’m bad at writing. Chemo brain makes it hard to organize thoughts. I’m here because I seek connection and interaction. I have to physically quarantine from people because of the whole being immuno-compromised thing, so groups, meetup, hobby type things are not an option. Do people still write personal blogs like in the LiveJournal heyday? Is this how one can use Tumblr? I didn’t use it much back in the day either. I just really want to relate with another human and feel less in my head and cuckoo. 🫠

In honor of breast Cancer awareness month, I thought I would post this picture of an in progress mastectomy piece I am currently in the process of doing. This is a scar cover up as well as a tattoo coverup! Why?? Well as you can see in the second picture, they utilized tissue from her stomach to rebuild her breasts and they just happened to have tattoos! So this is a double whammy!!! I am so happy to be able to do this piece as Breast Cancer is one of those things which has struck my family and my friends (of whom this is one). Its nasty. This is my brave!! *another ☝🏾 Ten years ago… she/her was smiling through the pain! This pic was an example of that tenacity I had whole fighting for life!! But on Valentine’s Day 2013 - it was finished ❤️ Yes it’s the day of Lovers…but for me it means SO MUCH MORE!! This girl right here…with her hair growing in & burnt skin (it got worse) - but I made it to last daily radiation treatment for stage 2A idc #breastcancer on Valentine’s Day 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣3️⃣ NOW 10 years post active treatments I CELEBRATE her/she/ME 🙌🏾🎊🥳 Body worn out from fighting for 11 MONTHS!! Double mastectomy with muscle expanders placed, 6 cycles of aggressive chemotherapy infusion every 3 weeks for 3 months, breast reconstruction surgery with implants, and finally daily radiation treatments 😲☹️ But God!!!! Bruised, peeling, hurting, discoloration, fatigue, white meat, ointments, bandages & all!! God covered & kept me!! So this will be the coverdesign for the breastcancer-broshure. I used the colors from the company CD - red and blue - in 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%, plus black and white. The letters are not yet perfect but that’s  a thing for another day. There will be 5 more illustrations. I’m already tired.
