What kind of silicone breasts should I get for my trans femme friend? She can’t transition yet, and I want to get her something to help with her dysphoria.

How long do silicone breasts last?

Most silicone and saline implants are FDA approved for 10-20 years, but this does not mean that you have to get them replaced every 10-20 years. You can safely go beyond these time frames, and most patients only have to have 1-2 replacements in their lifetime.

What do silicone breast feel like?

In general, silicone breast implants feel most like youthful breast tissue, firm, but yielding. Saline breast implants are the next most natural feeling. Some people will tell you they feel like water balloons, but that's not quite right.

How much do breast implants cost?

Typically, the surgery ranges from $5,000 to $10,000. Because it is a cosmetic procedure, health insurance usually doesn't cover breast augmentation.

Do you lose feeling in your nipples after breast implants?

One of the most common concerns for breast augmentation patients is a loss of nipple sensitivity and/or numbness in the entire breast. While this can be a perfectly normal side effect of surgery and is usually temporary, it can, understandably, make patients nervous.

How long is recovery from breast implants?

On average, a full recovery period usually takes about four to six weeks. It's important to refrain from physical activity, lifting heavy objects and overworking yourself during this sensitive time.

How much do breast implants weigh?

Every 100cc of saline implant weighs 0.21lbs. A typical 300cc saline implant will weigh 0.63lb, with a pair weighing around 1.26lbs.

How painful is a breast augmentation?

Not as painful as you might think. In fact, the pain of recovery is so negligible that over-the-counter pain medications, such as Advil or Tylenol, are adequate to manage any discomfort felt after the surgery.

Do breast implants feel natural?

Silicone breast implants tend to feel more like natural breast tissue than saline alternatives. This is particularly true of the form stable (“gummy bear”) breast implant, which is filled with a cohesive gel that mimics the feel of natural breast tissue almost perfectly.

What I wish I knew before getting breast implants?

Implants have their risks, so do your research.

Over 10% of patients reportedly experience capsular contraction, a hardening of the breast caused by shrinking scar tissue around the implant. It's possible to develop an infection, which could happen days, years, or even decades after the procedure.

What is the best age to get a breast augmentation?

While most women seeking first-time breast surgery tend to be between the ages of 25 and 45, anyone aged 18 or older who is in good health should be a viable candidate for breast augmentation.

Is it okay to lose weight after breast augmentation?

A small weight drop after getting breast implants will have little to no impact on your implants and breast size. A patient would have to lose a significant amount of weight (in ratio to their overall weight) to see a decrease in breast size and a potential impact on the implants.

Do and don'tttts after breast surgery?

1) Immediately after surgery – Rest as much as possible and don't so any exercise.

2) 1 week after – Don't rush back into your exercise routine. Start slowly with light exercise, such as small tasks around the house or garden.

3) Week 2 –You should avoid exercise for the upper body for 6 weeks.

Should you sleep in a bra after breast augmentation?

IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW that you will need to wear a sports bra at night when you sleep for as long as you have implants. This is to prevent the implants from going out to your side.

How can I hide my breast implants from family?

You can control how much people notice your breasts with your clothing and underwear choices. Wearing looser tops with a modest neckline and a regular, non-push-up bra can easily keep your augmentation incognito.

What happens if you don't massage your breast implants?

Massaging your breasts at regular intervals can prevent the onset of capsular contracture. Although rare, the post-surgical complication causes the soft tissue that surrounds the implants to harden and tighten. Many patients with this complication find that their breasts become painful to touch.

What should you not do before breast augmentation?

Avoid anything strenuous or that could potentially cause injury to your shoulders, back, pectoral muscles, arms or upper body.

To measure your bra size accurately, follow these steps:

Band Size:

-Measure around your ribcage just under your bust.

-Make sure the measuring tape is snug but not tight.

-If the measurement is an even number, that is your band size.

-If it's an odd number, round up to the nearest even number.

Cup Size:

-Measure around the fullest part of busy.

-Subtract your band measurement from this bust measurement.

-Use the difference to find your cup size on a bra size chart:

1 inch difference: A cup

2 inches: B cup

3 inches: C cup

4 inches: D cup, and so on.

Putting these together, your bra size is the band size followed by the cup size (e.g., 34C).
