Witch hunters
Tanjirou knows they'll find him; he's seen it. He kisses Nezuko on the forehead and puts a necklace with a protective spell on her.
She's a demon, but a good one; Tanjirou has tried to find the right spell to make her human again, but so far all his attempts have been futile.
Before the rumors about him using black magic spread, Tanjirou thought he had time to find the cure, but now he's not so sure.
He's succeeded in hiding from witch hunters all this time, but these are the nine best of the whole land. Tanjirou is not sure if they'll give him time to explain himself.
Maybe he should've agreed to marry that man; the rejection made him come up with all those lies about Tanjirou after all.
The day of the arrival, Tanjirou prepares Nezuko to go into the forest alone; he knows she's very strong and powerful now that she's a demon, but that doesn't mean she's indestructible.
Despite hating lies, Tanjirou does lie to her and promises he'll see her again; he knows if he doesn't do this, she won't leave him.
"If I don't come to you quickly, go look for a place to stay for a while, okay? I'll find you."
Nezuko nods and doesn't hesitate because Tanjirou has never lied to her.
This could be the first time and last if everything goes completely wrong.
Once she's gone Tanjirou starts preparing a protection spell around the house that he knows it won't last forever, but perhaps long enough to explain his case to the witch hunters.
Tanjirou sighs; it's snowing, but it doesn't affect what he can see in his enchanted mirror.
They're getting closer.
They say those nine witch hunters have powers too and that's one of the reasons they can fight demons and black magic users. They're also very skilled with a katana.
He takes a deep breath before going outside; there's mist but it disappears in a second before revealing nine warriors. They know they can't come inside for now.
Tanjirou takes a few steps closer; he hears them gasp, but he decides not to look at them in the eye... instead, he starts talking.
He tells them how his family died, he speaks about the demon who can use black magic and cursed his little sister; he tells them that he's been helping people and trying to find a cure for Nezuko.
It's painful to bring back some of those memories, but he needs to be honest and vulnerable around them if he wants them to trust him.
"I don't want to hurt anyone, I just want my sister to be human again," Tanjirou stops abruptly because he can sense the magic shield disappearing.
He doesn't run because he hopes they believe him; he has always trusted people, he likes to give them opportunities to prove they have good hearts.
Tanjirou falls to his knees waiting for the worst when he doesn't hear anything from them in a while; maybe it's asking too much of them to believe in a complete stranger who knows how to use magic.
He can feel their past pain; he knows they have suffered a lot and they have probably been betrayed a couple of times too.
Sometimes they can't risk trusting someone again.
Tanjirou understands and hopes they don't find Nezuko.
When he's about to close his eyes a hand reaches out to him; he takes it, knowing the spell is gone and rises before looking into very deep blue eyes.
"We'll help you," says the swordsman with black hair, right before another gets closer and takes Tanjirou's other hand.
"We'll protect you, my boy!" This one is like a flame; Tanjirou doesn't need to be a witch to guess what kind of powers he has.
After they introduce themselves, Tanjirou goes into the woods and brings Nezuko back for them to meet.
They're actually very kind and some are affectionate too; Kanroji and Tokito are constantly hugging him and Rengoku doesn't seem to understand what personal space is most of the time.
But Tanjirou likes them; he makes meals for them and welcomes them into his house that has become their home too because they're constantly there whenever they're not on a mission.
It's nice to have friends... Tanjirou didn't know he needed that because he had spent a while on his own.
He can definitely get used to this.
***
It's nice to stay in one place; before he met his Pillars (the best witch hunters) Tanjirou had to move often in order to protect himself and his sister.
Now he can have a normal life again; he even goes to the nearest village because the people there trust the hashira and when they told them Tanjirou was a good witch they didn't hesitate to welcome him and even his sister.
He has a couple of friends in the village now; the Pillars are constantly coming back to his house, they bring him gifts and are constantly staying with him and even helping him with his potions.
Tanjirou patches them up every single time; he usually makes healing potions for them so they can take care of themselves, but they often come back so Tanjirou cleans their wounds.
He has started to think that they enjoy when he takes care of them.
"A kiss, please, I deserve it, for being a good patient," Uzui often says, leaning closer to him. The first time Tanjirou thought his wives would get mad and they do get mad, but only because they want Tanjirou to kiss them as well.
"If you're going to kiss him, I want one too!" Shinazugawa demands before hissing at Uzui.
Usually that only leads to Tanjirou kissing every single one of the Pillars.
He doesn't mind though, they're his friends after all.
***
Weird things start to happen; young villagers start visiting him to ask for his advice on love. Which is something Tanjirou has no experience with.
Except that one guy who wanted to marry him and then started spreading rumors about him when Tanjirou said no.
"Are there any good love potions I could use?"
"There is not such thing as good love potions," Tanjirou explains to the girl. "Because all of them just give you a very basic idea of love and turn the person into something they're not. Besides, they don't last long. It's better for you to look for real love."
"So you don't do that? You don't make love potions?"
"No. I don't like them," Tanjirou says. They're in his books, but he never makes them.
"I told you he made them fall in love without magic!" Another girl giggles, confusing Tanjirou. "Besides, look at him, he's adorable!"
"He's very pretty too."
Tanjirou is about to ask what they're talking about when Rengoku walks in and the first thing he does is to kiss him on the cheek.
The people around smile knowingly at them.
"So when is the wedding?" An older man asks.
"Probably during spring. Tanjirou loves spring," Kocho answers like she's been part of the conversation the whole time.
What are they talking about?
Then someone asks for a potion and Tanjirou has to push the confusing thoughts out of his head for a moment.
That night all the Pillars arrive and they ask Tanjirou and Nezuko for a moment of their time.
"It seems there has been a misunderstanding lately," Himejima explains calmly, taking one of Tanjirou's hands. "We've been trying to court you for the past weeks, Tanjirou."
It's very overwhelming at first, but part of Tanjirou finally understands; they've been trying to tell him all this time in their own ways.
They have been showing him how much they care for him.
"We love you," Iguro says, surprising the redhead. He's not usually that vocal when it comes to his feelings. "And it'd be an honor if you agreed to marry us all."
"Nothing will happen if you don't want this, of course," Tomioka assures him. "We can still be friends."
Tanjirou realizes a little bit late that he loves them too and he's glad for this conversation because who knows how long he would have remained oblivious if they didn't choose to speak to him about it.
"I'd love to marry you. All of you."
Nezuko gives her approval and the Pillars decide to celebrate their engagement; they make dinner.
Tanjirou gets kissed a lot that night.
They have their spring wedding and it's everything Tanjirou had wished for.
Actually, now that he thinks about it; he's glad he said no to that man all those months ago.
His Pillars found him because of that.

rule #11 - my dream, my addiction
Rule #11 - My Dream, My Addiction - Fish in a Birdcage
Demon Slayer Pairing - Agatsuma Zenitsu & Hashibara Inosuke & Kamado Tanjirou, Kamado Nezuko & Kamado Tanjirou Tags - ptsd, nightmares, flashbacks, hallucinations, suicide attempt (not intentional - think mugen train), mild hurt/comfort, angst, self-harm (same thing), butterfly estate, post-mugen train arc Summary - Tanjiro has unhealed trauma from the Mugen Train Arc. It ends in nightmares and bloody necks. Word Count - 2,170 Cross-posted from Archive of Our Own Whumptober 2023 - Day 25: Nightmares | Flashback | "Why didn't you save me?" See my full Whumptober 2023 Challenge on Tumblr or Ao3
It starts with a nightmare.
Tanjiro stands on the snowy mountain of his birth, his sword gripped tightly in his right hand. His family quivers before him, doused in blood and grime from their gruesome deaths. Their breaths form crystallized ice clouds in front of them. The snow is stained a deep crimson-red.
A horrible sense of deja vu settles over Tanjiro like a thick blanket. Flakes fall on him from the trees shaking in the howling wind. It brushes through his hair and bites his skin in icy blasts. The stomachs, limbs, and necks of his family ooze blood like muddy sand slipping between fingers. They would be unrecognizable if the primary features of their faces had not been carefully preserved and mostly unharmed. Blood forths and spills from their lips all the same.
Tanjiro has been here before.
“Why didn’t you save me?” The youngest one croons, his hands reaching out as he stumbles across the snow to get to his older brother. Tanjiro trembles as he lifts his arm and presses his sword to his neck. He can’t afford to stay here for any longer. The more he sees their mutilated bodies and betrayed expressions, the more he wants to stay and nurse them back to health.
He knows they aren’t real. They can’t be. They’re all manufactured dreams of his worst fears to keep him asleep. He has to cut off his head. He needs to kill the lower-rank demon. He needs to cut off his head. He needs to be decapitated before it’s too late.
His blade presses into his neck, and his eyes snap open at the scent of his own blood. The blade drops unceremoniously from his hands and onto the empty space on the bed beside him. The only light coming into the dark room comes from the shining moon and stars, and the air is gentle with the new spring warmth. The beams above him are devoid of any blood or gore.
The room only contains him and the sounds of his gasping breaths. His neck stings, and he gingerly presses his hand to the new wound. It’s not deep by any means — only a surface-level scratch, but he’s going to have a hard time explaining this away.
Tanjiro catches his breath in the silence of his room. His palm becomes warm and sticky as the cut continues to bleed. Spring should be warm, but he feels an impenetrable chill settle deep in his bones. It’s the cold of the mountain the day his family died, and it’s the deep-seated regret that he couldn’t save them.
It’s just a nightmare, he tells himself. The demon has been annihilated.
It’s not as reassuring as he hoped it would be.
The nightmare occurs again the following night.
It’s only slightly different. Instead of being outside, he finds himself in the middle of the house. The walls are coated with his family’s entrails, and the ground is one large puddle of blood and intestines. His youngest sister crawls to him and asks why he didn’t save them.
The cut on his neck is deeper, and Tanjiro has a harder time explaining the injury to the girls of the Butterfly Mansion. He doesn’t lie to them, necessarily, just withholds bits of information that may paint a slightly different picture were they to know of them. He tells them he had a nightmare, and he gripped his sword in his sleep. When he woke up, he was startled and accidentally cut his neck.
That’s all. No lies. Tanjiro isn’t a liar.
Yet.
The odd look Zenitsu gives him during training doesn’t settle well in his stomach.
It happens again. And again. And again.
Tanjiro starts to dread sleeping. Every time he closes his eyes, he’s transported back to that snowy mountain, his entire family standing before him, pleading and begging and screaming. Guilt fills his lungs, a feeling he’s become familiarized with the more days he spends at Nezuko’s side —  a breathing reminder of his past and continuous failures.
There comes a point when he becomes used to jolting awake to a blade stuck in his neck and sweating in overwhelming dread for the remainder of the night. He strikes the same place every time, so the wound never has time to fully heal before it's reopened. Subsequently, the scar does not go unnoticed, and his vague explanations are becoming less and less believable.
He starts lying. He says there was a deadly bug on his neck, and when he was training, he tripped and struck himself. They were all accidents, he lies. Every single one of them.
Zentisu cornered him, once, and yelled at him for scaring both him and the girls. Insouke hasn’t said much, but Tanjiro knows he doesn’t express his emotions in the same way as everyone else. He knows soon, Inosuke’s strife will rear its head in a more obvious manner.
Sleep begins to evade him. His heart races when he lays a hand on his bed, and his exhaustion from the day disperses when he gently lays his blade by his side. Tanjiro changed scenery; he brought his blankets down on the floor in a makeshift mat and deposited his sword in the corner of the room. He thinks that this, though won’t rid him of his nightmares, will at least protect him from involuntary self-harm.
Nothing changes.
His unconscious body unravels the blankets and walks to the sword. Dead asleep, he grabs his sword and pierces his neck at the same time he does in his dream. He falls to the ground, awake, and holds his bleeding, pulsing vein in his hands. The afterimage of his family dies before him. The demon takes their precious, short lives.
Tanjiro doesn’t know what to do, so he does nothing. He cleans the sword of his blood and prays the dizziness from blood loss will leave before he is “woken” for breakfast and training.
Avoiding sleep takes his bad situation into something much, much worse.
He only did it once. He told himself: “What would happen if I didn’t allow my mind to destroy myself unconsciously?” It was meant to be an experiment.
During training, when Insouke gets cut from the bark of a tree, Tanjiro smells the distinct pungent scent of iron. And, even though it’s the middle of spring, he stands on a snowy mountain. He meets the gaze of his mother, her mouth frothing with red, clotted saliva and pupils blown wide despite the glaring brightness of the winter sun.
“Why did you leave us?” She begs, her hands reaching out to grasp Tanjiro’s coat. “You let the demon eat us.”
He doesn’t have time to think. This lower-rank demon will not taint his memories of his dead family. They are the only things that remain of them. The snow gets into his stinging eyes, and he brings his blade to his neck. He presses, and he hears a panicked scream.
“Tanjiro! What are you doing? Tanjiro!”
Zenitsu wrestles Tanjiro’s blade out of his tight grip, and Tanjiro falls to his knees. He can’t breathe. His wound seeps down his neck in a thick, warm tsunami. His scraping fingers do nothing to staunch the flow, and he tries desperately to save himself through Recovering Breathing. His friend grasps his shoulders and shouts: “Inosuke! Help me! He just tried to decapitate himself!”
Tanjiro just tried to decapitate himself.
He wasn’t asleep. Perhaps that allowed him to cut deeper than usual; his breathing became controlled, and his muscles tightened to make it all the way through his own throat. He still can’t quite catch his breath, and his life force steadily leaves him in dangerous waves.
Inosuke and Zenitsu carry him back to the Butterfly Mansion, oddly quiet in the concentration. Aoi and the young girls take him in immediately. They are worried, if not terrified, but care for him anyway. Tanjiro doesn’t die — in fact, he thinks he’s been closer to meeting his maker than he was when he cut his neck.
Still.
“What were you thinking? What were you doing?” Zenitsu keeps yelling, and Tanjiro doesn’t have an answer for him. He stares down at trembling hands, his chin straining against the fresh bandages protecting his wound. “All this time you’ve been doing this to yourself! Have you? Answer me, Tanjiro! Answer me!”
“I didn’t do it on purpose,” he says sullenly. Inosuke has made himself scarce, likely unable to comprehend Tanjiro’s apparent suicide attempt. “I’m not suicidal. I just… I’ve been having nightmares.”
Zenitsu doesn’t believe him. Tanjiro wonders if he even believes himself.
His blade only gets confiscated during the night. The girls believe his innocence when they see for themselves his sleep-walking suicides, and they appeal that Tanjiro cannot physically restrain himself until the damage is done. He remains a member of the Slayer Corps.
Inosuke doesn’t bring up the incident, not once, but he watches Tanjiro a little more closely than usual. Zenitsu remains angry with him, and his ire is only strengthened when it happens again.
They are assigned a mission to clear a demon terrorizing the families living on the lake. It has a special affinity for children under the age of ten. Preying on the weak is easy, a sign of weakness in itself. Tanjiro doesn’t know what the need is for all three of them to go there, but he does not question it.
He soon discovers the purpose when he’s face to face with the demon munching on a child’s bones. It only takes a second for his arms to lift the blade and slash.
Metal scrapes on metal, sending sparks flying and heat to break the snowy illusion. Tanjiro turns his head and comes face to face with two chipped blades stuck between his neck and his own sword. He releases the pressure, but still, Inosuke does not move.
“Sit this one, Conpachiro,” Inosuke says, his voice low and angry. “The Mugen Train runs through your mind. Chug, chug, chug! You are not dreaming anymore! That demon is dead! Dead!”
“I have—” Tanjiro doesn’t get a word in before Inosuke sucker punches him in the mouth. His jaw bursts with pain, and blood steadily drips from his lips.
“Fight, and you will die. Is this what you want? To die?” He breathes heavily out of his mouth, and his fist flexes, as if ready to send out another punch. “We are not worthless weaklings! Just leave this demon to us!”
Beside him, Zenitsu talks in his sleep. “Focus on saving yourself.”
Tanjiro knows why all three of them were sent.
Only two would be fighting the demon. One would be fighting himself.
Every time he sees the broken, half-devoured body of the young girl, he’s transported back to the mountain, back to the house, back to his dead family. When he gets a whiff of the blood being spilled, it’s the same.
He has a sick, twisting feeling in his gut. Deja vu. It’s the fight with the lower-rank demon, except everything has changed. The goal is not to kill himself with each “dream” he’s pulled into.
The goal is to stand in front of his family and beg for their forgiveness.
A snake sinks its teeth into his lungs, and he fights. He brings his blade to his neck every time, but Zenitsu or Inosuke is there to protect him. It prolongs the fight with the demon, but Nezuko pulls herself out of the box to participate. She protects the blindsides from the thunder and beast breathers as they stick their swords out to guard Tanjiro’s neck.
It must take him an hour, two hours, or three. But there comes a time when he stands before his family, throws his sword on the ground with as much effort as he can, and collapses onto his knees. He ignores the pounding of his heart and the thoughts in his head screaming at him to decapitate himself, that the lower-rank demon is winning, that all of his struggling and fighting will be for nothing.
He buries his head in the snow, and he says, “Forgive me.”
It only clears when Insouke roughly shakes him out of it, bringing him to the present. It doesn’t rid the grief tearing into his lungs, or the horrible, overriding guilt weighing him down.
But it does prevent his neck wound from reopening.
It’s not much. Tanjiro has the feeling that his nightmares aren’t over, that he’ll train tomorrow and he’ll be back on the snowy mountain. He knows that blood will drip from his pulsing vein.
But it’s a start. As long as his friends and sister are by his side, there may come a day when he no longer tries to kill himself. There may even be a time when he doesn’t throw himself into danger, where his remorse doesn’t drag his body into the nearest sacrifice play. It may be a pipe dream, yet a dream is better than nothing at all.

KNYAU Masterlist
Just a list of my KNY AU's and what to expect. This is technically a rehash of my first post, but I thought this would be an improvement from the extremely basic descriptions of that post. Plus, I have more AU's to share.
Sunlit Blossoms|Kamado Sibling Role Swap (🌸): Your standard Kamado role swap with Demon Tanjirou and Demon Slayer Nezuko. Instead of Tomioka, the siblings are found by Rengoku, and it leads to a cascade of butterfly effects.
Sunflowers and Thundering Fireworks|Ship Swap (💕): I need a better name for this because it is not strictly ships being swapped, but the main characters are swapped with their ship counterparts. Nezuko and Tanjirou are the tsugukos of Tengen and the Kochou sisters respectively, and Kanao is a Demon Slayer trying to turn her demonic adopted brother(Zenitsu) back into a human. Other characters are moved around as I pleased, not really based on ships.
Mirrored Sunset|Full Reverse AU (🔄): Nezuko and Tanjirou are switched, as are the demons and Slayers along with their leaders. Except Inosuke. He's still human, he just isn't allowed to fight. Hashira are Upper Moons, and vice versa. Michikatsu is a four hundred something criminally underpaid dad cursed to never die until the King of Demons(Ubuyashiki Kagaya in this AU) is dead, as punishment for what he did as a demon.
Tsugikuni-Kamado Swap (🌙): Tanjirou and Nezuko (along with a few others) are born in the Sengoku Era and the two siblings are among the first Breath Users. Meanwhile, Yoriichi and Michikatsu (plus others) are born in the Taisho Era, with one twin turned into a demon whilst the other becomes a Slayer to turn his brother back into a human. This AU has two versions:
Moon Princess, Chosen Sunlight: Tanjirou is the original Sun Breather, and Nezuko becomes Upper Moon One. Zenitsu is also the original Thunder Breather in this version.
Ashen Moonlight, Sun Goddess: Nezuko is the original Sun Breather, and Tanjirou becomes Upper Moon One. Zenitsu is dead, and Kanao is wondering where her husband went on his last mission.
Moonlit Butterfly|Kochou-Kamado Swap (🦋): Nezuko and Tanjirou are both Demon Slayer's, with Tanjirou being the (late) Sun Hashira, and Nezuko being the Flower Hashira. Meanwhile, Kanae is trying to return Shinobu to her human self after their family was slaughtered by a demon. Also, Sabito and Makomo are alive in this AU thanks to Tanjirou and Nezuko being at Final Selection.
Scattered Emders and Broken Hearts|Age/Fate Swap (🔥): This one came from TikTok. The Rengoku family took in Mitsuri when she ran away from home due to her being ostracized for her strength and appetite. Not long after, a demon attacks, leaving Mitsuri and Kyojurou the only survivors, the former becoming a demon. The Kamaboko Squad are Hashira, and most of the Hashira are rank and file Slayers with a few others being swapped out with important people in their lives who either died or took a different path in life.
Burning Ribbons|Shabana-Kamado Swap (🎀): Ume leaves work one day to discover that Gyutaro has been turned into a demon. She seeks out a cure, and one of her adversaries is the deadly Upper Moon Six duo. A pair of siblings Ume can't help but compare herself and her own brother to. There are some other swaps (i.e. I made Tengen's wives Hashira while Tengen is their Shinobi husband).
Miyuri Koarashi (❄️): my Demon Slayer OC, the Snow Hashira. I made her a few months ago, and I am still workshopping ideas a little.
If I think of any others I wanna share, I will add them! For now, I hope all the emojis are visible! If you have questions about an AU, just send me an Ask with either the emoji of the AU name. I will try to put up art for all of these! Have a great day/night/time you are existing in.

author’s note: hi! hope this is what you asked for :D thank you so much!
Tumblr media
The moment you heard a terrified voice, or rather the scream of a young swordsman with slightly burgundy hair, made your heart stop for a short moment. As soon as possible and with the last of your strength, you ran towards your partner, who at that moment was fighting against a young demon. With the Eighth Form, you froze the ground under your feet, thanks to which the front of the train stopped burning, and Akaza’s legs were trapped in the ice.
“Kyojuro!” Your loud scream made each of them turn towards you. The blood dripping from your right collarbone and the visible scabs on your forehead were a painful sight for your fiancé, but he was glad you were safe. After all, he was the one who asked you to annihilate the second demon, and he had a feeling that you would cope with this task. As soon as you shielded the three children and the Flame Pillar with your body, you made a slight amusement on the demon’s face.
“Is this another toy for me? King Muzan didn’t say anything about you... Are you a new addition to the Demon Slayer Corps?” His mocking voice only caused more anger in your body. You immediately took advantage of his moment of inattention.
Third Form: Snow rain
Your quick cuts with blue weapon quite effectively chased the demon away from the five of you, so you ran to the injured men as fast as possible, asking if everything was okay. After all, you were also a good medic, and you always enjoyed talking with Shinbu about healing people and potions against demons. Fortunately, apart from a few scratches and bruises, everyone was fine.
“Y/N, please take the boys and get out of here.” Kyojuro grabbed your left arm and you immediately shook your head.
“You know that I’ll never leave you.” You smiled softly and the man just rolled his both, shiny eyes.
Your moment was destroyed, of course, by a nervous demon that ran towards you. You instantly grabbed Zenitsu and Inosuke by their clothes, jumping to a safe distance. Rengoku did the same, but saved Tanjiro from a rampaging demon.
“Boys. Listen.” You turned to two teenagers, and they turned their attention to you. “I let you swear and destroy nature around us, we have to beat this freak.” You kind of made a joke, and in a way your voice seemed to be the most serious tone in the world. The two younger people just nodded. “However, if you feel threatened, please step back.” You added at the end and then moved towards Akaza using the other Forms of your Breathing.
Your cold snow and your fiancé’s hot flames were a perfect match. The Water Breathing along with yours made sharp needles of ice, while Zenitsu and Kyojuro were great at working on the fiery lightning. Inosuke has been an amazing support to all of you, straining his own hearing and physical strength.
“You two. You’d be nice demons.” At one point, your opponent turned to you and the second Hashira, and you just laughed.
“You know, hardly anyone would want to reduce their strength and intelligence. You, as demons, are quite weak and extremely stupid.” You spoke honestly, which only annoyed the monster; he focused on you once more. Luckily, your partner reacted and pushed him away again with his katana.
Your fight continued for a few more minutes; although time passed very fast, for the five of you passed slowly. You felt like you were in a time loop where the temperature and lighting changed every short second. Each of you bravely pushed the demon off the train, and you even cut off his arm. At some point, however, you and Kyojuro, seeing that the swordsmen younger than you were getting more and more tired, allowed yourself to use your techniques to push them away from the battlefield as well. Although Tanjirou and Inosuke have sworn they still have the strength to fight, you did not allow them to continue the battle by your side.
With your hot heart you fought side by side with the Pillar of Fire. At one point you decided to use your quite similar techniques which together created a kaleidoscope of colors and water vapor.
Fifth Form: Flame Tiger
Fifht Form: Snow Leopard
You managed to hurt the demon, however at one point you noticed a strange bloodlust in his both eyes, and the movement of his hand was enough to protect the second Pillar with you whole body again.
Suddenly you felt a strange feeling of chill that wasn’t caused by your Breathing Style. It was something... different, unknown, strange.
“... Y/N?”
“My dearest...?”
When the flames were gone, the snow melted and the dust fell to the dirty ground, three young swordsmen shouted your first or last name.
“I guess the demons aren’t that weak after all, are they?” He asked with a huge smirk and you just spat out some light blood from your mouth. Your lungs and head ached, and for the first time in a long time, your eyes, feet and stomach stung so much.
“You’re still weak. The sun is about to kill you, you stupid creature. For me, it’s pleasant, so relaxing. This is what makes us different from each other.” You whispered and the demon looked up. He quickly took his hand out of you and then ran towards the dark forest. Blond-haired immediately followed him, and the boys younger than you ran up to your body, slowly laying you down on the sand and damaged grass. “Boys, don’t cry. Next time you’ll beat him. I believe it.”
“... We’ll beat him together, Y/N-san.”
“You are definitely right.” You smiled. “Take care of Kyojuro, okay? He’s very sensitive, although he doesn’t look like that.” You whispered, and they just nodded. “I love you all very much. Eat a lot and grow up healthy.”
When your fiancé returned, his eyes were full of tears and blood. Your delicate body, or more specifically your head, lay on Tanjiro’s lap while Zenitsu covered your belly with his black-yellow haori. Inosuke didn’t know what to do at the very beginning, but then he took off his mask and touched your hair as gently as he could. They were still soft and shiny.
Kyojuro simply fell to his knees at the sight of it and crawled to you, screaming towards the sky for someone to take him, not you. He shouted that he should die, not you.
Definitely no one had ever seen the Flame Pillar like this before; always joyful, full of energy and love for people, the man was now a bundle of sadness, guilt and tears. And as he hugged your increasingly stiff body tightly, he felt a stronger and stronger feeling of hatred, anger and fear within him, and there was one sentence in his head that spoke of his desire to avenge you.

+.[AUTHOR'S NOTE]— this is the first multi-chapter fic I have written in almost 10 years. I wanted to write an accompaniment to my roleswap AU edit drawings and explain how I think the story would go.
+. [ EXCERPT ] — from chapter 2.
Tanjirou had always had an impressive sense of smell. He could use it to help people in town, identifying broken pots as being knocked over by a cat rather than a customer in the shop. He could track the scents of animals when they needed to find sources of food, identify what plants were safe to eat.
             Nezuko never had a sense of smell that strong. Her power was in sight, able to tell the emotions of her loved ones and act upon it. She always wanted to have a sense of smell as strong as her brother’s, because after all, twins were supposed to share. They were two halves of the same coin. Everything would be okay as long as they were together.
             The snow crunched underfoot. It acted as the only sound Nezuko could hear coming home from old man Saburo’s house in the village. He had insisted she stay the night, to be protected from demons who roamed the night. Hopefully her family wouldn’t be too worried that she hadn’t come home for dinner…
             There was no other sound beyond her footsteps and her own breath, mist forming bursts of steam from her parted lips. Something was wrong. Normally the birds would be singing at this time of day. Nezuko felt a pit form in her stomach, sitting heavy and cold there. She assured herself everything would be fine, she was just anxious over being gone from home for so long. Her gifts and earnings from the day’s sales would surely make up for her absence, and the coming New Year’s would be perfect.
             Coming up to the edge of their property Nezuko took a deep breath, ready to shout that she was home. She could imagine the eager cries of her siblings, their little running footsteps towards her. She could picture Tanjirou’s warm smile, and their mother’s relieved face. Tanjirou’s leg would be healed by now, surely, and they could prepare for the coming holiday tradition together…
             Her boots came to a sudden halt on the snow. Her nose was overwhelmed by the stench of copper, of decay. Nezuko’s breath quickened, eyes widening. In front of her house, sprawled out in a heap on the snowy ground… Was Tanjirou and Rokuta.

A Mission
Rengoku Kyojurou x Amiya Chiminosa
(OC)
I'll do another blurb, but this is just their first mission together.
That day, Amiya appeared at the start of her mission with the flame pillar, Kyojurou Rengoku. He looked at her, she was beautiful. Her cherry red hair was curly, like red spider lilies.
Her eyes were ice blue, pupils in the shape of snowflakes, surrounded by beautiful lashes. Although she had a measly scar apparent on her left eye.
Her body from what he could see, was gorgeous. Her cute thighs were plushy in a sense, he wanted to hold them. He could see her uniform was tight but perfectly fitting to her, and her cape! It was similar to his but it was blue and white, then snowflakes trailing at the bottom.
She was a quiet girl, focused, and very much apparent to the world around her. As he walked by her side when they left the property for the mission, he couldn't help but be drawn to the fact that she smelled faintly like vanilla and cinnamon. She was lovely.
He walked beside her and eventually spoke up, "So, snow pillar, I was informed that you defeated upper moon 5! That's quiet impressive!"
She gave him a side glance and then put her arms behind her back, "Please, just call me Amiya, and, yes I did defeat that creature. With the help of the mist Hashira, muichirou Tokito."
He was making progress! He now knew her name! Fantastic!
"Ah, Amiya-Chan, Tokito-San indeed is quiet powerful, although the young boy has his head in the clouds at times!"
She blinked when she heard that, and then continued walking by his side, "I suppose." Rengoku fidgeted with his fingers and Amiya took notice of this. Was he nervous?
His flame filled personality didn't give off the shy vibes, but perhaps anyone could be shy if they so wished it. She wouldn't admit it out loud, but he was charming. His golden orbs only showed kindness. Like that red haired boy, tanjirou.
Rengoku's smile was comforting to her, she thought she'd seen that flame haired male somewhere before, but she couldn't place it. As they ran side by side, she felt confident that this mission would be swift, proving to the master that there was no need for a second hashira to attend.
They came across a village, the demon in a full bound rage, smashing building upon building. Rengoku drew his sword but she was already running ahead of him. What are you doing!! Follow her!! He thought to himself and followed her protecting her flank.
She was almost too fast for him, she drew her sword and jumped up, leaving him on the ground to just watch, he was frustrated, but let her do her thing.
"Snow Breathing, First Form."
She drew the demons attention and swung her sword right into his neck, slashing it off with ease, the demons body turning blue at the base of the neck and then cracking until it fell to pieces on the ground.
"Poisonous snow storm."
She landed on her feet and sheathed her sword again. Rengoku's jaw dropped at her swift but powerful strength.
"Amiya!! That was amazing!!" He shouted, She looked back at him and rubbed her neck, "T-Thanks." He ran up to her and started waving his hands excitedly.
"Um- perhaps we should, head back to the corps property eh?" She said before he soon started talking over her a little too much.
"Right!!" He said and they made sure the villagers were okay before taking their leave. Rengoku only hoped that they would slowly become friends. He got along with everyone, but her? She was beautiful.
He wanted to know more about her, and he hoped he would with time. They made their way back to the property and he walked her to the gate.
"I live in the harsh mountains, I don't think it would be very smart for you to exactly, walk me home Rengoku-San." She spoke with a bit of laughter.
"Right!! Um- maybe we'll be paired up on another mission soon!" He boasted and crossed his arms over his chest. Amiya nodded, "Of course, I'll- see you when I see you Rengoku-San."
She said before walking down the path to start her way home.
"Farewell Amiya!! Be safe!!" He shouted and then booked it to tengen's estate to tell him how the mission went.
Snow Breathing Technique Guide
First Form: Poisonous Snow Storm
User jumps high from behind opponent and slashes weak spot, following the slash, small drips of wisteria and freezing water attach to opponents neck, which causes hypothermic symptoms and loss of blood flow to vital organs, which can cause explosions within arteries. Leading to apparent death.

Demon Slayer Imagine:
Imagine being a demon slayer, helping Tanjiro along with Zenitsu and Inosuke, and Being an entire new breathe style.
Breathe:
Breathe of Snow:
First Style: Blizzard.
   User lets out a series of quick, yet irregular slashes that cut and freeze their opponent.
-Second Style: Snow Angel.
   User swings their sword upwards then downwards in a quick succession, slicing their opponent vertically in half.
-Third Style: The Bite of Frost.
    User gets close to their enemies and let lose a series of quick stabs.
-Fourth Style: Snowball.
    User spins their body, along with their sword, around to send out a series of circular slices while in the air.
-Fifth Style: Delicate snowflake melting away.
   A series of slices that beheads their opponents in a painless manner, letting their opponent feel the warmth of the sun.
-Sixth Style: Diamond Dust.
   While up in the air, User can send down a series of small, yet quick and relentless slashes towards their opponent.
-Seventh Style: Waltz of the Snowflakes.
   User move their body in a dance like, coordinated manner while dodging their opponent and using one, continuous slice. Works well when in large groups but is rather slow.
-Eighth Style: Avalanche.
   User quickly runs in a straight line while sending out a series of arched slashes.
-Ninth Style: Frozen Lake.
   User moves their sword, starting from the ground, in an upward motion, Slicing in a figure eight form.
-Tenth Style:  Frozen Heart.
   User sends out six quick and devastating crossed and diagonal slices that mimics the vague shape of a snowflake, starting from the center of their opponent’s chest. It then ends with them decapitating their opponent.
Don’t really having any examples of the style. :P
~~~~
I want to add that when you do the breathe style, the area around you gets very cold and only the people around you can feel it.
You never get cold.
Though you love the warmth the sun brings.
Like a cat, you like to nap in the sun.
You’re Nichirin Blade is light blue color.
~~~
You had an older brother, who was the Pillar of Ice.
The breathe style was like yours but more harsh and deadly.
Breathe of Snow is more gentle.
~~~~
You and your brother were fighting an upper moon.
The demon killed your brother.
In your sadness came rage and you killed the upper moon.
Using the breathe of ice, you were able to kill him, but not being trained on the breathe style before, it destroyed your vocal cords.
Making you mute.
(I wanna add that you now wear bells. It helps other know your around.)
Tanjiro and the others learn sign language to help communicate with you or they become very patient with you when you write down what you want to say.
~~~~
You’re demon slayer mark is little snowflake on your forehead.
~~~~~
Your brother’s estate is like a winter wonderland.
breath of ice
Tumblr media
Synopsis: How the Kamaboko squad would react to a reader trying to master breath of the ice
Pairing: Kamado Tanjirou / Zenitsu Agatsuma / Inosuke Hashibira x GN!reader (they/them)
A/N: Ah yes, the iconic trio of the Demon Slayer series. I’m very happy that you requested this! I tried to get creative when thinking about how this breathing style would work, so enjoy !
TW: Light swearing
Tumblr media
Boy be prepared to get bombarded with a series of different questions about this breathing style of yours
“Did you develop it on your own or did it stem from one of the originals?” “That form was so cool! What is it called?” “How do you even manage to keep this hidden for so long?”
Would definitely ask to come up with new combat techniques by combining his water breathing with your ice breathing
He also thinks that it’s just a generally cool style
Not super out there, but it has its own unique traits that make it unique
Oh he totally makes a lot of corny jokes about fire and ice too
“Haha! Get it cause- I’m fire and, you’re ice?” “Tanjirou, I love you, but what the fuck was that.”
Your number one supporter when it comes to training
This breathing style requires a separate kind of training so your body can adjust to the cold and such, and he’s very supportive on that
Will also prepare snacks for you after training
Ice skating is a must
He probably gets super nervous about it at first, but you’re there to guide him, and it actually becomes very fun!
But anywho, Tanjirou is just a super loving and caring guy who feels very lucky to have you. And you have a cool breathing style! Which is even better
Tumblr media
Would be hella confused honestly
“Ice breathing? I never heard of it. That’s weird.”
He probably freaks out a bit upon seeing you use it, getting all paranoid that he’ll “freeze to death” or something along those lines
Zenitsu also probably does more research on it and tries to learn of the origins about it
You have a habit of making little snowflakes and blowing them towards him, which makes him all giggly and giddy
Also feels safer around you during combat
He knows how capable you are, and with you around he feels slightly less nervous when going out to fend of flesh eating demons
Only for a bit before he gets chased down and you have to save him from fucking dying
Winters are also more fun with you around
He enjoys seeing you get all happy when you’re out in the lovely winter snow, as Zenitsu knows how much winter means to you
It is after all, related to your breath style, one way or another
Also, dance with him in the snow, it’s totally worth it in the end
Zenitsu also tries to make frozen treats for you since he feels like you’d enjoy it due to your breathing style
Only before he absolutely bombed the kitchen, making you having to help him out make some pretty good ice cream mochi
Another memorable moment honestly, which is very worth treasuring
Tumblr media
Deadass thinks you’re making this shit up
Not even joking, he thinks you’re just fooling with him
“I don’t believe you.” “But I’m being serious—“ “No.”
But after seeing your kickass style and how graceful you are, oh he was head over heals
Refuses to acknowledge how cool you are in battle with your breath style because it will deflate his ego by a landslide
He would probably ask you to use your ice breathing forms on him so he can “adjust to the cold”
This is just one of his lousy ass excuses to see you just dance around while you’re performing your ice breathing tricks
Instantly regretted it when he got wiped on the floor, but refused to admit defeat
“Hey are you okay—“ “I AM TOTALLY FINE!!!”
Secretly looking out for you just to be sure you don’t hurt yourself, since Inosuke knows the different kinds of repercussions that come with this breathing technique
Immediately scolds you when you get seriously hurt, but quickly tries to pass it off as belittling when you point out him caring for you
He’s so stubborn it’s amazing
Tries to mimic your battle positions whenever he sees you using your style
He just thinks it’s super cool alright?
-
Overall, all three of these boys would love you no matter what. They would try to help you with finding out the origins of your breathing style and how it came to be, but it doesn’t get in the way of your relationship <3
Your eyes flew open as you sat up quickly. You were sweating up a storm. Your hands flew to your head and your eyes closed. It felt as if you had ran face first into a tree. You tried to remember what could have happened to make your head feel like that. Opening your eyes you looked around the room. Your eyes widened and you gasped when you saw Tanjirou sitting on the bed looking at you. His eyes showed that of worry. You shuffled back as your memory came back.
-
You glared down at your bloodied hands. You had tried to escape through a window but found out that they were reinforced with mental bars. You had sighed in frustration before punching the wall several times out of anger. You went to punch something again, when Tanjirou burst in the door. He was breathing heavy and his expression was wild. You panicked and his your hands behind your back.
“(Name), what happened, Darling? I smell blood.” Tanjirou took a step forward which causes you to take yet another step back. His eyes soften and he holds his hands out infront of him as if trying to calm a wild animal. The thought pissed you off and you clenched dug your nails in your palms. You glared down at your feet as hot tears of anger bubbled over your bottom eyelids. He took that as a sign to begin slowly approaching you, carefully. Once you could see his feet, you looked up at him with hatred. His eyes widened as your threw your fist and punched him in the nose. He stumbled back and clutched his nose that was now bleeding.
You pushed him back out of the way and ran for the door. Once you reached the door, you took a right and scrambled down a short hallway which lead to a larger room, probably some type of family room. You realized he had you locked in a medium-sized cabin. Panicking, you stopped and quickly examined the room. At the other end of the large room was a door with a small window that showed the outside. You smiled, and began to run to the door. Behind you was Tanjirou who had recovered his shock and was running after you.
Slamming open the door, the door you waste no time stepping on the small porch. You had almost touched the freshly fallen snow when an two arms grabbed you by the chest and began to drag you back into the house. You struggled and screamed as he yanked you back into the house. “NO, NO, LET ME GO. YOU MONSTER. LET ME GO. PLEASE, PLEASE,” you cried and cried. He hauled you back into the room, threw you on the ground and shut the door. Crawling on you to straddle your waist, he held your hands to the ground as you struggled and thrashed around.
Tanjirou gritted his teeth, “Darling, please, please calm down. It’s okay, no ones going to hurt you I promise, I’ve got you. You’re safe now.” He smiled down at you. Glaring at him, you gritted your teeth and cursed him out. “You’re delusional, and fucking stupid and pathetic.” His face shrunk back into a horrified expression before falling into a disappointed but angry expression. “Darling, I didn’t want to do this but you leave me no choice. I’m sorry, Love. This might hurt,” he stared down at you in pity. That shut you up real quick. Your eyes widened in fear and you begun to stutter in question. He closed his eyes, and bent his head backwards. Begun to thrash again, and began to scream and cry. “No, no, Tanjirou pl-.” He jerked his head forward, making it hit yours and you were out cold.
-
Tanjirou sniffled and perked up when he noticed you were awake. His eyes were blood shot and there were tear trails on his cheeks. He scooted to you, and took your bandaged hands in his on. Your breathing sped up and fear consumed you. You began to shake and you flinched when he touched you. His expression shriveled into sadness. “I’m sorry, Darling. I didn’t want to hurt you. You left me no choice. You were going to leave! I tried to calm you down, but you wouldn’t listen.” He pleaded with you as he held your hands gently. Tears began to fall from your eyes. “Darling, please forgive me. I love you so much. So so so much. I can’t take it if your mad at me forever. Please, my love.” You looked away.
“If you loved me, you’d let me go.” His body froze in shock. He smiled sadly at you. “Darling, I can’t let you leave. It’s too dangerous out there. I can protect you in here. You’ll never have to worry about anything. I’m sorry, My love. I can’t let you go, you can’t leave me.” He pulled your hands to his face and kissed the busted knuckles. “I promise, you’ll love it here. And eventually you’ll love me. It’s okay if you don’t right now, I understand. Eventually, you’ll realize that everything I do, I do for you. I love you so much and I’ll protect until the day I die. We’ll be together forever. Me and you.” He moved his hands to the sides of your face and kissed your forehead gently. Rubbing your temples, he smiled down at you.
You were his, and he had to protect you. If that meant keeping you locked away forever, so be it.
This is really short, but I don’t think it’s that bad. :) Thanks for requesting. <3 - Maven
Sorry | Ft. Giyuu Tomioka
Word Count : 1095
Tumblr media
No! Please dont hurt her! She's my sister! Nezuko doesnt eat humans! "
The (h/c) woman cackled, not believing at what the boy was saying a demon not eating a human? What kind of joke is that? It may have not eaten any yet but that doesnt mean that it will not do so in the future.
" Do you know how foolish you just sounded? And first of all, arent you a demon slayer? Why is a slayer protecting a demon? Even if she is your sister, this goes against the very reason the Corps exist! As a demon slayer your job is to kill demons! " The woman said as she prepared to slash her nichirin blade into the pink eyed demon's neck
" No! "
Before she even had the chance to do it, she immediately sensed an upcoming attack and dodged it while still holding the colar of the demon.
" What was that for Tomioka-san? " She growled, as she eyed her fellow Pillar.
" Release the demon (Y/N) " The Water Pillar uttered with the same expression as always.
Her smile turned into a frown as she eyed the blue eyed man warrily, " Dont tell me your planning on protecting her? "
" Ahh! " The demon whimpered in pain, as her grip on her collar tightened
" Stop! I dont care who you are dont hurt my sister! " The supposed brother raged and ready to swing his sword at her before  the other man stopped him and said " I'll take care of her. "
" Are you fucking kidding me right now Giyuu? " She fumed.
She was met with no answer, as she saw him make an attack stance.
She made a defensive stance, as she readied her body to take the impact of his attack.
She cant defeat him, their strength is almost equal and almost all of their few spars ended in a tie. Not that they were giving it their best shot either.
However with that being said, she's not just gonna let him break the rules.
A clash between the two pillars occured. With the man clearly having the advantage, over the woman who has an extra baggage on her hand.
" Snow Breathing : Sixth Form, Advancing Snowflake " She muttered as she blocked his attacks launching herself on the air, and spinning horizontally.
By his attacks she can tell that he isnt planning on hurting her, not that she wanted to either.
The fight continued on with Tanjirou, not being able to intervene because of his injuries and the fact that they were too strong. Stronger than Rui, the lower moon 5 demon that he fought earlier.
It ended with the messenger crow, relaying orders of bringing the demon and the boy back to the headquarters.
" I will not let this matter rest Tomioka. " She grumbled, unwillingly letting the demon enter the ridicolous box.
--
" And if ever the demon named Nezuko, kills or attacks a human thereby Giyuu Tomioka, Sakonji Urokadaki, and Tanjiro Kamado will commit seppuko as punishment. "
What the fuck? The look on (Y/N)'s face was indiscernible, veins popping on her face and the other pillars had to do a double take to see that she can actually make such a scary face.
She looked at Giyuu who was standing on the side by himself, and she just wanted nothing but to punch that stoic and unchanging face.
How dare he? After all the lives that have been sacrificed in order to protect his- how could he give away his life like that? She couldnt accept it, how he was bargaining his life just to let a demon live. And master Urokadaki? How can they do such a thing, when they were at the forefront of suffering  caused by those damn creatures?
And ofcourse her fellow pillars, didnt approve of that either. Not that she was suprised, she also disagreed and felt that the whole situation is so idiotic and nothing but driven because of empathy and denial.
Atleast not until, the wind pillar pulled off his aggresive stunt. She was horrified when Sanemi, stabbed the demon girl and forced her to come out.
Shinazugawa's blood stained the floor, as he continued on provoking the poor girl. Contrary to your expectation, the demon did not bite back nor attack him which suprised you all the more since he is a marechi just like you.
It was the brother who headbutted and challenged, the wind pillar that amused you the most. Still, holding resentment towards him and the others.
The meeting was concluded, with oyakata-sama letting them get away with it and shinobu taking them to her abode.
(Y/N) glared at Giyuu, one last time before she retreated.
--
" Hic-- Hic how could he do this to me?? " A drunk (Y/N) cried as she hugged the mist pillar
" Can you believe it? After all we've been through, and how he ignored me like a prick for all this time. And now he's defending this random pair of siblings, over sabito, his sister and i???!! " She agonized
After a particularly stressful afternoon, the pillars decided to gather and drink their frustrations out. (Y/N) usually avoided these kinds of gatherings, as she herself know that she gets drunk easily.
But here she is, in all her glory. The image that she had, in the hearts of her colleagues uttery destroyed.
" How can he do this?? And master too?? Why are they ganging up on me?? " She sobbed her snot and tears, all over the poor boy's uniform
" I dislike Tomioka-san a little more today. " Shinobu said, watching the mess her friend became because of him
" Yes! How can he make such a beautiful lady cry? How unflomboyant! " The sound pillar added
" Wait (Y/N) who's Sabito and ? " Unable to contain his curosity the flame pillar asked
" Hicc Hicc Sabito- WAHHH " Startling all the pillars she wailed like a baby
" Woman stop crying already goddamnit! " Sanemi snapped, earning him a glare from Muichiro
" I-If Sabito is still here he would have never let him treat me like this. "
" There there, (Y/N)-chan im sure that if your Sabito sees you like this he will be sad right? Please stop crying! " The love pillar tried to console her
Suddenly she stopped crying, while in a daze she saw her deceased friend smiling at her.
" Sabito? "
And then she fell asleep.
Not knowing that all along, outside he had been listening since the very beginning.
Trying to hold back his tears, he whispered.
" Im sorry.. "
Fragile
Tanjirou is barely conscious, he can't open his eyes, but he's aware that he's fallen on the ground, all over the snow, after the fight against the demon. He can't move, he's freezing and he really needs to stand up and find shelter if he wants to survive.
Focusing on his own breathing has never been more difficult; the air is so cold he feels like it's hurting his lungs.
He gets worried when hears footsteps; his sense of smell is not working due to the weather at the moment so he's not sure if it's an enemy or not.
Suddenly, he's floating, no, he's not... Someone's carrying him. Trying to open his eyes hurts and he passes out completely before he can do it.
The next time he manages to open his eyes a little he is aware that he's in a cave, but he's not that cold anymore, he's covered with a couple of blankets and someone has him on their lap. Before he loses consciousness again, he nuzzles against a warm chest.
Tanjirou finally opens his eyes; he's getting better, mostly thanks to the blankets and the bonfire. He's on the ground, but someone put even more sheets and clothes so he's not that uncomfortable.
A gasp escapes his mouth suddenly and he panics for a couple of seconds before he notices the wooden box next to him and opens it only to make sure Nezuko is there, completely asleep.
Too late he realizes he's not alone and his eyes try to focus on the shadow at the other corner of the cave, standing a little ominously.
When they step closer to the light, Tanjirou tries to get up and find his katana, but it's more than obvious that his body is not ready to move again.
"You know I would've killed you if I really wanted to, Tanjirou," of course Akaza remembers his name. "You're exhausted at the moment and probably haven't eaten anything in a while, right? Actually, even if you were completely fine you know you wouldn't last long against me."
Sadly, he's right. Although it means he must've another purpose and Tanjirou is not sure he's going to like it.
"Then why am I still alive?"
"I enjoy fighting, especially when my opponents are at their best. When we see each other again I need you to be prepared."
Coming from him sounds perfectly logical, although Tanjirou has the feeling that Akaza has something else in mind. He's not being completely honest.
"So... You got me here and started a fire so I don't die from the cold," Tanjirou mumbles, although the upper moon three seems to understand him because he nods. "Thank you."
Akaza grimaces at that and he doesn't know why, but it makes Tanjirou chuckle. The demon looks so offended at someone being grateful to him that Tanjirou can't help but find it really amusing.
"I'll bring you food."
"Wait–"
It's too late, the upper moon is gone. Now it'd be the perfect time to try to escape, but Tanjirou's body doesn't seem to cooperate. Besides, he's not entirely sure where he is.
When Akaza comes back with a couple of bento boxes, Tanjirou narrows his eyes at him.
"Where did you get that?"
"Don't worry, I didn't hurt any of your precious, weak humans," Akaza assures him, sitting next to Tanjirou before handing him one box. "There's a town nearby, well... nearby for me... It's one of those places that is more busy at night. A man was trying to sell a lot of these... I just took a couple."
"You stole from him."
"He didn't even notice!" Akaza huffs, rolling his eyes.
Tanjirou sighs, realizes he's starving and makes a silent promise to find that man and give him money.
Then he starts eating and doesn't notice Akaza has been watching him until he takes the second bento box.
"Do you want some?"
"You must know demons don't eat human food. I find it tasteless."
Again, Tanjirou finds his expressions hilarious so he allows himself to laugh, he needs it. Akaza looks almost outraged.
"Are you laughing at me?"
"No," Tanjirou chuckles. Akaza growls, but for some reason it seems like he's not actually mad.
He feels the demon leaning closer, but he doesn't try to move away. Tanjirou can't actually escape, besides Akaza is right, he would've killed him already if that was what he wanted.
When he finishes eating, Akaza takes one of his hands and looks at it almost with fascination. He turns it around and runs one of his fingers over Tanjirou's palm, noticing how rough it is due to years of training and hard work.
"You're so fragile," Akaza comments, almost like he's offended again. "All humans are so weak. Your body is so easy to break."
That could almost pass as a threat... But the demon looks actually curious, almost puzzled by it... There's no actual venom in his words, just genuine confusion.
"You were human once."
"I don't remember."
Tanjirou sighs, feeling compassion spreading inside his heart, but for once part of him thinks like he shouldn't, especially after what Akaza did to Kyojuro, even though the flame hashira managed to survive.
"We are fragile and we can die easily," Tanjirou admits. "But we're also very strong when we want to."
Akaza doesn't argue with him, instead he puts his hands together to compare them.
"You're very tiny," he comments in a way that makes Tanjirou roll his eyes this time, because the difference is actually not that much. "You... must be getting better because you feel warm."
"I feel better," Tanjirou nods, trying not to smile when he mumbles: "Thanks to you."
However, this time Akaza doesn't grimace, he just pulls Tanjirou closer.
"You need to sleep."
And Tanjirou does, because he's still too tired to do anything else.
***
He's gone in the morning; Tanjirou gets his stuff, eats the last bento box makes sure Nezuko is alright and heads to the nearest town.
Turns out Akaza was right, it was not that close from where they were, at least for a human who's too tired to move faster.
He pays for a room, buys more food from the man who was probably selling those bento boxes, leaves him extra money and stays for the night.
At midnight, a sound wakes him up; the door slides open and Tanjirou is ready to fight when he recognizes the demon in front of him.
"What are you doing here?" He asks, curious as he goes back to lie on the futon.
Akaza kneels in front of him.
"I just wanted to make you sure you were alright."
"I am much better," Tanjirou admits, allowing himself to relax and smile at him.
Akaza nods, but sits on the floor before looking back at him. He touches Tanjirou's cheek once before getting up and heading towards the entrance again.
"I'll see you again... soon."
"Goodbye, Akaza," Tanjirou says. He's grateful, he truly is, but he also has the feeling that he got himself in so much trouble out of the sudden.
The best (and kindest) way possible people could describe Tomioka Giyuu was that he was like water itself.
Like water, he adapted easily and quickly, His movements were fluid and continuous, unstoppable in its actions like a waterfall spilling over a cliff. His voice was baritone, smooth, but held power underneath the surface. He flowed through any obstacle in his life as best as he could, and that rang true even to your relationship.
While he thought that he mostly went with the flow, It’s been an entire week since your fight, and it’s been an entire week since he’s talked to you.
Admittedly, you two have fought before—minor little squabbles where he always took it upon himself to be the first to apologize. He didn’t like the idea of you upset, but now was different. This was probably the biggest fight he’s ever had with you, and as much as he loves you, he didn’t want to be the one to make the first move this time.
One moment, he came home to you, tired and ready to go straight to your shared room and drop dead for the next few hours, but in the next, the two of you were saying things that neither of you meant, arguing over something that should have been a simple thing.
That night, the fight was so big that he ended up taking refuge in the butterfly estate.
Well, given the injuries he got in his last mission, he was already going to go the next morning, but he was hoping to see you and rest first before anything else.
Breathing out a sigh, he sits up from the cold hospital bed he’s been sleeping on for the past week, and reflexively brings a hand to the bandages around his stomach. He never did like fighting with you. It always left a heavy weight on his chest, and it always occupies his mind, resulting in him fighting slightly sloppier than he’d like.
Maybe he should apologize? There was a pillar meeting later on in the day, so if he wanted to, he could. He usually did, within the day, but this was the longest the two of you were actively mad at each other. The two of you fought, but last night was the first time the two of you fought for that long.
But for once, he didn’t want to. For once, he wanted you to make the first move, and maybe, just this once he should.
Giyuu breathes out a heavy sigh. He’ll just think about that later.
Tumblr media
When Giyuu arrived at the Ubuyashiki Garden, he was thrown off by the fact that you weren’t there. He was further surprised when the Oyakata-sama came in, and there was still no sign of you.
Between the both of you, you were the early bird, and would usually be one of the first who arrived, if you didn’t come dragging him by his haori.
Your absence was rubbing him off the wrong way. He’s missed you a lot so he was really hoping to see you today, even if the two of you got into a fight.
While his facade was as perfectly emotionless and stoic as ever, his mind was spiralling deeper into worry. Why weren’t you here? Were you that mad? Were you so pissed that you chose to forgo the meeting because of him?
(Unbeknownst to him, his fellow pillars were looking at him. His face didn’t change, but everyone could see his worry clear as day.)
Oyakata-sama dismisses the meeting after a while, and everyone bows, leaving right after they were assigned with new missions and patrols. Giyuu only had to patrol his region in the evening...maybe he should go look for you?
On his way back to his estate to search for you, he passes by the butterfly estate and sees Tanjirou and his friends helping the girls hang the sheets. Well, it was more like Tanjirou was helping, while Zenitsu and Inosuke quarreled.
Tanjirou immediately notices Giyuu, raising a hand in greeting. He quickly hangs the bedsheet in his hand to rush over to the raven haired man. “Tomioka-san! How are you?”
“Hello Tanjirou.” Giyuu responds as the young demon slayer stands in front of him, adding, “I’m fine.”
“I’m glad! You seem distressed though, is everything alright? Are you worried about (F/N)-san?”
Giyuu doesn’t even try to hide it, simply nodding and feeling a little shy from how Tanjirou could easily read him. “She wasn’t at the meeting earlier. She’s usually there first.”
He places a hand over his chin and nods. “Oh, of course she’s not.”
That was news to him. “What? Do you...know where she is?”
“No…” Tanjirou responds, but his face immediately crumples in on itself, his eyeballs rolling back into his head. Both of them knew he was lying, but Giyuu still feels a little bad that he’s using the boy’s honest and earnest personality to his advantage.
Regardless, He gives the younger boy a look that has Tanjirou looking away abashedly. “I don’t think I’m supposed to say anything…”
“Tanjirou…”
It doesn’t take much for him to cave, and he sighs before telling Giyuu what he knows. “She went out for a mission. I thought you knew, but—” He cuts himself off when his nose detects panic and worry, the smell nearly taking over his senses. “—Ah! But don’t worry, Giyuu-san! This is (F/N)-san, I’m sure she’ll be fine!”
Oh, Giyuu knew you were strong and capable, but with a job as dangerous and unpredictable as theirs, so many things could happen. Right now, he wanted nothing more than to curse his pride. He should have approached you right after, he shouldn’t have let this go on longer than it should have.
The best thing he could do right now was wait for you, and apologize as soon as he sees you.
He hopes he gets the chance.
“You’re right. She’ll be fine.”
Tanjirou wasn’t sure who Giyuu was trying to convince.
Tumblr media
As the Snow Hashira, people expected you to be cold, stern, harsh, and while it’s not completely wrong, you were one of the kindest out of all the pillars. You had a heart of gold that shone through and had a smile that could warm even the coldest of hearts. It made it easier for people to approach you despite the initial impression, but everyone found it ironic that the Snow Pillar was one of the warmest, kindest, most genuine slayer from the bunch.
You were proud of your work as a demon slayer—saving lives, and killing the very thing that brought you and so many others so much pain—but the fact that you and your friends walked hand in hand with death was… well, it was a lot to take in.
Death is, and never will be something you think you’ll get used to. It was always painful—knowing that you could have done something to help, or knowing that their death was beyond your power. Whether you liked it or not, it was one of those things that just happened. No matter how much you wanted cheat death, there was no stopping it—
Which was one of the main reasons why you got so mad at Giyuu when he came home to you all bruised and bloody.
Instead of going to the butterfly estate, it was normal that he’d come home straight to you after a particularly challenging mission, in which cases you’d do basic first aid before rushing him to Shinobu. There wasn’t any problem really. There were moments where you would come home to him in a similar state, where he’d be the one giving you first aid, and you were happy he trusted you enough to show you his vulnerable side.
But you were just so painfully reminded of how you became a demon slayer, of how your family sacrificed themselves for your escape. You could see that Giyuu was barely thinking of himself, often throwing himself in harm’s way just to get a mission done.
Seeing someone you love give such little importance to himself made you both sad and angry. It rubbed you the wrong way, and you couldn’t help but burst and get mad at him. The fight escalated quickly, and both of you said things you didn’t mean.
Looking back, it was a little stupid. You reacted irrationally and immaturely when you could have talked it out with him like an adult. You acknowledged that it was mostly your fault, and that you should have been the one to apologize, but you just couldn’t admit your mistake, seeing as you still agreed with how reckless he was being.
So you avoided him, devoting nearly all of your time to your missions.
A few days after you started avoiding him, Oyakata-sama sent for you and assigned a mission that needed an entire day of travel. There was a group of Tsuchinoto’s that weren’t doing too well, and it required you to dispose of the demon and help them in any way you can. While you took the job with no qualms, you were a little apprehensive. You and Giyuu still hadn’t made up, and this mission required at least three days, and that’s taking into account if everything went smoothly, which things rarely did.
It didn’t sit right for you to leave without seeing him, so the morning you planned to leave, you dropped by the Butterfly Estate to see him. You haven’t talked to him for five full days now, and while he didn’t talk a lot, you really missed his company.
You find him sleeping in one of the rooms. A small part of you was hoping that he’d be awake so you could talk a bit, maybe even apologize before you left, but he didn’t even move at all when you opened the door. Considering how much of a light sleeper he was, it was a little surprising that he didn’t stir at all when you sat by the edge of his bed beside him, but he was still recovering from the injuries of his previous battle, so it can hardly be helped. In fact, it worked in your favor, because he didn’t wake up when you pressed a small kiss to his temple.
Softly, you put your forehead against his and press a hand against his cheek, whispering as lightly as you could. “I’ll be going now, but I’ll come back. I love you.”
He was clearly unconscious, but the way he leans closer to your touch made your heart melt and butterflies flood your stomach. Even when you were supposed to be fighting, he could still make you feel this way.
It figures. Snow always did melt quicker in water.
You smile and push the stray hairs away from his face. You let your hand caress his cheek as you memorize his features as best as you could, leaving the room once you've realized that you need to go soon. Turning, you take one last look at Giyuu before closing the door as softly as you could—and coming face to face with dark red eyes.
You let out a small yelp, too late to realize that it was only Tanjirou smiling up at you in confusion.
“Tanjirou-kun! You surprised me!”
“Sorry about that (F/N)-san. I was on my way to check on Nezuko.” He laughs a little bashfully, rubbing the back of his neck. He looks back up at you though when he realizes whose room you were coming out of. “What are you doing coming out of Giyuu-san’s room? Is there something wrong?”
Was there something wrong? Well technically there was, as you two were avoiding each other, but you brush off his concern, finding it a little awkward to explain. “Oh, no! Not at all, I just wanted to see him before leaving for a mission.”
“A mission?”
You nod. “Yes, I’m not sure of all the details yet, but it might take a while.”
“Oh, I see! Please take care (F/N)-san!”
“Thank you Tanjirou-kun, I will. Stay out of trouble alright?”
“Will do!” Tanjirou was quick to deliver a salute, making you giggle despite your heavy heart. Seeing one of the Kamado siblings always made you smile - they were too adorable for their own good.
As you were about to step out the hall, you suddenly remember something.“Ah, by the way Tanjirou-kun, Giyuu was asleep so I didn’t want to bother him, but can you not tell him that I dropped by?”
The young boy seems to be thrown off by your weird request, and tries to question you as politely as he could. You were still his superior after all, and a person he deeply respected. “Eh? Not tell Giyuu-san?”
“Yes.”
Tanjirou was apprehensive—he couldn’t lie for his life after all—but you must have your reasons, so instead, he resolved to just do his best. He was the eldest son! He could do this! “Oh, okay then, I’ll do my best (F/N)-san!”
“Wonderful! Thank you, Tanjirou-kun.”
Tumblr media
When Tanjirou finally cracked and told Giyuu where you were, the Water Pillar waited as patiently as he could. He was known for his patience, and for his go with the flow attitude, but when it came to you, he wanted nothing more than to just rush by your side. When he discovered your mission, he was practically itching to run all the way over to you. You leaving for your mission before he nor you could apologize sat terribly in his gut. The only thing tying him down to his post was his sense of duty. He still had missions to attend to here, and unless someone could cover for him, or unless it was a terrible emergency, he couldn’t leave.
It wasn’t that he didn’t trust you as a fellow pillar, but as your boyfriend, he was worried for you. Your fight left a horrible taste in his mouth, and he could never forgive himself if that was the last moment he had with you.
So instead, he sat patiently, going through routine and accomplishing his patrols and missions dutifully.
It wasn’t until a few days later when he learned of what happened to your party.
It was a lower moon, and while that would have been an easy job for you, you had five other slayers to protect and worry about. His crow reported that everyone was quickly brought to the Butterfly Estate, and that was the last thing he needed to hear before bolting from his estate and out to Shinobu’s.
“Where is she?”
Shinobu turns as Giyuu bursts through the doors, her smile as saccharine as ever. “Ah, hello to you too Tomioka-san!”
“Kochou, where is (F/N)?” Giyuu looked about ready to tear down the whole place to look for you, and Shinobu knew that. Regardless, Shinobu’s smile never wavers as she continues to tease him.
“Ara, are you worried about (F/N)-chan?” She continues, but for the first time, it eases him. Shinobu loved pushing his buttons, but she knew when to stop. If she was being like this, you should be alive, at the very least. She doesn’t motion or signal Giyuu to follow her, but he was quick to walk after the Insect Pillar, moving as quick and as fluid as flowing water.
Shinobu stops at a door, and slides it open to reveal you awake, sitting up on the bed. You seemed to be a little bruised and worse for wear with all the bandages and discolored patches of skin, but you were alive and you were breathing, and that’s all what matters to Giyuu right now.
From her periphery, Shinobu could see the relief on Giyuu, and as much as she liked pissing Giyuu off, she knows the feeling and backs off. There was always another time for teasing, she can do that later.
“I’ll leave you two be. Tomioka-san be careful of her injuries, alright?” As promised, the door slides back closed as Shinobu leaves you two be.
After a while, you pat the empty space by the edge of your bed, croaking out a short “Sit with me.”, before Giyuu moves to sit over carefully. When he was settled, his eyes roamed over your skin, quick to assess the number of injuries and thinking how critical and painful each one of them might be.
“Before you say anything,” You start, “I’m sorry.”
Giyuu’s thrown off and his eyes dart from the bloody bandage on your arm to your eyes. “What—”
“I was way out of line, and I overreacted. I was being petty in waiting for you to apologize first, but it should have been me. I’m sorry for overreacting…and for taking this long to apologize.”
“But it doesn’t mean that I'm sorry about everything else!” Because while you were aware you overreacted, it didn’t mean that your feelings came from nowhere. “I can see that I was wrong in the way I approached things but I meant every word when I said that you’re too careless! I hate seeing you in pain and you just reminded me too much of my family and I—”
He interrupts you by taking your hands. Lightly, he traces vague shapes onto the skin of your palm, the rough calluses on his fingertips a nice reminder that he was here, that he was alive, and that you were too.
“I couldn’t handle the thought of you leaving me. I’m sorry.”
“I’m sorry too.”
The two of you stay quiet, the weight being lifted off of both of your shoulders, until a thought occurs to you that causes you to pull away.
“But you’re not saying anything about your recklessness.” You point out, giving him a light glare, only stopping when a small smile curls around his lips.
He chuckles and the sound goes straight to your heart. “Okay, I promise to stop being too reckless.”
“You better keep that promise, or else I’ll hunt you down myself.” Smiling softly, you place a hand against his cheek and pull him closer. “I missed you.”
Giyuu hums against your touch and a week's worth of not seeing him drives you to press your lips against his mouth. He responds easily, shifting his weight onto himself and holding your body to lighten the strain on you. You hold onto the lapels of his haori as he deepens the kiss, and it was a good thing he was holding you because under normal circumstances, your knees would have buckled.
“(F/N)-chan! It’s time to change your bandages—” Hearing a foreign voice, causes the two of you to turn to the entrance— “Oh dear. I’m so sorry to interrupt!”—only to see Shinobu smiling at  the two of you like a cat that ate the canary.
“Sh-Shinobu-chan! It’s um...”
“Oh, I’m sure it’s exactly what I think hm?” Her smile seems to grow wider, and you feel your face burst into flames. She knew exactly what was going on. “But Tomioka-san, I never would have guessed! How bold of you to do such lewd things to an injured patient! Anyway, I’ll leave you two alone, I’ll drop by again later to change your bandages, (F/N)-chan!”
The sound of the door slamming shut signals Shonbu’s leave and both you and Giyuu were left staring at the space where Shinobu once stood.
Just when things were getting good.
“She did that on purpose.” You announce, and Giyuu nods sympathetically.
“She probably did.”
You sigh but then immediately flinch and clutch your side as it burns from the injury. Giyuu was quick to notice and moves right by your bedside, assisting you in lying back down
“Be careful. You’re mad at me for pushing myself, when you’re just as bad.”
“Hush, you should have seen how you were practically bleeding all over the place.”
Tumblr media
“Hashira Tomioka-sama, can we plea—“
“No.”
It’s been two weeks since you left the Butterfly Estate, and as the Snow Pillar, you were well back on the grind patrolling and killing demons once you’ve fully recovered. The young demon slayers you saved though wish they could say the same. While you had some pretty critical injuries yourself, theirs were much worse, with all seven sporting broken bones, and other heavy injuries, but thanks to Shinobu’s medicine, they were on the road to recovery and physical therapy.
When the Oyakata-sama heard of the incident, he was quick to instruct someone to train the weaker demon-slayers.
Giyuu was more than happy to beat these slayers into shape.
Which led them here, Giyuu with a wooden sword in hand and a pile of sore bodies by his feet.
One such body groaned at the dirt floor as he clutched at the side Giyuu hit a little too hard. “We’ve already ran down the mountain, tried to dodge all of the deadly traps, and sparred with you. Surely we could have a short break, sir?”
Giyuu wanted to laugh at the naivety of these young slayers. When Urokodaki trained him and Sabito, they had it much worse, even being thrown down cliffs and waterfalls. And while Giyuu could say that Urokodaki was like a father figure to him, his training regimen was worse than any hell he could have experienced. But now was hardly the time to reminisce, he still had business to do.
He wasn’t one to intentionally intimidate others much, but he’s overheard plenty of rumors about himself. He’s heard that he’s one of the most…intimidating of the pillars, to say the least, and now, he’s not going to shy away from what could be an advantage to his situation.
Slowly, Giyuu walked over to the slayer and crossed his arms, looking straight through his eyes as he quietly spoke. “Your last mission was well-matched for someone of your rank.” He notes. “You hardly needed a Pillar for back-up, and because of your carelessness, she had to protect all five of you which landed the Snow Pillar in the butterfly estate. Now tell me, do you need a break?”
Despite Giyuu speaking in a voice no louder than a river’s burble, he could see the young man cower from slight fear before speaking in a shaky tone, “N-No, Sir!”
“I thought so.” Giyuu lightly clucked his tongue to himself before unfolding his arms. “Reset the traps and run through the mountain again. I'll let all five of you go for the day after.”
“Yes, Sir!” All five of them scrambled from their spot on the ground and scurried back up the mountain, letting himself feel a small morsel of sick satisfaction when he could hear the loud clacks from the traps and the pained grunts upon collision.
“I would say that it’s really nice that you took them in, but now that i’ve seen your face, i’m starting to think that this is on purpose.”
Giyuu was barely surprised to see the Snow Pillar herself right beside him like she was there the entire time. As pillars, both of you were faster and moved more efficiently than the average slayer, so you sneaking up on him was a common occurrence. You never seemed to get used to the opposite though, always claiming that he moved like a ghost.
“Maybe.” He shrugs, a little helplessly, tapping the wooden sword against the ground in a distracted fashion.
You laugh a nice tinkling sound he’s loves hearing, and he’s glad that you’re fine, and that the stupid little fight was resolved. He’s missed you a lot.
The two of you stood there together in silence, wincing when the sound of pained yelps travelled over from the small mountain Giyuu chose for training. A random conversation you had with your boyfriend suddenly entered your thoughts though, and made you wonder out loud. “Are you using the method Urokodaki-san used when he trained you?”
Nodding in affirmation, Giyuu hums in thought. “It was effective for me. And seeing how poorly trained they are from your previous mission, I thought that...” His train of thought short-circuited and was quickly derailed when you lean up on your tiptoes to place a soft kiss on his cheek. Giyuu’s ears immediately flush a deep red.
“You’re too cute, sweetheart.” You say, wrapping your arms around his neck. Seeing the ineffable Water Pillar flustered because of you was always a sight to behold. “Though, you didn’t have do thisfor me either.”
He turns his head away in hopes that you wouldn't see his face, but you simply laugh, and Giyuu feels his heart melt again. “They need to train more if they want to continue as slayers.”
You hum, letting your fingers sift through black strands of hair. “I know, I know, but lighten up, okay? Don’t be too hard on them.”
Giyuu nods as a reply and you place another kiss before pulling away. He wants to pull you back, but the trainees were already stumbling down the treeline, looking worse than they did a few minutes ago. Everyone was sporting new bruises and a few a lot of scratches, but seemed overall fine as they dropped down to the ground, panting for much needed air.
“All of you seem to be working hard.” You say in a kind voice, smiling kindly when their heads whip around to face you.
“Hashira (L/N)-sama!” They greet, scrambling to get up and drop to a bow in front of you. “We’re so glad to see you okay! Thank you for saving us!”
You wave your hand in front of your face, saying, “Oh, it was no problem! I’m glad all of you are okay.”
“All thanks to you. We hope you recovered well.”
“I did, thank you. Now stand up properly. Bowing for too long can’t be good for you all.”
One of them was about to open their mouth to continue the conversation, but Giyuu was quick to interject. “Alright, back to training.”
“Eh?!” All the trainees exclaim. It was clear that they respected the Water Pillar, but it was almost comical in how obvious the feeling of betrayal was in their voices.
“But we just finished!” A young girl among them who looked about ready to melt from exhaustion, points out. Another nods along, stating what Giyuu said earlier, in a hopeless fight for their much deserved break. “Tomioka-sama said we could go after!”
Oh, Giyuu is well aware of what he said. Instead of saying anything though, he feigns innocence, pretending he forgot despite having full intention of letting them go for the day.
He looks at the young slayers emptily, and responds in a deadpan tone. “Did I?”
Giyuu hears you sputter in laughter before punching his shoulder in a pitiful attempt to defend the poor kids. In both of your defenses, their faces were too funny not to laugh.
“Giyuu!”
Ship Swap AU (💕) Explanation
I know nobody asked for this, but I felt like explaining my AUs. At least the less common ones. Figured I'd give folks some better context than my little blurbs in the pinned post.
This is a long one, so I have a "Keep Reading" cut in case you are not interested and just wanna move along with your day without have all this post to scroll through. Trust me, it's long.
So! Let's start with the Kamado kids, Tanjirou and Nezuko. Quick TW for child abuse, human trafficking, implications of attempted SA, and death.
So Tanjirou and Nezuko are switched with Kanao and Zenitsu respectively. But things are a bit different than in canon.
Tanjurou and Kie still very much love and care for their children, and are still wonderful parents. What happened in this AU is that Tanjirou and Nezuko were kidnapped by bandits at a young age. Sometime between Takeo and Hanako's births. Tanjurou was out of the house on a market trip, and Kie ended up unconscious despite her rock-hard head and best efforts, only able to shield Takeo with her body.
After being kidnapped, the two siblings only really had each other as they were kept with traffickers who didn't treat them well at all. Tanjirou tried to take most of the hits so Nezuko wouldn't get hurt. He tried to protect her as best he could. But eventually, Nezuko was sold off to someone else, leaving Tanjirou alone with their kidnappers.
Tanjirou
Tumblr media
Tanjirou, as you can likely guess, becomes the child that the Kochou sisters rescued and subsequently adopted.
After Nezuko was sold off, Tanjirou eventually broke, shutting down his once barely containable emotions and closing off his mind as a defense/coping mechanism. The scent of kindness and flowers, and butterflies and anger brought him back to himself in time to notice the two girls with butterfly in their hair.
The sisters, Kochou Kanae and Shinobu, took him in and adopted him as their little brother. Tanjirou was able to inform the sisters of his given name, despite the challenge of speaking after months of silence, and picked "Kanzaki" as a surname when presented with the various options by the Kochou sisters. This is based on the Taisho Era Secret that Kanao picked both her names the same way, and Aoi tried to urge her to pick her surnmae, Kanzaki, but Kanao instead picked Tsuyuri. *pats Aoi on the head* It's okay, I'll give you a little brother in this AU!
Of course, the sisters' decision to adopt their newest addition came with its challenges. Namely, the fact Tanjirou's previous environment had stunted him mentally to the point he couldn't make decisions or take action without being told exactly what to do. Kanae offered a coin as a solution, which worked to make things easier until they could undo some of the damage.
Tanjirou eventually discovered Breath Styles from his new sisters during their sparring fights. Though he had repressed his memories from before he was brought to the Butterfly Mansion, one that had remained somewhat intact was a figure dancing in the snow. Tanjirou picked up a practice sword, and discovered the ability to use this dance as a Breath Style. A visit to the Rengoku Estate later, and it was revealed that Sun Breathing had made its return to the Corps for the first time since the Sengoku Era. Tanjirou's use of Sun Breathing led some (*cough* Shinjurou, mostly *cough*) to believe he was actually descended from Yoriichi.
The next events will include a spoiler for a major canon divergence I made, and I don't wanna spoil it in this explanation post! If I get asked about it, I'll probably talk about it then.
Nezuko
Tumblr media
Nezuko was sold to the Red Light District in Yoshiwara. The one bright side to her situation was that she was sold to Tokito House, the House who had the kind and sisterly Koinatsu. (Taisho Era Secret: Nezuko only spent one week at Kyogoku House with Warabihime, but it was enough to be thankful she hadn't been sold to the House of the cruel and terrifying woman.) Despite the small bright sides, however, Nezuko despised her new life. Not least of all because it separated her from her family and made her into little more than a piece of property to be passed around when she was old enough. At least, that's what was intended to happen to her.
When she was 12, Nezuko's life changed. A customer got too intimate for her rank as well as her liking, and she lashed out in fear and self-defense. She stabbed the customer in the throat with a hairpin. Of course, most girls who were old enough to take in customers knew the story from over a century ago. The story of the girl who attacked a customer, and got burned alive. And that was only for gouging out a single eyeball! Nezuko reasonably panicked, and ran for the hills. There, she ran into none other than the God of Festivals himself, Uzui Tengen, and his three wives.
(I was originally planning to have Nezuko meet Kuwajima, Zenitsu's mentor in canon, but I think her meeting Uzui would make much more sense considering Geography and the fact Kuwajima is 1. missing a whole leg, 2. retired, and 3. training Kaigaku. So she meets the flashy ninja man instead!)
Tengen, upon hearing the pre-teen's terror and distress, let his wives handle the situation and calm to girl down. Upon realizing the situation, the four decided to take Nezuko in and adopt her. Nezuko happily went with them, thankful for an escape from Yoshiwara and hopeful to get a chance to find the family she lost.
As she grew up with the Uzuis, Nezuko also took an interest in Demon Slaying. With enough pestering and Puppy Eyes, she was taken under Tengen's wing to learn Sound Breathing.
One thing they all learned quickly about Nezuko was that she is feral. Over 5 years of being forced to be a "proper young lady" 24/7, she's got some pent up Gremlin Energy to work out. Nezuko is required to have a) adult supervision at all times, and/or b) no access to anything that could cause a fire and/or explosion unless she's supposed to be causing fires and/or explosions.
Then here's my explanation for Kanao and Zenitsu(Sorry, I don't have pictures atm. I'm mostly focused on Tanjirou and Nezuko right now and I struggle with drawing Zenitsu's hair!):
Kanao ran away from her abusive parents before her canon mental break, and ran as far as she could before she collapsed. She was found by Zenitsu, who brought her to wherever he lived at the time and helped her recover from the long journey, malnourishment, and dehydration. The two got to know each other, and decided to stick together after a while. While Kanao didn't have a first name at the time, she did pick up the family name Zenitsu had of Agatsuma after deciding to become his sister.
(Since we don't know when her real birthday is, we can't say if Kanao's older or younger than Zenitsu. The difference would be a matter of months, as Zenitsu and Kanao are both 16 at the times of their debuts, with Zenitsu's birthday falling on September 3rd while Kanao's actual date of birth is unknown. So I shall just say sister, neither older nor younger.)
The two wandered between towns for a few years before coming to the town at the base of Mount Kumotori, where they were found by Saburou and Tanjurou. After explaining the situation, Saburou agreed to watch over them until they found a more permanent home. And then he ends up getting attached and adopts them himself!
Because of their new home being so close, Kanao and Zenitsu became close with the Kamado kids(Takeo and Hanako, adding on Shigeru and Rokuta when they're born. Tanjirou and Nezuko have been missing for a couple years.). Of course, the two were made aware of the missing eldest children, and made sure to not make themselves into potential replacements. However, they do still care for the younger kids, and help when they can. Helping with chores, babysitting the kids if Kie and Tanjurou have to leave the house, etc.
The two also make names for themselves thanks to their enhanced senses. Zenitsu is often asked to help find lost pets or help kids find their way back to their parents with his hearing, while Kanao is often requested to use her sharp sight to help find wild animals sneaking treats or make sure a building project is okay. And suffice it to say, the two are very good at their jobs.
When Tanjurou passes away from his illness, Kie steps up to take charge until Takeo's older, including taking over the charcoal deliveries. Both Kanao and Zenitsu step up to help, even if Takeo insists he can handle it himself.
This is what leads to the events that transpire during Muzan's "visit" to the Kamado home.
Zenitsu had chosen to help Takeo watch over the house and younger kids, while Kanao insisted on helping Kie take the latest batch of charcoal into town. Everything continues as it did in the canon episode 1, only with Kie going into town with Kanao as well. Yes, this is because I want Kie alive so Tanjirou and Nezuko have someone to come home to.
The two women come back to the aftermath of the massacre. It's one of the times Kanao wished she didn't have such a sharp sense of sight. While Zenitsu survived, none of Kie's children made it. Kanao offered her condolences, knowing that Kie had lost her entire family now. It was quick, though, as they had to get Zenitsu to a doctor. However, as we know, this is where a whole mess of events begins.
...
Et voila!
oyakata-sama’s sister.
synopsis: Your first meeting with your brother after many months. And also the first meeting with other amazing people.
# tags: headcanon; siblings relationship; older!reader; mild angst and drama; bit of fluff, i think; changed plot; sfw
includes: female reader ft. ubuyashiki family, all pillars & kamado siblings {kny)
Tumblr media
↘ Your first meeting with the Pillars and extraordinary siblings has certainly been and will be unforgettable for you until the end of your short life.
↘ You weren’t physically look like your brother, it was a fact.
↘ That’s why Tengen thought you were an uninvited guest at their very important Meeting with their Leader. He and the Flame Hashira wanted to stop you and ask you leave, because it was private property.
↘ They were also supposed to take care of the Tanjiro and Nezuko Kamado cases, so the next one who thought you were bad was Shinobu. The young demon slayer thought you came to save siblings from death.
↘ You actually came here unannounced to visit your five years younger brother, his gorgeous wife and their sweet children. You just felt you had to do this.
↘ You turned your gaze to each of the Eight Pillars present. Also at the boy sitting in a tree and a standing far away, black-haired teenager in a two-color haori. Then to the lying, bound kid and the wooden engawa you haven’t seen for few long months. After a few seconds you closed your eyes, listening to the sounds around you; the sound of the wind, the breaths and the beating of the hearts of the assembled people, and then you moved towards Tanjiro to crouch and grab his tied boyish arm.
↘ “Please, Lady! Don’t touch him!” The Flame Pillar spoke aloud as he stood next to your small, kneeling figure. But you were silent, scanning the boy’s bloodied face and his gagged hands with your empty but very warm eyes. Only after a long moment, you got up again, looking at the young people surrounding you. They were all so different and yet they had one goal in common. It was amazing how strong swordsmasters your brother chose. You felt it.
↘ “Life is too short to judge others. You shouldn’t pass judgment on this young boy without knowing the reason why he’s hiding a girl turned into a demon in his chest.” Your soft, silk voice spread among the gathered people, and all the Pillars, including the hyperactive Rengoku and Uzui, immediately calmed their rushing thoughts and mouth. Your peaceful and motherly voice also reached to Tanjiro, who was still lying on the ground. You bent down again to help him sit up.
↘ Everyone was shocked by your knowledge on a topic that you certainly shouldn’t know.
↘ Suddenly you heard heavy footsteps and another voice. A bit amused and hoarse. You turned your head, listening to the whistle of the wind.
↘ “Oh. The Wind Hashira.” You spoke softly as you walked towards him. Your hand went up a little, and the rest of the crowd had a sight in their minds of Sanemi lunging at you with a sword that shone proudly beside his leg.
↘ Nothing like that came, because your gentle hand rested on his chest, in the place of his beating heart. “You have a little brother, don’t you?” You asked lightly, and the boy frowned. “There is a girl in this wooden box. Slightly younger than your brother, but in your friend’s age who loves to look at clouds. This is the sister of the boy you want to judge today.” You spoke as you moved your hand towards the fingers that held the brown case. “Just like you don’t want to lose a brother, this boy doesn’t want to lose his sister. Please put the box on the ground.”
↘ Sanemi listened to you and it shocked everyone around both of you.
↘ But your voice... So gentle, feminine and calming, made his heart quieter and his mind slowed. So he put the chest down gently and stepped back.
↘ “The Leader has arrived.” Your nieces’ soft voice reached your ears and you smiled as you joined your tiny, smooth hands in front of your beautiful and white as snow haori.
↘ When your brother greeted the kneeling slayers, you came closer. No one dared speak, though the Nine Pillars and red-haired boy were still concerned.
↘ “I hear someone’s footsteps. Who is this?” The black-haired man asked two girls standing next to him.
↘ “It’s Y/N-sama.”
↘ “Hello, brother. Long time no see.” You spoke warmly, and then the Pillars joined the dots. Your voices. Equally calm and full of love. You were siblings.
↘ Just like the Kamado siblings, like the Shinazugawa siblings, like the Kocho siblings.
↘ “Y/N-san. Welcome. Come in, please.”
↘ If you had not attended at the Pillars Meeting that day, Tanjirou and Nezuko could have been hurt. However, to everyone’s happiness, your gut feeling told you to visit your younger brother. Perhaps for the last time, however, everyone will remember the pretty smile you gave them all when you introduced yourself to them, thanking for defending the weak. You charmed everyone, without exception.
↘ The only thing you regretted was that you couldn’t see their beautiful faces and the gratitude that was on the face of the young swordsman who fought so bravely in defense of his own younger sister.
↘ However, the curse of the Ubuyashiki family was also upon you; on your eyes and on the life that was about to end.
I have so much thoughts, but what if Reader was originally human and was very close friends with Tanjiro and his family? <33
Reader and Tanjiro have known each other for a long time. Reader who visits their home from the village to often help out or offer small gifts or food that they received or made ;;;
Reader who tells Tanjiro to be very careful today in the snow, as they had already fallen a few times on their way here. Haha a little clumsy Reader <33 Overall, Reader tells Tanjiro that they'll await his return since they want to help Kie with the food, since they learned new recipes.
Reader who actually puts up an impressive fight against Muzan for a brief while to protect the family. That it attracted an fox spirit who offers another chance to Reader to stop that Oni from hurting others.
Overall, Reader who now slowly becomes a kitsune helping Tanjiro to stop Muzan and to turn Nezuko back to a human. If only maybe Reader didn't keep getting distracted by so many things they never seen
- kitsune anon
good morning, my squishy marshmaltsune <3
just imagine that his family thinks that you will be a good couple with him, since you get along and Tanjirou blushes sweetly when he is teased about you, so you are especially warmly received and offered to stay with them overnight, as they want the future spouse of their son/brother to be on good terms with them,,,, you are actually slightly shy, but rather glad, especially when you see a rosy-cheeked Tanjirou, who is embarrassed that his family is so teasingly affectionate with you, but at the same time he is so warm that they treat you well, and that you are glad of their company <3
his siblings often whisper about you too loudly next to him and giggle, but he knows they want the best... they just love to watch his ears burn brightly </3 and even if Nezuko pinches their cheeks slightly, saying that they don't need to tease him so openly, she is usually in the first place among all those who like to tell him how happy he is when he sees you </33
but it's actually not that bad — although he says he considers you a member of his family, “nothing too intimate!”, mother smiles, which makes him feel caught again. but it's true! he would never have thought of you that way. you are close to him, but not in this sense, and even more so he has never had thoughts about you in this form — not that he would mind having a family with you, but isn't he still, uh, too young? moreover, you come from the village, and you are so wonderful, you probably already have someone in mind as a future spouse-
brother, stop it, stop it, it's impossible to listen anymore!
... and although your awkwardness is a little funny, — in a cute way! — it doesn't mean that it's something strange when he holds on to you a little longer, or happily listens to your words that you are looking forward to his return.
and although his brothers and sisters giggle a little while watching you say goodbye to each other, it still warms his heart (even if he feels a little ticklish desire to tickle them so that they stop looking like that).
but Tanjirou's heart, absolutely broken, when he comes back elated and feels the smell of blood;;; tell me that he can't believe what he feels at first, sniffing warily, as if trying to convince himself that this smell is false, until he takes off, hoping that everything is fine and he just imagined it </3
to dream of having a happy dinner surrounded by family, so that all this would be broken by the thick stench of blood and death
he doesn't even realize right away that you're holding Nezuko, looking terribly painful and terrifying
Tanjirou wants to ask, or scream, or cry, but she's still breathing — he's sure she's breathing — and the only thing he's thinking about is helping both of you, but you seem to still be able to walk, even if you haven't uttered a word since the meeting — Tanjirou doesn't even realize that you haven't said anything until you push Nezuko off him.
it's strange and unusual when you cling to Nezuko, wrapping your tails around her, and purr when he snuggles up to you, looking for a familiar warmth. Nezuko is as cold as you are, — not at all the same human warmth as before — but this feeling of your claws on his body is enough for him, pressing him to himself so that he almost suffocates, although you hold him like a fragile flower.
you look different. you smell different. but you are still you. and he's still him. and Nezuko is still... Nezuko, right?
you're purring like a big cat.
Tumblr media
You almost go crazy in a big city when there are so many smells around, and you want to try them all, but Tanjirou holds your hand so that you don't run away and move away from him, because he is afraid of losing another member of his family, and you don't know if you want to be touched that he has become so affectionate or whine and run a little between the food stalls;;;;
Or imagine your amazement when you see a train that runs only between cities,,,, Tanjirou is so sweet and joyful when he sees your enthusiastic face,,,,, <3
