Do you think you speak too fast/ too slow?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here is what I learned from a speech coach.
warm up:
start this exercise by taking a deep breath and saying “aaaaah” - try to extend this to 30 seconds. Now if it doesn’t go till 30, that’s fine. Aim to work your way to that. If you can work it up to 30, go for 45/60 seconds. Do this 5 times.
next. Download an app called Metronome beats. It’s basically what singers/ musicians use for beats.
Settings: keep beats/bar as 1,
clicks/beats as 1
start at 90. It will start with a click sound and continue “beeping.”
Match your words to the beep. One beep = one word. Now slowly, increase the beat by 5 till you reach 110. Increase it at your own pace but try to spend at least 20 seconds on each number (90 for 20 seconds; 95 for 20; 100 for 20….) That’s when you stop.
either start by reading something out loud and matching the beat, or select a topic and speak freely.
do this every single day. This will help with your breath, if you’re speaking on a topic it will help you think better and improve over time. The best way to further complement this exercise is to improve your vocabulary. Try to learn 1-3 new words a day and incorporate it in your vocabulary.
This is a great tool to use when learning new languages too. You can practice your speaking skills and see how fast you can remember/ read words.

After a weekend heavy with emotions, I stepped out onto my balcony this evening to admire the enchanting beauty of the full moon. She’s always captivatingly beautiful. I cherish her in all her phases. Much like the moon, I too go through my own phases, and through my love for her, I’ve discovered a deeper love and understanding for myself amidst these changes.
As I gazed at the night sky, I envisioned various versions of myself standing beside me. I cradled my toddler self in my arms, while my childhood self stood to my left and my 16-year-old self to my right. Slightly behind me stood a version of myself from my early twenties. Together, we stood there, bathing in the moonlight, embracing each other, in a moment both comforting and emotionally charged. It felt as though all versions of myself were offering solace, much like I comfort and reassure them in my thoughts, a coping mechanism I learned through schema therapy. It was truly a magical moment.
Besides the fact that it’s a full moon, eclipse season has also commenced. It’s an interesting time astrologically, and I find myself immensely curious about what lies ahead. Emotionally, I’m navigating through a challenging period, yet I hold faith that the paths in this phase of my life will be illuminated, guiding me towards the right direction on this journey of life. I trust that what is meant for me will find its way to me, while what isn’t meant for me will fade into the vastness of the universe’s light.
Aligned with the full moon’s grace, happy full moon! ✨🌕✨

New part of my practice I have unlocked - yoga, meditation, and working out
Now this can be great for broom closet witches or practitioners - it’s kinda hidden in sight! You don’t have to worry about people judging, or having to keep it hidden so hard and you can even have people join you! Meditation can connect you with the divine, yoga can unlock strength and also connect you to the divine with it also having to do with breath work, and working out can connect you to yourself and hello your health!

Dear LG, hope you are well ❤️ I am interested to get your take on breath work. In Australia, there are more and more Yogis becoming qualified breathwork practitioners! I went to a breathwork workshop (rebirthing one) and after the first 15 minutes, attendees were in tears, reaching through their layers and most said it was incredible. I was too in my head on what was going on around me, but started to become a little overwhelmed at one point and feeling a build up of something. I also went to one a few years ago, that was more focused around tantra- little did a I realise the apparent height of the session that I went to was to get centralised energy build up in particular places. Lol. Again I was in my head, but the room sounded like wild animals orgasming! Thoughts? Have you done a focused workshop like this (outside of your usual breathwork in other practice?) Do you believe a practice of this can really help people to get back to themselves and work through ‘stuff’?
Well first off, anything calling itself "tantra" and focusing on orgasms is absolute nonsense. That is not tantra. It's like saying doing a few pushups qualifies as astronaut training. Sure, some pushups may be involved in a small way at some point, but doing pushups and calling it astronaut training really falls astronomically short (pun intended) of what becoming an astronaut entails. At best, such "tantric" workshops may be therapeutic sexuality.
Ok! Rant over.
As to your question about breathwork, my own experience is that it is incredibly powerful. One of my favorite techniques consists of deep hyperventilating breaths followed by a full exhale, a half inhale, and then retention of breath. When I do this, my entire body relaxes such that it feels as though I am floating underwater in a hot tub.
There are so many different techniques and I wouldn't be surprised if there were research out there showing how these techniques can alter our physiology. I'm a big fan of Wim Hof and the breathwork/cold exposure that he teaches. There is also the Tibetan monk practices of Tummo to consider, in which they literally sit in the snow and melt it with their body heat generated with this practice.
Just one scientific aspect of breathing techniques that I can speak to is the contribution of Nitric Oxide (abbreviated NO). One function of our sinuses is that they produce nitric oxide, which we then inhale into our lungs when we breathe in. Nitric oxide is a vasodilator and a bronchodilator. What this means is that when we inhale the natural nitric oxide from our sinuses, it opens up our lungs' smaller airways and also increases blood flow. The overall effect is that it improves oxygenation of your blood and benefits your circulation.
What's more, certain techniques like alternate nostril breathing or even humming (AUMMMMMMMM!!) dramatically increases the amount of nitric oxide released from your sinuses.
Here is a nifty YouTube video about it.
Cool stuff, right?
I am not super educated on this subject beyond this, nor do I practice it in depth. It is something I have integrated into my own spiritual practice and will likely explore more as time and inspiration permits. If you or anyone discovers any particularly impressive resources, feel free to reach out and share! :D

Lifebushido Stories: James Stewart
Bushido, Dinnerbushido, Coffeebushido, Lifebushido and BushidoSteve. This story is of James Stewart’s Bushido. Bushido is a word associated with Samurais in Japanese and Lifebushido, a word invented by Steve Kantor, resulted in creating many real life Samurai’s hurtling towards their passion.
Tumblr media
James Stewart is one such Samurai. He defines Bushido as, “A unique gift or talent that you want or you want to improve. A passion that you want to pursue and make difference to the rest of the world.” Bushido had a definite impact on James. He has met tens of other Samurai’s pursuing their Bushido virtually or as a part of Bushido events like Coffeebushido and Dinnerbushido. He describes the impact of Bushido as, “There’s a big difference in having words up here (in mind) and actually writing down on paper. It (writing down) transforms them. It was challenging to codify my goals in words for first couple of times, but I kept doing it. It was like saying the magic word, abra cadabra. It gave a greater sense of care and deliberateness to my goals.” Another benefit James has realized is the community of Bushido enthusiasts that Steve has created. James mentioned about his own cultural awareness that he has achieved by traveling and meeting people all around the world. He says, “It never fails to amaze me how vast variety of different people that Steve knows. I have spoken to people from 4-5 different continents, from different walk of life. Every one of those is different, but the idea of following their Bushido and sticking to their passion was common. I probably had 20-25 one-on-one Bushido interactions and many more in groups. I have only not found less than five people exciting.”
James has been part of Gobundance men’s group. Few of the men from the group were regularly interacting through Marco Polo video chat, including Steve and James. In those interactions they would share ideas about mutual well-being. James was introduced to BushidoSteve in the middle of 2022. James became curious. He did not go looking for dictionary meaning for the word Bushido, but he knew few Japanese motivational words and he found that vibe in Bushido. In his own words, “It was a little wild. I heard word Bushido Steve before I heard the word Bushido (by itself). Steve is unique. He is not mainstream. So it certainly sparked some curiosity, but also Steve and Bushido connected. It had certain anticipation. Because I have heard few other Japanese motivational words, it sat with me in a positive way.”
James’ Bushido is to “Create space and facilitate transformational change in people with the power of breath work.” His goal is to help 5000 people by the end of year 2023, organize breathing retreats, and create digital product to spread the awareness of breath work. He has already helped over a thousand people. Born in Australia, and after doing business in four different countries, James is now settled in the United States. He is certified in Wim Hof method and The Language of Breath. His interest in breath work was born out of existential questions in his mind like ‘why are we here?’ and ‘who am I?’ He says that in younger years he was gravitated towards the external motivations, but as he was gradually attracted towards meditation and internal motivation his interest in breath work grew. In his own words, “Breath work is the easiest way to slow down, calm down and stop that monkey-mind that continuously chattering.” Over the years, James grew more proficient in breath work. He provided breath work service to many people, motivating them. At this moment in life, he is sure of his techniques, and confident of reading his audience to offer them breath work that is the most appropriate. With the help of Lifebushido community and motivation, and his own experience and expertise, James will achieve his goals.

if it won't matter in 5 months, don't spend more that 5 minutes worrying about it.
this is much easier said than done.
try opening up instead of closing off & let it go. 🪷

Day 9: Xi Breathing
Todays practice was okay. I’m starting to realized that the most difficult of practices, where I’m lacking focus, or that it brings up these feelings in the body is exactly what I need for that deep healing. Possibly, i’ll still have to continue working through these breath work exercises. So the Xi Breathing practice for today, is to bring awareness to a part of my body and mind that I want…

“Holotropic breathwork (HB) has become increasingly popular among those seeking to explore a unique process of self-healing to attain a state of wholeness. This unconventional New Age practice was developed by psychiatrists Stanislav and Christina Grof in the 1970s to achieve altered states of consciousness (without using drugs) as a potential therapeutic tool.
In many countries, practitioners utilize this technique as a spiritual practice rather than a therapeutic one. In this way, some people participate to expand their awareness rather than to overcome or manage a mental health condition.1 Many proponents of HB propose that this technique moves you forward to a higher consciousness.
In other words, it may shift you into another state, which can be appealing to people who feel stuck and unable to advance using other means. Often times, this feeling of awakening can happen through some form of catharsis.
However, the belief is that trauma will only come forward during a session if it is necessary for healing; and that this won't be known at the outset of the session.1 Rather, each person's experience with HB is unique, self-directed, and unfolds on its own as the practice progresses... After LSD became illegal in the late 1960s, the Grofs, who had been proponents of the therapeutic effects of LSD, developed holotropic breathwork. The technique was created to achieve psychedelic-like states without using psychedelic drugs. The Grofs were trained in Freudian psychoanalytic therapy and believed the process of deep, self-exploration brought on by these altered states can bring healing...
