Democrat Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), who is running for late Sen. Diane Feinstein’s U.S. Senate seat, is calling for a $50 minimum wage, defending her position during a debate Monday night.
The moderator asked Lee to defend her call for a $50-an-hour minimum wage during the event, noting that it is “seven times the current national minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.”
When asked how that would be economically sustainable for small businesses, Lee immediately said that she owned and ran a small business for over a decade, creating “hundreds of jobs, benefits, retirement benefits, [and] also health care benefits.”
“I know what worker productivity means, and that means that you have to make sure that your employees are taken care of and have a living wage in the Bay Area,” Lee said. “I believe it was the United Way [that] came out with a report that — very recently — [said] $127,000 for a family of four is just barely enough to get by,” she said, pointing to another survey that identified $104,000 as not being enough for one person, essentially classifying them as low income “because of the affordability crisis.”
She added:
And so, just do the math. Just do the math. Of course, we have national minimum wages that we need to raise to a living wage — you’re talking about $20, $25 — fine, but I have got to be focused on what California needs and what the affordability factor is when we calculate this wage.
Lee ultimately failed to answer the question.SUBSCRIBE

Fox 40 notes that “a wage of $50 an hour would total $104,000 over the course of a year.”
WATCH:
Her call generated mockery from critics, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who asked, “Who not $500 per hour?”
“Okay, why not $100 then? $1,000? Why not just make the minimum wage a billion dollars an hour? Then we’d all be richer than Elon Musk!” Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk remarked.
“Economic illiteracy like Rep. Lee’s has been around for centuries. Every country that adopts it becomes a dystopian nightmare,” he added as others piled on:
Lee’s call comes as inflation comes roaring back with no immediate signs of relief, as detailed in Breitbart Business Digest.

On the surface, EMF’s broadcasts are glaringly apolitical. They opt instead for their trite brand of Christian rock, all teed off by the same, small cast of nationally syndicated, Anywhere-USA DJs who smile through everything from squeaky-clean jokes about the drink sizes at Starbucks to prayers asking God to watch over those who have donated to the organization. But behind its politically neutral facade, the organization — and the CCM industry more broadly — appears to be an inherently conservative project. Many right-wing Christian culture bearers have long believed in the “Breitbart Doctrine” — the idea that, to change politics, you must first change culture — and have fought for decades to build a parallel popular culture free of sharp edges, hard questions, or representations of lives that veer from the straight and narrow. The world of CCM, in turn, “reflects the values of the religious right,” says religious-studies historian and author of God Gave Rock and Roll to You: A History of Contemporary Christian Music Leah Payne, by providing “suburban families with safe Christian listening experiences in the car.” And while EMF stations may not have the “attention-getting, rage-inducing content” of an explicitly political outlet like Fox News, she says, “K-LOVE is the softer side of that conservatism.”  Today, the organization’s nationwide network of radio stations plays mostly white, male artists. Though it professes to broadcast “Christian music,” it largely steers clear of genres like religious rap or gospel, as well as any Christian rock that grapples too heavily with doubt or hardship. Christian artists who have wavered in their faith have quietly been dropped from EMF’s playlists; several queer Christian artists have lost work and airtime on CCM radio after coming out. (Through a representative, EMF declined to be interviewed for this story and did not respond to requests for comment.)
My mama listens to K-LOVE all the fucking time and it is the most generic half-assed mealymouthed bullshit I've ever heard 24-7. Now I know who to blame.

An atheist never killed a religious zealot
A homosexual never killed a homophobic monster
A black person never shot up a white church
But we are somehow the bad guys, maybe we should change our tactic.
Clearly, us being decent human beings isn't enough for people like Matt Walsh, Charlie Kirk, Ted Cruz, Ann Coulter, Tucker Carlson, Ben Shapiro, Laura Ingraham, WorldNetDaily, Regnery Publishing, One America News Network, National Review, The American Conservative, The American Spectator, Blaze Media, Breitbart News, The Daily Caller, Alliance Defending Freedom, American Family Association, Concerned Women for America, Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, Independent Women's Forum, Judicial Watch, Turning Point USA, JK Rowling, Jordan Peterson, The Heritage Foundation, Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, Dennis Prager, Michael Savage, Franklin Graham, Tony Perkins, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Mike Pence, Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Dinesh D'Souza.
For our survival, we are fighting against really powerful evil people. These White Christian nationalists will never rest until they remove all of us. The idea they carry in their DNA is more dangerous than a nuclear bomb. This is no more a metaphorical fight between left and right. Evil is getting more organized, and so should we.
This isn't the time for pussyfooting, this isn't the time for hesitance.

NBC’s interview with Trump, Part II.
My note yesterday about the Meet the Press interview with Donald Trump generated a lot of response from readers. Although most people agreed with my criticism of NBC, a fair number of readers disagreed. Many readers noted that Trump made several admissions during the interview that will be helpful to special counsel Jack Smith. Others argued that it was acceptable for Kristen Welker not to push Trump with aggressive questions because Trump would have walked out of the interview. One reader said they appreciated seeing that Trump has deteriorated mentally over the last several years.
While I appreciate the comments, I believe they miss the point of my criticism. Choosing to interview Trump at all helps to normalize him as a legitimate candidate for the presidency. He is not. He was the first president to attempt a coup. He incited an insurrection. He refused to return defense secret documents. He has obstructed justice by urging his employees to delete surveillance tapes. He attempted to use US military aid as a bribe to fabricate dirt on his political opponent. A civil jury found him liable for sexual assault, which a federal judge said meets the legal definition of rape. He defamed two poll workers—Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss—by accusing them of “stuffing ballots,” a lie that resulted in death threats. He has threatened to use the DOJ to “lock up” his political opponents in his next term. And there is more, much more.
Against that background, to begin an interview with “Why are you running for president” and “What will a Trump second term look like?” implicitly accepts and forgives all of the above by assuming that Trump is a legitimate participant in a democratic process. That is why NBC’s decision to interview Trump at all normalizes him, regardless of Welker’s performance as an interviewer.
The fact that Trump inadvertently made admissions helpful to Jack Smith is nice—but entirely beside the point. Trump makes admissions every time he opens his mouth. Let him do that on Fox, One America Network, and Breitbart. NBC did not need to legitimize Trump's candidacy with Kristen Welker’s first-ever interview as host of Meet the Press.
Many people defended Kristen Welker on the ground that “any” interviewer would not have been able to keep up with Trump's torrent of lies. My point exactly! Trump's ability to engage in high-velocity lying makes him an unsuitable interviewee—because the interviewer inevitably allows Trump's lies to go unanswered.
NBC admitted as much when it released a separate “after the fact” fact check of Trump that identified seventeen lies during the interview. See NBC News, Fact-checking Trump's 'Meet the Press' interview. Because the interview was pre-recorded, NBC had time to prepare Welker with the facts (including video) to challenge Trump in real time. NBC and Welker weren’t up to the task. (The same would have been true of almost any interviewer.) Or NBC could have fact-checked Trump with a running banner under the interview that said, “This claim is false because . . . .”
NBC knew it was not up to the task of interviewing Trump in a meaningful way. So, what should NBC have done? It should have either not interviewed him or it should have followed the advice of David Pepper in his blog Pepperspectives, How To Interview Trump (substack.com). I highly recommend Pepper’s blog to all readers—especially journalists out there with the opportunity to interview Trump.
David Pepper writes,
"Never move on from the FIRST lie until [Trump] acknowledges it’s a lie.
NEVER.
And most importantly, for as long as [Trump refuses] to acknowledge it, as much as you want to move to the next question, do NOT!
Literally….end the interview rather than moving on to the next topic.
Why does this matter?
Because Trump and other dishonest subjects go into these interviews KNOWING they can get away with endless lying.
First, in many cases, they’re not even fact-checked.
Second, even if they are fact-checked, they KNOW that the interviewer’s goal is to get through a long list of questions."
David Pepper hits the nail on the head. Welker’s interview failed because (a) she did not fact-check Trump in real-time, and (b) she had a long list of topics to cover and felt compelled to “move on” (something she repeatedly said during the interview).
Because Trump knew he would not be fact-checked, he knew he could lie with impunity. Which is what he did—with NBC’s complicity.
Two more comments and then I will stop. As one reader (Loretta R) noted in the Comments section:
The one sure way for the media to contain Donald Trump’s lies is to STOP REPEATING THEM.
“Repeating Trump's lies” includes giving him a platform to repeat those lies himself—like CNN’s “townhall” and NBC’s Meet the Press interview."
Second, reader Ellie K. recommended The Media and Democracy Project Blog | Substack and the Media and Democracy Project as resources for helping to fight the false and biased narratives in major media outlets.
We need to keep up the pressure (and criticism) of major media outlets for treating Trump like he is simply another GOP contender rather than the greatest threat faced by American democracy at this moment.

HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
August 12, 2022 (Friday)
Today, the House of Representatives passed the Inflation Reduction Act, a sweeping bill that will invest more than $430 billion in climate change and extended subsidies for the Affordable Care Act. It will raise about $737 billion over the next ten years by allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices, adequately staffing the Internal Revenue Service after years of cuts so it can catch people cheating on their taxes, and raising the tax rate on rich corporations to require them to pay a minimum of 15%.T
he vote was 220 to 207, along party lines, although the measures in the bill are widely popular. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) didn’t lose a vote, even among those Democrats concerned the measure doesn’t go far enough. For their part, Republicans have been misrepresenting the bill to justify their opposition: Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) has called it a “war on seniors” because he says it cuts Medicare spending. That’s a misleading read on a provision that is expected to save $265 billion by allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices.
This bill is a huge deal for the country and for the Biden administration, launching us into a new era in which we take serious steps to address climate change, start to rein in the costs of healthcare, and begin again to ask the very wealthy to pay their share of the costs of running our country, and yet it has been overshadowed by today’s other big story.
After days of attacks on the FBI and the Justice Department by former president Trump and his supporters for the Monday search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property, today a federal judge unsealed the search warrant and the property receipt for that search. The warrant shows that agents were investigating whether Trump violated the Espionage Act.
The property receipt reveals that agents reclaimed for the United States more than 26 boxes of documents, including ones labeled “classified/TS/SCI,” which means “top secret/sensitive compartmented information.” This is highly classified material that is available only to those necessary to the project, and must be discussed, used, and stored only in secure locations because its release to the public would cause “exceptionally grave” damage to our national security.
Trump’s lawyer Christina Bobb, who is also an anchor for the right-wing One America News Network, signed the property receipt.
Even before the release of the warrant, Trump had offered a number of excuses for taking documents to Mar-a-Lago and then keeping them despite a subpoena for their return. First, he blamed FBI agents for planting them on the premises, riling up his base against the FBI. That effort continued today: before the judge unsealed the documents, it appears Trump leaked them to Breitbart, which published them without blacking out the names of the agents who executed the search warrant, evidently intended to menace them.
Then he claimed that while he had taken only a few documents, former president Barack Obama had taken 33 million. This afternoon, the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) put out a statement clarifying that it took possession of all Obama’s presidential records when he left office in 2017 and that it moved about 30 million unclassified pages of them to a “NARA facility in the Chicago area where they are maintained exclusively by NARA. Additionally, NARA maintains the classified Obama Presidential records in a NARA facility in the Washington, DC, area. As required by the P[residential] R[ecords] A[ct], former President Obama has no control over where and how NARA stores the Presidential records of his administration.”
Now he and his allies are saying that he declassified all the documents he took out of the Oval Office, so the recovered documents were no longer classified. The fact they were not marked declassified, as required, was simply because White House counsel didn’t get the paperwork done.
But there is a process for declassification; a president can’t just say something is declassified. Further, as legal analyst and former FBI special agent Asha Rangappa clarified, a president cannot unilaterally declassify nuclear secrets.
Legal analyst Joyce White Vance said, “Even if this is true & it holds up (I’ve got significant doubts) what does it say that Trump declassified materials that put our national security in grave danger? And that the Republican Party continues to support him?”

Authorities arrested 27-year-old Regina Mai Allen on February 8, the outlet reported Thursday.
An image shows Allen, who has pink hair, wearing brightly colored makeup. She also appears to have a mustache:
Tumblr media
The Post Millennial article said Allen also goes by the “trans alias ‘Ringo M. Valentine.'” She was booked into jail regarding 20 felony counts of distributing, possessing, or viewing child sex abuse content.
The Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN) website said such content is not called “child pornography” because the term “child sexual abuse material” is more accurate:
While some of the pornography online depicts adults who have consented to be filmed, that’s never the case when the images depict children. Just as kids can’t legally consent to sex, they can’t consent to having images of their abuse recorded and distributed. Every explicit photo or video of a kid is actually evidence that the child has been a victim of sexual abuse.
Allen reportedly has numerous social media posts about being trans nonbinary and participating in activism, according to The Post Millennial.
In addition, X user Kory Yeshua described Allen as being an artist who creates art with “demonic sexual themes”:
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, The Post Millennial detailed some of Allen’s writings online:
“Stuck in my cis passing body prison bc [because] scared of finding out if my doctors are too conservative or not,” Allen wrote on X, formerly Twitter, in April 2021. The next month, Allen boasted about starting cross-sex hormones. Allen posted frequently about transitioning, including posting photos showing Allen growing facial hair and boasting about being on the “dude juice” (testosterone). Allen was also involved in LGBTQ+ activism and the furry community. The “furry” fandom subculture features people dressing up as anthropomorphic animals, often for conventions and sexual gatherings.
The outlet noted that the suspect was called a “woman” in Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin’s (R) announcement of the arrest.
“On Feb. 14, the attorney general said 40-year-old Eric T. Brown was also arrested over the case, though it’s not clear how he is connected to Allen,” The Post Millennial report said.
In June, a Democrat transgender former lawmaker in New Hampshire was arrested on four felony counts of distribution of child sexual abuse images, according to Breitbart News.
If you cannot see that this is mental illness YOU are just as crazy as the Gender Benders.

The establishment media continued their biased reporting by selectively ignoring important storylines that contradict their grand narratives.
Americans noticed the bias. Fifty percent of Americans said the national media intend to mislead, misinform, and persuade the public, a Gallup and Knight Foundation poll found:
Just 35 percent said most news organizations could be relied upon.
Only 26 percent held a favorable opinion of the news media, the lowest level recorded in the past five years by the poll. Fifty-three percent hold an unfavorable view.
Below are five storylines the establishment media ignored in 2023:
1) Report: ABC, NBC, CBS Morning News Ignore Chinese Money Wired to Joe Biden’s Address
In September, Breitbart News reported cable morning news shows on ABC News, NBC News, and CBS News apparently ignored the bombshell revelation that President Joe Biden’s home address received two bank wires totaling $260,000 in 2019 from Biden family Chinese business partners.
2) ABC, CBS Evening Programming Ignores Bombshell Whistleblower Claims of Hunter Biden’s ‘Preferential Treatment’ from DOJ
In June, Breitbart News reported that ABC’s “World News Tonight” and “CBS Evening News” ignored the bombshell IRS whistleblower allegations that Hunter Biden received preferential treatment from the Justice Department (DOJ) regarding probes into tax violations.
3) WaPo, NYT, Politico, CNN, MSNBC’s Main Front Pages Fail to Feature IRS Whistleblower Claims Against Biden’s DOJ
In June, Breitbart News reported establishment media networks avoided posting stories on their home pages about the IRS whistleblower allegations of political interference by the DOJ on behalf of the Biden family.
4) Politico Ignores Allegations of Bribery While Praising Biden’s European Wardrobe
In July, Breitbart News reported media outlets ignored allegations against the president of receiving a $5 million bribe, focusing instead on Biden’s European wardrobe:
Politico, which frequently tries to protect the Bidens from political liabilities, such as with its infamous reporting on the “Laptop from Hell” in 2020, focused its lead story in Politico Playbook’s evening newsletter on a 724-word piece about Joe Biden’s wardrobe during his latest tour in Europe.
Nowhere in the newsletter was the biggest story of the month: Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) released an FBI information record that alleged Joe Biden and Hunter Biden each received $5 million from Mykola Zlochevsky, the founder of Burisma Holdings, after Joe Biden threatened to withhold aid to Ukraine until President Petro Poroshenko fired a prosecutor investigating Burisma.
5) White House, Democrat, Media Claims of “No Evidence” to Support Biden Impeachment Inquiry Contradicted by Mountains of Evidence
In September, Breitbart News reported the White House, Democrats, and their allied media outlets pushed outright disinformation by claiming there is “no evidence” to support an impeachment inquiry into Biden, contradicting mounds of evidence uncovered by House Republicans and already in the public sphere

The Gifts Podcasting Opened For Christmas
Tumblr media
All the gifts have been unwrapped. Tears of joy, gratitude, disappointment, and downright anger have been shed.
Now, imagine you're Podcasting, and the industry has waited patiently to open its Christmas gifts. Sadly, last year, Podcasting received only coal in its stocking, with thousands of people losing their livelihoods and too many shows headed to the graveyard of Posthumous Podcasts.
Podcasting sits in front of the tree, surrounded by gifts. It's wearing its trademark red flannel pajamas with an iron-on saying, "My Ears Are Over Here," below the right pocket.
Podcasting stares at the gifts surrounding the tree, wondering which to open first. They ignore the Amazon gift wrapping because they know it contains more Wondery podcasts, and Podcasting already has enough of them.
Podcasting spots a wrapped gift that says "From Joe." He knows that means Joe Rogan. They open it, and it's a gift card that reads, "This year I promise to stop spreading misinformation, and I condemn those like Steve Bannon, Dan Bongino, and others who spread hate for Americans who differ in race, religion, lifestyle, viewpoint, and orientation. As a top-rated show, I promise to represent Podcasting more responsibly and be a model of fairness and inclusion."
Podcasting smiles at that prospect, and then opens the next gift, which is wrapped in the gaudiest and over-the-top paper. The card says it is from Daniel Ek, CEO of Spotify.
The card reads, "Dear Podcasting, in 2024, I promise not to try to dominate the industry, squeeze out indie podcasters, and act more judiciously so that employees are not fired, quality shows are not canceled like Heavyweight and Stolen, and produce shows that don't have D-level celebrities, influencers, and people guilty of all kinds of sins trying in vain to redeem themselves."
Podcasting says, "jag ber att det är så," which means "I pray it is so" in Swedish.
Podcasting's eyes drift to a small, carefully wrapped gift, so they reach out to the gift, and carefully unwrap it.
It is a promise ring -- small but exquisite. The card reads," Podcasting, this promise ring is from the tens of thousands of independent podcasters who are your heart and soul. Despite what's happened in the last two years, we want you to know that we are here for you. We care dearly about our listeners, and hope we get more opportunity to succeed, since the giants has been trying to make us extinct."
Podcasting sheds a tear and moves on to the next gift, which is wrapped in blue paper. They open it, and it's a judge's gavel. The card reads, "Podcasting, this year, we promise not to overwhelm you with so many true-crime shows because you are becoming only known for this one genre. We know there are so many genres to explore, and we confess -- with no duress applied -- that we have been too aggressive in developing true-crime shows that have begun to sound like every other true-crime show."
Podcasting nods, knowing that this is a valuable gift, and they hope it comes to pass.
Finally, after opening gifts from Acast, Cumulus, iHeart, SXM, and other podcast networks about releasing better shows -- Fewer Breitbart News Daily shows and more All Music Is Black Music shows -- Podcasting opens its last gift, from YouTube. The gift is a pair of expensive headphones. The card reads, "We will honor the legacy of podcasting and not screw it up but forcing all podcasters to go video, but will offer audio-only shows on an even playing field. We know that a video of podcasters wearing headphones surrounded by gear, talking for an hour, and essentially being talking heads isn't that appealing. We will not try to smash audio-only podcasts. Those incidents with using an algorithm to promote hate speech were just a hiccup we're trying with medium intensity to fix."
Podcasting then hands the one gift left to the listeners, the fans, and the financial supporters of podcasts.
The card reads,"Dear Podcast Fans, we know that we allowed some big companies to disappoint and con you the last few years, and we've let purveyors of misinformation and hate speech slip through the cracks. In 2024, we promise to re-focus on the core of podcasting -- the independent podcasters that started all this and exemplify the best podcasting has to offer you."
Podcasting makes eye contact with its listeners. In a strong, steady voice and with a determined tone, they say, "What we can do in 2024 can improve all our tomorrows."
