1942 Crocker Big Tank Twin
Among the many storied, prewar, American motorcycle manufacturers, the name Crocker stands out above the rest. Hand built in extremely limited quantities by engineer and racer Albert Crocker of Los Angeles, the bespoke performance machines built from his seven-man shop have come to be known as “The Duesenberg of American Motorcycles.” Like Duesenberg, they were built to a standard and not a price, and no two Crockers are alike.
Only 70 of the big, V-twin street bikes are estimated to have been made during the final six-year run of the company, leading to them being termed “The Holy Grail of Motorcycling.” This one, though, is particularly special. According to the company’s registry, it’s the final original Crocker ever built prior to the rebirth of the brand’s name in 1999 and subsequent continuations.

Though focused mostly on "Grateful Americana", the group loves to mix classic rock, reggae, Motown, and originals into their shows if the room calls for it. They have played for many colleges, including UVM, Middlebury, St. Lawrence, and St. Michael's. They've also headlined shows for Burlington's First Night, the Lake Champlain Quadricentennial, The Plattsburg Mayor's Cup, and Troy, New York's "Rockin' On The River", along with summer concert series in Waterbury, Richmond, Burlington, Saranac Lake, and Lake Placid to name a few. You never know who'll get pulled up on stage to play with the "Champlain Valley's House Band", so come dance and have a good time!

1912 Simplex 50 HP Toy-Tonneau
In 1911, William P. Snyder Jr. ordered his 50 HP from J.M. Quinby & Co., the New Jersey–based coachbuilder and body maker for Simplex automobiles. Replying to his inquiry on June 26, the coachbuilder wrote, “We propose to furnish you with the latest model 129 inch wheel base, 50 H.P. Simplex Chassis, equipped with a Bosch dual system and four volt battery, Solar Eclipse headlights, oil side and tail lamps, Presto Lite tank and Chassis work, less the rear fenders for the sum of Forty-nine Hundred and Sixty ($4,960.00) Dollars and to be delivered three weeks or as much sooner as possible.”
Snyder specified a shorter 124-inch, 50 HP chassis with a Runabout, two-seat body and folding canvas top, painted in Munich Lake with a medium red chassis, and maroon leather. He also added his monogram to the coachwork. Soon after Chassis No. 799 was delivered, it was crashed by its young owner, and, at his father’s insistence, returned to Quinby to be fitted with more conservative bodywork that might encourage more disciplined driving.
The car on offer still wears body No. 3038, the Toy-Tonneau coachwork fitted in 1912. The Simplex was passed down to Snyder’s son in 1940, and eventually passed down to the latest generation in 2011.

Drive Very Specially in Pininfarina’s Personal 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB Speciale
While any Ferrari 275 GTB is a special car, if you’re looking to buy a truly unique example, look no further than the 1965 275 GTB “Speciale” that’s headed to Scottsdale auction week, courtesy of Gooding & Company auction house.
Built from one of two 275 chassis given to Carrozzeria Pininfarina in 1964 from which to style the new 12-cylinder coupe. After the prototype was built for Ferrari using one of the chassis, this car, chassis number 06437 was kept by the coachbuilder for its own promotional purposes and is the only 275 GTB to actually be built by Pininfarina, instead of Scaglietti.
The differences, both inside and out, between the Scaglietti-built cars and this Pininfarina one-off are many, including notable differences to the bumpers, badging, front lighting, door handles, rain gutters, bulged hood, and most notably, the forward-thinking rear diffuser that looks remarkably similar to modern sports and racing cars. Inside this one-off, a redesigned center console is the most obvious change, though subtle differences abound in the door panels, seats, and dashboard.
This “Speciale” did duty at some of the era’s premier auto shows, including Paris and Torino before being sold to its first private owner in Italy. Battista Pininfarina, Carrozzeria Pininfarina’s founder, passed away in the months following the car’s sale adding yet another interesting footnote to this car’s history.
The Ferrari would undergo several owners and a color change to dark red before being brought to the U.S. and restored to original specification by one of the country’s foremost Ferrari experts, California-based Michael Sheehan. In the early 1990s, the one-off 275 GTB earned a second-in-class finish at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and a first in class award at the Ferrari Club of America Vintage Ferrari Concours. It is now on offer for the first time in 25 years and will make its auction debut with Gooding & Company in Scottsdale, next week.
The Gooding & Company auction will be hosted at the Scottsdale Fashion Square in Arizona on January 19 and 20.

1960 Chevrolet Engineering CERV 1 Research Vehicle
It's hard to find classic cars where the current owner even knows who first bought the car. With this 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, it's easy: it's only had one owner. It's also been in dry storage since 1976, although its late owner — pilot and US Merchant Marine Sig Nygren — used to start it every time he returned home. Given his aviation background, Sig installed several enhancements, including a chronometer, altimeter, and thermometer, as well as fog lights, an eight-track player, and a defroster fan. Other than those small changes, the car remains highly original, with the same Fire Engine Red paint and Red Plaid fabric upholstery it came with, as well as factory inspection tags still visible on the oil and fuel tanks. With only 31,239 miles on the odometer and unquestioned provenance, it's an ideal candidate for a caring restoration.

Fully restored with an eye on drivability as opposed to preservation, this 1964 Toyota FJ45 Land Cruiser Truck is an arguably even better version of the FJ40 stablemate. During its recent restoration, the F135 engine was upgraded to the more modern 2F, the three-speed column shift transmission replaced with a floor-shift four-speed, and the transfer case and manual brakes replaced with vacuum equivalents. The exterior was redone in light tan, and the interior received similar updates, with new gray cloth upholstery, weather-stripping, and pedal pads. The result, while not as original as some examples, is no doubt better suited to provide long-term enjoyment for its next owner.
