With Liberty media it wasn’t that I don’t think he’s marketable it’s just I look at F1 and it’s very PR trained and while Marc is good with PR he also love the chaos but I guess if they use it to bring attention to the sport liberty media won’t care. i am interested in howwww liberty is going to choose to narrativize these guys. because you’d think it would be a drive to survive parallel but they already KIND OF tried that with motogp unlimited and it categorically flopped. and marc already took his own stab at telling the sepang story via the medium of sports documentary and as a result he mostly got away with avoiding motogp unlimited. and kind of so did vale really… (it’s been a minute but the only time they really acknowledge the rivalry is when they made marc record a retirement message right?? also so funny imagine being marc. imagine.)

but sepang is also imo pretty foundational to the sport in terms of understanding the current dynamics of like. HALF the grid. you have to understand the 2013-2015 seasons i think in order to reap a lot of those narrative dividends concerning modern rivalries ! if you want to sell marc you’re going to have to sell vale. if you want to sell pecco you have to do the same. same with bez. same with luca. same with franky diggia EVERYBODY almost. enea even. they’ve all been floating around each other for so long and they all play such different roles in each other’s stories and i think if they actually churn out a proper little show about it, it’ll be interesting to see what choices they make ! like liberty isn’t concerned with chaos (that drives engagement remember !!) they care about STORY. and they’re going to cast people in roles here. they’re GOING to have a stance. So this has been bouncing around in my head for a WHILE (aka: a couple days) now but your lights out au kinda reminds me of a game that came out recently called "my friendly neighborhood" (really good game btw, highly recommend to either play or watch a playthrough) bc the plot is literally "puppets are just alive in this universe muppet-style & after their show got canceled they all got locked in their show's studio for a decade or so & went slightly mad bc of it". There's a whole bunch of differences, obviously, but mainly I just thought it'd be interesting if the player character, a grumpy-but-lovable handyman who's also a war vet that has Seen Some Shit, ended up at the playfellow studio in this au for one reason or another (maybe he was asked to go in & check that the electricity all still works correctly?). Idk how the puppets would react to his arrival, but at least he's got some practice handling aggressive (or overly enthusiastic) puppets who haven't seen a real, live human in years.

i've been meaning to watch a playthrough for a week now T¬T i remember watching the demo and being immediately So Fucking Hyped for the game's release

May: Oh... you know, it was great - when we were back in the States, when we were back in New York and you know, we had the car, we had this car, and we'd go out to visit, John was so thrilled at the fact that I would be the one driving, that it was just the two of us, there wasn't... he didn't go for the limos and all that. I mean, he understood it like if we're going to an opening, that's different, but you know on the daily basis he'd rather not deal with that, you know. And of course I took him on a New York City bus ride one Saturday morning and he was so shocked and all these people are sitting on the bus... getting on the bus and they see him and they're going... and you could hear the whispering, they're going "Is that John Lennon?", "No, it can't be!", "Yes, no I'm telling you, I think it is!". And then John's sitting there going like this with his finger holding onto his face and he's going "Tsk... it's the nose - it's giving it away, it's the nose." And then somebody finally yelled out and said "Hey, John! How you doing?" and he goes "Fine!" and he turned to me, "It's time to get off the bus."

not a fan of people saying Odin and Loki are similar in a moral or decisive sense, particularly when it comes to Thor. that makes it sound like Loki doesn't know Thor or care about him beyond what he symbolises (regarding Asgard/the throne/family/worthiness), when that's a defining part of their relationship

#like i get WHY people go 'oh Thor is like Frigga (they care™/bring Emotions in) and Loki is like Odin (calculating™ /For The Greater Good)' #but if you make such a clearcut comparison you neglect a lot of stuff that Odin and Loki do drastically different #like there are literal contrasts that are pretty evident around Thor particularly #like Odin does expect Thor to be some ideal version of himself that obeys Odin implicitly and doesn't have his own volatile emotions? #while Loki more sees that Thor isn't who he tries to pretend to be and generally encourages Thor to realize that #the most obvious parallel would be how they in TDW try telling Thor that Jane won't work out #and Odin goes for the whole 'well they're insignificant' angle despite Thor caring about the humans and Jane particularly #Odin tries to go 'here's Sif and since you shouldn't have your own preferences (they're wrong and bad) consider my choice' #he largely disregards Thor's emotions #most people do on Asgard???? #like it's literally wild how everyone saw Thor being major depressed and they basically told him to pretend to cheer up #like im sorry Thor's grief means nothing to y;all. he fell in love with someone very mortal and his brother is changed forever #Loki tries putting Thor off by first off. Thor KNOWS Jane isn't going to live long he's not never thought about it #he doesn't even make the decision for Thor he tells him to consider his choice well bc it WILL hurt him when she's gone #Loki is like treats Thor like a person and Odin is like nah I own him #I feel like in converting the brother/father relationship difference over people lose the differences in those aspect #they skip to similarities of heartlessness and Machiavellian ends meeting the means when Loki overall is #a far more moral character than Thor (at the start of Thor's arc) and Odin. and a lot of culturally Asgardian ideas #that's literally part of Loki's original characterization that he DIDN'T match up with their views #he didn't do stuff like take killing lightly like it's for fun and that's one of a long list of obvious aspects that make the setup cool #don't tell me Odin and Loki are the same #like there's some blanket understanding that Loki doesn't show or care about the people he loves #while Thor and Frigga have always been softhearted and refused to sacrifice themselves for what is deemed better for everyone #don't mistake selfishness for apathy and don't say Loki didn't cry himself through the first movie because duty to the throne comes first #that's literally Thor's bit #idk

Arla spends two weeks in a shitty flophouse on an even shittier planet in the Outer Rim, jumping at every sound outside her door and pulling her blaster on shadows, before she realizes that she might actually have gotten away.

She gouged all three tracking chips from beneath her skin before her escape attempt. The ship she was given for her last assignment will have reached its final destination by now, set on a collision course with a star halfway across the galaxy. The droid that removed the explosive implant at the back of her neck auto-wiped its records, and she scoured her armor clean of bugs and paint in a single-minded frenzy that left her hands caked in blue and black.

It was the first job she was allowed in the Core, after years of faking loyalty and swallowing her pride and fury in order to rise in Death Watch's ranks. They previously hadn't trusted her not to disappear into the massive populaces found on Core worlds, where anonymity was the norm and people had enough that they could afford to be kind to strangers, instead of scrabbling desperately for their own survival. Tracking implants, on-board ship cameras, regular comm check-ins: they held tight to her leash with their grubby little fingers even as they finally allowed her to stray.

They were smart not to trust her--but not smart enough to keep her from disappearing. 

If they haven't found her yet, it's likely they won't find her at all.

When that fact finally sets in, Arla curls up in a corner of the room and wastes a couple hours on a hysterical, weeping breakdown, because why the fuck not?

She's free.
