There are two fish dishes in today’s Lunch. On the left, a steamed fish fillet with drizzling of fragrant shallot and ginger oil. Sitting in the middle, eggplant stew or maybe its aubergine or brinjal to you. Lastly, a crispy battered fish fillet with sweet & sour sauce to give it extra flavours.

Damn I had no idea the russian word for eggplant (baklajan) was so close to the Persian and Arabic words, and I'm assuming was brought over via the Ottomans. Not sure why Slavic languages were left out of this family tree

Bitter Bliss: Neem and Brinjal Fry
Bitter Bliss: Neem and Brinjal Fry is a unique and flavorful dish that brings together the natural bitterness of neem leaves with the earthy goodness of brinjals (eggplants). This traditional Odia recipe infuses the pungent and healthful flavors of neem leaves with the tender and slightly crispy texture of sautéed brinjals. I only ever check Facebook to see what my elderly (soon to be) father in law posts (mostly to shittalk it to my fiancé) and one college friend, but somehow facebooks algorithm got royally fucked for me and now I’m only ever getting served posts for Indians learning English that are just big infographics of vegetable names and such things

Three packs of Takeaway Dinner from nearby coffee shop just across the road. Let’s us start off with this box of economy rice (菜饭) which consisted of stewed fried tofu topped with savoury minced pork, followed by stir-fry okra and sweet & sour pork.
Tumblr media
The second box of Economy Rice (菜饭) had simpler dishes of stir-fried bok choy with silky smooth steamed egg custard and crispy pork in soy reduction. The last pack had kung pao chicken (宫保鸡丁), eggplant stew and the same crispy pork in soy reduction over white rice.
