Comic!Hobie has switched from his iconic converse to blue-laced combat boots!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Bottom two images from Spider-Punk: Arms Race - released 28/2/24]
Originally, all throughout his comic book run, Hobie has worn different pairs of converse.
However this was changed for the movie to better reflect 1970's British culture, which I spoke about here.
Hence, Hobies line to Gwen 'Are those my Chucks?'. A nod to the footwear he typically wears in the comics.
However now, with Spider-Punk's newest run hitting shelves, it seems Comic!Hobie has switched to boots and blue laces as well!
And, just in line with punk aesthetics - they're ladder laced in line with the old Laces Code.
With Hobie killing Commander-in-Chief President Osborn, these make complete sense for him.
How cool!!!! I really hope this means they're taking feedback from fans 😁

Today, on 8th February, 1976 - Queen Story!
New York, NY, USA, Beacon Theater
'A Night At The Opera Tour'
🔸Freddie Mercury was taking tea on the 47th floor of his New York hotel. In his suite. The Royal suite, of course. It was the morning after yet another triumph for Queen - that brilliant and highly original British rock band built around the outrageous ideas and stage presence of the exotic Mr.
Mercury. They had played their fourth concert in as many nights at the battered but fashionable Beacon Theatre, and wvith an album and a single in the American charts, they were riding high.
Warm tea was permitted to slide down Mr. Mercury's regal throat as he prodded gingerly at some nasty looking bruises on the side of his neck.
He explained, My very promising pop career nearly came to an untimely end last night. Two young girls outside the theatre decided to claim my scarf as a souvenir. They quite forgot that it was wrapped around my neck at the time, and they very nearly strangled me. I'm sure Her Majesty doesn't have to put up with this sort of thing. But then, she doesn't have anything in the charts at the moment does she?"
He is a wicked man, Mr. Mercury.
He is also everything that a rock idol is supposed to be, and New York has been quick to recognise this. Like Mick Jagger, Freddie has off-beat good looks. Jagger has those pneumatic lips, and Freddie has the most out- spoken set of teeth ever to have found their way on to a pop fan's wall. He also enjoys the lifestyle of a true superstar - he lives out our fantasies for us far more effectively than we could ever manage to do for our- selves. Even if we had his kind of money.
His dress sense is sensational. He seldom looks less than spectacular, and he is not the sort of chap who believes in going unnoticed. Satin is his favourite fabric, with silk coming a close second. And he loves those loose, floppy, Japanese-style jackets.
But as he is quick to point out, There is a quiet side to me too, you know.
My home life is very civilised, and I hardly ever dress up to watch the tele- vision. Unless I am watching a Royal occasion of course. Then, my dear, it's on with the tiara and the emine ..
the LOT!
But Freddie felt there were better things to do in the city of New York than sit around sipping tea and discussing sartorial matters. He in- vited photographer Terry 0ʻNeill and me to join him on a shopping expedition, and it seemed a reason- able idea. Freddie was his casual self in short fur coat, white satin slacks, white clogs and silver snake bracelet.
The problems we encountered were little ones. Like young girls sobbing softly outside the door of a shoe shop while Freddie sought some- thing for the regal feet inside. And then there was the confusion of the young lady in Bloomingdale's depart- ment store who began to give Freddie a free manicure, only to discover that the nails on his left hand were already painted with black lacquer.
Freddie said, I love America. But l cant imagine ever coming here to live.
Our music is successful over here because it is so distinctively English.
We must keep it that way. I have just bought a new house in London, and an enormous car that looks like a boat on wheels. I could never leave all that.
And I have far too much fun ever to worry about a silly little thing like tax.
I know l'm terribly extravagant.
I always have been. My life these days is one perpetual spending spree. So I suppose l am the sort of person who needs to find ways of reducing tax.
But it's all such a bore. Why don't you buy a pair of these beautiful glitter shoes? They 're outrageous. And they 're cheap. And they re much more interesting than tax, don't you think?
I did think so. But I decided against buying the lurid footwear. You have to be a star to wear shoes like that.
Somebody rather like Freddie Mercury, in fact.

A GUIDE ON SANDAL AND ESPADRILLES STYLING IN UK SUMMER
Tumblr media
When it comes to summer fashion in the UK, sandals are a must-have item. Welligogs sandals and espadrilles provide comfort, breathability, and style, making them the perfect British footwear choice for the warmer months. Whether you’re heading to the beach, attending a summer festival, or simply enjoying a stroll, this guide will help you step out in style.
So, let’s dive in and discover the perfect sandals and espadrilles for your summer adventures!
Choose Sandals That Suit Your Foot Shape
Just like any other footwear, it’s important to choose sandals that flatter your foot shape. If you have wider feet, opt for sandals with adjustable straps or those with a wider width option. For narrower feet, look for styles that provide a more secure fit.
Additionally, consider the arch support and cushioning provided by the sandals to ensure maximum comfort. Taking your foot shape into account will not only enhance your comfort but also ensure a more flattering look.
Embrace Versatile Neutral Tones
Neutral-coloured sandals are a wardrobe staple for the UK summer. They effortlessly complement a wide range of outfits and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Shades like tan, nude, beige, and white are versatile and timeless, making them easy to pair with various clothing items. A pair of neutral sandals will give you endless styling possibilities and ensure that you’re always fashion-forward.
Play with Bold and Vibrant Colours
While neutrals are classic, don’t be afraid to add a pop of colour to your summer outfits with vibrant sandals. Opt for bold shades like pink, yellow, or turquoise to inject energy and personality into your look. Pair colourful sandals with neutral or monochromatic outfits to let them stand out as the focal point. Experimenting with bright colours is a fun way to express your style and create eye-catching ensembles.
Consider the Occasion and Outfit
When styling sandals, consider the occasion and the outfit you’ll be wearing. For casual outings or beach days, flip-flops or simple strappy sandals are appropriate. If you’re attending a more formal event, opt for dressier sandals with a heel.
Pay Attention to Proportions
Proportions play a crucial role in creating a well-balanced and visually appealing outfit. When wearing sandals, consider the length of your clothing items. For example, if you’re wearing a maxi dress or skirt, opt for sandals with a slight heel to maintain the right proportions.
Flat sandals work well with shorter hemlines, such as shorts or above-the-knee dresses. By paying attention to proportions, you’ll achieve a more polished and put-together look.
Experiment with Different Textures
To add depth and visual interest to your outfit, experiment with sandals featuring different textures. Look for options with suede or animal hair. These subtle details can elevate a simple outfit and make your sandals the focal point of your look. Mixing textures adds dimension and creates a visually appealing ensemble.
Coordinate Accessories with Your Sandals
Complete your sandal styling by coordinating your accessories with your chosen pair. If you’re wearing metallic-accented sandals, opt for jewellery in the same metal tones to create a cohesive look. For neutral sandals, you can play with colourful accessories to add a touch of personality.
Consider matching your handbag or clutch to your sandals to tie the whole outfit together. Coordinating accessories with your sandals adds a polished and intentional touch to your overall look.
Don’t Forget About Comfort
While style is important, never compromise on comfort when it comes to sandals. Look for options with cushioned footbeds, arch support, and adjustable straps. Taking care of your feet will ensure that you can enjoy the summer season to the fullest without any discomfort or pain. With numerous brands prioritizing both style and comfort, you can find sandals that offer the best of both worlds.
Confidence is Key
Above all, remember that confidence is the key to pulling off any outfit. No matter which sandal style you choose or how you decide to style them, wear them with confidence and embrace your unique fashion sense. When you feel good in what you’re wearing, it radiates from within and enhances your overall look. Own your style choices and walk with confidence in your sandals all summer long!
With these fashion footwear sandal styling tips, you’re ready to conquer the UK summer in style. Embrace versatility, play with proportions, and coordinate your accessories for a cohesive and fashionable look. With the right pair of sandals and a sprinkle of creativity, you’ll be turning heads and making a fashion statement wherever you go this summer.
Why Welligogs Sandals and Espadrilles are Perfect for UK Summer Style?
Breathability and Comfort:
One of the main reasons sandals and espadrilles are perfect for UK summer style is their breathability and comfort. The open design of sandals allows air to circulate freely, keeping your feet cool and preventing them from sweating excessively.
This is especially important during the hot and humid summer months in the UK. Welligogs espadrilles, with their lightweight canvas or fabric uppers, provide similar breathability and allow your feet to breathe, ensuring all-day comfort.

Another post about Ivan Vaughan reminded me of the parts in Chris Salewicz's Paul biography where Institute classmate Peter Sissons is like, okay, yeah, Paul and John were talented, but Ivan Vaughan, now THERE was a real original:
But it was Ivan Vaughan who stood out even more to [Peter] Sissons and, he claims, to the school in general. “He was the only other key figure there at the time who I would have thought would make it as some sort of creative personality. He stood out head and shoulders above everybody.” The dominating feature of Vaughan’s life was “an entirely distinctive sense of humor.” This, in turn, was influenced by “The Goon Show,” the British radio humor program starring Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan, Harry Secombe, and Michael Bentine to which every schoolboy would avidly tune in. But Vaughan’s surreal originality extended even beyond that, being, according to Sissons, “some ten or fifteen years ahead of his time.” A fatherless boy, one of the many members of the cast surrounding Paul McCartney who had lost a parent, Vaughan one day painted his name in three-foot-high letters across the front of the house while his mother was out. Another time, he arrived at school with, for no apparent reason, the dull appearance of his regulation black shoes having been altered by a thick, vivid coat of canary yellow paint. Later Vaughan employed a more subtle creativity with regard to his footwear: playing truant for days at a time, he would reappear at the Institute with an explanatory note, in his own carefully disguised handwriting, declaring his absence to have been caused by “shoes gone to the menders”—an absolute master stroke, for what member of the staff would dare question the undreamt tales of poverty and hardship that lay behind such circumstances? [...] “John Lennon was a highly original character,” sums up Peter Sissons. “But in my opinion, much of the outrageousness and unpredictability he displayed later in life came from Ivan Vaughan, and not the other way round.” [...] Peter Sissons has no doubts at all as to exactly how the balance in the relationship between the two Institute boys weighed up. Though Paul’s intelligent sense of humor was beyond question, he was by far the most conventional of the pair, his Ted-like appearance notwithstanding. “Ivan was certainly the leader: people followed him around because he was such an outrageous character, such a funny guy to be with, always making quirky jokes, which were never evil or yobbish, but just downright hilarious. So people would follow him around just to be amused.”
-McCartney, Chris Salewicz, 1986

The Timeless Style Of Audrey Hepburn
Tumblr media
Audrey Hepburn: British actress and humanitarian, a wondrous woman with an everlasting legacy who was idolised worldwide for her effortless poise and grace. It is an undeniable fact that Audrey was a true fashion icon of her time - a timeless beauty.
Use of colour allowed Audrey to create outfits that could live forever, outfits that could be stored in time capsules and remain just as wonderful for years to come. She used hues of black, white, and grey most frequently: shades that have stood the test of time and create a sleek and sophisticated feel to an outfit. This neutral palette would be aided by pops of colour, predominantly pastels, scarlet red, and coral pink.
Alongside an aesthetically stunning colour scheme, her outfits would usually feature stripes, floral or checkered patterns. Even so, she maintained a strict one-pattern-per-outfit policy, with every other item of clothing being a solid colour.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Audrey's style was classy and distinguished both on and off the screen. She was the queen of the little black dress, much like her Breakfast At Tiffany's character Holly Gollightly. Pairing slim-cut trousers with black turtlenecks, and white blouses with cinch-waist skirts she would create minimalistic outfits that radiated her balletic nature. Contrasting her feminine pieces, Hepburn also wasn't afraid to break down gendered clothing barriers, wearing blazers, suits and ties as often as she pleased - feminism at its most quintessential.
Audrey always had statement sunglasses within reach, whether they were cat eye or tortoise-shell, they were always sure to add the finishing touches to her outfits. A beige trench coat was her go to jacket of choice; ballet flats or penny loafers were her ever-reliable footwear and she would often adorn her outfits with a simplistic string of pearls and stud earrings.
Chic and stunning - Audrey Hepburn was and always will remain a truly timeless fashion icon.
