Ooohhh, okay! I got the gist of the first bit but didn't know the idioms, so it was a lot of guesswork, but I sort of got the vague idea. Thank you so much for explaining!

In one week, the world was going to end via nuclear warfare. Britton is going to be the first target.
Thing is, no-one seemed to frightened. The bills still came in, memes were made (because of course), and people said goodbye to their loved ones in a cemetery that was also my front lawn. Also, Britton was now a popular tourist destination.
