Unsure the current trending opinions on Across the Spider-Verse, but:

Beyond the fact that the art fucks 1,100% and the way it made me look back on Into the Spider-Verse with incredulity to see how far back Across’ foreshadowing was set up-

It’s a coming-of-age movie, in the most heartwrenching and unapologetic ways. The whole damn trilogy is a coming of age story. It takes the nice happy ending we get in Into the Spider-Verse, and goes ‘No story remains wholly happy, if you don’t pause the scene after the kisses and hugs.’

And not in a bleak way, or at least I think that’s something Beyond the Spider-Verse will - hopefully - hammer home better than any of us will see coming. But...

There’s the whole overarching thing in Into about “No Expectations” and how this applies to both the expectations his family has and the expections of being a Spider-Man. Well, Miles did it. He had to fight that fight, and he won it at 14. It changed the course of his whole fucking destiny. 

And...Across the Spider-Verse comes knocking on the door and goes “Yeah, that fight isn’t one you fight and win once. The endless expectations that you subvert and slay at 14, are coming right back around at 15. This is a lifelong struggle, and old happy endings will always become more bittersweet as you get older.”

And, as Across has started to lace for us - and, as I think and hope Beyond will run home for us - it’s also going “And this is alright. It sucks. And it’s not fair. But also, fuck destiny and what’s expected of you, and you’ll find family to help build a better future alongside.”

Beyond being on the bleeding edge of animation and having a story being executed to precision, the Spider-Verse movies are also a coming of age story.

#cant stop thinking about the way my friend looked at me last night during Bible study + worship #we were in a small group together and we all gave prayer requests #and I vaguely mentioned what’s been going on. and it gets me emotional #especially telling it to people who don’t know about it in its entirety #and I was pretty much on the brink of tears #and he just looked at me in the most sympathetic way possible. he looked like HE would’ve broken down if I continued. #like when people write someone having a specific look on their face. a sympathetic or caring or whatever other word you’d like to use #that’s exactly what it was. #and he just met me with a nod and I nodded back but #im just used to telling my girlfriends about the heavy things. but to see him react that way and knowing his heart :/ #selfishly I really wanted to hug him. #but he prayed over everyone. he prayed for my situation the LONGEST despite not knowing anything at all #I know this probably sounds dumb but people caring is such a foreign concept to me. it’s something I like cannot accept #but these irls are the best people I know. Too tired to write but also can't stop The Scenes™ from playing out in my mind.

#bits about Arvel's healing magic and also the man in the bar healing Kahn's broken bones #i mean it's not perfect and it's painful for both the man and Kahn for different reasons but it does work in the end #also just sort of trying to flesh out the healing magic in my head. for most people who have it (mostly loethan) it's close #range or on touch. depending on the person it might hurt or drain the caster too and they might have to be able to see #the specific injury or at least where it is (such as when the man in the bar has to cut into Kahn's leg and arm to see his bones) #it almost never works on nerve damage. never on organs except maybe internal bleeding or injuries so severe the organs are #exposed. (basically just trying to say it won't heal organ failure). so it's pretty much best for broken bones and cuts. works better the #more recent the injury was. technically has the ability to regrow limbs but that's most likely never shown. (torn between whether #or not veren gets his arm regrown or a prosthetic. probably prosthetic since he lost it years ago) #doesn't work on illnesses or poisoning or stuff like that. that's still the domain of alchemists. also since on the areas it shuts #does. I'm not retyping that. on the areas it does heal its just rapid cell regrowth which most of the time is fine. but then there's #Arvel. who can do it both on touch and at range and uses the whole rapid cell growth thing as a method of torture. add the whole #light minions thing and the fact that his abilities include a rapid healing factor on himself (and that unlike a lot of people #his abilities work rapidly on others and he can easily get over any drain it has on him) #and yeah it's understandable why Len loses the first fight and why a lot of people don't stand up to him much. even his wife who doesn't #have powers at all ends up progressively more afraid of him. like the only way to possibly wound him in a meaningful way is to get the #drop on him and find some way to inflict severe damage on a vital spot and keep whatever you used to do that inside of him long enough #for him to eventually not be able to heal around it anymore. i don't know just thinking about how he's such a twisting of typically 'good #guy' powers. like his main things are light and healing he should be the hero or like high up supporting cast but nope he's just #trying to subjugate everyone and rule the whole damn continent because of a might makes right ethos and the fact that he does #certainly have might on his side #maggot original

there's a lot of thoughts in my brain (hah), and ultimately i want to share them, but for now this is kind of me waving at everyone with a smile while my life has an "under construction" sign

#the last sentence also pertains to system stuff bc there was a major split from a significant alter #so like imagine an 'under new management' sign as well #not a host shift tho afaik but the split has resulted in a new fronter who's very active and has been co-con very frequently since #i've been having a Time recently in ways i'll ltr divulge abt but i finally established a solid communication with her today and that helped #i dont know how many splits/alters had broken off because intuition is saying a few but she's the most present and active in my awareness #i think we settled on her name being Lily but that may not be concrete #for a few alters i get like a single letter for their name and i try to work with them to find a name within that letter that feels right #one of my oldest and closest alters has only had the letter 'E' for the longest time and he and i cant find a solid name yet #every now and again im like 'edgar??? edwin??? edward??? emil???' and he's like 'fuck if i know' so like. fair enough dude. #i wonder if he'd like ez/ezara given that's a name we picked for ourselves pre-diagnosis however he doesn't fit that name in my opinion #ANYWAY. been reflecting on the fourth season and. again. in all fairness to jason carver, like. man. i really do feel bad for that boy. he had the worst fucking week of his life. and it does suck that how he responded to two terrible tragedies overshadows everything potentially good about him
