Last line tag game

thanks for the tag @redmyeyes! unsurprisingly your lines stabbed me in the heart, what's new!

i truly have no idea what my last line was, so here are a couple of random excerpts from my 1979 fire island fic:

a little bit of angst:

“Skippy, it isn’t —” he shakes his head, “I’m fine —” “No, Hawk. You’re not fine.” Tim sits up abruptly, knocking Hawk aside. Hawk looks up at him helplessly, lost for words. He reaches out and then seemingly thinks better of it, drops his hand and says softly, “Skippy…” But the spell has broken, and with the cold wash of clarity comes a sinking shame. Hawk is married. He’s grieving an inconceivable, unimaginable loss. What is Tim doing?

and something a little lighter:

Tim wants to indulge in it all: wants to suck Hawk’s fingers between his lips, wants to sink into the promised heat of Hawk’s mouth, his roving hands, the memory of the previous evening burning deep in his gut, but he still has just enough of a grip on his inhibitions to know how spectacularly stupid that would be — so he settles for leaning in, arms crossed over Hawk’s chest, grinning and wildly, incandescently happy, before bounding away again, carried by the beat of the music and the thrill in his veins.

from 1954 valentine's day fic:

He hadn’t had much cause to wear those either, given that most of his shirts didn’t require them, but sometimes he opened the box just to run his thumbs wonderingly over the golden letters.  H. F.  His major and his university, and it must be fate to have fallen for a man with initials so easily explained away.  The cufflinks were slightly scuffed, from what Tim assumed was many years of use, and that made them only more precious to him, as if he were being allowed to carry with him a piece of Hawk himself.

from 1957 fix-it:

Much later, Tim asked, “How long do we have?” perfectly casual except for the way his voice broke on the last syllable. It made Hawk want to promise him forever.  “All night,” he said instead.  “All night and all day.” “Really?” Tim asked, fragile hope in his voice, and Hawk’s insides knotted with guilt.  His offerings were so meager, and Tim was grateful. “Really,” Hawk said, and kissed him again to drown the thoughts out.

What if it took a little longer for Tim to gather the courage to do the right thing and give himself up. His time in the cabin stretched out for a few extra weeks.

🍀 A Disaster, Beyond Measure  by drabbleswabbles [NR, 20K] Hawkins Fuller is a campaign manager with a PR disaster on his hands. The solution involves pretending to date none other than Timothy Laughlin.

The blood in Hawk’s veins turned to ice at Kenny’s words.

Hawk has a nightmare about his time in the war.

Lock screen’s from when I went to Morocco in 2019. I briefly considered never returning. Specifically, I took that pic from a luxurious rooftop restaurant in the Medina in Marrakech (where I ordered one (1) pastry and ate it v slowly).
