What are “Brownie Points”? Where do they come from?

The other day I found myself saying, “Well that won’t earn him any brownie points” and my sibling had a completely different remark than anything I had ever heard, “I don’t do brownie points-I do credit!” “Why do you do credit, are you afraid of someone actually earning a brownie?” “Yes!” Now, this made me wonder....where did this phrase even come from? 

Do you know brownie points is in the dictionary? Or some sites even say its a form of CURRENCY? And apparently we have the girl scouts of young America to thank for this phrase, also a surprise! Do girl scout cookies even sell brownies, if they did there would most likely be no hope for the world. It seems from my research that Brownies were a nickname for Girl Scouts, and doing good thing got you points? This sounds an awful lot like Karma, but let’s not complicate things too much. 

I am going to put an honest couple of questions based on the “Bank of Brownie” system: Why are (usually) spouses needing brownie points? Why are we divvying out points that most times don’t even lead to brownies? Realistically, If I had a partner and they ticked me off and then did something to make up for it-and I gave them “brownie points”. Have I forgiven them? Maybe. Did I make them a brownie for earning brownie points? Maybe, but who is to say that they would even eat it...maybe they don’t like sweets. And...does this make each one of us a bank of brownie? Or are we on loan with some sugar government acting as some strange middle man?

This post may seem kind of silly, but the phrase and the modern ideas attached to it are as silly (in my humble onion). And I would like to take this moment to declare, that I am becoming my own bank, and changing the currency from Brownies...to Cookies. Maybe even offering ACTUAL cookies as rewards, but if I have to offer said partner rewards in the first place...we got problems. You should be nice to me because you care about me! Cookies are icing on the (human love) cake!
