Crimes of the Heart (1986). Three southern sisters try to come to grips with the meaning of their mother's suicide.
Any movie starring Jessica Lange, Sissy Spacek and Diane Keaton as sisters is automatically a 10/10 in my heart! Unfortunately, it's otherwise a bit of a mess. It feels overly convoluted, and while it's focus on the way grief can shape a life is a compelling throughline, it's not as sharply felt as I wish it was in this. 6/10.

TENDER MERCIES (1983)
Grade: C
The story and plot wasn't that special at all, the characters are not interesting enough for such a thin plot. The good acting keeps it watchable.

Breaker Morant (1981). Three Australian lieutenants are court martialed for executing prisoners as a way of deflecting attention from war crimes committed by their superior officers.
Oh, I really loved this one. From the lush and thoughtful cinematography, to his question of whether or not it's possible to have morals in war, to the shifting dynamics of the British, the Australians and the Boers. It's layered and compelling and a good story well told. Both one of the best war films and one of the best courtroom dramas I've seen in a long time. 8/10.
